All Burned Out

Onboard JLA Jetray 15

Returning from a mission, Nightwing and Firestar ran into a big snowstorm that forced their plan into an immediate crash landing. The crash froze the instruments of the plane. Within moments Firestar woke up and surveyed what was going on with the Jet. The first thing she noticed was the frigid temperature Star threw up a fire wall around her in order for her to stay warm. Because if she got cold she wouldn't survive long, the next thing that she noticed that Nightwing was badly wounded. Firestar tried to call for help, but like the jet's instruments both of their earpieces was frozen solid and when Star tried to melt the water around the communications device effectively shorting it out. So she immediately abandons that endeavor and attended to Nightwing, she sterilized as well as cauterized his wounds.

Once that was done Firestar fashioned a sled from the wreckage of the ship and after placing Nightwing on it. Pushing the sled along she made it as quickly as she could to civilization in order to give Nightwing the required medical attention he needed. Finally, she arrived on a farm and quickly knew whose it was she pushed Nightwing as close to the door as possible. Knocking on the door and when the door opened Star was met with a nice older woman.

"Mrs. Kent, my name is Firestar would mind if my teammate and I rest here for a bit. My partner's hurt and our earpieces are destroyed"

"Of course, I'll contact my son and let him know that you are here." Once the two women made sure that Nightwing is comfortable, before Mrs. Kent went to the kitchen where she contacted her son and informed him about what had happened. In less time than it takes to press a button Superman arrived and found the two heroes in the living room. Nightwing was on the couch and Firestar laid by the fire she had started in the hearth.

"Mom, I'm going to go and check out the crash site, do you mind if the two of them remain here for a bit longer."

"Not at all" Superman checked out the crash site and within the hour he was back home with Batman by his and the two of them took the two heroes back up to the Watchtower.

Almost a Week Later

Nightwing awoke from a long night sleep."MMuhum" he looked to his right and sees something he really wishes he wasn't seeing. "Firestar" he screamed out, and moved very quickly towards Firestar, but stopped as a wave of pain crashed upon him.

Batman was just about to check on his ward when she heard her scream, and picked up the pace. As soon he came to his side he saw that Nightwing was really sweaty and very hot to the touch. Nightwing was still awake, but he was breathing hard.

"What happened to Firestar?"

"She had to go on another mission while you were still recovering. During the mission she was attacked by her archenemy Dr. Ice Castle. Star called for help as soon as she could as she was having trouble defeating him. Just as help arrived Firestar was just hit by a very powerful beam of ice. Dr. Ice Castle was taken down and Firestar was taken back here for medical attention and its been two days since then and she hasn't woken up yet.

Three Months Later

The fire heroine stirred slightly and Wonder Woman noticed it and smiled seeing it as a good sign that Star was waking up. Another few days past before Firestar fully woke up. Opening her eyes she was greeted with all of the heroes that had watched over her during her recovery.

Star smiled at those who were gathered around here she tried to get up, but her wounds protested loudly to her moving. She ignored them showing no facial expression she sat up in bed with Nightwing sitting beside her giving her someone to lean on.

After every hero left the room except for Nightwing, Firestar collapsed in deep pain that she had hidden from the rest of the heroes. Nightwing helped her back into a laying position and held her hand comforting her until she went to sleep.

Five Weeks Later

Firestar was getting better all the time and now she was able to be released from the medical bay, but she had to take it easy for a while until her leg healed. Though this wasn't the thing the Justice League worried about after that blast from Dr. Ice Castle Star no longer had her powers. Firestar was an alien and she and her people couldn't survive long without their inner fire not burning.

Everyone worked super hard in finding a cure, but they all came to the same conclusions. But before they informed Firestar and Nightwing they contacted Firestar's home world and spoke with the elders. Once they were absolutely sure that this was the only way they informed the duo.

"To keep Firestar alive she …"

"I have to be thrown into a volcano by one who loves me unconditionally." Firestar interrupts Batman. "I'm asking if you'll do it for me."

"I will." Nightwing resounded almost in tears.

"We must go now" They started walking toward the hanger when Firestar faltered and fell to the ground.

"It's happening." Star could barely speak after she almost fell to the ground, but thankfully Nightwing caught her and ran with her and Batman on his tail to the hangers.

Trial by Fire

Very soon the three of them had arrived over an active volcano Night wing was hoisted down carrying Firestar in his arms. He landed on the edge of the mouth of the volcano there he throws Firestar to the lava and watches as her body sinks into the lava.

"No, we were too late." At that moment the volcano erupts and mortally wounds Nightwing. As we wallows in his pain, he soon feels the warmth of someone coming close to him. He looks up to see Firestar, but no longer looking pale and almost lifeless as he had last seen her. Standing above him was the new and improved Firestar newly sparked and as pretty as ever. She placed a fiery hand over Nightwing's wounds and healed them. Then together they returned to the jet and Batman took the three of them back to the Watchtower. During the duration of the fight back Firestar's new power over fire came under her control. But from that day on her eyes remained a fiery orange color. The entire Justice League rejoiced upon their return in having Firestar back.
