Chapter 1
If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.
At long last they had finally subdued Loki and placed him back in a cell, this time with the proper restrains to keep him down. A muzzle prevented him from speaking, and a tricked out handcuff from Stark was also placed on his wrists.
They gave no room for pity because of the countless people who died in the invasion.
Loki was left inside his new cell, trapped with metal walls surrounding him and bathroom door. The only thing decorating the room was a single white bed that he sat on.
They couldn't forget the change of Loki's attitude when they caught him.
Loki was silent, watchful and his whole demeanor had them almost at a stage where they were either pitiful or downright cautious of him. Loki's defeated form and moments of confusion were all but unnoticeable.
They figured it could be temporary, because by the time they had gotten to him, the mask of indifference came into play and his emotions were shielded from the world.
They would have to break that while he was still there.
Once that was through, the Avengers were all given time to clean up and rest. It had been a tiresome few days for all of them, but it was finally over and everyone was back to work.
Or at least, that's what they thought.
The fun never ends after all, and where there is order, chaos was bound to follow.
They had saved the city from being invaded by aliens, destroyed the remaining Chitauri running about and Shield had begun to rethink their plans about Phase 2 of using the tesseract as a weapon. By Shield, it meant Fury and a few loyal members.
For now, they junked the idea.
They knew it was useless to tamper with it, knowing the extent of damage it cost, it wasn't a joke.
Of course, they had the tesseract secured in a tight location inside the Helicarrier, not touched or seen by anyone who doesn't hold a clearance level of authority. Once it was secured, they settled for a break.
They had not only gotten the tesseract as a prize for their victory, but got new things out of it as well, like their new growing friendship with each other. After all, they worked together to save the world despite the strange circumstances of their meeting.
Not only did they acquire the tesseract back, won the world and saved countless others, but also gotten back a valuable teammate that was lost and taken from the beginning of the chaos.
For Natasha's sake, she had been reunited with her partner again.
For Fury's sake, he had gotten a great Agent back from being mind controlled and was now settling back to his normal life. Clint was doing his best to face the problems, he himself had helped cause.
It was a new step to overcome the challenge.
Tony, he bit back the realization of monsters and magic and dared not to think about it for the time being. Being up in space and to see that he wasn't much of a hero had gotten to him. He hid his emotions as best as he could, because what difference would it make to try and control it when you have yet to understand it.
Steve and Bruce adjusted fine, and nothing seemed to trouble them.
Thor however, tried his best not to take pity on Loki's injured state. Once they built a proper machine, they would activate the tesseract safely and send both of them home.
For now, Earth was safe.

These troublesome few days for the Avengers had taken its toll on them, so they decided to hang back and relax. A few days had passed and the Avengers were called for on the Helicarrier for a brief meeting. It was the main deck where they monitored the entire ship and its technology.
They were discussing what they were going to do, now that it was finally over.
"Am I free to get back to whatever is left of my tower?" Tony grumbled. "How long until we lay low, and the chaos dies down?"
"Just until you, Dr. Selvig and Dr. Banner finish the containment of the tesseract." Fury replied. "Once that's finished, you are free to leave, Mr. Stark."
"Of course." Tony rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry, Stark." Natasha crossed her arms. "I'm sure there's something left in your building that you could recover."
"I actually want to start off from scratch."
"Why don't you?" Clint raised his eyebrows.
"I might." He shrugs, leaning back. "I'm not sure but Pepper will be back from DC and I'll show her what I came up with. I might take a break for a while. Like hell will you guys need Iron man so soon after this fiasco, right Legolas?"
"I prefer being called, Barton or Hawkeye, Stark." He nonchalantly stared. "And what makes you think you'll be called into the business again?"
"Whatever."
"Why are we called here again?" Bruce asked, noticing the absent of a certain man. "Why isn't Dr. Selvig here?"
"He was left to monitor the tesseract." Fury stated. "While you two are here, he's making a container to help get Thor and Loki back to Asgard."
Thor snapped from his thoughts, turning to them.
"You three have the capability to make the project." Fury continued. "And from what data we've gathered, the tesseract isn't exactly behaving normally."
"I thought it was already stable, Sir?" Steve stared.
"And it was shut down with Loki's scepter." Natasha quirked an eyebrow.
"We aren't sure. It was tampered too much since Loki and the Chitauri. Our best bet is to have Dr. Selvig and the other scientists to examine it further. This is why I don't have the rest of you Avengers down there. It's been a few days."
"Sir with all due respect, where was the scepter put?" Steve questioned.
"In a safe location, hauled in by a few Agents of ours." Fury said. "It's none of your goddamn business anymore, Rogers."
"Why wasn't I called in anyways?" Tony piped up, disapprovingly. "I named the clean energy business with my arc reactor."
He pointed at his chest proudly.
"He had his reasons." Hill spoke for Fury. "No games, experiments and just a good clean testing. We know how you work, Mr. Stark."
"Why can't Loki do time on Earth to pay for his crimes?" Steve scowled. "I think justice is needed for what he did."
"He will receive justice." Thor turned to them tiredly. "Asgardian justice."
"I don't think it will work out." Steve voiced out.
"What kind of justice would that be, exactly?" Fury asked, waiting to be convinced. "I don't suppose Loki will pay for the damages he'd done once he goes through this Asgardian Justice, will he?"
"The tesseract belongs to our world, not only that but he is also my brother." Thor exclaimed, sadly. "Or was my brother. No matter what means of trial you place upon him, it will not be enough and condemning him to a lifetime of jail will be useless. He will outlive your people and escape on his own."
"We get it, you're immortal." Tony said.
"We can die, only through rougher means." Thor said. "And we only live to 5,000 years."
"Say that I agree." Fury interrupted. "I don't suppose this would ensure Earth's safety."
"It will." Thor's voice cracked of uncertainty. "You have me as your ally, and these people to defend with. No matter the problem, I will return when I can. I will make sure Loki causes no more trouble. I give you my word."
Thor hardened his heart for Loki; because he knew trusting him will be useless.
His little brother was gone and there was no more point in hoping that Loki was still in there. He gave Loki a chance to prove himself worthy by stopping the destruction, but Loki continued it and tried to kill him.
His little brother was dead.
And a stranger had taken his face, his voice and had changed his life.
"Let's say this plays out." Clint tapped his foot on the ground. "What kind of justice waits for him there?"
"It is up to the council and my Father."
"We leave it to them." Natasha leaned back. "I don't suppose we have any problem in letting Thor go with the tesseract, and Loki. It's caused enough trouble in this planet just by being fished out of the ocean."
"It should have been left in the ocean." Steve told her. "Is there any other problem we have to concern ourselves with?"
"The council." Hill spoke. "They may be a problem."
"Damn the government." Tony flailed his arms. "They sent a nuke that almost killed thousands of people. I sacrificed my ass for the greater good."
"And the greater good thanks you." Fury smirked.
Tony would never admit that the sheer terror of being in space had gotten to him. He only spoke about it to address the situation that was relevant to the team conversation; after all, he wasn't part of the team.
He was just the consultant.
Oh New York.
Nothing will be the same again, won't it?
How terribly amazing is that?
When you think about it, the events that would soon play out will turn into the biggest adventure they will have or the most terrifying nightmare they can never wake up from.
Back to the point, they still had to control the situation as best as they could.
That meant, Fury.
"We have that to deal with." Fury cocked his head. "I'll handle the council and whatever they throw at me. I have a speech handed out to them in case they ask."
Tony agreed.
"What about me?" Bruce raised his head. "I don't suppose I'll be caged this time around. Will I?"
"You've done your job, Dr. Banner. We're not going to hold your stay here any longer."
"You can come with me." Tony offered. "Like I said, I'd love to work with you on a few things. It'll be cool."
"I'll think about it." He twiddled his fingers. "Thanks."
"No problem." Tony gave him a thumbs up. "Always want your best interest at heart, Banner."
Bruce couldn't help but smile at the kindness.
Just as they thought things would get better, Erik came storming through the door with Shield Agents following behind. His heavy eyelids threatened to drop, working non-stop and was tired as the rest of them. With him being the one who helped interplanetary war, he stood there, catching his breath.
"Doctor?" Natasha narrowed her eyes.
"Something's happened." He cried out, a little mad. "It's the tesseract."
oOo
Captured in the cell, Loki was exhausted. They didn't take any chances with his words or his actions so they left them in the cell for a few days with only a bathroom. They didn't give him time to clean up, or eat or change clothes, no.
He really was a prisoner.
The look on Thor's face pained Loki so much and he could barely remember anything that happened. He tried to recall the events and they came into play one by one.
His emotions had gotten the better of him, as he clung to the sheets with sweat trickling down his face. The horrors he had done, and the realization was too much.
You think this madness will end with your rule?
No.
No it wouldn't have.
It would have been made worse because he wanted no throne.
It was his.
His so called… master.
Loki allowed himself to sleep from time to time. The fatigue ran through his body as the wave of tiredness clung desperately to him. What was the point of fighting when they (the Avengers) had already won?
After all, Loki was away from the horrid creatures called Chitauri and the Avengers were known as the lesser of two evils.
If you call them evil.
He had grown accustomed to being placed in a cell that he finally just gave up.
He was tired of the walls restricting him.
Loki would almost chuckle at the thought of being placed in a cell, not truly being responsible for the deaths of many. He was just a general of the army, not the actual ruler.
How many times has that happened in the past year?
His fall on the Bifrost caused him to reach insanity, to be scarred and broken again by another, only to be cast into a cell. Only to be left to his thoughts and cast to a world then trapped to another.
Lies, deceit, pain and suffering had done nothing but drown him.
How ironic was that?
He laid back, shut his eyes tight and the moments did not last long. Loki felt dizzy and slept a good few hours, only to open his eyes to a shaking room.
"The lights?"
The lights were going on and off and Loki felt panic rise from his chest.
"What is going on?"
Loki hadn't felt trapped in a long time.
There were Agents shouting to brace themselves outside his cell and Loki stood up from the bed wobbling to the door. He felt a jerk or pull that resulted in him crashing to the floor by the door.
His metal shackles sounded as it hit.
Loki tried to stand up, only to be jerked around, losing his footing as he slid across the room by the bed.
Why was his room tilting?
Another jerk caused Loki to slide again, only to stop himself by stomping on the wall with his foot.
"By Odin's beard, do they know how to stir this ship?!" Loki angrily grabbed the bed and clung to it tightly, glad that it was bolted on the floor. "What is happening?"
Loki thought there might be malfunctions in their flying fortress, but quickly went away when Loki felt a dizzying spell.
It caused him to groan.
"Why is this happening?" Loki thought, feeling his grip slip. "What is causing this?"
The Helicarrier was flying badly, causing objects to twist and turn. Loki sat there at the edge of the bed, clinging to it for dear life as the tremors continued.
Loki's thoughts went to the tesseract.
"By the Norns, what nonsense is this?" Loki braced himself.
The Avengers weren't in control of the ship anymore, and everything went blank.
Darkness now ate through them.
oOo
"If you could speak your mind, Dr. Selvig, then that would be nice." Fury stated.
"It's strange, downright absurd. I had to get up here to tell you in person. The air down there was getting thicker and harder to breathe in. None of us could go near it."
"Thick air?" Tony muttered curiously.
"What is wrong, I do not understand." Thor stared. "Nobody is taking hold of the tesseract."
"She's behaving horribly this time around, Thor. It's strange, not like before. It's different."
"Are you sure?" Fury questioned. "We had the area secured."
"Is it Loki?" Steve asked.
"No, it's not him." Agent Hill showed them footage of Loki. "We have him on full security lock down."
"What is he doing?" Thor wondered.
"He's asleep." Clint pointed out.
The screen popped out in front of all of them, it showed Loki inside his cell, lying on the bed. His eyes shut tight and his breathing erratic. Nobody questioned Loki's tiredness as they got back to the real situation.
Erik stood there, completely off his game.
The other Agents were dismissed.
"Did you check it?" Bruce asked. "Any Gamma radiation or tampering that it's emitting?"
"I suppose. The tesseract isn't shutting down." He tried his best to explain. "It's giving outbursts of energy, thickening the air. Your Agents locked the lab for the time being, to clear it out. It's not opening a portal. That much I can assure you."
"Doors always open." Clint spoke out. "You sure nobody is trying to get in like last time."
"Positive. She's reacting badly, behaving in the worst of conditions. She doesn't want to be touched. They can't trace any abnormalities at all or interference. It's just reacting."
"To what exactly is she reacting about?" Natasha pondered.
"That's just it, we don't know." Erik shrugged. "It's a ghostly reaction. It's there but it's not."
"Director Fury."
One of the Agents called his attention and pattered out a screen on their table.
The Avengers looked at it with curiosity and it showed energy readings all around the Helicarrier and the abnormality of its reaction that surrounded it.
"What is this Agent Park?"
"Fluctuations from the Helicarrier, Sir." The man said. "We can't find the source, it's interrupting our signals and channeling out our readings. We can't explain it."
"Is the tesseract causing this?" Tony asked in panic.
"Sir!" Agent Sitwell shouted. "Energy readings are spiking!"
"Find the source." Agent Hill commanded. "I want all who aren't manning the ship to search the entire area and find out where the energy is coming from."
"Negative." Sitwell continued.
"What are you talking about? I gave you an order." Hill walked up to him to see what was going on. "What is this?"
"That's just it." Sitwell sighed. "Our systems aren't active but they're working fine. It's blacking out and rebooting itself but we're still on the air."
"Hill, Sitwell, what the hell is happening over there?"
"No clue, Sir." Hill said. "No damage to the system but it's being interrupted."
"We're working on firewalls to counter it." Sitwell spoke up.
"I can't get Jarvis to get a reading." Tony pressed his eyebrows together as he held the Stark phone in one hand. He wanted to throw it so badly for being useless. "What's going on?"
"Director Fury, power is down on level 13, continuing through levels 15 and 18."
"Level 13." Natasha stood up. "That's where Loki is."
"Power back online!" Hill said. "The fluctuations are continuing to interrupt the system; all doors will remain closed and intact! No security threats and prisoner is still caged. I don't think he's doing this."
"Why is this happening so suddenly?" Clint gritted his teeth.
"I don't understand." Thor mumbled absently.
"The tesseract must be reacting to it." Erik mentioned. "It's not her."
"In front of us!"
Everyone turned to the window in front.
A huge wormhole appeared out in the open as it began to suck them all in. Fury immediately manned his station and began calling out orders to move the ship. The Avengers were useless at this point and there was nothing they could do, but watch.
The whole Helicarrier shook like an earthquake, causing everyone inside to hold onto dear life as they got sucked slowly into it.
"Is it just me, or is that a black hole?" Tony breathed out. "I'm going insane."
"It's not just you, Stark." Natasha's eyes widened.
"The Einstein Rosen Bridge?" Erik muttered incoherently. "It's a doorway to another end of space. Two points in space, creates a pathway."
"You don't think this is a traversable wormhole, do you?" Bruce said as they clung to the table.
"If so, it can be crossed from both sides."
"I do not like this, my friends!" Thor had let Mjolnir take his weight.
"Dr. Banner?" Steve said, holding onto the metal railing. "How are you holding up?"
"I won't Hulk out." Bruce muttered, watching the scene unfold. "I can't believe it, a wormhole."
"Brace yourselves!" Fury shouted.
Before they knew it, the darkness had swallowed them whole.
