So it's been two and a half years, and I'm so sorry. I graduated from high school, started college and made a lot of life changes. I am no longer friends with my old best friend. Bad falling out. I have new friends. I joined the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Apoca-Lips Cast. I'm happy now. Recently, I decided I need to finish this story. I hope y'all enjoy this chapter.
Here's chapter 18:
Campbell's POV
After the stress of getting to the airport, I am finally in line to get a ticket to find Maya. It's hard to believe that in maybe two day I will finally have my Maya back.
"Next!" the ticket sales lady calls out.
I step forward. "Hello, my name is Campbell Saunders, I'm here to buy a ticket from Paris to Los Angeles," I tell her.
She stares at me for a moment. Her bleach blonde hair is in a hair ponytail. Her white shirt is unbuttoned a little. If I wasn't inlove with Maya, I would totally hit on her.
She types things into the computer. "Okay, when do you want this flight to be?" she asks.
"As soon as possible, please," I ask politely. I give her a wink. Even though I'm not attracted to this woman, I try to take advantage of getting a good deal for plane. "My baby sister is really sick and I need to get home to help my family."
"Oh no," she says. "How old is your baby sister?" She is looking at me with a look.
I smile at her. "She's only fourteen, but I've protected her since she was born I got a call today that she was in a car accident with her boyfriend. Plus she has been sick for years, so that doesn't help," I lie.
"So, I can get you on a flight that leaves in an hour," she says. "Are you okay to have a layover in New York?"
I think for a moment. A layover would cost me valuable time to find Maya. "Is there anyway you can get me on direct flight?" I ask her. I bat my eyes at her.
She sighs. "Sorry, hunk, but there's no way I could do that for you. I'm pulling so many loopholes getting you on a flight that leaves in a hour. Plus I'm cutting the price on your ticket," she says. She leans in closer. "But I hope you come back to Paris."
She's flirting with me. God dammit! I have to keep my cool or I will be in big trouble. "That's too bad, but I guess my sister can stay alive for a couple of extra hours." I hope that will make her cave in.
"Here's your ticket," she doesn't give in. "Have a great flight, come again soon," she leans in close to me. "And I hope it's real soon."
I take the ticket and go to customs. I go through customs and all the other boring airplane crap, I'm finally waiting to board the plane.
"Flight 2763 Paris, France to Buffalo, New York is now boarding first class seating!" an announcement says.
I look at my ticket. Not me. I'm so close to getting Maya back.
"Flight 2763 Paris, France to Buffalo, New York is now boarding veterans, military personnel, and handicapped!" an announcement says next.
Still not me. I start feeling anxious. What if Maya doesn't want me anymore? What if she's moved on? What if she doesn't love me anymore?
Suddenly, my phone goes off. I check it and it's Tristan.
"What's up?" I ask him.
"Stop freaking out about Maya. She loves you," he tells me.
I look around. He's not here. "How'd you tell I was..." I trail off.
He laughs. "My gay tuition," he says. I laugh. "Now did you take your medication today?" I think about it, not answering. "Take the bottle out of your bag and take your medication."
I open my carry on and take out the bottle of anxiety medication and the bottle of antidepressants. I take out two pills from each bottle. "You gotta do it," I whisper to myself. I uncap my water and take my medication. "There I did it."
I hear him smile. "Good. I want you to take care of yourself. You already tried to kill yourself once, you're not doing it again. Not on my watch."
"Flight 2763 Paris, France to Buffalo, New York is now boarding for all passenger!" an announcement says.
"Hey, Tris, I gotta go, but I'll call you and Miles when I get in to Los Angeles," I tell him. I hang up and get on the plane.
When I reach my seat, I realise I'm sitting next to a soldier. He has light brown hair cut short. Tall and not to sound gay, an attractive face.
Half way through the flight, the flight attendant trips and spills something on the person next to me and me.
"Dammit!" the soldier cries out.
The flight attendant grabs paper towels and starts to dry off the soldier. Everyone is watching us. "I'm sorry, sir. Would you like a complimentary drink? Or something? I can't get in trouble," the flight attendant keeps mumbling.
The soldier shakes his head. "I get injured in battle, decided to take a civilian plane home, find out I have to sit next to some high schooler, now this. I'm going to smell like alcohol when I see Emma!" he does not sound happy.
"Sorry," I say to him.
The soldier laughs. "What are you sorry about kid?"
I look at him strangely. "You seem very upset about sitting next to me. I'm just trying to get to California to find my lost girlfriend," I admit to him.
"Your girlfriend is missing?" he asks me.
I nod. "Yes, she went missing over a month ago. I lost her when I tried to kill myself a couple months back. I've done my research and I am certain she's in California, so here I am."
The soldier laughs hard. "One thing I've learned about girls is that they're a handful." He pauses, thinking about something. "I was in love once."
"Oh yeah?" I say, wanting to hear more from this stranger. I don't know why but I feel a connection with him. "Please tell me more."
"I was in high school. I was in love with Emma. She and I were a really good couple, but then I lost her. I went into the service. We both dated other people," he tells me. He takes a deep breath. "Sorry, had a flashback."
I don't know whether to comfort this stranger or not. "You don't have to tell me. I'm not going to push you to," I tell him.
"I killed a man when I was in high school," he says. My eyes widen. What did I just get myself into? I think. "It was an accident. This kid who was being bullied, Ricky came into school with a gun. He shot Jimmy. He tried to shoot Emma, so I had to protect her. I did, but While trying to take the gun away from him, it went off. I felt his warm blood is his hands. And this guy wasn't innocent. He sent his girlfriend to the hospital. He was an abusive asshole." the guy pauses. "Degrassi was never the same after that day for me."
Did he say Degrassi? "Um, did you just say Degrassi? Like the one in Toronto Canada?" I ask him.
The soldier smiles. "Yes, why?"
This is fate running into this soldier from the place I were I belong to. "My name is Campbell Saunders, I am the Ice Hound that tried to kill himself." I say the last part in a whisper, so no one hears that I tried to kill myself. Sometimes I have a hard time realising that I tried and I'm still alive.
"Sean Cameron," he says, shaking my hand. "I read about you in the paper. I'm sorry to hear, but I understand where you're coming from."
I look at him shocked. "You do?"
He nods. "Yeah, high school is hard, mainly when you feel like an outcast," he says.
"I did feel like an outcast," I admit. "My teammates bullied me because I was good. I had some friends and a girlfriend. But there was a guy named Zig who was also in love with Maya."
"Is Maya her name?" he asks.
"Huh?" I am confused.
"The girlfriend you're trying find find in Cali is named Maya?" he asks me.
"Ooh," I say. I nod. "Yes, her name is Maya Matlin. She's gone missing from Paris and I am almost certain she's in California as someone else."
"Lift your tray, we are preparing to descend!" the pilot announces over the loudspeaker.
"My advice to you is love is rare. Sometimes it doesn't happen to people and a lot of time people lose it. But it seems like you have it. I know it sucks that you lost her, but if you can find her, let her know how you truly feel. This Maya Matlin is lucky enough to have a guy like you trying to keep her safe. If I could go back in time to prevent myself from messing up with Emma I would," Sean tells me.
I look around and notice people are starting to collect their luggage. "Thank you, sir, for everything." Sean and I stand up, grab our luggage and start into the terminal.
He smiles at me. "Kid, call me Sean, sir is too formal," he tells me. I nod. He hands me a piece of paper. I look at it. It has a number on it. "So you can keep in touch with me and tell me how it goes with Maya." He shakes my hand and disappears in the crowd.
I smile. This man could be a good older brother to me. I look at my watch. I run to catch my next flight. There is almost no time between my flights, so I hurry to get to the right terminal.
As I get on the plane, I think of all the support I've been getting since my suicide attempt. I put on my seatbelt, my headphones hooked up to my iPod, I start to drift off to sleep.
Several hours later I wake up to see that the plane has landed. I grab my bag and head out to meet up with Louis' cousin's to stay at his place.
I look up at the screens in the airport and see an ad for some fancy music show that's a week long with Manny Santos co-hosting the show. If Manny will be there, then Maya will be too. I need to go to that concert and find my Maya.
One more week until I finally get my happily ever after.
And here it is. I hope it was worth the wait. School starts up in about a week, so it'll be hard for me to update for a while, but it won't be two years. Thank you for reading and check out my other stories.
