Chapter 19
SOMEWHERE AT THE OTHER DIMENSION
"Oodako? Are you here? I'm finally dead now!" Skull yelled out despondently, looking around the thick smoke.
"Shut it lackey!" growled Reborn as he waved the smoke with his fedora, "We are not dead yet!"
"Ok sempai." At this subdued response, Reborn felt an unnatural rage and unfortunately it was going to be directed at Skull. Well it would have if Colonnello hadn't tried to calm him since Fon looked too lost to play peacekeeper at the moment.
Fortunately for Skull, Reborn no longer wield his signature weapon and the rifle that Colonnello gave him had no longer has bullets. So plan b: Hit the lackey with the butt of the rifle once Colonnello stops trying to distract him with a competition.
"Shoichi-san?" Fon asked unenthusiastically. The other Arcobaleno turned to the red haired glasses wearing boy in slight surprised.
"Hello Fon," Shoichi dipped his head. By then the Arcobaleno put away their grief of losing their partners and the awkwardness in getting use to their original bodies.
"You look different," Reborn stated. Sure enough Shoichi may look exhausted, but he wasn't bending over in pain. Instead he had a maniac gleam in his eyes.
"You can say this is my true self," Shoichi smirked. His glasses reflected a strange light, hiding his eyes, "Just so you know, you are lucky to be alive with the earlier thickness of mist flames and all."
"Interesting, you must have stopped one of the most if not the most powerful being's attack like nothing. Am I correct?" Verde asked while cleaning his glasses from any debris. Shoichi just shrugged.
"It was almost as amazing with the fact you able to defeat those monster beings at all in your disillusioned state," Shoichi pointed at the defeated zombie-like beings around them.
"Huh, they look nasty," Skull commented in a monotone voice. Reborn hit him again with the rifle, but Skull just let him push him to the ground and didn't make an effort to get up again.
"If we been kept under a deep illusion, that would mean you know the most direct path to that Man in the Iron Hat or Checkerface as he wished to be known as," Verde commented.
"Sure," Shoichi shrugged before smirking at them, "Just so you know, you made it easier for me to catch up with you been walking in circles."
"Figures, kora," Colonnello muttered getting back to his old word tic in annoyance.
Shoichi narrowed his eyes and looked around before standing in front of him. The freed Arcobaleno stared in different levels of curiosity of what is he going to do.
Lifting his arms Shoichi took a breath in. He holds it for a couple a seconds before breathing out while he slowly put his arms down.
To the Arcobaleno's surprise, the swirling colored dimension brightens for a minute before turning everything dark. Well it shifted to a dark backdrop, since they can still see each other and the path looked duller than usual. The waving imagery around the straight path was surrounded by a deeper darkness that made even Reborn's hair stand up. They saw the afterimage of the previous path, but it was in a large circle above them.
"Well now that's out of the way," Shoichi shakily fiddles with his glasses.
"Fascinating," Verde turns to Shoichi, "What is this ability? You must have some control of it to be able to not only block such an potent attack earlier, but as well as somehow disrupt the illusions."
"You can say I have a cancelling ability," Shoichi comments, but turns pale, "unfortunately… I… can't… use it…. often." Shoichi falls on his knees.
Reborn quickly checked for his flames and feels a flicker of them. Nodding to himself he walks toward Shoichi.
"It's not going….to work…." Shoichi gasps out and weakly sits down.
His hands shook as he looked over a bag he was carrying and took out his medication box. He looked for his medicine pill box for his version of flame supplement pill that was next to the seal repellant one he had taken earlier. He dry swallowed two capsules and closes his eyes. Shoichi focused on sealing his powers again.
Suddenly the Arcobaleno felt a smothering feeling that they barely noticed disappear.
"What was that, kora?!" Colonnello jumps back. He suddenly feels energized again. The other former Arcobaleno stood up and stretched easily.
Shoichi grinned, before grimacing and clutching his stomach, "Agh! Stupid side effects!"
Slowly and gingerly, Shoichi straighten up, pale faced, "It takes a nasty toll to my body that if it wasn't for my strong sun flames, I will be decomposing myself to the black flames ability that unfortunately never turns off. Let's just say in order for the seal to work I have to release a lot of Sun flames." Reborn narrows his eyes in suspicion.
"Black flames, huh?" Verde looked very eager that Shoichi nervously laughed, no longer looking confident as he did earlier. He quickly looks around his bag for a distraction. He sighs in relief when he spots something in his bag.
"Well I have back up communicators," Shoichi takes out a touchscreen pad from his bag and unlocked it by sliding his fingers across the screen. He put in some coordinates and coding to bypass the strange energy around the dimension they reside in trying to communicate back at base.
They walked toward the former Vongola guardians' signal that he was able to find as they waited to get a response at base. After a couple of minutes, Shoichi was able to connect to Gesso M2C (Marshmallow Command Center).
"SHZZZ—Hello, you have reached the Spanner Lollipop voicemail—" There was static on the view screen as the voice spoke through the communication device.
"Shut up Spanner! Oy! What took you to respond?!" Then the image of a pale Kikyo showed up almost stomping the keyboard to show the image on his side.
Shoichi took a deep breath and answered Kikyo's question, "There were heavy mist flames distorting reality and sense of direction to the Rescue Team and their Back up. Unfortunately before I made contact, the main Rescue team has been separated with the Arcobaleno and—"
"Wh-who are they?!" Giannini noticed the older former Arcobaleno.
"The curse broke, moving on. Have any of the teams contacted you?" Reborn cut off any questions by asking his own.
"You too?" Kikyo rubbed his faced tiredly and glanced off screen.
"Did something happen?" Shoichi frowned in worry.
"I feel sane?" Kikyo frowns before going on, "I think it's the word, but Ghostie is in a bad way and it's in Intensive Care," Kikyo sighed.
"It's he becoming stabilized?" Verde asked. Kikyo glared at him for a second and sighed again.
"What makes you say that?" Everyone can tell it almost killed Kikyo to ask the very person who had experiment with Ghostie many years ago. His sharp question says it all. Shoichi only prays Verde won't try to antagonize them with his technicalities and emotionless on the subject.
"Mare is sea, and it means unpredictability. From what I seen with the boy," At this Shoichi mentally groans, but is happy as Kikyo hold his tongue. Good thing Zakura isn't there.
"—DNA structure while it's unstable, his body had the means to get use to the unnaturalness. Now that you say, you're sane, by what I had seen and felt what happened to us, affected you and the rest of the Gesso main guardians as well."
"That's right, I heard you all passed out and your vitals went high wired an hour ago," Spanner put in. Kikyo glared at him annoyed.
"Well then how is the Varia doing?" Fon asked. He was worried how Viper is doing with the Arcobaleno curse now broken. He hoped she wasn't in any trouble, but since he only able to recover fast because of Shoichi, his hopes are getting lower.
"Nothing," Kikyo shook his head, "I had reports the Vongola Mansion being attacked, but something blocking the signals. So we send if Lal and anyone who is free to check on them. At least to protect Nono."
"Err, guys…" Giannini tried to interrupt, but everyone is too busy with their own worries.
"Well better than nothing," sighs Fon.
"EEEK! Someone just appeared suddenly at the working RSHP!" Giannini screeched as he saw something just appear out of nowhere at the base.
"The what?" Colonnello asked.
"The Return Sky Home Portal." Spanner explains and goes over to clear the image on their surveillance cameras.
"Wait…the return trip wasn't done yet?!" Colonnello yelled. Reborn glares at his rival's yells next to his ear.
"Mm, I don't mind staying this place," Skull deadpanned, "Oodako resting place is here…"
"Is he ok?" Kikyo blinked at the dead tone of Skull.
"Hello! We may have invaders! I, for one, don't want this place overrun with enemies like with the Bovinos!" Giannini puts in as Spanner goes back to his computer and puts in the necessary information.
"Way ahead of you Giannini," Spanner mutters as he furiously types something. Then he froze staring some screen. He slowly put down his hand with the lollipop.
"Spanner," Shoichi whined as he bended in stomach pain, "This is the second time this month you don't have your lollipop in your mouth. And that is not very comforting at all compared with what happened last time."
"The Vindice are here."
Everyone froze and mentally cursed.
VONGOLA MANSION, ITALY
The unknown famiglia took out their guns. The guns were sleek and shiny, and never been shot with before. Mammon was wary for some reason.
"Be useful and fight these low lives brat!" Fran turned to see his master on the ground heaving hard as if she used a lot of Mist flames in a long battle. He frowned. Master wasn't doing anything, wonder if it's something to do with Fantasma-sama getting sick?
He turned to the enemy, they looked a little scary, but nothing like the Varia had to face in their missions, "Lame, what are you going to do make? Fromage suisse de Fran?"
Suddenly there were many guns going off. Normally that wouldn't faze Fran or Mammon, but the Mafioso men just shot each other and not the two Varia mist guardians. All the men dropped dead.
"I'm like right in front of you and you miss, that's just pathetic, you know," Fran commented he leaned to poke them while Mammon felt something was off.
"Brat, don't touch a dead body with your finger," Mammon reprimanded.
In response Fran turned to her and let his mist flames push the shot Mafioso. Mammon groans before freezing. She feels a familiar spark, but something isn't right.
"Ew, his flames are weird," Fran abruptly cut his flames off from the supposed dead Mafioso stirred awake by going into some kind of seizure. Before the two mist guardians did anything, all the Mafioso men exploded and become insane Dying Will maniacs and rushed at Fran.
"KILL THE BRAT WITH AS OUR LAST WILL!"
"You saying it wrong," Fran commented as he ducked their attacks. The mist flames shifted and his Varia uniform turned into bullfighter outfit with the red cape on hand.
"Ole," Fran deadpanned. This only antagonizes more the half clothed Mafioso's. The fireball attacks began.
"Master, I guess the training of ducking the fake prince was worth it," Fran commented as he ducked the fireballs, but it's a matter of time before the young boy gets caught.
"What are you talking about? You always get stabbed! Just keep fighting; you still had not paid off your student debt yet."
"That case, I better get burned then," he turned to the enemy who keep missing their attacks, "Oy! Learn to hit right!"
One of the minions smirked and shot a tricky shot of corrupted storm flames. Mammon saw they were only been trying to lower their guards and now they are in for the kill. Quickly Mammon stared at her weak green frog and split second silent conversation was spoken between them. Fantasma nods and transforms into a salamander via biting its tail. Fantasma abruptly teleports and practically tackles Fran down once Mammon's partner shots out of its teleport portal above the boy.
Fortunately all the fireballs sailed over them.
"Fantasma-sama, you're my hero again," Fran almost smiled that time at the salamander of his master. He always likes feeding the creature bugs or its company whenever Mammon was in stuffy meeting watching cartoons for research. He glances at his Master and tilts his head.
"Fantasma go back to master, she's getting visible again," he cups the creature who does a hiccup and teleports to Mammon, almost tackling her too.
"Ugh! Either that brat feed you a really bad bug or I'm getting weaker," Mammon complains. She stares down at her pacifier locked within her Mammon Chains to hide its power from other Arcobalenos. I guess I have to rely on that power and the ring. Mammon takes out a small box within her cloak and sighs.
Fran changes back into his uniform, but with a giant red letter "V" on his front and posed, "Prepare for trouble—" he makes a copy of himself who continued.
"—Make it double—!" Mammon face palm at this. She left a mental note on killing a certain pineapple idiot teacher for the boy's shenanigans. She doesn't know how, but it could be the idiot's minion's fault or the idiot himself.
"—fear the fearsome Fran, that's right," finished Fran. The other Fran gives a thumb down at the original one. Fran tilts his head and was about to protest when Mammon snaps from her invisible spot. Fortunately she cloaked it that only Fran can hear it.
Mammon thought of possible punishment for her student for his antics, while Fantasma just smiled knowingly. In the meantime, the boy let loose horrible creatures that makes the boogieman a stuff teddy bear of cuteness.
Not able to fight much in her condition, Mammon stared to decipher the famiglia insignia on their ripped uniform. Once she able to puzzle it together, she cursed. They were from the Pesca famiglia.
Rumors has it that so far they were the ones who came close in breaking the code to make Dying Will Bullets that so far, only Vongola had plans of.
Fran tilted his head and tried to sense any Varia officers. They seemed as if they were walking slowly.
"The loud Sharkie and fake prince are sure taking their precious time," Fran comments to Mammon over the Pesca famiglia made headway to Fran. It seemed their fear diminished while their brutally increased, not even fazed by Fran's attacks.
Mammon saw her student starting to lose ground as the enemy began surrounding him already disintegrating his clone. She looks at Fantasma as she sat on the floor surrounded by mist flames, concealing her.
"Hey brat!" Mammon snapped, but froze when her mist flames flickered. Unfortunately it was enough for the enemy family know where she's hiding. So they changed targets and began to attack her near the last area she appeared. Normally she would float away or teleport, but her flames are starting to go out of control again. So she has to rely on her student to buy time until she can stabilize and take the illusions again that were confusing the other Varia guardians.
Mammon decides to take a risk without a second thought and threw Fran the cursed Hell ring.
Fran turns and blinks down at the ring that bounced off his forehead to the floor, "Master? Are you trying to channel the Fake prince? Because how is a ring killing anyone?"
"Wear it, you idiot!" Fran nonchalantly put it on. She braces herself for the incoming explosion of power as the Pesca famiglia switched targets to her student.
"Nothing happen, Master," Before Mammon wonder if the ring was fake, she stared when the Pesca assassins collided an invisible shield bubble that turned deactivated the crazy forced Dying Will-fied Pesca. They went unconscious.
"Never mind, I have a cool shiny shield," Fran commented as he stared blankly at the crashing Pesca like a fly crashing into the electric bug zapper.
Taking advantage at their distraction, Mammon tried to focuses her resolve and went in deep into her psyche to figure out what is wrong. She took off the chains of her pacifier and released Mist flames to cancel any confusion illusions or attacks near her fellow Varia officers. She sensed Lal coming in barely saving Nono almost getting killed by a sniper on his way out, Talbot talking to her boss...she hopes her boss can kill him.
Shaking her head and feeling the temporary adrenaline rush, she sent a mental message to Fran of a plan of attack.
In response Fran asks in monotone, "Seriously? Whatever you say Master Viper."
He ignored her threats by preparing the mist flames necessary for her plan. Although he couldn't resist the temptation to teleport silently and flamelessly across the hallway. He had left an illusionary Fran inside the orb shield to not get caught he already left their line of attack.
"Show off," Mammon huffed before letting out Mist flames and guided Fran's flames.
Squalo and Bel were ducking from the Vongola guards that they know for sure never seen before today and keep crashing into invisible walls.
"VOI! MOVE ASIDE YOU STUPID SCUM! I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DEAL WITH YOUR SHI–!" Squalo is irritated and his left stump, which now is his sword, throbs, but he trusts his boss will be alright. Although when that blind elder is involved...well he better fulfill his boss' orders to return to him again.
"Ushishishi, looks like the path clear up again," Bel pointed out. He recognizes now the hallway. When he looked back to Squalo, he laughs again at his confused look.
"Cat got you tongue, Sharkie?"
"VOI! THE ENEMY ARE RETREATING, LETS MOVE BEFORE THOSE TWO WEAKLINGS GET THEMSELVES KILLED! THE PAPERWORK FOR THAT ISN'T WORTH THE EXTRA TIME TO FILL OUT!"
Bel laughs again and smirks when he sees Fran up ahead.
"Ushishishi, the prince has arrived!" Bel shouts from across the hallway. The damage on that part of the mansion looks just as bad the last time the Varia attacked said mansion.
"Hurray," Fran deadpanned and knives were thrown at him, "ow, that really hur–"
The surviving Dying Will army somehow figured out where the real Fran went and jumped at him.
"Aww, too late," moaned Bel as he saw the little illusionist-in-training getting buried alive by the enemy.
Suddenly Bel felt a presence appear out of nowhere next to him. Bel jumps back and throws move knives. It was Fran staring casually at a ring. The knives were bouncing off a couple of inches from where Fran was.
Squalo ignore the two younger Varia guardians as he frowned at the remaining enemy's attacks confident looks, but pathetic aim. They seem too eager destroying the wall that was furthest to where everyone stood.
He looks questioning at Mammon, still able to pinpoint where she hid within her mist flame, "VOI! BOSS SAID YOU GUYS NEEDED HELP! BUT I SEE INSTEAD YOU DOING NOTHING AND THOSE SCUMS BEING MORE DANGER TO THEMSELVES THAN LEVI WITH HIS PARABOLA. I CAN BE HELPING BOSS AS WE SPEAK!"
"Ushishishi! Poor Sharkie. Want me to whistle again to make you feel better?" Bel laughed as he casually threw a couple of knives, setting up strings tied at the edges to trip the Pesca Mafioso.
"Shut up! It's hard enough for us to work as it is with your yelling!" Mammon snapped while Fran was uncharacteristically silent. He had a very concentrated look and his arms moving around.
"K-ching? You're doing nothing baby," Bel comments, but then noticed how the Mafioso looked confused when they trip over his strings that he makes them visible with his storm flames, "K-ching! I know for sure they're pathetic, but fireballs missing by a mile, aren't right. And are they blind or something?"
Then they were further confused when the Varia Rain and Storm guardians watch what the surviving Mafioso cried out, "Take that Mist flamers! You are now dead thanks to the Pesca and the frog dead too!" Everyone was staring at the broken wall that shows outside the mansion.
"...the he**?" Squalo's eye twitched.
"Finish them off you fools!" Squalo growled at being ordered by his baby Varia officer, but proceeded to cut down the remaining. Once he finished the quick massacre, Squalo realized something.
"SO THAT IS WHAT YOU DID! YOU MESS WITH THEIR SENSES, BUT NOT OURS!" then Squalo glared at Mammon, "VOI! AT LEAST GIVE US A HEADS UP!"
Bel laughed at the red faced second in command of Varia. He turned to Fran, who blinked confused.
"Huh? The demon weird ring is trying to suck my flames, Master Viper," Fran comments casually. When he heard no response or threats from Mammon, he looks up to his Mammon.
Fran noticed Mammon acting strange, "Master what's wrong?"
Everyone stared at Mammon staring at something on her empty hands in shock (as far as they can tell by her hood). Fran walks to his master and realize he couldn't feel Fantasma's presence.
"Master, where is Fantasma-sama?" Mammon looks up to Fran and her hood threatens to fall back as she shook.
"...guess you're now officially the new main Varia mist guardian," Mammon whispered to Fran.
Fran stares at her blankly and tilts his head, "Are you going to die Master?"
"VOOIII! DID YOU EXHAUST YOURSELF MAMMON–?!" They jumped back when her pacifier glow even through the Mammon chains, which consists of strong illusions to hide any hints of glowing.
Squalo's eyes widen just a split second before the Mist flames exploded and grab the two younger Varia members in his arms. Then whatever was left of the hallway was destroyed and all the present Varia were thrown back.
After a couple of minutes, everyone caught their bearings.
Fran asked with a hint of worry in his monotone from Squalo's arms, "Master Viper?"
A groan answered. Bel rushed over through the smoke and creaking floorboards. He stared something through the smoke and turned to Squalo with a strained smirk, "Ushishishi, I see someone hit puberty and their growth spurt."
Squalo's eye twitched when the smoke cleared to show familiar-no-longer-baby hooded adult made no response as she lost consciousness just near the hole into the lower floor of the hallway.
"Yes!" Levi cheered.
"Stop sending Selfies with boss to the internet and keep fighting, Levi-chan," Lussuria reprimands.
"Whatever you say peacock hair! I'm going to get boss notice my competence in a minute!"
Lussuria rolled his eyes and fought with the zombie-like beings. He was about to finish him off when suddenly the being crumpled to the ground before going into a strange seizure. Lussuria tsked annoyed when he saw faint traces of lightning flames around the body.
"You call your strike trio, didn't you?" Lussuria deadpanned.
"Jealous?"
"As if," huffed Lussuria and activated his destructive sun flames, "They are a fashion disaster."
"Well they get the job done, see?" Levi pointed out at the down Mafioso around them.
"It's a good thing too boss," Uno from Varia Lightening Strike Squad (Varia LSS) commented next to his boss, Levi.
"We had to take their guns from them," Due, the other member from Varia LSS went on and carried a large black bag.
"They were from the Pesca and what we saw on our way here, they would have shot themselves and went into dying will," Tre, the last present Varia LSS finished.
"What?!" Lussuria gasped dramatically, but his surprised was drowned by Xanxus low growl. The Varia officers turned in preparation to defend their boss.
"Why do you have that?" Everyone stared at Talbot smiling serenely showing off the box that hold the Vongola rings.
"Little one do calm that rage," chided Talbot, "I remember seeing you interact with that boy. How it reminds me so much of little Giotto and Ricardo, shame for the abrupt disappearance of the former just like now, no?"
"I bet you have something to do with Tsunayoshi's kidnapping!" Xanxus accused, but didn't attack. Last time it cost him to become frozen. He knows he was too brash when he was younger, so he tries to calm down. But it's so hard to not kill that mother fu—
"Surprisingly no, I am not that obvious to do it on Vongola grounds, it's just not right for the Famiglia get that kind of attention, but now it kind of too late for that. Just as your brothers choose their paths, so will that little boy," Talbot fiddles with his cloak.
"Were you somehow involved in my brothers' deaths?" Xanxus scars darken as he waited for Talbot's response.
Through the conversation, the Varia officers waits for their boss to give his signal to attack. After all the elderly man is still Vongola Elder and only when Xanxus give them permission can they attack without suffering repercussions.
"Like I said, they choose their paths, so they faced the consequences," Talbot shrugs and closes the box.
Xanxus snarled and took a step, guns blazing for release. Then a Mist flamed monocle insignia cloak man appeared between them.
"Oh I was on my way for my nap, Talbot," then the other Vongola Elder glanced at Xanxus, "Well I guess that explains Miss Viper's presence."
"Lord Daemon the third," grunted Xanxus in greeting, but his scars were still dark over his face.
"Truly marvelous, the one person who remembers my full title is from the most impatient one of all," the Mist user Elder sighs.
"There was a time I agreed with your ways," Xanxus sat down on his throne that Levi pushed behind Xanxus. They decidedly now to ignore Talbot.
"Which is why I forgiven your little stunt on attacking the Ninth," nodded the Daemon Elder. Xanxus scoffed. So he lost some self-control when his father didn't even let him explain himself when he tried to get hold of the Vongola rings to destroy them. Xanxus didn't want that old fool get hold of an idiot that could wield them and steal its power, so he had to do something.
His father told him before freezing him that even though they were not of blood, he still loves him. Idiot old man, Xanxus already knew he was adopted, he wasn't blind…his brothers already told him and explain it before they died. Unfortunately since he decided to steal the rings first without proof of Talbot's treachery, he fell into Talbot's trap.
"Just so you realize you old wizened scum," Xanxus relaxed on his throne chair and decided to speak calmly and not make the mistake again.
His scars began to fade as he went on, "Unlike my brothers, the little brat isn't alone anymore. He is a complete sky now, if not more," he smirked when Talbot's face harden. Xanxus crossed his legs and like a boss looked down at Talbot before glancing to the side.
"Rather late to the killing, Rain trash?" Xanxus looked at the hallway He raised an eyebrow at Lal, silently questioning her why Nono and his guardians are behind her.
Lal only nodded in cold reverence to the elders and turned to Xanxus, "Thank you Xanxus and Talbot for watching the rings, I feared they were lost to that impostor."
"What are you doing here old man?" Xanxus growled.
"Will you believe it? It seems something interfered with my intuition and if it wasn't for Miss Mirch, I would have gotten lost," Nono chuckles.
"Well protocol states if I found an heir for Vongola, I should inform at least 2 of the 3 Vongola Elders officially and in person. The written paperwork will be send to you in a couple of days."
"Really," Nono turned to Lal and asked intrigued, "Is this heir willing?"
"OF COURSE, THE BRAT TOLD US!" someone yelled from Lal's communicator.
"The prince heard his little highness knows it is his destiny and right to be the next in line to the throne, ushishishi," Bel interrupted. A hit and a mumble from someone were heard.
Nono looked over to Xanxus in question who grunted to his father, "The little brat did survive after all."
Nono sighed in relief, realizing the rumors of his honorary grandson's survival.
Talbot interrupted, while subtly tighten his hold on the Vongola box that holds the rings, "Ah, Nono, I believe it's best to give it to the rings later, since you remember with the last heir and all, a foolish boy and power are very dangerous to leave lying around. What if a thief came and took it from such inexperience guardians."
"You are correct in that regard," Nono caught Xanxus wary and furious look at Talbot as he spoke casually, "then please give it to Lal as the present Boss of CEDEF."
Nono walks to Talbot and takes the box of rings and gave the box to Lal.
Talbot hummed in agreement at Nono's words, but they could tell he isn't happy, "Remember Miss Mirch, until the children are ready, not before," Talbot lightly tap his walking staff and frowned, "Well best for me to keep an eye on my sheep before some wolf attacks them."
Xanxus glared and Lal muttered, "Those wolves better destroy those sheep."
It was only after Talbot and Daemon the Third left, did the rest of the Varia showed up and proceeded to blankly stare at the arrived Varia.
"My, Squalo, who is that? She looks like our baby Mist guardian," Lussuria looked confused.
Squalo was carrying a young man or woman who wore a cloak that was eerily similar as the Varia Mist main guardian. Bel was smirking widely while Fran looked dizzy with a ring tied with a string around his neck.
"VOI! SOMETHING HAPPEN TO THE BABY TO TURN OUT LIKE THIS!" Squalo shouted. Nono and Lal stared, suspecting, but not sure if the carried person was who they think it is.
Squinting, Lussuria took off his sunglasses and clean it with his shirt before putting them on again. Xanxus just stared where Talbot left, still furious about him.
"Yeah, I want higher pay to make up for a life-changing event!" Mammon snapped from under Squalo's arms as she tried to escape, but she still isn't use to her new (original) body.
Lussuria gasped loudly. Mammon barely convinced Squalo to let her go. Her legs hobbled under her robe and was walking a little when Lussuria gasped loudly, "What? Mammon-chan is pregnant?!"
Mammon landed on her butt and gapped silently at Lussuria.
"Oh, wow Master Viper I didn't know. Congratulations," Fran clapped, "Will you want a baby shower? I can ask Chrome-nee-san to prepare—"
A knife and a couple wispy snakes were thrown his way. Mammon had snatched one of Bel's twirling knives from his finger and used weak mist flames at Fran.
"SHUT IT!" hissed Mammon. She tried to stand up, but her legs couldn't withstand her weight.
Squalo growled loudly as he decided to carry Mammon like a bag of potatoes over his shoulder with all her falling.
"Put me down, dang it! Or you will be charged for manhandling me without my permission!" Mammon tried to yelled, but only a loud whisper was coming out.
"YOU BARELY CAN YELL, LET ALONE WALK! SO NO!" Squalo crouched down and a flying wine glass crashed the wall next to Squalo and Mammon.
Lal only gap wondering what this imply with the Arcobaleno no longer in the cursed baby form. Could it be Colonnello...?
"Ushishishi," Bel laughed, "found you, Boss!" This snapped Fran from looking out of it.
"Da-da-tum, the evil people retreat to fight for another day. What day, who knows?" Fran commented in a monotone voice.
"Ushishi, who are you talking to you dumb frog?" Bel smirked, but looked a little disturbed.
"No one for your faker to worry about," Fran shrugged and let the throwing knives show begin.
Lussuria decided to report in with a contemplative Lal and it only took a minute to open up a channel to update their status to Gesso Marshmallow command center.
"Mou? What happened to you guys? Did the camera freeze?" Lussuria asked as everyone in Gesso base froze and notice another window with unmoving familiar adults.
Lal gasped when she saw the second window. It was the other dimension window, more specifically, where the other former Arcobaleno are communicating with.
"Colonnello?" she whispered. So it is true, the curse broke!
She saw how Colonnello seemed to be in shock as well as the rest of the people in base and Arcobaleno for some reason, "K-kora?!" Colonnello snapped out of his shock from something, "Oh Lal, you'll never guess what happened?"
"The curse broke—" Reborn rolled his eyes and began to speak, but was interrupted by a frustrated Mammon.
"Hey I will give you a discount if you tell me where in the he** did Fantasma go!" Mammon, by sheer will, stomp to the communicator on her own.
Squalo rolled his eyes, but felt a slight worry as well. The partner of the main Mist guardian was very useful and very tied to the guardian as well. Mammon isn't very useful without Fantasma. And no, he isn't worried about the little critter that tends to teleport them whenever they are in a tight spot and the best Varia quality with his shifting ability.
Colonnello cheerful face turned blank. Lal became worried and didn't help that annoying serenely Fon looked sad. She saw Fon open his mouth to try to answer, but it was Skull's mournful lament that answered them.
"Oodako is gone forever….I wish I was still the immortal Cloud Arcobaleno if it meant to lose my best coolest partner…" Everyone in exception of the dark looks of the former Arcobaleno, looked everywhere except the Arcobaleno.
Mammon slumped on Squalo's side and was quiet.
"Lose? Fantasma-sama's gone like forever?" Fran whispered.
Abruptly, Xanxus stands up from his throne chair and picks up both his mist guardians. He puts unresponsive Mammon over his shoulder and Fran under his other arm.
"We're going back trashes," he yells without turning and began to leave the mansion.
Lussuria walks next to Xanxus and pets Mammon who didn't protest. Levi quietly puts away the throne chair and nods to his squad as sign that they're relieved from their duties until further notice. Bel looks a little lost as he followed the rest of the Varia.
"Sheesh, they're leaving while the rest of us is doing clean up duties for these bodies," half-heartily grumbled Lal.
She will miss Falco and might take a while to get over the loss, but knows Colonnello loved his partner like a brother. It doesn't help they just recently lost their CEDEF boss and their Arcobaleno boss still kidnapped.
Nono only watched them leave with regret in his eyes. It's always hard to lose someone close and knows Xanxus will feel just as bad as the two mist guardians for the loss of their teammate. The burden of a boss.
Unfortunately he cannot help, but get the feeling somehow it's just the beginning.
SOMEWHERE AROUND THE TRI-NI-SETTE SKY (BROKEN) BARRIER, ANOTHER DIMENSION
"I always hated you, you know," Reynardo commented as he stared at Tsuna's outstretched hand, "So ignorant of the world, how it can be cruel…yet at the same time I wouldn't wish it for you.
But how?! Why you?! I never met you and you just here because Mami told you!" He screamed at Tsuna. Angry at the unchanging look of acceptance of Tsuna.
"You don't have to be bound by her oath to protect me anymore! I make my own choices!"
"I didn't even remember Mami-chan when I decided to help you," Tsuna explained, "maybe subconsciously I do, but it's like we are bounded by fate and I am sorry," Tsuna showed no pity, no reluctance, only wanting him to be happy and…free.
"What?" Reynardo was taken back by the boy's sincerity.
"I noticed it with Byakuran and Yuni-chan," Tsuna glances over the unconscious forms of his fellow sky flame wielders, "I felt a connection with them years ago, but now that they no longer cursed with me, I feel…empty."
"Juudaime!" Tsuna looks around for the strange echoing faint shout, wondering if he heard Hayato's voice, but he saw no one. He turned to Reynardo again. He isn't sure how to get Reynardo to understand, but he will try his best.
"Now, it's just worse," Tsuna gripped his chest, "maybe I am subconsciously pulling you in as well," Tsuna turns wide eyed as he thought, What if I also dragged them as well, forcing the bond between us because of my sky flames nature of calling its weathers?!
"Tch! I know that isn't it," Reynardo looks away sitting up, he twitched a little before looking back to Tsuna, "Personally I seen those two," signaling Yuni and Byakuran. Tsuna looks at Reynardo confused.
"They're idiots," At this Tsuna tried to protest, but Reynardo raised his shaking hand to silence him, "I've known you'll came…back…I knew it was a matter of time…everyone…who wants to use you…to manipulate you."
Tsuna frowned and worried by the paling face of Reynardo, "Rey-Rey…?"
"I know what is to lose your right to choose. You needed someone to watch over you. Someone who wouldn't influence you to go their way…I offered to send Reborn," Reynardo looks up as he tries to catch his breath, "He listens to no one and although that baby is crazy, you can trust him to let you decide...for yourself in the end."
Tsuna stares in shock at the boy's words, wondering if everything he done was force upon him to do. Oh Rey-Rey…
"But in the end, you decided to be Decimo…I grew afraid…you're playing a dangerous game with players…beyond our power and time," growled Reynardo.
"You mean that guy in the mask and his underling?" Tsuna asked. Reynardo froze and bowed his head with his shoulders shaking.
"Oh wonder what he would say to that," Reynardo chuckled. Tsuna gives a small smile to see the true Rey-Rey.
Then Reynardo sobers up, "Back to the point, it's not those two you should be worried about. They are actually the lesser evils in a sense. It's one of Vongola's three Elders you should worry about. Then again all three are just as manipulative," shrugged Reynardo.
"You know a lot of stuff," Tsuna smiled. Reynardo blushed at the compliment before coughing.
"Well someone had…to keep Vongola afloat…since I ruined things for you…and had to disappear."
"I think it was for the best," Tsuna patted Reynardo hand, surprising him, "I got to meet my guardians and even you," Tsuna grinned, "I bet you actually tried to protect them from the Elders, right?"
"Stupid Vongola…Intuition," Tsuna grinned at Reynardo complaints. His hand felt tingled from where Tsuna patted at. He tried not to think too much of it.
"So how do we leave?" Tsuna looked around, "Or for that matter, do you know if Byakuran and Yuni-chan will be alright?"
"You do remember…I tried to kill you…many times before, right?" Reynardo asked as he lay down on his back to catch his breath.
"Yep, but I know you are really stronger than that and not to mention I'm still inexperience in fighting, so you had many opportunities to kill me," retorted Tsuna, "So don't change the subject!"
"Yeah, yeah," Reynardo began to sleep, "they'll live, but…Wonomichi…better hurry…up…you need to…escape before…"
"Before what?" Tsuna asked, getting very worried for Reynardo.
"Before I'm here to finalize the seal," a voice behind them in control rage answered. Reynardo cursed and quickly pushed Tsuna behind him putting himself between the sky user and Checkerface.
"Who is that?" Hayato asked. He had yelled for Tsuna earlier when they appeared back to the Dimension, but Tsuna didn't see them.
Takeshi frowned and thought really hard for a minute, "Must be the Uncle Kawahira. The one the happy guy who kidnapped us mentioned earlier."
Ryohei tried to punch through Checkerface, but it seemed him and the rest of the transported guardians were not in physical form in where Tsuna is, "THIS IS EXTREMELY BAD!"
"Any luck, Chrome-chan?" Mukuro asked. Chrome shook her head frustrated, but determined. Mukuro's red eyes shifted through different characters as he switches paths to try to enter the physical plane. At the same time Chrome had been pooling her power with Mukuro to be able manifest themselves.
"Who knew that meanie was pretending to be nice!" Lambo put in, who was standing next to Takeshi and Hayato.
"Reminds me of Hayato," grinned Takeshi grinned at Lambo. Hayato scowled, and then went on thinking.
"Why are we still ghost-like, though?" Hayato asked.
"What do you mean?" Kyoya asked already tired hearing the Checkerface man explain the seal to his sky.
"Well that guy," still not forgiving the person who messed with them and hurt Juudaime even if it was a twisted way to protect them, "said Wonomichi was going to help Juudaime escaped and-"
"So he's the guy who took us to give us a chance to rescue Tsuna!" Takeshi pounded his fist on his other hand.
"Hn," everyone turned to Kyoya and notice him staring intently on his hand. It was becoming solid.
"EXTREME! WE ARE ALMOST EXTREMELY SOLID!" Ryohei punched the air.
"Not a moment too soon," Hayato pointed out and everyone follow his gaze. Tsuna walked past Reynardo to ask an explanation from Uncle Kawahira, who was muttering something under his breath.
"Juudaime!" Tsuna frowned wondering if he really turning crazy or Hayato was yelling for him. Imagine his surprise when he turned and stared at his friends in shock. Tsuna was torn between smiling and horrified at his friends being here with him.
"We're here to rescue you!" Takeshi grinned.
"THE EXTREMELY SMILING GUY EXTREMELY BROUGHT US HERE!" Ryohei loudly explained.
There was a long silence. Then everyone began to bicker while Tsuna noticed how Uncle Kawahira's body shook in silent rage and slowly put on a mask and his kind and harmless look as Uncle Kawahira turned into the familiar form as Checkerface.
"You're the back up?!" Reynardo asked in disbelief as everyone ignored Checkerface and focused on Reynardo.
"What does that supposed to mean?" Hayato growled at his ex-boss.
"Kufufu, like you did any better," Mukuro laughed. Chrome next to him tugged his sleeve and pointed at Checkerface. The man had his eyes closed (which is hard to tell through his mask) and was muttering some kind of spell.
"Oh no!" Reynardo looked wide eyed and tried to stand up. He fell back roughly when he felt the bonds of Talbot cursed him with took a firm hold over him. Somehow Checkerface was activating it and making it worse. But why…?
Tsuna turned to see Reynardo panicking and more like felt the unnaturalness aura around Reynardo getting worse as Checkerface muttered faster. Tsuna worry increased that even his intuition screamed that something big is going to happen. He went toward Reynardo and released his sky flames as well as absorbed the surrounding sky flames in the clearing to merge together and harmonize to get rid of whatever is tormenting Rey-Rey.
The guardians took this as cue to attack Checkerface as they saw how the masked man somehow worsen Reynardo's condition and this upsets Tsuna.
Hibari, Hayato, Mukuro were not happy to help the very guy that hurt their pride and family, but after hearing his reasons, they will give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides if Reynardo lives through this, they can always beat him up themselves in their terms with no annoying super human involved.
"No please Tsunayoshi! You cannot use your flames! Especially from here!" Reynardo shouted and stood between the young boy and Checkerface. Tsuna stopped for a second, but that was all Checkerface needed.
Furious, Checkerface released from his form a strong multi-flame power toward Reynardo's back, "Show your true loyalty and perish!.
"NOO!" Tsuna cried out as Reynardo crumbled in pain from the seal, unable to dodge the incoming attack. He was much too busy fighting Talbot's curse of killing Tsuna. For a split second Tsuna's worried brown eyes and Reynardo's resigned gray eyes met. Reynardo smiled feebly and turned to face his fate.
That was all that Tsuna needed to finish sealing the Tri-Ni-Sette power into himself to be able to use his sky flames' full capacity to purify.
An huge explosion went off.
For a long minute, it was silent. The smoke only cleared near Checkerface's area.
"Herbivore, you better not done something stupid, I still need to fight you," Kyoya growled with a hint of worry they still cannot see what became of their sky (they didn't really care much for Reynardo's fate).
"The boy is now my sacrifice, you are no use here. Now that traitor is no more, you will share the same fate," Checkerface boomed and summoned another ball of fire attack.
They barely able to see through the now cleared smoke that Tsuna was knocked out unconscious with sky flames flickering around him with Reynardo next to him, bleeding. They can tell it was a fatal wound.
"We are not leaving Juudaime!" Hayato took out his dynamites as Takeshi brought out his sword.
"Yeah what that octopus head said, you big poopoo head!" Lambo cried out and took out grenades.
Ryohei stood up and was about to shout when they felt something like killer intent bore over them and made them crash into the ground. Mukuro, Chrome and Kyoya were on their knees.
"You will not interfere!" Checkerface shouted and released a second fireball.
There was nothing they can do. Their mission to rescue the sky that rescued them from Decimo was a complete failure. Just as things look bleak and the fireball came couple of feet close, the suffocating feeling was abruptly gone. The attack was stopped by what look like an invisible wall. The guardians only suffered a slight backlash and slid back. Everyone wondered what happened.
The questioned was answered by a voice.
The voice sounded familiar, but was slightly different as if older, echoing through the smoke, "You can't have him, just like those who are here with me. You can't touch what is mine!" The smoke cleared again as Tsuna's guardians shook their heads from the dizziness and gaps at an older boy in front of them, shielding them from Checkerface's attack. It was 15 year old Tsuna.
Tsuna stood within a vortex of flames swirling around him where all the other sky element flames around him harmonize into a beautiful orange pure sky flames that are now wielded by Tsuna. There were some black flames as well before they too were accepted into his flames. Anyone present can sense how these flames were powerful and Tsuna was prepared to fight to the death with his dying will.
Checkerface you'll pay for hurting him and my friends! Tsuna quickly flew toward Checkerface and two opposing flames clashed.
A/N: Yosh! Almost done!
Mami isn't an OC if some think that, she is actually had a cameo, but died when she was little (hint: who else has earth flames, some might heard of her brother, but I changed her age to 15 years of age). For the record I had originally planned to end it next chapter, but I just had add an epilogue and cut this chapter in half. So much for the original plan...
Anyways, see you in at most 3 months (for this story since yeah, I have other stories pop up and Real life happens). Arigato minna for reading!
