Chapter 2: A Mated Miko
She sat almost in a daze. The western lands were rejoicing, their lord Sesshoumaru had taken a mate. It wasn't just any being , it was the legendary Shikon miko.
The same being who helped take down the evil half demon, naraku.
Sesshoumaru stared down at his new mate. Kagome showed almost no response. There was no emotion, no elation, no fear. She was a blank slate.
Sesshoumaru had sat the miko down and explained to her why he was mating her. The only reaction he obtained was a nod from the miko.
She was far too compliant. It unnerved the western prince. He had never seen the woman in such a state.
The two had been mated for about a week. Only in name were they together. Sesshoumaru wouldn't take to claiming the miko as per tradition.
He needed to be able to care for her and for others to not find reason to pull him away from his duty of caring. He knew without their leader, the miko would have no chance. Any other male demons would take her and they wouldn't stop themselves from taking her physically.
Sesshoumaru wasn't much of a caring demon, but her felt he owed the miko, and even though Inuyasha and he never got along, he had still been pack. Sesshoumaru was the only other whom could take on this duty of caring for the miko.
Sesshoumaru sat in his study going through paperwork. He glanced over to his new mate. She sat silently in the corner of the room, clutching Inuyasha's sword. The miko's once bright blue eyes stared blanking at some imaginary spot on the floor.
He had coaxed her to eat and bathe. Her kit was with Rin both were with the tutor. When the children were near her, it was only then that the miko would do anything on her own accord.
The miko could hardly look at Sesshoumaru.
He looked so much like 'him', but they acted so different. All Kagome could think about was 'him', every good quality about 'him'.
A silent tear rolled down her cheek. She knew Sesshoumaru had done what he did to protect others. She understood, even she couldn't hate him for that. She wanted to, but he did what he did for the good of others. Inuyasha wasn't Inuyasha anymore.
She just wished that she could have said goodbye to him.
She felt someone carefully wipe the tear away from her face.
"Come miko, I shall take you to your room." Kagome stood letting Sesshoumaru guide her back to her room. She didn't understand his kindness to her. She knew he felt duty to caring for her, she was just a burden now.
The miko drowned herself in self anguish.
Her blue gaze traveled up to Sesshoumaru. He was delicate with her. The miko couldn't help the sadness that overwhelmed her. Silver hair, gold eyes. It only make her think back to those days.
She looked forward. Sesshoumaru slid a door open. This was technically both her and Sesshoumaru's room, due to them being a mated couple. Sesshoumaru was rarely in the room. When he did come in he usually slept distanced from the miko so not to make her uncomfortable.
Sesshoumaru settled the miko in the room. Her items from her home were in the corner untouched. Kagome sat silently on the risen futon and furs, still clinging to the sword of her lost love.
Sesshoumaru wasn't sure how to communicate with the miko. All he knew to do was to be there, for when she could want someone. Sesshoumaru wasn't a very sociable creature, even though he was a dog demon. His mother and father were not the affectionate type and Sesshoumaru did his best to be the miko's companion.
Sesshoumaru settled his hand onto the miko's head. "I will return."
The miko stayed silent only bobbing her head once to acknowledge that she heard him.
Kagome sat in silence as the door shut. Tears fell silently down her face. She was a burden, she was weak, she couldn't cope.
Was it her own fault Inuyasha had passed? Did he not wish to be stuck with one as weak as she. Would she once cause destruction and damnation wherever she would go. She just felt like if she wasn't there, she couldn't ruin anyone else's lives.
Sesshoumaru went to check over the children. The miko's scent was heavy. He hoped the children could help lighten her spirits.
before reaching the room in which the children were being taught Sesshoumaru heard a loud piercing scream echo throughout the shiro.
For the first time, Sesshoumaru felt panic overwhelm him as he rushed to the sound. It was a maid. She had dropped the bedding for his and the miko's room. He stared down in slight shock as he watched the maid rip apart fabric from her clothing and pressing them down onto the miko's wrist.
The miko's blood dripped off of the old blade.
Her glassy blue eyes caught sight of the demon lords, tears were flowing freely down her cheeks. A broken miserable smile etched onto her face. His medical staff rushed into the room.
Sesshoumaru watched as they worked on the miko. They bandaged her exturnal wounds and took care of her. The room was cleaned and Sesshoumaru had ordered inuyasha's sword be taken to his study by one of his human servants.
He had his staff leave him and the miko in their rooms. Sesshoumaru moved to the miko's side. The entire time she kept eye contact with him.
An emotion Sesshoumaru didn't understand welled up inside him. He pulled his miko into his arms.
"Kagome-" Sesshoumaru spoke bringing her focus to him entirely. " Can you please honor this Sesshoumaru with a request." Kagome nodded to him.
"Let this Sesshoumaru tell you a story. There was once a great Dog General. He was the Inutashio. The past ruler of the western lands. He had a beautiful mate, she was named Chihiro. She was a beautiful demoness. With long silver hair , moon kissed skin and eyes like spun gold. She and the Western ruler had a pup. He looked just like his mother. Many years passed and the western ruler fell in love with another. A human hime. The western ruler abandoned his mate in favor of the human woman. The Demoness Chihiro fell into despair. For she had loved her mate entirely. When her mate abandoned her, he broke her spirit. Chihiro felt as if she could no longer continue on with life. She left her pup with her mate , feeling cast aside and alone she killed herself. She ran and ran till she found the coast of a great sea. She jumped off a great height into the darkness of the sea never to be heard from again. The western lord felt great guilt for being the cause of her demise and soon after followed his former mate to his own doom. With the passing of both his mother and father the young pup grew up in sadness. He never knew what it was to have a family, to be loved or to love." The miko's eyes had widened hearing the story and she hung onto every word.
She felt like she understood the demon before her a bit more.
Sesshoumaru's gold gaze fell unto the miko. "I am here miko. This Sesshoumaru will do all he can to keep you with your pup." Kagome's eyes widened in fear remembering Shippou. Guilt flashed across her face. How could she try to escape.
Sesshoumaru spoke again, "This Sesshoumaru will even travel to gates of hell to bring you back, but you must give this Sesshoumaru a chance. I seek for only a happiness from you miko. I do not wish to replace my half brother. I wish to not make the same mistakes as this one's sire. I want for your contentedness. I take blame for taking the life of Inuyasha. If you wish to cause another harm, come at me miko. I will heal. I will understand your anger. Just let this Sesshoumaru be selfish and have you here for your young one. Give me a chance to make you happy with this one." The demon lord didn't understand why he was so overwhelmed with emotion.
He looked down to the miko and it struck him. She looked like his mother as she bid him goodbye. That deep echoing sadness that overtakes ones one soul. A gut-wrenching pain of anguish and agony or loosing a person to whom you loved, trusted and hoped would always be there. She was like his mother in some ways, but Sesshoumaru was determined this time to ensure that he could save the miko.
The sadness in her eyes. Maybe it had to due with his guilt over his own brother's death.
Sesshoumaru would not outwardly show it but he too was mourning, another family member whom was now gone.
A thoughtful look came into the miko's eyes and Sesshoumaru was rewarded with her words at last.
"Alright." Kagome spoke softly looking up into Sesshoumaru's eyes.
Relief swept through him and the demon lord sat holding his mate thankful that she was willing to live, willing to try, and willing to awaken to a new life with new possibilities.
Sesshoumaru silently made a vow to make his miko alive once more. He would just have to figure out how to do so, for he himself needed help in that department.
Well I hope you all enjoyed that chapter.
