Alex knew she only had twenty seconds. Twenty seconds of insane courage. This was a way of life for her. Her life was based on small moments where logic goes out the window and following that gut kicked in. 20 seconds lead her to meeting her dead beat dad, to then find out he was a washed up musician who was not worth being in her life. Twenty seconds was all that it took for her to convince herself that becoming an international drug dealer was the perfect fit for her.

This situation would be treated no different.

On a cold, winter evening at Tulley O'Riley's bar right off campus from Smith College, she walked in. Those blonde luscious locks came in to her sight, and she just knew. Alex considered starting with a sarcastic comment referencing her look to Laura Ingalls, but twenty seconds come and go so she better go in for the kill. She knew those twenty seconds was going to be another life changer. The beautiful blonde ordered a margarita for herself and Alex stalked to her, going in for the win.

20

"It's a little cold to be drinking a margarita," Alex began. Shit that opener blew; she needed to zone in and strike with perfect accuracy.

18

"Let's see this," she picked up her resume.

17

"Steve's Greek Cuisine, La Gran Fermange, bullshit, bullshit. Who gave you a lesson in fudging resumes anyways?" Fuck time was going way too quick for this bullshit; she needed to seal her fate.

14

Her first words finally came out of her angelic mouth "Do you work here?"

"Are you fucking kidding me?" Fuck this shit, this needed to be done.

10

"Piper Chapman, my name is Alex Vause is there anything I need to know about you?"

"Hmm what do you do Alex?" Sneaky girl got around the question, making those twenty seconds the most challenging in Alex's life.

8

"I am a leader in the international drug cartel."

She laughed, not knowing the words that came out of her mouth were true.

5

She needed to just take the leap of faith.

"Look, I only have five more seconds here, so here it is, don't have that drink, leave with me? I don't know what it is about you, but I have this need to get to know you."

Piper looked at her in confusion, not knowing why there was time a constraint, but something about this brunette in black rimmed glasses made her want to go anywhere.

0

"Okay," Piper responded.

Twenty seconds stood between Alex and her lifetime of what ifs, those what ifs turned into maybes.

And those maybes turned into life changing.
