Warmth
Another battle was over.
They had won against the Titans once more, yet, their loss made the victory a bitter one.
Of the hundred and fifty men sent out, more than half had died in the battle, and the remaining injured. Even the elites of the Scouting Legion were not spared. While they had managed to keep their lives, it was, however, not without sacrifice. The Scouting Legion's manpower would be drained while the injured ones recuperated and recovered.
The rain that fell over the town was rather fitting, really.
Eren Yeager stood quietly, emerald orbs taking in all that was around him. He watched as men pulled themselves off the battlefield, trudging off to help the injured off to safety. It was like the Battle of Trost―there was no time to mourn, even if one sees their comrade's torn bodies, their blood splattered cruelly on the buildings and grounds. Eren knew he should be going to help―in a twisted way, he was one of the lucky ones; with his Titan's regenerative powers, he would be fine in a matter of hours―yet, he simply stood there, watching wordlessly.
A sudden pressure on his shoulder triggered his instincts as large green eyes turned slowly to said shoulder.
"…Brat."
Eren made a noise of acknowledgement, slightly basking in the human warmth of Lance Corporal Rivaille, the man in charge of his life.
"Be useful and keep me dry." Rivaille ordered. Eren made another noise―"Aren't you already wet, Corporal?"―and the squad leader shot him a murderous glare. "Are you disobeying orders, Yeager?"
If Eren could roll his eyes in his Titan form, he was certain he would have, but since he couldn't (or rather, he didn't want to look weirder or scarier than he already was), the titan shifter simply raised a hand silently, lifting it to his head as it formed a shelter of sorts for Rivaille. The two fell into a comfortable silence, watching as the last of the defeated Titans evaporate into steam and crumbling bones. Never once did they let their guards down as they stood guard to the evacuating men. Only when the Titans were all gone, and almost all of the men had retreated back over the wall, did Rivaille finally get off Eren's shoulder, leaping gracefully onto the nearest roof. Eren took that as a cue to shift back into his human and did so.
"Hurry up or I'll leave you behind." Rivaille snapped.
Eren nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips for reasons he cannot fathom, "Yes, Corporal."
A/N: So, a drabble based on this pic I saw, which was basically Rivaille sitting on Titan!Eren's shoulder in the rain. And this is my first SnK fic! Turned out to be a pretty pointless drabble and the title doesn't really have anything to do with the drabble itself... Mah. That's all for this time! Thanks for reading as always. Ciao ciao~
