.
This was not the first or even second time he had been in a titans presence—though this titan was now dissolving on the ground with the all too familiar wound on its neck—and he knew it would not be the last.
He did wonder if his heart would ever stop pounding.
If the irrational, pausing fear would go away.
If...if his body would top shaking.
He was weak, he knew this. It was not something he could ever fully change, but if he tried his best perhaps those around him would stop dying for him. He had thought that, believed it even, for the longest time.
Now?
He stared at the blood on his hands.
On his jacket.
On his gear.
On the ground around him.
The trail led to where Eren was screaming with pain, rage and utter heartbreak for his adoptive sister—not unlike himself only a few weeks before he realized—as he cradled what was left of Mikasa in his arms.
He felt the loss keenly as well...only..
Armin knew that if the situation were different, and it was Eren in his arms, he would not be able to utter another word much less scream. He had already lost him once, but to do so again...for good?
He stumbled over to Eren and threw his arms around him. Mikasa had been like a sister to him too and her death was more than regrettable. But the wound would heal in time.
Armin held on tighter, burying his face in Eren shoulder.
The wound Eren would create, would consume him.
