POV: Piper- Mark of Athena Chapter 4
A/N guess who's back, back again? Yea I'm back, tell yo friends! xD just kidding. I have a huge break this week for Halloween, so I'm going to have a lot of time for writing…YAY!
I'm also thinking about writing some Halloween fluff/one-shot drabbles for my OTPs (*cough*percabeth*cough*) probs some Hiccstrid as well. Feel free to comment your OTPs and I will see what I can do! back to the story, this is Piper and Percy still, I think they will head back to the ship next chapter, and we'll see what jason and annabeth have to say about these events (cue evil laughter…) Hope you enjoy it!
Piper never wanted to head back to the Argo II. The world under the sea was calming, powerful, welcoming. She felt at home here, and it almost reminded her of when she used to head to the coast to surf with her father. Underwater documentaries just couldn't do this place justice - bright corals, rippling sea plants, and flurries of small fish soaring past their heads. She could easily see why Percy called this place his second home. He had a constant posse of 10-20 fish following him wherever he went, though, which Piper found hilarious.
"You don't want to know," he had warned when she questioned him about it. They were currently walking side by side, feet grazing over the surprisingly warm sand. They came to the edge of a steep hill, and Percy grabbed her hand to stop her.
"I've got one more trick up my sleeve," He told her with a grin. He turned to walk a few feet behind them, and raised his hands. The sand and water immediately swirled up to follow his command, the sun catching the water and turning it thousands of different colors. Percy ran his hands horizontally, and created two thin… sand surfboards?
"Those will hold together?" Piper said, staring in awe. Percy shook his head, chuckling sadly.
"Piper, Piper, Piper. Many a time I have spent down here, learning to surf. They'll hold." Piper smacked his shoulder lightly as she walked forward to grab a board, and Percy's face scrunched up in mock pain. Percy grabbed his as well, and skipped in front of her, smiling to himself. Piper couldn't help but observed how young and carefree he seemed down here. His black hair shone in the water and floated around his head. His eyes shone with constant glee and excitement. Time seemed to stop, and there was no rush, no need to be angry, or sad.
Percy set his board next to hers, and carefully climbed on top.
"This basically works as a snowboard, let it do the work. I'll slow you down if you're going to fast, just shout and I'll work my magic."
"Some magic you got there, Jackson" Piper replied with a snort. Percy stopped to glare at her, but winked and wiggled his fingers.
"I wouldn't recommend looking behind you, the sand and water kicks up, and that's where the "waves" come in. It usually tunnels at the end, and you'll be fine then, but you don't want to go blind halfway down the hill, trust me." Piper nodded eagerly, and ran behind her board. She hadn't gone surfing since the Wilderness school had started up. Percy glanced at her, grinning and kicked off, slowly sliding down the hill. Piper ran towards her board, and leapt on, landing on her stomach and sending the board shooting forward. She stood up quickly, and spread out her arms for balance.
The sensation was unreal. Water swirled in front and around her feet, the speed making her look like an underwater comet. Her hair swirled around behind her, and wind flew into her face. She whooped in joy, zig-zagging back and forth. Percy cut across her path, and veered off towards a sand dune. He flew off, and flipped in midair, shouting in excitement. Piper laughed, and spread her arms out like wings. A group of tropical fish began to swim next to her, weaving in and out of her line of vision. Piper crouched low, and spun around in circles. The fish mimicked her actions, their scales glinting and flashing in the afternoon sun.
"Hey get ready, we're almost to the bottom!" Percy screamed over the rushing "wind". (a.n. is there wind underwater? oh well..) Piper stayed in a crouch, and watched in amazement as the sand and water began to curl over itself. Angling her board sideways, she dipped towards the entrance of the funnel, and spread her arms again.
The waves seemed to take on every shade of blue and green. She could see her shadow rippling as she hurtled across the sand. Reaching out her hand, she dipped her fingers into the wave, and watched as the water droplets danced across her palm. Piper lost all sense of time and worry, and didn't even notice she left the tunnel. She was snapped back to reality when she heard Percy yelling her name, and found herself rocketing straight towards a small boulder poking out of the water. Her board disintegrated on impact, and Piper went flying into the air.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Percy shoot his hand out. The water molded around her, and seemed to form a cocoon. She hit the sound, but bounced up again like a pillow. She rolled to a stop, and climbed out of the water shell, laughing. Strolling back over to Percy, she grinned and slapped his shoulder lightly.
"Thanks for the help back there, Aqua Boy," she teased. Percy stuck his tongue out at her, and frowned.
"Again with the nicknames!" Piper laughed and Percy opened his arms. "You're welcome though. Can't imagine you'd be very happy with me if I just let you hit the ground." Piper smiled, and walked up to Percy. She wrapped her arms around him, and leaned into his warm figure. Even underwater, he still carried that ocean breeze scent with him, but here it seemed to fit better. He seemed like the essence of the ocean itself: calm, yet powerful. Cautious, yet carefree
"Thank you again for today," She murmured. "It's nice to get away from the panic every once in a while." She could feel Percy chuckling against her.
"No problem, Pipes." She pulled away, and glanced up at Percy. He smiled at her, and his eyes suddenly widened in surprise. "Whoa, Piper how did you do that?"
"What?" Percy brought some water towards her and she gaped at her reflection. Her eyes were a beautiful sea green-the same color as Percy's. She grinned. "I have no idea. I wonder if I can do that with the others too," Piper tried to focus on Annabeth's-her stormy grey eyes and constant powerful stare-and looked back up at Percy. "Anything?"
Percy shook his head. "Not that I can tell. Maybe it's just if you've been around someone for a while, or if you understand their feelings. Like telepathy! Quick I'm thinking of a number one through ten," Percy scrunched his eyes closed in concentration.
"I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works." Percy frowned, and turned his head up to the sky. The waves were fading to a rosy pink color at the surface. The sun had long since disappeared, and all the fish were floating drowsily above the ocean floor. Piper sighed, knowing they had to return back to the crew. Percy seemed to sense her disappointment, and he slung an arm around her shoulder.
"Well Pipes, I think it's time we head back to our family," he said, his green eyes glowing softly in the dim water. Piper nodded and clung to Percy's side as he slowly lifted them back up to Argo II, and back to the real world.
