Chapter 22: Road Trip?
I opened my eyes, to the sound of my phone going off. I reached over and looked at my message. It was from Liliana.
- I'm bored, and FYI I officially hate small towns. I'm not sure how you've lasted this long.
I smiled and quickly text her back.
Good morning to you too sunshine.
- I've only been here for like a week and I already miss Ireland:(.
I paused. Rereading her message before a light bulb went off in my head.
….Well then get dressed in something cute and catch a taxi over here.
- Why?
We're going to take a trip.
- …Are you serious?
As the plague.
- Won't Damon be upset; what should I wear?
Just leave Damon to me…wear something cute. I'll see you in 30 mins.
-Ok.
I groaned as I heard giggling. It seemed Stefan and Elena were sexing it up again. Honestly, the bitch was taking up residence in my brother bed and I didn't like it. She either needed to pay some rent or at least be considerate of the ones living here and shut the fuck up.
I sighed and rubbed my temples at the headache coming from just the sound of her voice.
I needed this vacation more than I thought…
I walked to my closet and opened it. I pulled out a strapless white lace corset, a short pair of red shorts and iron fist fox trot platform heels. I tossed them on the bed and went into my bathroom.
I walked into the kitchen and saw Damon.
"Is it hunting season already?" he asked, I smiled a little as I pulled out a Starbucks coffee espresso shot out of the fridge.
"I'm going to take a mini vacation." I said before taking a sip. "I am going to take Lily with me."
"Why?" Damon asked irritation leaking through his voice.
"…She is my daughter Damon."
"Not by blood." He said seriously.
"But my daughter never the less."
"Aurora-" he started again but I cut him off.
"Please Damon, don't fight me on this, I need this. Please." I said.
"How are you going to get there?" Damon asked after a couple of minutes of silence. I shrugged.
"I was just going to run. Compel a car ride or two…maybe a limo driver."
"What about compelling people?" Stefan asked as he stood at the door way.
"None of your concern Stefan, the adults of the house handled it." I rolled my eyes at Damon.
"I'm going out of town." I said to Stefan and he immediately frowned.
"But you have school today." I stopped and stared at him.
"Sweetie I'm not even supposed to be in high school, you're the only 17 year old teenager immortal in this house. I'm merely going there for fun, the world will not stop spinning if I mess a few days.
"Fine. Just bring me back a gift. And try not to get into trouble." I gave a mischievous smirk to Stefan before I walked out of the kitchen.
I pulled out my cell, and made a phone call.
Hello?
"Cristiano…I've missed you. How are you?"
Aurora?!
"That would be me…"
Where-how have you been?
"Just peachy, listen I need a favor."
Sure sure, what do you need?
"I need you to get me a jet so I can travel to my favorite place on Earth."
Italy?
"That would be the one."
I-how? Are you serious?
"Does it sound like I'm joking?" I asked raising my eyebrow, out of habit.
…no…not really, no.
"Great, I'll call you when I get to New York; I expect the jet will be ready by then?"
When will you get here?
I sighed, "I'll give you two hours." I heard sigh in irritation. "Two hours and not a second more you and Poppy can tag along if you wish…oh and make sure that the jet is stocked with drinks…of all kinds ok."
Yes.
"Thanks again." I said before hanging up.
I drained the rest of my espresso when the doorbell rang.
I flashed to get it; Liliana was on the other side.
My eyes ran over her out fit with a smirk, it was quite similar to my own. She too had on a white lace corset, only hers had crossing shoulder straps. She paired the corset with skinny jeans and floral printed wedge sandals.
"Cute." I said and she blushed and said a quick thank you. "Did you eat breakfast?"
She shrugged "I had a bowl of cereal."
I wrinkled my nose with distaste "Do you want some real food? I could scramble you an omelet?"
"No thank you, I'm fully." she said patting her stomach. "So um how are we getting wherever we are going, when are we leaving?"
I ignored her questions when I noticed the little satchel slug around her shoulder. "Did you bring your passport?"
"Yes? Why?"
"Good." I said not answering her question "Give me a second." I said before flashing up to my room grabbing my passport, two pair of sunglasses and then into Damon's room with a smirk.
"Ok." I said appearing in front of her and closing the door behind me. "Come on." I said walking down my drive way. When we passed my car, Liliana stopped.
"How are we getting there?" she asked curiously.
I just smirked at her and handed her the sunglasses that she immediately put on.
I motioned for her to hop on my back. Liliana had a split second of hesitation before she climbed on my back.
"Hold on tight." I said with a smirk while securing her thighs in my hands. Before she could say a word I sped in a direction, away from Mystic Falls.
I ran with her on my back until I was at the outskirts of New York City. New York is one of the best places for shopping, but more importantly it had had private jets. Nothing irritated me more than having to fly with annoying humans.
"That wasn't so bad was it?" I said as she slide down my back.
"Please let me know if you're going to do something like that again." she muttered swaying on her two feet.
I snickered but conceded. "Very well." I ran my fingers through her hair attempting to tame it before I whipped out my phone.
"I'm in New York are you ready?"
Yes ma'am, we leave as soon as you get here.
"Perfect." Was all I said before hanging up.
Liliana and I walked around New York aimlessly for 20 minutes before I hailed down a cab.
"Hello misses, where to?" the cab driver asked.
"Newport's Jets" I said.
Not even five minutes into the ride Liliana fell asleep.
I sighed rolling my eyes at her as her head slumped into my lap and she curled up in the taxi seat.
What am I going to do with her? I thought with a smile.
3rd Person POV
Poppy was singing softly and slightly out of key to one of her favorite songs, 'I don't care' by Fall Out Boy. The hot pink iPod she held was clutched loosely in one hand, her eyes were closed hard in concentration, and her head was rhythmically swaying.
And this was exactly what Liliana woke up to. Well, at least she has good taste, she mused groggily, liking that song too, as she lethargically stretched up her arms towards the ceiling and over her head with a yawn.
Liliana soon realized, after quickly surveying her surroundings; that she was on a private plane, or to be more technical- inside of one.
Confusion and dread, of the unsettling variety, assaulted her central nervous system. As her heartbeat increased from adrenaline.
Then, as if on cue, Poppy's dark ocean blue eyes also opened, sensing the human stir, as well as detecting Liliana's snare drum of a pulse. A tiny twisted smile, one of those real snotty ones she was known for surfaced.
"Oh goody, look who's up," Poppy said lightly pulling the speakers out of her ears, "Have a nice nap?"
Liliana didn't answer straight away, trying to catch ahold of her bearings- merely blinking while rubbing sleep from the corners of her eyes. She tensely scanned the close quarters of the plane's cabin instead.
It was small, but obviously high class, with tiny embroidered cream silk window panels, and soft tan leather seats. They were arranged more like couches in someone's living room, instead of the usual rows that she was accustomed to. There were exotic flowers in lead crystal vases, and gold accents everywhere. She wasn't an expert, but felt you'd have to be an idiot not to know- they weren't brushed steel, they were the real deal.
Her eyes finally stopped darting around, coming to rest upon a large silver tray, piled high with every fruit and pastry ever known to man, as well as decanters of orange juice, milk, and a silver bucket of iced champagne.
It was all laid out in front of her like some kind of spread, upon a short dark mahogany coffee table. She cocked one of her eyebrows and frowned.
"Aurora thought you might be hungry." Poppy answered before Liliana could ask.
"Me and what army?" Liliana finally spoke, more to herself than Poppy, but the vampire girl laughed anyway.
"She might be trying to fatten you up a bit," she giggled, leaning forward as if sharing some great big secret, "you're obviously not big enough to satisfy her as of now, not enough blood flowing through those veins."
"Screw you," Liliana snapped, feeling scrutinized and judged.
"My, my, my…" Poppy snorted loudly, "Got claws you do, this one," she hit at her knee, "I think you and I just may learn to be cozy; my name is poppy by the way."
Liliana smiled wide, all teeth. "Hi poppy my name is Liliana." She sobered fast, remembering her strange predicament. "Hey, where is Aurora anyway and why are we on this plane?"
Poppy nodded. "Figured you'd ask that sooner or later, but it's not for me to tell- sorry. As far as Aurora goes," she pointed towards a door in front of her, "she's flying us, well her along with my older brother Crisanto."
Liliana must have seemed surprised because Poppy further explained. "She didn't want the pilots, or crew for that matter, to interfere with her plans. After all, we can't just have human baggage stumbling around that anyone can just pump later for information. So we drained 'em- the pilots I mean, and compelled the stewards," her eyes lit up knowing she was upsetting her, and finding it delightful, "you know, for a snack later."
"I really wish you hadn't of told me that." Liliana cringed and looked down at the plush navy carpeting.
"Get used to it lily, you're on a plane full of vampires" poppy said gifting her with a fanged smirk before disappearing behind the cock pit door.
Liliana had no idea how long Aurora had ignored her, leaving her to feel like a leper. But sitting in the posh cab of the plane all by her lonesome, gave her a lot of time to reflect about aurora.
Liliana eyed the tray of food that Aurora had so thoughtfully made for her, grabbing a piece of honeydew, while thinking about where exactly in the world that aurora could be taking her, because let's face it aurora never did anything small.
Liliana thought back to her first birthday living with aurora. She had come home from school saddened because a girl in her class just had a huge birthday, with face painting clowns and pony rides. She had always wanted stuff like that but her parents didn't believe in celebrating birthdays.
Aurora had noticed, the difference in her behavior and planned the biggest birthday party that year. She had the entire circus at her house just for her; she was even a helper in some of their acts. That was the first of many birthdays from her new guardian…
The cock pit opened and Liliana watched as Poppy and a handsome man with messy brown hair and the same piercing blue eyes as poppy stood across from her. This must have been her older brother she mentioned earlier, Crisanto.
The overhead speaker sounded off with aurora's sultry voice.
"we are about to touch down my flower…brace for landing."
"You need to buckle up." poppy and her brother said at the same time.
Liliana nodded, and got back into a seat. "Shouldn't the both of you as well?"
"I'm not worried about me," she said flippantly, "besides…" she knocked on her head with her knuckles. "Hard as a rock."
"And as empty as a balloon." Crisanto said with a smirk towards his sister before he disappeared back behind the cockpit.
"Ass." they both whispered before sharing a look and laughing.
They smiled at each other, and Liliana was hoping that maybe now the other girl would spill about their location. "C'mon, it's killing me…where did she take us?"
Poppy eyed the door to where Aurora and Crisanto were warily and whispered. "She'll rip out my tongue and my brother will help if I tell you- it's supposed to be a surprise."
Liliana pouted but understood. "Oh, fine," she crossed her legs, "I guess I'll know soon enough anyway."
They felt the wheels dispatch from the plane's underside, and Poppy mouthed thank you, before going back to join Crisanto and Aurora; leaving Liliana all alone again.
She felt the bump and skip of the plane landing, her tummy doing flip flops from the altitude change, and shrugged to herself. Best to deal with it when the time came and not fret over much about things she couldn't control.
Aurora waltzed into the room with a goofy smile on her face. Poppy and Crisanto following closely behind her.
Aurora wasted no time pulling Liliana swiftly up to her feet. There was an unmistakable sparkle in her eyes.
"Welcome to Venice flower."
Alright, the filler chapter is done...and aurora has taken her adoptive daughter to Venice, our favorite big bad wolf makes his first appearance in the next chapter!
