I do not own Kuroko no Basket.
I stare in shock at Hyuga, not being able to believe what he was saying...Kuroko quitting basketball? It just didn't make any sense.
"Oi, what do you mean Kuroko quit?" I demand, glaring at him slightly. He rolls his eyes and turns his gaze toward me.
"Like I said, yesterday after practice, Kuroko came up to me and said that he was quieting the team...He said that he couldn't play basketball with us anymore. He didn't give a reason or anything. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen to me, he just walked away." Hyuga replies, staring angrily at the floor. The others begin muttering to each other about what we were going to do, no one really seemed to have any confidence in the team without Kuroko. Tuning them out, I walk to my bag and pull out my cell phone, wanting to get answers straight from Kuroko, who just happened to not be at school today, which is odd in itself now that I think about it.
I put the phone up to my ear as it begins ringing, slightly aware of the stares directed towards me as the muttering stops. After about 6 rings the phone switches to his voice mail, cause me to curse loudly and throw the phone down. I turn back to the rest of the team, running a hand through my hair. I let out a curse as everyone else lets out a distressed sigh.
"What are we going to do now?" Koga asks, looking around worriedly. "We don't stand a chance without Kuroko." He continues, only to be hit in the head by Riko.
"He has to have some reason for quitting. Does anyone have any ideas of what could have happened?" she asks looking at all of us. I shake my head with the rest of the players. I couldn't think of anything that was bad enough to make Kuroko not want to play basketball. He loves the sport, he wouldn't quit unless it was something serious.
"Well...we'll just have to ask him tomorrow." Hyuga says before picking the basketball back up. "But right now we need to practice. There is a possibility that we won't be able to convince him to play again, but that doesn't change the fact that we have games coming up." We all agree and begin practicing halfheartedly.
On my way home after practice, I pull my phone out and try again to call Kuroko, getting the same result as earlier. Letting out a sigh, I make my way to Maji Burger. Stepping in, I carefully look around, looking for any sign of Kuroko. Not seeing any, I order my mountain of burgers and take a seat at our usual table. I find myself staring idly at the empty seat across from me as I eat. Letting out another sigh, I throw my garbage away and make my way home.
The next day, I quickly walk to school, determined to get some answers from Kuroko. What is he thinking?..quitting the basketball team like this? I stayed up all night trying to think of a reason why he would quit. But I was unable to think of any reason. Basketball is pretty much Kuroko's life. He wouldn't just throw that away for no reason. Which only led me to believe that he must be sick or hurt or something.
I make my way to the classroom and look around frantically. I am only slightly surprised not to see Kuroko there. Though he is always at school earlier than I am, I had a feeling that he wouldn't show up today either.
The day passes by slowly with no sign of Kuroko. I dejectedly make my way towards the gym for practice, pulling my cell phone out and once again dialing Kuroko's number, for what felt like the millionth time since school yesterday. Resisting the urge to sling the phone against the wall, I stuff it back in my bag
Walking towards the locker room, I quickly change into my clothes for practice. I walk back out and join everyone else.
"I take it Kuroko wasn't at school today?" Riko asks staring at me sadly. I let out a frustrated sigh and shake my head, running my hands through my hair. "Well, we need to get to practicing. Afterward we will go to his house and talk to him there," she says before beginning to give orders.
Practice ends a bit earlier today than usual. We were all anxious to get to Kuroko's house and find out what happened, so, that we could all help him and fix whatever the problem is and get him back on the team.
It didn't take long for us to reach Kuroko's house. We stand outside for a few seconds, before Riko walks up to the door and knocks on it. A couple of seconds pass before the door slowly opens, revealing a petite blue-haired woman.
"Yes?" she asks quietly, smiling softly.
"Hello, mam. I'm Riko Aida. We are friends of Kuroko's. Is he here?" Riko asks politely.
"Oh, I'm sorry. He isn't here. He said he was spending a few nights with one of his friends from school to work on a project."
"Oh. Thank you. Sorry for troubling you." she answers smiling slightly, before turning around and walking back towards us. "She says that Kuroko went to a friend's house to work on a school project." she informs us as the door to the house closes.
"Project? We don't have any projects." I reply confused. What could be going on? "and as far as I know, Kuroko doesn't talk to anyone but us at school."
"I know. Something feels wrong. But why would he lie to his mom like that? What could he possibly be doing?" Riko asks looking concerned. She lets out a sigh before looking back up determined. "It is obvious he isn't here, and probably didn't go to anyone from school's house. So we should look around here, see if we can find anything. We'll meet back in an hour. Call if you find anything."
We nod our heads, before running off in opposite directions. Looking everywhere for any sign of Kuroko.
