Chapter 2: Hoenn
HAHA! I'm back. After watching zombie movies and TV shows, reading zombie books like World War Z, and playing too much Left 4 Dead and Black Ops 2 Zombies, I'm fresh with ideas. So here's chapter 2!
He could still smell the smoke that puffed into the sky and hear the relentless moaning of the undead. Max held his Remington 870 MCS tightly, knowing that they can get inside the family's Pokémon gym at any moment. He was not prepared for the first few days of the impending apocalypse now called Dead Winter. Max couldn't shake off the memory of his action taken at the beginning of the outbreak.
-Flashback-
The screams filled the air as the citizens of Petalburg City were caught and killed by Necros, those infected with Necromancer's virus. May looked outside the window holding the curtain to her left. People ran screaming for help close or at a distance, they couldn't tell. "Everything has gone down pretty fast," she said with a worried tone. "Think we'll get any help?"
"Doubt it," said Max pessimistically. "Three other countries have declared a state of emergency. Even our own government is in a state of emergency." May looked down in worry. Caroline put her hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. If we stay put, we will be able to make out of this."
"You're right Mom." replied May refreshed. All of a sudden, a loud thump was heard at the back door. "W-what was that?" stammered May. "I'll go check." volunteered Max in a whisper. He slowly approached the door in a crouch, when: *boom*. A humanoid figure entered through the back. It spun its head to the right without a response. It then shifted its head to find the family in the living room. It gave a loud scream and charged at the startled Max on the floor.
With his eyes filled with terror, Max speedily pushed himself backwards towards the family. The humanoid ran at the family, screaming when Norman hit it with a monkey wrench. "Run. NOW!" he yelled. The individual got up again and continued its charge. Norman was grabbed from behind and bit him in the side of the neck.
Max and May's eyes were filled with shock. "Dad!" they screamed. Norman collapsed on the floor. Max quickly grabbed the wrench as the infected made his attack. Max, with all his strength, hit the infected, breaking its skull. With tears in his eyes, Max kept hitting the infected man.
With Max finally finished, Norman called him over. "Max." he said. "You know what that illness does. Please, before I turn, finish me off." Max was taken aback due to what he just heard. "No Dad. No I can't do it!"
"Max! Listen to me. You don't want me to become one of them do you?" Norman pleaded. "Please, don't allow me to be one of them." May began to give tears along with Caroline. Max clutched the wrench tightly. "Alright." He said sadly. He walked up to where he was lying down at. "Remember Max, when I'm not in the house…" Norman started. "I'm the man of the house." Said Max with a sad smile. He lifted up the wrench and brought it down.
-End of flashback-
Tears streamed down Max's face as he replayed the memory. He just couldn't find a way to get rid of it. And it has been a month since Dead Winter began. He jumped at the feeling of a hand on his shoulder. "Hey." said May warmly. "Hey." He responded as he wiped the tears off his face. "Remembering what happened?" she asked. Max nodded. "That was a hard thing to do, but it's better than seeing him suffer as a Necro." "That's true. But it's those kinds of decisions that help you grow up." explained May. "But don't worry. Maybe this will all be over soon."
Max stood up and clenched his fist. "Can't you see?" he spoke through gritted teeth. "See what?" asked a confused May. "This is the end. Many people have realized it but you haven't? This is the end May! Nothing can and will stop it! No matter how hard the effort is, we won't come out of this alive!" Max blurted out. He jumped off the wall and headed indoors. "Why did it have to be Max?" May said to herself.
-Indoors-
Many citizens taking shelter at the gym were getting ready for a scouting mission for supplies, specially medical supplies. "When are you guys leaving?" Max asked from behind. "We leave in ten." responded one of the trainers. "Ten what?" Max asked.
"Minutes."
"Alright count me in."
"You sure you want to come along? These things come in packs"
"I need to distract myself." Said Max as he stepped on the truck. "Alright then." Max look through the shotgun shells and bag taking what he needed. Flashlight, extra batteries, canned food, extra ammo, and bottled water.
"Ready to go kid?" said a tall teen. "Trust me." Max responded as he got up on the truck. The gates opened and the engines started. And the fifth expedition outside the fortress begins.
-Somewhere inside the wall-
May looked everywhere for him. A certain green haired teen that now resided inside the gym walls. "Drew!" she called out "May! I mean… May." Drew responded coolly. No what Drew was thinking was not on May's mind. "Have you seen Max?" she asked. "Hmm… actually I think he left with the scouting party." He responded. "No. You're kidding!" May said in despair. "NO. I saw him exit the gates today." Drew said. May screamed and dropped to her knees.
Well here it ends for this chapter. Not my best, but I hope it satisfied. Don't worry I won't take as long as this one did. So you can expect sooner updates. Have a good day/night. Flames will be ignored.
