...

Unbeknownst to the sleeping Serenity, two weeks would pass before her body had fully healed and adjusted to the changes forced on her by Fate. When she finally began to awaken, the first thing she noted was how heavy her body felt. She was weak and even the simplest movement caused her body to ache. Groaning as she fought through the darkness towards consciousness, Serenity blinked her eyes open and winced as bright light flooded her vision.

Using every ounce of strength available to her, Serenity rolled away from the blinding light allowing her eyes to adjust. Her hands fisted as she struggled to make her body rise and that was when she noted the feeling of silk against her skin. Eyes flew open and Serenity noted that she was no longer in Kaede's hut as that was the last memory she could recall. In fact, the oppulence that surrounded her spoke of wealth and a person of high ranking and authority.

Adrenalin rushed through her system as her body went on high alert from waking to a new and unknown location. Serenity found herself resting on a bed raised on a platform and covered in red silk sheets. The wood was dark in color to compliment the red accents in the room and Serenity found herself sliding her legs over the edge of the bed. Her hands fisted in the sheets as a wave of dizziness engulfed her from the sudden change in position. Briefly she wondered if her legs would be able to sustain her should she try to stand.

Toes digging into the floor, Serenity leaned forward and used her arms to help push herself up. One hand shot to the wall to support herself and prevent her from tumbling to the side. Her breathing was labored from that simple movement alone and again she found that she felt heavier than normal.

Closing her eyes, Serenity concentrated on her powers and tried calling them forth only to be reminded of her punishment. Fate's words echoed in her mind….

A sense of hopelessness engulfed her and her body trembled as she slid to her knees. No wonder her body felt heavy, her powers and natural abilities that came with those powers were stripped from her. Serenity raised one hand in front of her face and concentrated on summoning even the smallest flicker of fire to her. Sweat beaded over her brow but she did feel a warming sensation. Seconds ticked by and turned into minutes before a small flicker of flame licked at her fingers. Just that simple use of magic, what was left to her, was enough to exhaust her reserves.

Anger filled her at the thought of being unable to protect herself. Silently she cursed Fate for abandoning her like this in such a dangerous time. Had she not been doing her job? She was created to ensure the balance was maintained, so why punish her for acting in the best interest of the universe? Serenity didn't have long to dwell on this thought as she heard footsteps approaching. Holding her breath and praying to whomever would listen, Serenity was relieved to hear the footsteps pass by her door and continue.

First things first, Serenity had to figure out where she was and how to escape. She had no idea who had taken her or where. The thought of not knowing upset her and made her feel out of control, even more so than the loss of her full abilities. Using the wall to help hold her up, Serenity stood on shaky legs and gave herself time to adjust to the new position. Once her breathing was under control, she took several shaky steps forward to the entrance of the room. Her hand trembled as she reached for the door handle. Ever so slowly she opened the door and peeked around the area outside. She was in a hallway of sorts which was garnished with expensive looking portraits and paintings with the occasional collectible artifact set up on pedestals.

Serenity turned to the left, figuring it best to walk away from the one who passed by her doorway earlier. She still stayed close to the wall, allowing it to help support her as her legs still trembled. It seemed like what would normally only take her several seconds to accomplish took her several painstaking minutes as she walked through the maze of hallways.

Serenity came to another divide and just as she was approaching, a small figure turned the corner and bumped into her. The impact was enough to throw her off balance and with nothing to grab onto, she was forced to brace herself for a fall. It didn't hurt physically as much as it did to her ego especially when she noted it was a small child who had crashed into her and sent her tumbling backwards.

Dark brown eyes flashed to meet with deep blue and concern filled them. Serenity blinked in surprise as the small girl with long dark hair and eyes the color of chocolate quickly stood and rushed towards her. While Serenity was unable to summon her powers as before, she could sense a purity coming from this child. It was almost as if she could see the bright and shining light of the child's starseed as she grew closer. That light and the innocent look on her face reminded Serenity most painfully of her daughter, Chibi Usa.

"Are you Okay?" The small girl questioned. Serenity nodded and attempted to stand but the young girl shook her head and held Serenity by her shoulders, insisting she not move until help arrived.

"Who are you?" Serenity questioned as she observed the child. Dark brown hair appeared black at first and chocolate eyes were set in a small face. Delicate was the perfect word to describe the girl before her. She looked frail as if the wind would be enough to throw her and make her shatter against the ground. Yet, Serenity sensed strength from her, too.

"Rin!" The small girl chirped with a broad smile stretching across her face. "Please don't move." The small girl-child pleaded with Serenity who made another move to stand.

"I have to get out of here," Serenity argued weakly as she attempted to shift around the girl. In her weakened state, even the strength of Rin was enough to hold her back and Serenity again silently cursed Fate for her current situation.

"You are still weak," Rin argued with her before calling out for Jaken. When no immediate reply came, Rin called out for Sesshomaru and that name halted Serenity in her tracks.

"Did you say Sesshomaru?" Serenity questioned as the image of a tall male youkai with long silver hair and gold eyes flashed to the front of her mind.

"Yes, Lord Sesshomaru brought you here to his home," Rin again grinned as if such a thing was normal and to be expected. Serenity caught herself from faultering as she renewed her attempts to escape and get as far from this place as possible. Unfortunately for her, Sesshomaru was quick to arrive after Rin's cry for him. Though it did not show on his face, he was surprised to find the strange woman he had brought from his half-brother's village was awake and roaming his home.

Gold eyes narrowed upon the silver haired woman who had managed to travel quite far from her rooms without detection. "Rin?" Sesshomaru turned his gaze to his young ward for an explination.

"Rin was going to check on Lord Sesshomaru's guest," Rin started while clasping her hands in front of her and playing with the sleeve of her kimono. "Rin was not paying attention and Rin ran into her. Rin is sorry!" Suddenly the small girl turned and bowed in apology to Serenity who was frozen to the spot unsure and struggling to figure a way out of this situation.

"What were you doing?" Sesshomaru demanded of Serenity and his gold eyes burned against her skin as he stared her down. Serenity fought the urge to bow her head in shame under his stern gaze and her temper flared as she recalled that she was brought here against her will! Using her anger to fuel her, Serenity stood with as much grace as possible given her limited energy reserves. Once on her feet, her hands rested on her his and she returned his glare.

"Better question," Blue eyes darkened as she stood her ground even though his stare made her feel small and insecure, especially with her powers unavailabe to her. "Why did you drag me here?!"

"This Sesshomaru needs not explain himself to you-"

"Excuse me?!" Serenity demanded while ignoring the darkness creeping around the edges of her vision. Blinking rapidly a few times, she managed to temporarily clear away the dark fog. "You had better explain why you kidnapped me!" Pain was starting to radiate from both temples and that pesky darkness was creeping even faster around the edge of her vision.

"Lord Sesshomaru-Sama," Rin was becoming worried as she noted the color drain from the woman's face. Had Lord Sesshomaru been any other person of lower standing, he would have rolled his eyes at the woman standing before him. When he failed to immediately respond to her allegations, she continued to argue and accuse him of many exaggerated misdeeds.

"Are you even listening to me?" Serenity demanded when she noted that he had failed to respond let alone acknowledge anything she had just said. Opening her mouth to continue her rant, her words were halted as her vision went blurry and her head felt light. Was the room spinning or was she? Why couldn't she feel her legs?

Rin screamed as Serenity's eyes rolled into the back of her head and her legs gave way. Serenity never hit the ground as Sesshomaru easily caught her and brought her against his chest. "She is fine, Rin." Sesshomaru offered and Rin ceased her screaming but nevertheless remained worried as she hoovered around Sesshomaru who carried the silver haired woman back towards her rooms.

Rin ran ahead of Sesshomaru once they entered the room and was quick to fix the sheets covering the bed prior to allowing Sesshomaru room to lay Serenity down. Sesshomaru's eyes softened ever so softly as he observed Rin carefully position and cover Serenity.

"Rin will stay with the Silver Lady," Rin offered while still making it sound like a request as she sought approval from her Lord. Sesshomaru considered it and nodded while silently planning to locate Jaken and send him to wait with Rin. While it was obvious that the woman was healed, she still appeared weak but was not to be underestimated.

Sesshomaru turned and quickly left the room in search of his servant. Upon finding the toad demon, Sesshomaru ordered him to watch over Rin and the woman. "Notify this Sesshomaru immediately should her condition change." Sesshomaru ordered and Jaken gulped before shuffling away.
