Dream A Little Dream Of Me

"This isn't going to go well is it?" Janet asked as she sat down on an empty chair in Hammond's office.

"No," he sighed as he locked his fingers together on top of his desk.

"They're going to be in a lot of trouble, aren't they?" she asked with a regretful sigh.

"Yes," he said regretfully. "If things keep going on the way they are."

"I don't suppose the 'alien influence' excuse is going to work this time?"

"I'm afraid it won't last long enough. They aren't willing to accept reality. Either is Doctor Jackson to a certain extent. Teal'c is the only one who seems to have accepted that it was a dream."

"They were asleep the longest," Janet agreed, looking down at her hands.

"And two children were involved. Jack's already lost one. He won't be willing to accept he's lost another two. Even if they are only in his head."

"I can't see Sam letting go of that easily either," she ran a hand over her face. She knew how good Sam was with Cassie and how amazing she would be with her own.

Sam ran a loving hand over her husbands face. She smiled slightly as he leaned into her touch. His eyes fluttered open as he covered her hand with his.

"Hey," he said before turning so he could kiss the palm of her hand.

"Hey yourself," she replied. She placed her hands on his shoulders and straddled his hips.

"You're going to be the death of me woman," he said as a wicked grin appeared on his face. "Although this would be a good way to go."

"I've been thinking," she said.

"There's a shocker," he replied as he held her wrists and tried to pull her down to his level.

"I'm being serious," she told him, her voice begging him to listen.

"Okay," he sighed as he let go of her wrists. "What?"

"The date," she suggested.

"What about it?"

"We check it. On everything. Maybe it'll help finding out the truth."

"What if they were telling us the truth? What if it all was just a dream?"

"I don't know," she whispered and looked down at his naked chest.

"I don't want it to be a dream," he told her, his voice firm.

"Either do I."

They eventually got out of bed, some hours later, after making love again - knowing that it could be the last time they did. It was slow and filled with love and passion. They held each other longer and tighter. Tears streamed from Sam's eyes. She knew that when they got out of bed that things could, and possibly would, change. She knew that as soon as she looked at the date on various things that her world could be turned upside down. She knew she wasn't ready to find out that her children were a dream.

They dressed slowly. They wanted to take their time. But they were torn. They wanted to find their precious son.

Sam's heart clenched at the thought of the little boy. He was etched deeply into her heart and soul. She could see him as clearly as if he were standing in front of her, with his mischievous grin plastered onto his angelic little face. His blue eyes would sparkle with laughter and his blonde hair was soft and moving freely.

"I don't want to do this either," he said as he held her hand tightly in his. "But we need to know."

Sam nodded and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. It was time.

"Let's find out."

They walked hand in hand through the house, their fingers interlinked. They had agreed that if the date wasn't what the expected they would grieve for a while and then keep themselves at a distance. Neither of them knew if it would work. They doubted it would. How did you just let go of someone that you love?

Jack hated the thought of being her Commanding Officer. He refused to admit it, but deep down, he knew it was probably true.

Janet ran a hand through her hair. She could feel her headache coming back with a vengeance. She hated that planet and she especially hated that flower.

For the moment the lives of four people had been ruined by a strange flower.

She knew dreams were powerful. She knew that emotions could fuel dreams.

She ran a hand over her face. Teal'c had dreamed of the Goa'uld being defeated - something that they all wanted.

Daniel had been reunited with his wife. Something he had desperately wanted since she had been taken. The whole reason he had joined the program was so he could get her back. Even though they hadn't been able to get her back safe, he had stayed with the team and continued to fight the enemy in her memory.

Jack and Sam had dreamed of a life together. A life with a young family. She knew the Colonel had lost his son. She knew that he would do anything to get him back. She knew how good he was with kids. He was a big kid himself after all.

She knew that Sam craved something more. A new challenge. Motherhood would give her that challenge. Trouble was, she wasn't sure if Sam realised that was what she wanted. Not until she had it, and it had been ripped from her in a cruel way.

Janet lay her head on her arms. She knew it was going to be a long and tough road.

Jack nervously switched on his cellphone while Sam put on the TV. Before the date came up on either device he turned and held onto her tightly.

"I'm never going to let us go. Never," he whispered into her ear.

"Either will I. Regardless of what happens, my time with you and George and our little bump has been the happiest time of my life."

They pulled away from each other then. They smiled awkwardly and turned their attention to the cellphone in Jack's hand. July 2000.

The TV told them the same.

All the evidence was piling up around her. No child's bedroom. No toys. No photo's. No evidence at all that she was married to or living with her husband. Not even a ring on her finger.

Sam felt her world crumble around her. She felt her legs give out from under her.
