Meera: The girls are back!
Juliet: Together in one movie this time.
Meera: And this time there was good food!
Juliet: Something surprisingly rare in our adventures. Mainly because there isn't really any time to eat.
Meera: The bright side of that though is I'm not usually accidentally poisoned.
Juliet: You weren't really poisoned though, you were… well, let's let them see what happens.
Meera: Sounds good to me. Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoy the story.
Juliet: We don't own anything. The Emperor's New Groove belongs to Disney. Hope you enjoy!
Regaining Our Groove
Juliet was happy to get out of the jungle but was confused when she exited the portal into what looked like a kitchen.
"Hello, Juliet," Meera said sheepishly.
Looking over to the sound of Meera's voice, Juliet spotted her sitting on the counter, a bowl of some sort of food in her hand. It was a bit jarring being addressed so formally by someone who wasn't that formal. But she moved past it, choosing to ignore the formality for now.
"Hey, Meera. Where are we? And what are you eating?" she asked.
Meera shrugged. "I have no idea," she replied. "I fell into the kitchen like you did. Well, except you didn't fall. More like just popped in. But, hey, who's paying attention to details like that." Meera grinned, though it was slightly off. "This is spinach. I left the room to hit the head and when I came back there was a bowl of it on the counter."
"I'm surprised you didn't run off. You're usually gung-ho about getting to character stuff and messing with the plot," Juliet commented.
Meera shifted slightly on the counter. "I thought maybe it would be better to not get involved this time," she murmured, pointedly avoiding eye contact. It clicked in Juliet's head that this was Meera trying to live up to her promise of trying to better herself, which meant not running off to try and score the hottest guy in the movie.
"Well at least we're together again," Juliet said, looking at the bright side.
This time, Meera's grin was genuine. "True!" she said. "Do you have any idea what movie we're in? I really haven't been paying attention."
"Let's see, what Disney movie would have a kitchen in it featuring spinach?" Juliet pondered.
"Hey!" a deep voice called out. "What are you two doing in here?"
"Emperor's New Groove," Meera answered Juliet's question. Though seeing how Kronk walked into the kitchen it became a bit obvious. Meera turned to Kronk. "We're your cooking assistants. I'm Meera, and this is my fri...this is Juliet."
Juliet looked at Meera a bit concerned as to why she stopped herself saying friend. She didn't get a chance to talk to her about it though as Kronk went right into believing Meera's lie.
"Great! I could use some help. I've got a pretty big… dinner… to prepare for the Emperor, Emperor Kuzco," he told them.
"You didn't need the spinach for that, did you?" Meera asked chucking the bowl in the sink quickly.
"Well, uh," Kronk hummed before smiling. "I've got more."
"I'll go grab it for you," Meera volunteered hopping off the counter, revealing a half-eaten container of puff pastry. "Where can I find some?"
"You know, maybe it would be best if you helped set up the dining room table," Kronk suggested helpfully.
"Okay," Meera agreed.
"I'll get started on making more puff pastry," Juliet offered, shaking her head in both amusement and annoyance at her friend's hunger.
An hour later the dining room was set up and most of the food was ready for dinner. Meera and Juliet were applying the last finishing touches to the dining room table when Yzma appeared.
"So is everything ready for… who are you? Where's Kronk?" Yzma asked.
"They're my cooking assistants!" Kronk announced cheerfully. "This is Meera and Juliet. I asked them to join us for dinner."
Meera jumped in surprise. "Oh, we couldn't stay…"
"Nonsense," Kronk replied. "You have to taste how the food came out."
"But we're not supposed to be involved!" Meera cried.
"Krooonk!" Yzma groaned. "You told them about the plan?"
"I don't know," Kronk replied puzzled. "Do you mean the plan to poison Kuzco?" Yzma, Meera, and Juliet facepalmed.
"Yes, that plan," Yzma snapped.
"I guess that means we're involved now," Juliet shrugged awkwardly
"Fine, fine," Yzma sighed. "Do you have everything ready for tonight?"
"Oh, yeah," Kronk said reassuringly. "I thought we'd start off with soup and a light salad. See how we feel after that."
"Not the dinner," Yzma said. "The… you know?"
"Right!" Kronk exclaimed. "The poison. The poison for Kuzco, the poison chosen specifically to kill Kuzco. Kuzco's poison. That poison?"
"Yes, that poison!" Yzma snapped.
"Got you covered," Kronk said patting his hand over the pocket of his apron.
"Excellent. A few drops in his drink, then I'll propose a toast, and he will be dead before dessert," Yzma celebrated.
"Which is a real shame, because it's gonna be delicious," Meera frowned.
The conversation was cut off as the door to the dining room was kicked open by none other than Kuzco himself. "Boom, baby!" he exclaimed, making quite the entrance. He headed over to his seat but looked confused seeing two extra people in the room. "Uh, who are they?"
"They're my cooking assistants," Kronk happily told him. "They're two of the best. Meera is a very helpful food taster."
"Well I guess the exotic one can stay," Kuzco said.
"Why thank you," Meera smiled, taking it as a compliment.
"Not you, the redhead," Kuzco corrected. Meera looked very much like she wanted to give Kuzco real poison.
"Hey, now," Kronk admonished gently. "Meera's good company." He placed a broad hand on her shoulder comfortingly. Meera looked surprised by his words.
"Fine, they can both stay," Kuzco grumbled. "Let's get to the grub. I am one hungry king of the world." He turned to face Yzma. "So, no hard feelings about being let go?"
"None whatsoever," Yzma said between her teeth. "Kronk, get the Emperor a drink."
"Drink! Riiiiiiiiiiiight," Kronk agreed completely suspiciously, not that Kuzco noticed. Heading over to the little bar area Kronk began to pour the drinks while everyone else stood around awkwardly. From their position, Meera and Juliet were able to see the little mushroom cloud explosion when Kronk poured the poison into one of the chalices. It did not look friendly at all. When he was done Kronk headed back over the table and offered up a specific chalice to Kuzco.
"Your Highness," he offered.
"Is something burning?" Kuzco commented.
"My spinach puffs!" Kronk cried, dropping the tray of drinks in the middle of the table. Awkwardness once again.
"So… he seems nice," Kuzco said.
"Heh. He is," Yzma said, clearly uncomfortable.
"He's what? In his late twenties?" Kuzco asked before eyeing both of the girls. "A little older than these two?"
"I'm, uh, not sure," Yzma replied.
"Saved them!" Kronk announced cheerfully carrying in his spinach puffs and offering the first one to Meera, who beamed.
"Thank god," Juliet muttered, happy that the awkwardness ended.
"Good job," Kuzco complemented the man.
"Watch it. They're still hot," Krunk advised as he began serving the spinach puffs to the rest of them.
"Ahem! Heh heh heh. Kronk, the Emperor needs his drink," Yzma reminded him.
"Right!" Kronk exclaimed, remembering his job. "Oh… riiiiiiiiiiiight." He went back to the drinks and then froze. He looked sheepishly around the table before picking the chalices back up and rushing over to the bar. Meera and Juliet fidgeted in their seats as another awkward moment settled over the room.
"Hey, Kronky, everything okay back there?" Kuzco asked.
"Oh, uh, the drinks were a bit on the, uh, warmside," Kronk fumbled. "Hey, did you see that sky today? Talk about blue." He finally came back over with the drinks, handing a chalice to each of them.
"Ha ha, yes, Kronk, riveting. A toast to the Emperor! Long live Kuzco," Yzma toasted, raising her glass.
"Don't drink the wine," Krunk told the others underneath his breath while Kuzco drank down the whole of what was in his chalice. Yzma tossed hers into a nearby cactus while the girls simply sat theirs down on the table. Kronk being Kronk pretended to drink it while spilling his down onto himself.
"Ah, tasty!" Kuzco smiled before passing out on his empty plate.
"Now to get rid of the body!" Yzma exclaimed cheerfully.
"Okay!" Kuzco's voice suddenly filled the room again. Yzma and Kronk stared over at him in shock. "So what were we saying?"
"Uh… we were just making a toast to your long and… healthy rule," Yzma lied. It was then that the shock on Kronk and Yzma's face grew more intense as Kuzco started to transform into a llama.
"Right. So what are you gonna do? I mean, you've been around here a long time, and I really mean a long time. It might be difficult for someone of your age adjusting to life in the private sector," Kuzco continued on, not realizing what was happening to him. "Hey, Kronk, can you top me off, pal? Be a friend?"
Kronk stood where he was not knowing what to do. While Kuzco continued on Yzma tried to motion to Kronk to hit Kuzco over the head. The girls just remained quiet.
"Now, about you finding new work… because you know, let's face it. You're no spring chicken, and I mean that in the best possible way," Kuzco said.
Finally, Kronk got what Yzma was trying to tell him and took a bowl of broccoli and whacked Kuzco over the head, knocking him out.
"A llama?! He's supposed to be dead!" Yzma shrieked.
"Yeah, weird," Kronk commented, staring down at Kuzco.
"Let me have that vial," Yzma hissed. Kronk handed it over. "This isn't poison. This is extract of…. LLAMA! Ugh!"
"You know, in my defense, your potions all look alike," Kronk replied sullenly. "You might want to think about relabeling some of them."
"Grrr!" Yzma growled before pulling herself together. "Take him out of town and finish the job now!"
"What about dinner?" Kronk asked.
"Kronk, this is kind of important," Yzma sighed.
"How about dessert?" Kronk suggested hopefully.
"Ooh dessert!" Meera cut in. "I love dessert!"
"Well, I suppose there's time for dessert," Yzma conceded.
"And coffee?" Kronk said, pushing his luck.
"Alright, a quick cup of coffee and then take him out of town and finish the job!"
The two started to head off to the kitchen after stuffing Kuzco into a sack. Meera started to follow them but Juliet grabbed her arm.
"What are you doing?" Juliet asked.
"Umm, well, dessert?" Meera replied.
"Unfortunately no. We need to get out of here and find Pacha so that we can continue following the plot," Juliet explained.
"Okay, just, let me have the last spinach puff," Meera said already grabbing it off the plate. She more inhaled it than ate it and then picked up her chalice and drank from it.
"Meera don't! The llama…," Juliet tried to warn her but it was too late. Meera toppled over unconscious for just a minute before waking back up.
"Why am I on the floor?" she groaned.
"You just drank the llama...extract," Juliet answered already seeing the transformation start. A pop of llama ears, the lengthening of the neck, hooves instead of hands. In no time, Meera was a llama. Her head had long black hair like her human form, but the rest of her fur was the same peach color her dress had been.
"I can't be a llama!" Meera wailed.
"Looks like a little goes a long way," Juliet noted.
"Why must Disney insist on changing my species?!" Meera groaned at her reflection on an empty tray on the table. "Juliet, you need to do something!"
"Like what?" Juliet asked.
"Like find Yzma'a lab and get the human extract!" Meera exclaimed.
"Kuzco's gonna need that though," Juliet told her.
"He doesn't need the whole thing," Meera pointed out. "Both of us only drank a little of the llama extract. Look, you go find her lab. I'll keep watch here."
Juliet sighed, "Alright. I'll try." She checked to see that Kronk and Yzma were still in the kitchen Juliet then snuck off in search of Yzma's secret lab, somewhere in the immense palace.
Meera watched Juliet sneak out of the room before she started walking clumsily in anxious circles around the table. She carefully avoided looking at any reflective surface. About the fifth time around the table and she finally got used to her new legs.
"Hey!" Kronk exclaimed in surprise. Meera realized with a start that he thought she was Kuzco. She tried to tell him who she really was but before she could get a word out she was hit hard in the back of her head and fell unconscious.
It took Juliet a while to find the appropriate staircase that housed the entrance to Yzma's secret lab. The palace was huge and she was sure she spent more time then she wanted just trying to figure out the hallways. But she found it and all she needed to do was remember which was the correct lever to pull to send her into the lab and not to the alligator pit. Juliet was about to pull the left lever when she heard footsteps. Turning around she saw that it was Yzma. Juliet froze not knowing what to do.
"Aren't you supposed to be in the kitchen?" Yzma asked.
"Uh, just came down here to let you know that Kronk has left with… the llama," Juliet lied.
"Well that was fast," Yzma commented. "Thanks for the update. Now head back upstairs! I have private matters to attend to."
Seeing that she wasn't going to be getting into the lab anytime soon Juliet did as Yzma said and decided to head back upstairs to meet with Meera. Looks like they were just gonna have to deal with llama Meera for now. When she got to the dining room Juliet stopped as she saw Kronk stuffing a llama in a bag. Kronk noticed the girl come in and smiled.
"Oh, Juliet. There you are. I was just about to head out," Kronk said.
"I thought you already bagged Kuzco," Juliet asked confused.
"I did. He somehow managed to get out though. Had to knock him out again. Not to worry. The plan's still going great," he explained. Looking back at the bag Juliet's eyes widened when she noticed that the llama's fur was Meera's peach and black instead of Kuzco's red and black. "Tell Meera that the rest of the picarones are up for grabs when you see her."
"Yeah, sure," Juliet laughed nervously.
She watched as Kronk tossed the bag of llamas over his shoulder and headed out, beginning to hum what sounded like a spy tune. Once he was out of the room Juliet let out a frustrated groan as she leaned against the dining room table. What was she gonna do? Meera was on her way over a man made waterfall. And it wasn't like she could just catch up with Kronk to stop it from happening. That would screw with the plot. And Kuzco still needed to end up with Pacha.
"Pacha!" Juliet exclaimed, having an epiphany.
The bag Kuzco was in would end up on Pacha's kart so, in turn, Meera would end up there as well. She just needed to reach Pacha. Sprinting out of the room Juliet tried her best to navigate the palace halls and make her way towards the entrance. Heading down the stairs Juliet found herself surrounded by the palace workers and summoned peasants trying to get home to their families. She looked over people's heads trying to find where Pacha might be. Hearing Kronk shout helped.
"Hey, you with the cart!"
Seeing where Kronk was heading Juliet followed after. Unfortunately, Kronk had to come to a stop, having lost Pacha in the crowd. Luckily for Juliet, she figured out that he'd be heading out of the palace area and from there on all she had to do was follow the tracks his cart made. Easy.
And by easy Disney meant that they were gonna make her work for it. She thought that perhaps there'd be time where Pacha was talking with his wife so that she could grab Meera but nope, that's not what the plot had planned. Instead, she arrived when the llama was already out of the bag and was arguing with Pacha.
"Why would I kidnap a llama?" Pacha questioned.
"I have no idea. You're the criminal mastermind, not me," Kuzco sassed.
"What?" Pacha asked in disbelief.
"You're right. That's giving you way too much credit. Okay. I have to get back to the palace. Yzma's got that 'secret lab'. I'll just snap my fingers and order her to change me back. Hey, you. No waste. Let's go. Hey, tiny, I want to get out of this body. Wouldn't you? Now let's go," Kuzco demanded and began to walk off.
Pacha didn't move, figuring out if he could make a deal. "Build your summerhouse somewhere else," he told Kuzco.
"You want to run that by me again?" Kuzco questioned, his eyes narrowing.
"I can't let you go back unless you change your mind and build your summer home somewhere else," Pacha explained.
"Hmm, I got a little secret for you," Kuzco said and beckoned Pacha closer to him. "I don't make deals with peasants!"
"Then I guess I can't take you back," Pacha refused.
"Fine. I don't need you. I can find my own way back," Kuzco said and began to walk into the jungle.
Juliet watched as Pacha, still being the nice guy, tried to warn Kuzco that he shouldn't do that and that the jungle was dangerous but the llamafied emperor didn't listen. In fact, Kuzco made it a point to show that he wasn't listening. Juliet couldn't help but rolled her eyes. She knew Kuzco was a teenager but plugging your ears and going la la la was more the kidish thing to do. Once he was gone Juliet decided to take a chance and ask Pacha if she could look in his bag. He was a nice guy, surely he'd allow her.
"Excuse me," she said drawing attention to herself. Pacha looked up surprised to find a woman that wasn't from his village out so late without any travel supplies. "I'm sorry, but I think you might have taken my bag by mistake back at the palace."
"I'm sorry, Miss. But I don't think this would be the bag you're looking for," Pacha apologized.
"You'd be surprised. You see… and this is gonna sound a bit crazy… I'm looking for a talking llama," Juliet explained.
Pacha's eyes widened, not believing all the craziness that was happening that day. "I'm sorry, Miss, but the bag is empty. Your… talking llama just headed off into the jungle. Not sure why you'd want to deal with him though," Pacha told her.
"The bag is empty?" Juliet asked.
"Yep," Pacha answered.
"Great," Juliet sighed. Looks like Meera was off once again. "Thank you for your help. Looks like I'm just gonna have to go after her."
"I wouldn't advise that. The jungle's dangerous if you don't know the way," Pacha advised.
"Don't worry. I'm a big, tough girl. I can tie my own sandals and everything. I'll be fine," Juliet assured him and then headed off.
Once she was almost gone Pacha realized what she said and shouted back to her confused. "Wait, 'her'?" he questioned. But he didn't get an answer as Juliet was already gone.
Flashback
When Meera regained consciousness she opened her eyes to darkness. Startled, she tried to raise her head but found herself pinned down. In a panic she began to squirm around frantically, trying to shift the weight off her, but to no effect. She forced herself to take a few deep calming breaths, and tried to remember what had happened.
Slowly, her memory came back to her. She had been turned into a llama and when Kronk and Yzma had been off eating dessert she had begged Juliet to go find the human extract. But then Kronk had come back and thought she was Kuzco. He must have knocked her out and stuffed her in the sack with Kuzco. And that's who was pinning her down.
Somehow he had gotten on top of her. And she guessed since she was the only one freaking out that he had yet to wake up. Well, if they were going to be stuck this close together they were finding a more comfortable position. She began to squirm again, trying to wake up Kuzco. Her movement must have caught someone's attention though, as the sack they were in was opened. Meera couldn't turn her head enough to see who had opened the bag, but the person's voice sounded familiar.
"Where'd you come from, little guy?" the man asked.
"No touchy," a now awake Kuzco snapped. Meera winced when the guy screamed.
"Aaah! Demon llama!"
"Demon llama?!" Kuzco cried tumbling out of the sack. "Where?!"
Meera poked her head cautiously out of the sack. Her eyes widened when she realized she was no longer at the palace. She scanned her eyes over the tiny village. There was no sign of Juliet. She groaned. Her fri…. Juliet would be annoyed with her when they met up again. She was messing up the plot.
She took a deep breath. It wasn't as bad as she was thinking. Neither Kuzco or Pacha had noticed her. If she snuck away quietly she wouldn't mess anything up more than she already did. Carefully, she extracted herself from the sack and tiptoed quietly behind Pacha's house. She circled it, being careful to keep her footsteps quiet, and then climbed over the gate as best she could as a llama. She made a soft thud when she hit the ground, but Pacha and Kuzco did not hear her over their argument.
Quickly, she scurried off into the jungle. She just had to get back to the palace without messing up the plot. Hopefully, Juliet wouldn't be too mad at her. After all, it's not like she had messed things up on purpose this time.
End Flashback
In retrospect, maybe wandering off into the jungle wasn't such a great idea. Meera glanced around her nervously. It was dark and the tree leaves were blocking out the moonlight. She couldn't see more than a few feet ahead of her. Every sound made her jump and sounded more ominous than the last. She was close to panicking completely, tensed to run at the first threat. She forced herself to take a few deep breaths.
"Find a clearing, Meera," she encouraged herself. She knew if she could find an open clearing or meadow, the moon would shine brightly there. And that is where she would spend the rest of her night. She didn't care how angry Juliet would be. She wasn't going to travel any further in this jungle at night once she found her clearing. She just had to keep it together until she found one.
Stepping through some tall ferns she came to a halt. All around her were sleeping jaguars. And in the middle of this mess was Kuzco… and a pissed off squirrel. Meera closed her eyes and sighed in exasperation. "Karma's a bitch," she grumbled under her breath as the squirrel burst his balloon. Meera couldn't fathom how a squirrel had gotten a balloon or figured out how to use it, but at this point, she should probably stop trying to understand Disney logic.
She opened her eyes to see that the jaguars were still asleep. She frowned. Didn't they go after Kuzco?
"Ha!" Kuzco shouted triumphantly, startling the jaguars awake. Half of them looked her way.
"You idiot!" she shrieked before charging towards him and dragging him off into the jungle.
"Hey! No touchy!" Kuzco whined as they ran through the jungle.
"You know I could just trip you," Meera commented. "I only have to be faster than the person behind me." She let him go and quickened her pace, putting herself in front of Kuzco.
"No, wait!" Kuzco panted rushing to match her pace as the jaguars yowled, sounding closer than before. "Don't leave me!"
"You had to piss off the squirrel, didn't you?" Meera gasped running out of breath. She was relieved when she saw the trees thinning ahead. If she could get to an open space she might be able to see a way to ditch the jaguars. She nudged Kuzco's shoulder urging him on. "Come on! Right ahead!" Together they burst through the trees...just to find themselves on the edge of a cliff. "This isn't what I had in mind."
"Yeah. No kidding," Kuzco snapped. They both turned around to face the jaguars, slowly moving towards them. They were crouched low to the ground and ready to spring. Meera had seen enough animal planet to know this wouldn't be pretty. She glanced over her shoulder and stared over the cliff. She could see there was water down below. She had no idea how deep it was, but at this point, she would take her chances.
"Geronimo!" she cried throwing herself over the cliff.
Meera didn't fall far before she was caught. Looking up Meera was elated to find that Juliet had saved her from what would've been a deadly fall.
"Don't worry, Meera, I got you," Juliet assured her friend. Her hand was wrapped tight around a vine, swinging to a safer place than where Kuzco had been.
"I thought you were back at the palace," Meera cried.
"Once I saw that Kronk sacked you I ran out here as soon as I could. I wasn't gonna just leave you behind as a llama. We've been separated enough with and without the transformation shit," Juliet explained, keeping her eyes open for a solid place to land. She wasn't gonna George of the Jungle this rescue. Finding a nice plateau coming up ahead, Juliet let go of the vine once they were above it, landing safely with Meera.
"You don't happen to have the human extract, do you?" Meera asked hopefully.
"Sorry, didn't get there fast enough before Yzma came down," Juliet apologized.
"But I don't like being a llama!" Meera wailed. "Scary jungle cats try and eat me!"
"I remember when you were a scary cat not that long ago," Juliet smirked.
Meera tensed. "Yeah. You're right," she said woodenly. "I deserved it." She then forced a smile. "Okay, so are we going back to the palace?"
Juliet looked at Meera a bit confused, curious about her shift but didn't mention it. "Perhaps we should make our way back there. After all, that's where Pacha and Kuzco are heading and it would be wise to stick with the flow of the story," Juliet thought out.
"Right. The story. Wouldn't want to shake things up," Meera agreed, still sounding a little forced. "You don't happen to know the way back to the palace, do you?"
"Not from here. It'd be easier if we left from Pacha's village but it looks like we're gonna be on our own with this one," Juliet admitted.
"Well, there's a bridge we have to cross right?" Meera asked. "And it goes over a river. It's probably the same river as the one Kuzco and Pacha just got dumped in. Maybe we should just follow it?"
"It's a good start," Juliet agreed. "Alright then, we better get moving."
The two trailed alongside the river from the cliff above, doing their best to search for the bridge. Juliet asked Meera how her trip in the bag was to which she answered uncomfortable before going on a rant about Kuzco and what an idiot he was. After that Meera was unusually quiet. Eventually, the came across the bridge, or where the bridge used to be.
Meera sighed. "We got here too late."
"Looks like we're gonna have to find a different way to the palace," Juliet said.
Just as they were gonna turn back the ground beneath their feet fall. In a cartoonish style, Meera and Juliet stayed where they were before falling a few stories in the water below. Screams were subdued once they hit the water, going under for a moment before swimming back up for air. Juliet surfaced and looked around frantically for Meera. She was relieved to see her only a few feet away.
"Swimming as a llama is hard," Meera grumbled under her breath as she made her way to shallower water where she could stand. Right now her hooves were just barely scraping the bottom.
"At least we don't have to deal with a waterfall," Juliet said, swimming over to the shallows faster than her friend.
"Yeah, well…" Meera cut off her sentence as she felt the water stir near her. She glanced towards the disturbance and saw the water rippling a few feet to her left. Frowning, she leaned over towards the rippling water to see what was causing the disturbance. Her eyes widened in shock and she stumbled a few steps to her right. Frantically, she began moving closer to shore, but her hooves kept slipping on the rocks.
"Meera, what's gotten into you?" Juliet asked confused. Seeing an alligator bob up from the water she understood why her friend was so frantic. "Nevermind." The redhead was quick to head to the shoreline, grabbing hold of a floating branch in case she needed to use it to fend off any hungry gators.
Meera was just able to avoid an alligator as she was finally able to gain her footing. She reared around to face one coming straight for her. She stood up on her hind legs and then came crashing down on the gator's snout. "Why are there even alligators in South America?" she snapped.
"I don't know. Guess Disney wasn't trying to be accurate with information in their movies just yet," Juliet said, taking a swing at an alligator who was swimming too close for her liking.
"Yeah, well Disney can kiss my ass!" Meera cried rearing back from a snapping snout. However, she moved too quickly and lost her footing. Her left hoof came out from under her, and she couldn't get back on her feet in time to fend off a nearby gator. She opened her mouth to scream when an acorn landed hard on the alligator's head, causing it to swim away a few feet. Meera regained her footing and took the opportunity to move closer to the shore.
More acorns rained down into the water. It seemed to confuse the gators more than anything but it gave the girls the time to get out of the water and run further into the jungle away from everything. Once they were a good distance away Juliet and Meera stopped, water dripping off of them while they tried to catch their breath.
"What... just happened?" Juliet panted.
Meera shrugged. "Divine intervention?" Suddenly, the branches above their heads began to rustle. Meera shrieked. "It's the jaguars! They found us!"
What popped out from the branches instead was a squirrel. "Oh thank god, it's just a squirrel," Juliet let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, I know you!" Meera cried. "Squeak squeaker squeak squeakigess!"
"You know how to speak squirrel?" Juliet questioned.
"I think I can understand all animals in my current state, actually," Meera said. "Those jaguars were not happy about being woken up. Their cursing puts you to shame."
"I guess that makes sense. So what is our squirrel friend saying?" Juliet asked.
"He said he's the one who was throwing the acorns," Meera explained. The squirrel began chattering again. "And that he's sorry he got me into trouble with the jaguars. He only wanted to get Kuzco back for being mean to him." The squirrel squeaked some more. "He also said he was still feeling angry a few moments ago until he ran into some nice guy who speaks squirrel." Meera turned to the squirrel then. "Squeak, squeak, squeaker, squeaker. Squeaking squeakers squeak?"
"Care to translate for me?" Juliet suggested.
"Oh, I just thanked him for saving us and asked if he knew a place where we could get something to eat," Meera said. "I'm starving!"
Juliet stared at her for a minute before laughing. "I guess a near death experience would make you hungry. Alright, does he have a good suggestion?"
The squirrel chittered for a moment and Meera nodded. "He said there's a diner not too far from here. It's just a fifteen-minute walk in that direction." Meera pointed to the right.
"Off to get food we go. Thanks again, Mr. Squirrel," Juliet smiled.
"Squeak squeak," Meera translated. "Squeaking squeak!" Meera glanced at Juliet's confused face. "I said goodbye."
"Ah, okay. So food?" Juliet said.
"You have to ask?" Meera replied.
Juliet laughed once again. Soon enough the girls headed towards the right to the restaurant. When they came there the two paused outside, spotting a sign that said no llamas allowed. The girls looked at each other wondering how they were gonna work their way around this.
"You've got any under clothes under that dress?" Meera asked.
"None that will fit a llama," Juliet replied.
Meera gave her a look. "Your dress will fit," Meera pointed out. "And we can use the sash around your waist to cover my ears."
Juliet sighed and began to undress. "You're lucky Disney put me in a slip," she said.
"Cool," Meera replied as Juliet helped pull the dress over her head. "Maybe someone will think we're on our honeymoon and we'll get special treatment."
"I think they might think we're having a girls trip than a honeymoon," Juliet replied.
"People and their assumptions," Meera muttered. "No one ever stops and thinks hey they might be a couple."
"Disney hasn't really been big with sexual diversity," Juliet pointed out. "The closest they get is in Frozen and that's only by fan speculation. Plus, you're not even LGBTQ+."
"I'm just saying, people really got to be more open minded," Meera said. "It takes all kinds."
Helping Meera finish up the disguise, Juliet tucked her friend's llama ears underneath the sash headdress, making sure it was secure. "Okay, I think you're all ready," Juliet said.
"I'm always ready...oh, you meant the disguise," Meera replied. "Great! Let's eat!" The two entered the diner. Meera started to make her way to a booth when Juliet yanked her in the opposite direction. "What?"
"Care to tell me who you see over there?" Juliet asked.
"A lady who's scary beyond reason and… oh! It's Kronk and Yzma!" Meera exclaimed. "Hey…"
"Perhaps we should stay out of all the trouble that's gonna go down," Juliet suggested.
"Oh, yeah, right," Meera agreed sheepishly. "Sorry, wasn't thinking.". They found a table where they were hidden away and the waitress quickly came over with menus. Meera scowled at the menu. "What even is this?"
"A mixture of Peruvian food and weird Disney concoctions. Like making bugs look tasty and other things like that," Juliet sumissed.
"Yeah, I'm going to go ask for a burger," Meera replied sliding out of the booth.
"I don't know if that's a good idea," Juliet said, putting her menu down.
"They won't recognize me," Meera assured her. "Besides Kronk just disappeared. It'll be fine." She quickly trotted off towards the kitchen and bumped the door open. "Hey, could you make a burger?"
"How do you want it cooked?" Kronk asked, apparently standing in for the chef.
"Well done" Meera answered.
"Coming right up," Kronk replied.
Meera started to head back to the table but turned around. The entrance door was swinging as if someone had just gone in, but she wasn't paying attention. She ducked back into the kitchen. "You know what, make it a medium-well," she amended.
"Anything on the side?" Kronk asked.
"Potatoes? Meera asked. "Hold the cheese."
"Got it." And then a few seconds later. "Spuds and cheese, okay."
"I said no cheese!" Meera rushed back in.
"Okay, hold the cheese." She heard Kronk sigh in exasperation. "You have to make up your mind."
Meera sighed. "Make my potatoes a salad." She hurried back to her table.
"Get everything you wanted?" Juliet asked as her friend slid back into the booth.
"Well, I really wanted potatoes but Kronk couldn't seem to keep whether I wanted cheese on them or not. He implied I kept changing my mind and… oh, wait. Sorry. I didn't mean to interact with anyone!"
"It's fine Meera. I'm sure all you did was just contribute to the bit already going on," Juliet shrugged off, playing with her napkin.
"Yeah, but I wasn't supposed to interact or add to the plot at all!" Meera wailed. "I mess everything up even when I try not to!"
"Meera, you're overreacting. It's not that big of a deal," Juliet tried to assure her.
"Yes it is!" Meera insisted. " I'm going to mess something up badly and then you're going to hate me again!"
"Calm down," Juliet said, taking Meera's hoof in her hand. "Is this why you've been acting weird? You're worried you're gonna mess up the plot?"
"I thought if I just stayed quietly in the kitchen everything would be fine," Meera said dangerously close to tears. "I didn't realize it was Kronk's kitchen. We shouldn't have ever left the palace but we did. And it's my fault because I got us wrapped in the plot. And now we're changing things! And nothing I do is ever right!" She was getting louder with every word.
"Shhh!" Juliet hushed. "Look. It's okay to interact with characters, with the story. You don't have to be scared of moving when we're thrown in here. That's what we've been doing ever since we got dragged into this craziness. We follow the plot, we interact with characters to keep things moving. Granted that doesn't mean I want you gallivanting off to find the hottest guy to hook up with but I understand if you make a mistake. You've already shown how much you're trying to change and that's not exactly a smooth road for anyone when they decide to change their ways. You're doing fine. I promise."
Meera nodded her head, looking a little more herself. "Thanks Juliet," she said.
"Jewels," Juliet corrected.
This time Meera's smile was genuine. "Jewels," she repeated. "And the guy I want isn't in this movie anyway."
"Oh really?" Juliet smirked. "Missing Gaston are we?"
"Well… he was fun, but no," Meera answered. "That wasn't real like what I had with…"
"A topic for another day?" Juliet asked when she realized Meera wasn't gonna finish that sentence.
"It was right after… you know," Meera explained. "I'm not sure you really want to know what I was up to."
"Want to tell me the movie at least?" Juliet asked.
"Pocahontas," Meera answered.
"Hmmm… I'm not even sure what you would've gotten up to in that one," Juliet tried to think. "From the sounds of your previous statement, I'd guess some more sexcapades."
Meera laughed. "I'm not even sure he knew what his dick was for!"
Juliet laughed. "Perhaps you can tell me more once we get out of here. Maybe during a nice night in with our beverages of choice," she suggested.
Meera glanced at her carefully. Juliet didn't seem like she was just playing along to keep things from getting awkward. She seemed genuinely curious. Meera took a deep breath. "Thomas. It was Thomas."
"Oh! Wow, wasn't expecting that," Juliet said surprised.
Meera smiled wistfully, an oddly serene expression on her face. "Me either," she admitted. "I wasn't even trying to get with him. Or with anyone. It just happened." Her smile dimmed. "I almost wish it didn't happen though. I'll never see him again."
Juliet reached over and patted Meera's hoof. "Bittersweet love is tough. Even if it was just a chance attraction," she said.
Meera smiled and then shook her head. "He really was innocent though," she said. "He didn't make one sexual comment about me."
"Wow, managed to run into a sweet one. Those tend to be rare nowadays," Juliet commented.
"True, and especially…" Meera broke off. "Um… everyone's gone."
Juliet looked around the restaurant. It was true, the only people remaining were them and the staff.
"Shit. Looks like we're skipping lunch," Juliet said sliding out of her seat and headed towards the door.
"We always miss lunch," Meera grumbled following after her.
As soon as they walked out the door Juliet accidentally bumped into someone, causing Meera to run into her, causing the sash around her ears to fall back, landing around her long neck. Looking up Juliet discovered that the person she bumped into was Kronk.
"I'm sorry, Miss. I…," Kronk went to apologize before realizing who it was. "Oh, Juliet! How've ya been? It's been a while since I saw you. Is Meera around? I figured she must have caught up with you."
" Uh, actually…" Juliet started, not knowing how to explain things.
"Who's that behind you?" Kronk asked.
"Um, this is my llama…" Juliet went to explain.
"I am not a llama!" Meera protested. Juliet glared at her.
"Another talking llama?!" Yzma groaned.
"I know that voice!" Kronk exclaimed. "It's…. No, wait… give me a moment… you're…."
"It's your cooking assistant!" Yzma hissed.
"Meera!" Kronk cried delightedly and then his expression grew serious. "Well, that explains why you're wearing clothes. But how did you get here? And why are you a llama?"
"Well I accidentally drank some llama extract," Meera answered. "And as for getting here… you thought I was Kuzco so you stuffed me in the same sack as him. I wound up in some village and then got lost in the jungle trying to get back to the palace. I was chased by some angry jaguars that Jewels saved me from. The bridge was destroyed so we were going to start heading the long way back to the palace when the ground crumbled beneath us. We fell into alligator-infested waters and were then saved by a squirrel who told us where we could find food."
Kronk looked like he was struggling to put all of that together, but a light bulb switched on over Yzma's head. "You were in the same sack with Kuzco?"
"Yes," Meera replied.
"So then you know where he is!" Yzma said gleefully. "Take us to him."
"Umm… I'm not sure… that is I don't know where he is now?" Meera replied. "I left the village a while ago and haven't seen him… well… haven't interacted with him since…" She glanced at Juliet for help.
"He might be back at the village," Juliet suggested.
"Then lead the way," Yzma ordered looking annoyed with the delay.
"Sure," Meera agreed quickly heading off, keeping a few paces ahead of Yzma and Kronk. "What's the plan here? Do you even know the way back to the village? I don't."
"The path looks familiar since we're back on one. I'm sure it will lead to the same fork in the road where I was when I followed after Pacha's cart. The plan is to drop these two off at the house where the kids will keep them occupied for a while, find Pacha and Kuzco, and head back to the palace for the human extract," Juliet informed her. "Good plan?"
"Yeah, as long as that little punk doesn't swallow all of the extract for himself," Meera grumbled remembering the incident with the squirrel.
"We'll make sure that doesn't happen," Juliet assured her.
Juliet was correct in thinking that the path would lead to Pacha's village. Even not having been to Pacha's house she knew that it would be located at the top of the hill. The biggest house with the best view for the village leader. Yzma was quick to weasel her way inside explaining that they were somehow related to Pacha.
"Are you coming in too?" Chicha asked, not buying Yzma's explanation.
"Maybe later. Right now I should get my… llama all situated," Juliet passed off, hoping Meera wouldn't complain about being referred to as a llama. If the hoof stomp was anything to go by she did.
"There's a stable down back. I'll have the kids show you where it is," Chicha said, not trusting Juliet.
Juliet forced a fake smile, not liking that her and Meera were gonna be babysat by the kids. The kids in question didn't mind at all, eager to help show her to the stables.
"So, you're supposed to be our relative?" Tipo questioned.
"No, I'm more of a guide. Me and Meera here just helped the other two find the place," Juliet explained.
"Hope you haven't put up with that lady long. She seems like a lot," Chaca said.
"Smart kid," Juliet smiled. Having reached the stables Juliet turned to the children. "Thanks for the escort. Why don't you run back and get to know your long lost family? Yzma might be a piece of work but Kronk's great."
"Kronk's the bomb!" Meera exclaimed and then froze. "I mean… hee haw!"
Juliet let out a frustrated sigh as the kids began to freak out. "Oh my gosh! You have a talking llama?!"
"I guess," Juliet submitted. "Introduce yourself."
"Hey tiny humans," Meera greeted. "What's up?"
"That's so cool!" the little boy exclaimed.
"Are you sure you're a llama?" the little girl asked.
"Yes….No… I'm not really… it's a long story," Meera grumbled.
"Wait until we tell Mom!" Chaca squeaked.
"Wait, no!" Meera cried quickly blocking the kids' exit.
"Why not?" they asked.
"Well… adults don't think stuff like this is cool," Meera replied. "Right, Jewels?"
"Not really. You know, that Yzma of yours doesn't even like Meera. She thinks she's weird and kicked her on our way here. I just wish I could do something to get back at her. But then I wouldn't get paid," Juliet lied.
"Well, we could do something!" Tipo offered.
"Could you?" Juliet asked sweetly. "Just a little bit to mess with her."
"We're on it!" the kids exclaimed and then ran back up towards the house.
"Yzma didn't kick me," Meera said confused.
"I know that. But they don't," Juliet replied before sneakily trying to make her way back up towards the house. "Just needed them to get out of the way, preferably distracting Yzma, while we search for Kuzco and Pacha."
"Should we look for them?" Meera asked. We could just head to the palace now."
Juliet stopped where she was before turning around. "Good point. Let's go," she said.
"Great!" Meera said. She led them back to the road and paused when she saw Pacha and Kuzco flying by. "I guess we follow them. Let's go!"
The two hurried off after Pacha and Kuzco. After running for a few moments Meera noticed red lines being left behind to mark the other two's trail. She took a quick glance over her shoulder and saw the blue trail she and Juliet were leaving. She glanced at Juliet who looked just as confused as she did. They both shrugged and continued running.
Meera stormed back into the palace at the entrance of Yzma's lab, kicking off the alligator attached to her leg. "Why does she even have that lever?" she growled.
"For comic relief apparently," Juliet guessed.
"I don't think it's funny," Meera huffed.
"It kinda is," Juliet chuckled before pulling the correct lever which sent the two of them around the wall and into a rollercoaster cart. The cart went lurching forward down a looping track. Meera squealed in glee as it came to a jarring stop and they were both thrown into the air. They landed on the ground, suddenly wearing lab coats and safety goggles.
"How many of these does she have?" Meera asked peeling herself out of the coat.
"And in such specific sizes as well," Juliet noted, throwing off what she thought was a lab coat sized for Yzma.
"Let's just get to the… hey, wait!" Meera cried as she noticed Pacha and Kuzco already at the shelved potions.
"You again?!" Kuzco cried. "What are you doing here?"
"There's another talking llama?" Pacha questioned.
"Yep, and this one's mine," Juliet said.
"No wonder you said, 'her'. It makes so much more sense now," Pacha figured out.
"Wait, you know her?" Kuzco and Meera questioned.
"Yeah. She came to the village looking for a talking llama," Pacha explained. "How do you know her?"
"She's one of Kronk's cooking assistants," Kuzco answered and then turned to Meera. "Why are you a llama?"
Meera shifted uneasily on her feet. "I may have… that's irrelevant!" she finally answered. "What matters is the human extract. You're going to have to share. Back me up, Jewels."
"The less talking llamas we have around the better," Juliet agreed. "Now all we have to do is find the extract. It must be in this cabinet somewhere."
"Looking for this!" a sinister voice asked and they all spun to see Yzma holding up the vial.
"No!" Kuzco cried. "It can't be!"
"How the hell did you get back here before us?" Meera asked.
Yzma opened her mouth to reply and then froze, confusion filling her features. "How did we, Kronk?"
"Well, you got me," Kronk replied. He pulled down a map from somewhere, showing three different paths to the palace. The red and blue ones being the only paths to make it there while the purple path ended up down a cliff. "By all accounts it doesn't make sense."
"Oh well, back to business," Yzma shrugged.
"Okay, I admit it," Kuzco said. "Maybe I wasn't as nice as I should have been…"
"You think?" Meera cut in. Kuzco glared at her.
"Yzma, do you really want to kill me?" Kuzco continued as if he hadn't been interrupted.
"Dude, a squirrel wanted to kill you," Meera pointed out. "I think she means business."
"Yes, I do," Yzma agreed. "Just think of it as you're being let go. That your life's going in a different direction. That your body's part of a permanent outplacement."
"Hey, that's kind of like what he said to you when you got fired," Kronk pointed out unhelpfully.
"Yes, it's called a cruel irony. Like my dependence on you," Yzma spat.
"I'd like to point out that I have done nothing to you," Meera said. "Can I just take a sip from the vial?"
Yzma paused. "Well, I suppose…"
"I don't believe this!" Kuzco wailed distracting Yzma.
"Then I bet you weren't expecting this!" Yzma cried beginning to pull up her skirts.
Pacha and Kuzco started freaking out, horrified by seeing anything of Yzma above her knee, while the girls just rolled their eyes. The screaming stopped once it was revealed that Yzma had a dagger strapped to her thigh. Somehow that was better.
"Finish them off," Yzma ordered, tossing the dagger over to Kronk. The big sweet lug looked at the dagger, not liking what Yzma was telling him to do. The conflicted feeling turn to one of confusion for everyone around as Kronk started talking to his shoulders.
"Uh, where's the other guy? … Well, Yzma just tossed me this knife and asked me to, you know, take them out. Then this guy popped up and we waited for you, and quite honestly…" Kronk rambled.
"Kronk! Why did I think you could do this? This one simple thing. It's like I'm talking to a monkey. A really, really big stupid monkey named Kronk!" Yzma ranted.
"Hey! Don't say that about Kronk," Juliet protested.
"Yeah!" Meera agreed. "He's the best!"
"And do you want to know something else? I never liked your spinach puffs. Never!" Yzma shouted.
"Okay, that does it!" Meera growled. "Jewels, I'm sorry, but I'm going to revert for a moment. Don't watch."
"Go right ahead," Juliet said.
"Really?" Meera asked stopping in her track. "Okay!" She ran forward towards Kronk and began chewing on the rope holding up the chandelier above Yzma.
"That'll work," Kronk said catching onto what she was doing. He raised up the knife and sliced through the rope. Meera turned to see her work and froze.
"That's funny," Kronk said.
"That usually works," he and Meera went on together.
"And so does this!" Yzma hissed pulling another lever.
"Ah, should have seen that coming," Kronk sighed as the floor disappeared beneath his feet. "Whoa!"
"Kronk!" Meera cried.
Pacha took this moment of distraction to grab the vial of human extract from Yzma, starting a wrestling match with the old woman.
"Give me that vial!" Yzma shrieked running towards Pacha and knocking the vial out of his hand. Before he could get his hands on it she knocked over her cabinet. All of the potions rolled out over the floor. Juliet was quick to get down on her hands and knees, grabbing any vial she could find and stuffing it into her pocket, knowing the limited time Yzma was gifting them. That limited time turned out to be a minute before she pulled a rope, setting off an alarm for the guards.
"Better hurry. I'm expecting company. Kill them! They murdered the emperor!" Yzma ordered as the guards rushed in.
"Time to run," Juliet said, motioning to Meera to follow her as she ran out of the room, away from the approaching guards. Meera hurried after Juliet.
"Pick a vial," Meera gasped. Juliet quickly held up a vial to Meera's mouth and she gulped half of the potion down. With a burst of pink cloud, she transformed… into a black bunny. "Well, this beats llama!"
Juliet ditched the rabbit vial, throwing it an approaching guard who in turn transformed into a bunny himself. It left the guard stunned while Juliet and Meera continued running. Reaching into her pocket Juliet pulled out another vial and quickly uncorked it.
"Alright, try this one," she said, pouring a bit into Meera's mouth. Meera gulped a portion of the vial, apprehensively staring down at the guards at the bottom of the stairs, blocking their escape. A puff of pink cloud later and bunny Meera was no more. She closed her eyes and when she opened them the guards were scurrying. She was a very big bear. Pacha and a bird Kuzco relaxed when they ran up to see the guards running away. Still, the four of them continued, running towards the bridge over the canal.
"Okay, we're getting better as we go, but it's not the right vial," Meera said. "How are you two doing?" Pacha tossed Kuzco a vial who drank from it and then transformed into a whale.
"Don't say a word," Kuzco grumbled as the floor gave way beneath them and they fell into a canal.
The four let out a scream as they fell into the water. The humans and Meera grabbed onto Kuzco, knowing that the swimming mammal would get them to the surface. Juliet was out of vials, but Pacha had three more. He gave one of them to Kuzco which turned him back into a llama.
"Yay, I'm a llama again!" Kuzco cheered before pausing. "Wait." They all shrieked again as the water began to drain and they were sent spiraling out of the castle through a statue's nostril.
Meera easily gripped on the edge of the nostril, catching Juliet before she fell. "Climb onto my back," she ordered everyone. "I'll get us all to a ledge."
Pacha was the first to grab on, knowing that Juliet could climb onto his and hold out while he grabbed Kuzco and nestled him under his arm. Meera started scaling the palace, making it up onto a ledge just as the animal turned guards fell out of the nose towards the ground.
Pacha pulled out the two remaining vials and passed one to Kuzco. "One of these has to be it," he said. Kuzco grabbed the vial and was about to drink from it when Yzma appeared out of nowhere and broke the bottle.
"No!" they all cried, but when the pink smoke cleared they found themselves staring at a kitten.
Kuzco smirked and plucked the remaining, human vial from her. "I'll take that," he went to open the vial when Yzma pounced clawing at Kuzco who screeched. "Get her off me! Get her off me!" Pacha tried his best which ended up getting him knocked off the ledge. Once Kuzco managed to get cat Yzma subdued the three of them looked down at Pacha thinking of a way to help him.
"Drink the potion!" Pacha shouted, believing that it would be better to have three humans help him up compared to one human, one bear, and one llama.
"Where'd it go?" Kuzco asked.
"Looking for this?" Yzma asked in a squeaky voice. Meera, Juliet, and Kuzco paused and stared at her in shock. Yzma also looked taken aback. "Is that my voice? Is that MY voice?"
"Well it's not any of ours," Meera said.
"Oh well," Yzma shrugged holding up the vial.
"No! Don't drop it!" Kuzco cried.
"I'm not going to drop it, you fool," Yzma crowed. "I'm going to drink it! And once I turn back into my beautiful self I'm going to kill you!"
"I'm finding it hard to take you seriously with that voice," Meera commented as Yzma cackled.
"Also difficult when you have no thumbs," Juliet added seeing as cat Yzma was failing to uncork the potion. Yzma lost her footing and went flying over the edge. The potion somehow flew out of her hands and bounced off the building before landing precariously on a ledge. Kuzco and Meera scurried out after it, but Meera lost her footing on the ledge and tipped over it. She only just managed to get her nails in the building to prevent herself from falling.
She quickly scratched at the building walls and tried to heave herself up on the ledge. Juliet grabbed her by the shoulders and helped pull her up. When she was back on the ledge they saw Kuzco rushing towards Pacha who was barely hanging on. Meera and Juliet were just at the base of where the vial was hanging precariously on the edge. They glanced at each other.
"Want to give it a go?" Meera asked. "Or you could climb on my back while I climb. One of the two."
"Back to back. As a show of our friendship. Besides, this is probably the only time we could do this," Juliet decided.
"We'll be doing this our whole lives," Meera said. "Friends forever, right?"
Juliet smiled. "Always." Meera grinned and they turned away from each other before looping their arms between each of their own.
"On my right?" Meera asked.
"On your right. Now! Right! Left!" Juliet confirmed. The two began to make their way up the rift. Once they got towards the top, Meera used her larger body to leverage Juliet up, giving her the ability to grab the vial. Just as her fingers brushed it, however, Yzma reappeared and grabbed it.
"I win," Yzma smiled after laughing maniacally.
Her victory didn't last long however as a window opened, crushing her between that and the building while allowing the vial to fall into Juliet's hand.
"Got it!" Juliet celebrated.
"What are the odds of that trapdoor leading me out here?" Kronk pondered, being the one to have opened the window. He looked down and spotted Juliet. "Oh hey, Juliet. What are you doing here?"
"Oh you know, just doing some hero stuff," Juliet smiled.
"And making me human again," Meera cheered as Juliet offered her the vial, letting her drink from it first. In a burst of pink cloud, she was back to herself. "When we're human again. Human again!"
"Like a real human does, I'll be all that I was
On that glorious morn' when we're finally reborn
And we're all of us human again!" Juliet sang. "See, now this movie has a song in it."
Beside them, a portal suddenly opened up. "I guess our time here is done," Meera commented as she saw Kuzco transform back into a human as well. "Do you think we'll be together in the next movie?"
"Who knows with Disney. All we can do is hope," Juliet answered.
"I know I'm hoping I'm not an animal again," Meera said.
"Are there many movies left where that's a possibility?" Juliet wondered.
Meera paled. "Lilo and Stitch!" she gasped. "What if I'm an alien?"
"Then we'll deal with it when we get there. Together," Juliet said, reaching out her hand for Meera. Meera beamed and grabbed her hand. They walked through the portal together.
Juliet: I'm so happy we got things sorted out.
Meera: Me too. I'm also happy I'm not a llama anymore.
Juliet: Speaking of that a thought just occurred to me. Why didn't you wish yourself human?
Meera: (avoiding eye contact) We're not supposed to wish for things.
Juliet: While that's true and I'm glad you're learning to behave yourself, it would have made things a bit easier.
Meera: Well, I was trying not to make you mad at me!
Juliet: Even after our heart to heart in the diner?
Meera: No. I just wasn't thinking about it then.
Juliet: Well, at least it worked out alright for us in the end.
Meera: True! I hope we're together in the next adventure.
Juliet: Well we better let them move along to find out. If you liked this adventure though be sure to leave us a review.
Meera: Thanks for reading. We hope you enjoyed the story!
