"Alison, you need to take a deep breath," Sarah told her as Alison threw back her pills and swallowed them with a gulp of wine, praying that the effects would kick in quickly.

Flashes of memories burned through her mind at Sarah's words, reminding her of all the times that her and Beth would do different work outs to stay in shape. As a cop, Beth needed to stay physically fit at all times, but she lacked the motivation to actually work out. So together, the two of them began jogging in the morning and biking in the afternoon.

It was Beth that had first introduced the idea of yoga to Alison, saying that it was good not just for the body, but for the mind and the soul as well. So Alison had agreed to try it with her, simply because Beth just seemed so eager and excited. And anything that made Beth smile, anything that took her mind off of her relationship with Paul and the stresses of her work, was worth trying in Alison's eyes.

What Beth didn't realize that it wasn't actually the yoga that was helping to 'cleanse her mind and soul', it was Beth's very presence that caused Alison to feel lighter than air after their hour together. That it was her laugh that lifted her spirits and that her smile released the tension from her body more than any stretching could ever hope to accomplish.

Then, she walked out of Alison's life. Without an apparent second thought for who she would be leaving behind. Or what she would be giving up. Their love. What they had together. Alison thought it was something out of a fairytale, something that pain and sorrow couldn't touch.

But reality set in and tore her fantastical dreams right out of her hands the moment Sarah walked into her life. At that moment, she was the devil. And with her hood up and in all black, she was certainly dressed to play the part. She could've killed her right then and there but her hidden grief, with its black tendrils worming their way into her heart, choked out any desire for revenge. So she left and, when she got home, she mourned Beth's suicide in darkness.

The next morning, after Donnie had left for work, Alison tried to go for a run. But as she ran, she saw Beth everywhere. In the red and orange of the fall leaves that Beth loved so much, in the bridge overlooking the bay that they always stopped at as their halfway point. In the way that she saw other couples holding hands as she jogged past them.

Eventually she gave up, went home and tried to cool down with a few of Beth's favourite yoga poses. She broke down after the second pose however as she felt herself wobbling on one leg. It was the pose she always had trouble with; but Beth would always be right behind her, ready to wrap her in her strong, warm and secure arms to help her balance.

And so when Sarah told her to "Take a deep breath," all she could hear was Beth's voice, her warm breath flooding her ear as her hands held her steady at the waist. It took all of her inner strength not to slap Sarah right then and there for bringing back everything all at once, even if she didn't mean to do it intentionally.

Instead of lashing out physically, she just shot Sarah a dangerous look and replied sharply, "I hate yoga." And with that, Alison went upstairs, intent on finding all the wine in her storage so she could drown out the memories and the pain that went along with them.
