Chapter 7

Rebuilding

Apologies for the very long wait between chapters. I don't feel my story is important enough yet to warrant a "chapter" dedicated to an explanation. Hopefully I'll reach that point in the future.

At the start of January, the power supply unit for my desktop died whilst I was halfway through this chapter. A few days later I was set to travel to South America for several weeks, so I figured I would just wait to get it fixed when I'm back. Since arriving back from a fantastic trip, I have been extraordinarily busy preparing for University in September and taking part of an intensive training course for work as a carer. Simply point, I've been too distracted to take the time to sit at my computer to work on the story.

However, I've constantly been thinking about it. I haven't typed a word for this story in several months, but I have mentally progressed the further in so many different directions. I have read a handful of fanfictions and have seen plenty of discussions on forums, videos and so on. Fantasy fights, what ifs and this would be cools have all been mentioned. I haven't once seen any of the things that I have planned mentioned by anybody. That doesn't mean they haven't been said or done, but there is the potential for the elements of my story to be truly unique and that excites me greatly. So much so that I've finally made time to continue with it. I'm itching to expand the story as much as I can and share it with the people who have enjoyed what they have seen so far.

I don't think I'll ever be able to a fixed schedule for posting chapters with work and university to factor in, unless the story gets popular enough to warrant it. Ideally this length of time between chapters won't ever happen again. I appreciate every single person who reads my story. Every person who has favourited or followed this story, I am very grateful for. I've never written before, so that to me says "I like what you're doing, I want to see more". I won't leave this story unfinished. I don't want to have the best story, I just want to have one which people enjoy.

I'm on the edge of my seat! How will all this affect Gohan and Vegeta? I hope Trunks will still exist sooner or later... And what about the Androids? And Cell?

Without getting into spoilers, everything you're curious about will be addressed and in a way that makes sense. I don't want to give any hints at all to the story because they may be potential spoilers.

Goku addressed his mentor,

"King Kai, you know about everything that has happened here?"

"Of course Goku, I've been watching your battle this entire time. I would have liked to offer my congratulations under better circumstances. What you have done for the universe can not yet be comprehended."

"Thank you King Kai. But if you've been watching me this entire time, how have you managed to gather the dragonballs?"

"I didn't collect them personally, I've been communicating with Kami telepathically and he had his assistant, Mr Popo gather them. He did so in remarkable time too, and without a radar I might add."

"That's great! We can wish Gohan back right away!"

"Now hold up there Goku, Gohan isn't the only person who needs to be wished back. You do of course realise that the planet you are on has been wiped out of it's entire population right?"

"Yeah...but..."

"No worries, I told you I have an idea didn't I?I have had time since you defeated Frieza to think about how to best use our available wish. We will wish for everybody killed as a result of Frieza and Vegeta's actions who we don't consider to be an enemy to be restored to life. This will have multiple effects. Firstly, it will restore to life everybody on Earth who died when Vegeta and Nappa arrived, including the citizens that they killed. It will also restore to life Yamcha and Tien who died fighting them both, but unfortunately Chiaotzu can not be restored. And most importantly, it will restore to life all of the people on planet Namek who were killed by Frieza, Frieza's henchman and Vegeta. You know what that means?"

"Alright! We can bring Gohan back to life as well as everyone else!"

"Yes Goku. If the wish goes as planned, we won't see any of our enemies restored to life. I have spoken to Chiaotzu and he accepts his fate. Tien is hesitant to be restored seeing as his only companion is Chiaotzu, but after talking it over they have both agreed that he should return to Earth. Evil always rears its ugly head and he may be needed in the future. He also has retained his goal of one day surpassing you and it is only fair that he do so on even terms. Yamcha accepts that he has people to return for and is also willing to be restored. Are you ready to make the wish?"

"Yes King Kai, we are ready."

Back on Earth, Mr Popo is ready to summon Shenron.

"Eternal Dragon, answer my call. Arise and grant me a wish."

What was a beautiful sunny day was quickly gone. The sky had immediately darkened, filled with black clouds producing devastating thunder and lightning which scorched the ground all around the dragonballs. This continued until 7 lightning strikes simultaneously stuck a dragonball each. The dragonballs were unharmed, and begun to glow. Light begun to emerge from the balls and formed a shape in the sky, and thus appeared Shenron, the eternal dragon.

"SPEAK. NAME YOUR WISH. SAY IT NOW AND IT WILL BE SO GRANTED."

"Yes, of course. Please Shenron, restore to life those who were killed over the last few months as a result of actions, directly and indirectly of the Saiyans Nappa and Vegeta, the tyrant Frieza and any of their henchmen but do not restore any that we consider to be an enemy. Is this within your power?"

"DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ASK OF ME MORTAL? THIS IS NO SIMPLE WISH. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS WITHIN MY POWER TO GRANT IT."

"If you do not know, who does? So many innocent lives are dependant on this."

"I..WILL TRY."

Several minutes passed. The wish was of a magnitude that Shenron had never encountered before. The sky remained black, the clouds producing the occasional spark of lightning. Mr Popo did not move an inch, nor did he blink. He waited anxiously for the result of the dragon, as did King Kai who was informing those on Namek of what was happening. Then finally, the dragon's eyes were illuminated for five seconds before he addressed Mr Popo.

"IT IS DONE, YOUR WISH IS GRANTED. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, FAREWELL."

Shenron reverted back into light, which then directed itself into each of the seven dragonballs. They were glowing once again, but now they were rising into the sky. They reached the point where Shenron's head had been, then the orange balls turned into stone. A blinding flash of light lit up the sky for miles around, before the balls were launched in 7 different directions across the planet. The storm clouds quickly drifted away, and the day was beautiful once again.

Several miles away, Tien and Yamcha found themselves back on Earth and without halos. They did not celebrate as the cost of them being here meant that Chiaotzu was not there to join them. They nodded at each other before heading off in different directions. Thousands of humans found themselves back on Earth as well. The wish truly had restored everybody to life.

Back on Namek...

Goku and those with him anxiously stood above Gohan who had been laid to rest on the flattest piece of ground they could find. Goku was struggling to contain his emotions. Watching his son laying dead was far worse than any battle he had ever taken part in. He wanted nothing more than to unleash his anger that he felt towards Vegeta. He wanted to scream in rage, lose himself in the fury of the Super Saiyan transformation and to satisfy his bloodlust. He knew this would accomplish nothing however, and he was able to maintain his composure.

Piccolo suddenly let out a gasp, the influence of Nail inside of him burning strong. He sensed all of his fellow people, his brothers not quite from another mother were alive again. Nails influence was not enough to convince Piccolo to express joy, but he did produce a small smile to express satisfaction. But what of Gohan?

The sky above them turned black with no warning, and storm clouds were quickly formed. The warriors were on edge, what did this mean? Was the planet under attack by Frieza's henchmen? Or perhaps the damage from the fight had caused this? Before they had a chance to react, they were caught off guard by a voice.

"Dad? Piccolo? What just happened?" To Gohan, no time at all had passed since the attack that had struck him, and him now finding himself on his back looking up at everyone.

"Gohan!" exclaimed Goku, who forgot all about what was taking place on the planet and had picked his son up off the ground in less time than it took for somebody to blink and fiercely hugged him.

"Dad? Dad! What's the matter? What the heck happened just now?" Goku let go of him, looking at him with pure joy, but unsure of what to say. Krillin and Piccolo exchanged looks, neither sure of what to say. It was Dende who answered.

"You died Gohan, Vegeta attacked us and you were the one that his attack hit."

"Seriously? I really died? But I feel fine, how did I get back? You used Porunga to wish me back?"

"Porunga? No, we used the dragon on Earth" said Krillin.

"Then why is Porunga summoned?" Gohan replied and pointed into the distance. Everyone turned to look in astonishment, Gohan was right. Porunga was indeed summoned, not too far from Frieza's spaceship. It then became clear to everyone why the sky was black, but none of them could explain how. Guru had died of old age, he hadn't been killed by anybody.

"I got it!" said an invisible voice in everyone's head.

"Guru must have died prematurely as a result of his people dying, the poor guy must have died of a broken heart"

"Who is that?" asked Gohan. The confusion of everything happening was beginning to stress the young boy out. He had only just noticed that Vegeta was not with them. He noticed that his Saiyan armor was scorched, it definitely had not been previously. The enormity of dying was suddenly sinking in, and he was now struck by enormous fear, despite being alive and well currently.

They had all fought for so long against Frieza and Frieza had managed to deal enormous damage to Gohan on multiple occasions, yet Gohan had managed to survive every onslaught. How could he die to a simple energy blast? He looked to his dad in horror, hoping to get some sort of reassurance but his father could only look back with a look of guilt and shame. He didn't know what was going on in the young boys head or what to say at that moment. Luckily, they were all distracted again by King Kai who had continued to talk.

"Goodness, Guru is indeed alive! That means we have one more wish to use guys!" Everyone except Gohan expressed joyful shock. Gohan was too focused on working out how he had managed to die to pay attention to the news.

"But what on Earth should we wish for? Or better yet, what on Namek." King Kai couldn't contain himself and begun to snigger at his own comments. Krillin interrupted him.

"What on Earth actually makes more sense. We can wish for Chiaotzu back! That way everybody will be back, everything will be undone except for Frieza and Vegeta being defeated!"

"That's brilliant Krillin!" exclaimed King Kai. "What a fortunate turn of events. The planet Namek is pretty beat up though. Let me speak to Guru first, you can all make your way to Porunga but do not make a wish without my approval, understand?"

"Yes King Kai" replied Goku.

He cheerily looked at his son and his friends and floated into the air, expecting them to follow. Everybody but Gohan followed suit. Gohan hadn't noticed them take off. He was so caught up in his own mental conundrum. He was just a kid, why had he died? What if Piccolo had also been killed, he wouldn't have been brought back. And was he selfish to expect to be brought back? So many questions and scenarios were flowing through the child's head, yet he never once placed blame on his father.

"Gohan, what's the matter son?" A concerned Goku asked him.

"Oh, nothing. I'm just thinking about what happened, that's all."

"I promise I'll tell you everything soon Gohan, okay?"

They made eye contact, their close bond had not changed. Gohan found comfort and nodded his head. He took off into the air and they flew towards Porunga. Goku flew alongside Gohan to keep an eye on him and answered his question about the voice.

"That voice was King Kai Gohan, he's the master of martial arts from Otherworld who trained me after the fight with Raditz.

"Oh" Gohan replied nonchalantly.

Goku was slowly growing concerned for his son. Gohan looked quite serious, but maintained his focus on flying. They soon landed in front of Porunga who addressed them the moment they hit the ground.

"I GROW WEARY OF WAITING, USE YOUR FINAL WISH NOW!"

Piccolo addressed him in Namekian, a language he inherited from Nail.

"Please almighty Porunga, we request a few more moments of your time. We do not wish to waste your vast power on an inappropriate wish."

The dragon glared at him, but said nothing more. Goku spoke out loud to the voice in everyone's head.

"King Kai, are we cleared to wish back Chiaotzu, or is there something else we should wish for?"

"You're all set Goku, I have discussed this with Guru already and we agree that the wish is all yours. Without all of your help, everybody on this planet would be dead right now and Frieza would likely be immortal. Whilst the planet has suffered quite a lot of damage, it is not irreparable. The Namekians can maintain their current lifestyle with a few alterations. It will take time, but everything will be recovered with time."

"Aw gee King Kai, I almost feel bad for them. They could use the wish to restore the planet right now."

"No Goku, that would be unwise. Guru is unlikely to survive for one more Namekian year. You risk Chiaotzu not being wished back at all. Besides, the Namekians only summon the dragon in extreme circumstance. Summoning a second time would result in two wishes that they do not need. Trust me, wishing Chiaotzu back now is the best thing to be done. Don't worry, the Namekians are a race of survivors. They will be just fine."

"Alright King Kai. Guys, are you ready?"

Piccolo and Krillin nodded. Gohan was staring at the ground. He hadn't been paying much attention to what had happened.

"Gohan?"

"Oh. Yeah Dad, lets do it."

Goku smiled and nodded, but his concern for Gohan was refreshed. He couldn't act yet however, the y had to bring back his friend. Piccolo spoke once Gohan had replied

"Porunga, please restore to life the Earthling known as Chiaotzu who died on planet Earth several weeks ago at the point of his demise."

Porunga's eyes flashed bright yellow before reverting to their normal state.

"YOUR WISH IS GRANTED. I MUST LEAVE NOW."

And like Shenron on Earth had done, Porunga converted himself to light and directed himself into all seven of the dragonballs and soon enough, they too were scattered across the planet.

Back on Earth

Chiaotzu had shut his eyes after saying his farewells to King Kai. He opened them again after feeling the effects of the wish take place and he found himself back on Earth, down on the ground from the point where he had committed his energy into the explosion that took his own life. He truly believed he would never be back having already been wished back once before. The moment was almost overwhelming for him, but he kept his composure and sensed out his partner. The sheer joy that he felt from Tien after telepathically linking together was worth every single thing that Chiaotzu had gone through. He looked around at the area. It was still badly damaged from the fight with the Saiyans. He knew that he was in an absolutely exceptional circumstance to be back, and was determined to never allow his new life to be at risk again. He flew off towards the mountains where he and Tien lived in privacy and planned on training immediately.

Back on Namek, King Kai has informed the group of what has happened.

"Now all we need is to get you all home. But first, Guru would like to talk to all of you. He has gathered all of his people to his home. My guess is that he wants to thank you for everything that has happened."

"Aw shucks, it was nothing. But we'll be happy to see him, right guys?"

Piccolo nodded and Krillin replied with "of course!" but Gohan was staring into space again. They all looked at him, and this time it was Krillin who spoke to him.

"Hey buddy, are you okay?"

"Huh?" he replied as he was taken out of his thoughts. "Oh, yeah Krillin I'm okay. I'm just thinking about everything. I really did die, didn't I?"

The question was rhetorical, he didn't need confirmation. Krillin hesitated, unsure of what to say to such a young boy, but accepted that Gohan was extraordinarily mature for his age. He looked to Goku who was showing extreme discomfort with the situation so Krillin decided to answer.

"You did Gohan. Vegeta's blast was so fast, there was nothing any of us could have done. Not even Goku could have stopped it."

Goku's fist begun to clench, his muscles tensing.

"I should have stopped it. It's my job to protect you!" Krillin interjected before Gohan could reply.

"Goku, it was impossible. There was no way you could have stopped it without attacking Vegeta first. We didn't know he would pull such a ruthless move, especially after fighting together with him for so long."

Krillin was hoping to offer reassurance, but the reminder of how his son and friends had been Vegeta's allies only enraged Goku further. His power was beginning to swell, his hair was becoming rigid. Krillin fell backwards in shock and slight amounts of fear.

"Dad?"

Goku looked at Gohan, struggling to contain his anger.

"Gohan, I am sorry that I failed you as a father. I promise you it will never happen again!"

"Dad, it wasn't your fault. I'm not upset at you, I just wish I was stronger. I might not have died. I'm always too weak. I couldn't save you from Raditz and you had to die. I couldn't save our friends from Nappa and they had to die. Now I couldn't save myself from Vegeta, and I had to die."

Goku calmed down immensely after hearing his son and his hair returned to its normal position. He was distraught that his son felt that way.

"Son, against Raditz, we all would have died if you hadn't injured him, not just me. You held off Nappa long enough for me to arrive, without you, Krillin also would have died and without you, Frieza would have killed all of us before I was healed. You've saved my life and our friends lives so many times already. You're much stronger than I was at your age. I couldn't be any more proud of you than I am right now."

Gohan smiled at his dad and Goku ruffled his hair.

"Dad, can we train together when we get home? We can get stronger together."

"Your mother will probably have a say in that, but I'll try to include you as much as I can. Sound good?"

"Yeah!"

Goku put his arm on Gohan's shoulder and they both smiled strongly at each other. Their bond unbroken and Gohan feeling better. Goku indicated for them to follow, and they headed to the Elder Namek's home. Goku didn't need guidance, it seemed that every native Namekian had gathered in one place. It didn't take long for them to reach it and Goku's guess was right. Hundreds of Namekians had formed a circle around the largest of them who had been aided to the ground. He had been explaining the situation to them all, and they were now all eagerly awaiting the heroes of their planet.

The warriors from Earth landed in the circle and were almost knocked off their feet from the eruption of applause. Every Namekian was cheering and applauding them and Guru smiled down on them.

"My children, these are the Earthlings who saved our planet. As you can see, one of them is our kin. What you may not realise is that one of them is a Saiyan, and his child has his Saiyan blood also."

Some of the Namekians looked quite shocked, and muttered amongst themselves before Guru continued his speech.

"It was a demon from space who invaded our planet with his minions. It was a Saiyan with his own agenda who also took part in slaughtering us. Naturally this would make us cautious towards outsiders. Some of you may remember today and wish to defend our planet in the future without knowing the intention of the outsiders. Do not forget yourselves, my children. We are peaceful. It was outsiders who hurt us, and it was outsiders who helped us. A Namekian born and raised on Earth, a Saiyan and his son and their Earthling friend."

"Let this be a reminder to all of you. The way we look, where we come from and who our brothers are is not what binds us. What binds us is our unshakeable belief in what is right. The right to live in peace in our homes, even if we the home we find ourselves in is not our birth home. The right to fight for what is right and to protect what we value most. All of these warriors came from different homes, but they did not hesitate to help us in our moment of peril. Remember that my children with any struggles you encounter."

All of the Namekians begun to cheer again and lots of various shouts of thanks could be heard throughout the crowd. Guru extended his hand to each of the warriors from Earth and they all grabbed it in turn.

Goku cheerily put one hand behind his head and raised the other up to gesture as he spoke.

"Thank you Mr Guru, but it was nothing honestly. Thank you for the honour and privilege of using your dragonballs, we were able to wish our friends from Earth back to life because of you. We will always be grateful to you."

Goku was cut off from speaking when a loud rumble was heard. The Namekians looked around cautiously, but Krillin and Gohan had turned red, Krillin with his palm covering his face. Goku laughed and addressed Guru again.

"I will be more grateful however if you had food for us!"

Krillin and Gohan both fell on the floor and Piccolo shouted at Goku.

"Be more respectful Goku! We don't have food, we survive on water."

"Oh, really? But how do you guys get muscles then?"

This time it was Piccolo who covered his face with his palm. He didn't dignify Goku with a response. Krillin spoke up.

"I think it's time for us to head home. Goku's ship is big enough for all of us and there should be plenty of food for us there. Our friend is waiting for us too, she must be terrified right now."

Goku nodded and smiled at all of the Namekians. Krillin and Gohan waved their farewells and Piccolo sensed out each of them in turn. He felt a kinship with all of them, but he would still not express emotion. This was his way to feel close to them. He would not be staying, he belonged on Earth.

As they were about to leave, a voice could be heard.

"Please take me with you!"

Dende had rushed out from the crowd.

"Huh? How come?" replied Krillin

"Guru was right. Our bonds run deeper than race. All of you helped us here, I want to help you on Earth."

Some of the Namekians were muttering again, Guru simply smiled. He was proud that his youngest was also one of his wisest and most ambitious.

"I don't know, I don't think my wife will be happy if we brought somebody home with us" replied Goku. Piccolo interjected.

"Dende, are you sure? You might never be able to come back here."

They both looked into each other, Piccolo could see the determination for himself. His experience with Dende whilst fighting Frieza in addition to the bond that Nail had caused him to care for the boy, more so than for any of the other Namekians. Dende's reply was simple but firm.

"Yes."

"Very well. I will take you if Guru permits it" replied Piccolo. Krillin and Goku both looked at Piccolo in shock and awe. The only person he had shown commitment to was Gohan. After fighting together under the most dire of circumstances, Krillin and Goku had formed a friendship and respect for Piccolo, but knew he wasn't the type to invite home for dinner.

Dende approached Guru.

"Honourable elder, please accept my request to follow them to Earth. I believe I can learn and better myself there. If Saiyans and Earthlings can come to Namek in peace and aid us, then a Namekian can go to Earth in peace and offer aid."

Dende's eyes were fiery with passion. Guru was beaming, proud of the fine young man this boy would become.

"My boy, you have proven to be wise beyond your years. I believe you could be a fine addition to planet Earth. You have my blessing."

Dende and Gohan both let out shouts of joy and ran to each other. Piccolo had another rare smile and Goku and Krillin happily watched the two young boys. His rumbling stomach served as a reminder to everyone that it was time to head home. With more waves of farewell from everybody present except Piccolo, the warriors from Earth and their Namekian friend left. Krillin separated from them to find Bulma and the others made it to Goku's spaceship. With the modifications Dr Brief had made, the travel time between Earth and Namek was only one week. As they waited for Krillin and Bulma to return, Gohan took the time to ask his father a question.

"Dad, what happened to Vegeta?"

Deep into Space, a transmission is taking place between two spaceships

"Sire, I regret to inform you that our reports are true. Lord Frieza has been killed. The recording tools from his spacecraft were able to record audio from across the entire planet. We have deduced that two Saiyans were able to defeat Lord Frieza. The two then fought amongst each other. One defeated the other and this resulted in the defeated Saiyan being launched into space from one of the Ginyu Force's space pods. We confirm that the other Saiyan and his comrades have set course for a planet named Earth."

The leader of the spaceship who had been addressed took hold of a glass of wine and consumed a large portion of it.

"Thank you for your report Captain Salza. Dismissed."

The holograph of the being known as Salza bowed, before being replaced with another figure. The leader addressed this new figure.

"You know what needs to be done"

"Of course. Regardless of my feelings towards Frieza, this disgrace will not be tolerated."

The leaders of both ships nodded at each other and then cut off their transmission."

Although the transmission had been cut, both leaders said the same sentence to the minions on their own ships.

"Set a destination for planet Earth."

And that is the end of Chapter 7. I'm happy to finally be able to publish it after such a long downtime and I'm excited to continue the story. There are now two enemies heading to Earth to avenge the death of Frieza. I'm sure just about all of you are able to work out who they are, it will be interesting to see how the Z fighters handle two of them at once. Perhaps they won't be able to.

I Also want to mention that any healing that Dende may or may not do in the future will not cause the Zenkai powerup to continuously occur. That isn't very interesting to story progression and is a bit cheesy in general. The powerups on Namek were an essential part of the story, otherwise Goku and Vegeta would not have been able to defeat Frieza and this would have been one very short story. The increased power of Goku at this point in the story compared to canon will be factored in to my story, but will not have big implications. Vegeta is also stronger compared to canon at this point in the story, but he's also drifting uncontrollably through space right now and is quite beat up. Saying anything more would be a spoiler :)

Unimportant note, but I felt silly having to constantly use the term "warriors from Earth". I did so because the term "Earthlings" which includes The Saiyan Goku, The Namekian Piccolo and sometimes The Saiyan Vegeta wouldn't be correct. If anybody else happened to notice the term a lot, that is why I use it.

Thank you very much for reading this chapter, I hope you enjoyed it. I'm always welcome to feedback, ideas and constructive criticism.
