Last Chapter

"Say Mister, would you mind if I walked with you to town, I kinda got lost." The blond said shyly, rubbing the back of his head while fiddling in the dirt with his shoeless foot. Kakashi raised an eyebrow. I'm not exactly the best guide…but I guess I can't leave him out here.

"Sure, I could use the company." Kakashi said with a smile, rubbing affectionately on the boy's head. His height only making it to his bellybutton. Even if he was a tall man, the boy was short.

"Cool!" The scared boy grasped tightly to his sleeve, his side all but glued to the boy in an instant. His eyes watching the trees as they began walking. Can't get me now! Ha!

"So where are you from Mister. You smell like wet dirt, but you look like a..." The disheveled youth said, his reasoning slowing down as he reached for a word that best described the suited man.

"Like a businessman?" Kakashi asked with a laugh, watching as the boy scrunched up his face and pursed his lips.

"No...like a zombie." The boy nodded his head in a proud manner, satisfied with his deducing. Kakashi laughed as he looked down at his tattered and stained clothes.

"I guess you could say I am."

"Woah, really! I've never met a zombie before!" The boy grabbed onto Kakashi's am and gave it a few playful tugs. "Do your limbs pop off?!"

"Well, I'm not actually a zombie, I just feel like one." Kakashi ran a hand through his silver hair, pulling out a small twig and leaf. "I fell into the river yesterday, nearly drown too."

"That explains your smell! Man you stink!" The boy grabbed at his nose and pinched it close, sticking his tongue out to represent his distaste to the businessman's odor.

"I figured I did." Kakashi sighed, pushing his tired legs to walk a little faster through the forest. The wind and sun were calm today, and the scenery was beautiful, but the bugs were starting to bother him immensely. Flies and mosquitoes flew all around the two, hoping from limb to limb and even into there ears and eyes. Kakashi swatted at a bunch of them, but the boy just seemed to ignore them. He must be used to them by now, lucky kid.

"So why are you here, Mister?" The boy dropped Kakashi's arm, choosing to focus on his eyes instead.

"I had to drop off the deed to the builders at the top of the hill so they could start building a resort here. So my job is done now and I get to go home." Kakashi smiled at the boy, only to frown at the sad face he was making.

"A...resort? You mean they're going to tear down the forest?" The child's voice was small, but had a touch of anger.

"Well, not exactly. Most of the forest will be kept, only a few lots will be cleared for the hotel, a parking lot, pools, maybe a sauna or two, but not the whole place, that would ruin the scenery." Kakashi said, his sore feet groaning as he slammed his foot into a large root.

"They can't do that! We need this forest! This is our home!" The boy whipped around, hot on his feet as he glared at Kakashi.

"Well, in a way this helps out the village here a lot. It increases tourism and brings in a whole new income. This could mean that your village could grow into a prosperous town." Kakashi tried to explain, but the kid just seemed to get angrier the more he spoke.

"You don't get it! We don't want more people hear!" The boy growled, a deep thrum that resonated from the back of his throat. Kakashi raised an eyebrow.

"This wasn't a corporate decision. This was brought to us by your village leader, and it was put to a vote. Your village wanted this resort." Kakashi tried, feeling a bit sorry for the kid, who seemed to be bubbling with anger and sadness.

Crunch

Kakashi looked around the path, looking for the source of the sound. The boy's head snapped to the left, his eyes narrowing.

"Well I don't care. I'm leaving this mud pit!" The boy said loudly, a grin splitting across his face, even if it seem a bit strained, it seemed real.

Kakashi almost asked where the boy planned on going, but a dreadful feeling crept up in his stomach. He could feel a presence somewhere. The hairs on the back of his neck were standing up as straight as the rest of his head. Once again Kakashi went to walk faster down the path. Wanting nothing more than to get on an airplane and fly home.

Ring ring ring ring

Kakashi jumped at the noise, but relaxed as he remembered it was his phone. The boy next to him reacted much more violently, he back up a few feet, crouched in a fighting position. Kakashi inwardly laughed at the kid as he pulled the cell phone out of his pocket and clicked the button.

"Are you on the plane yet?" Iruka asked quickly.

"Hello, may I ask who is calling?" Kakashi feigned disinterest, with a smile on his face.

"Haha very funny." Iruka rolled his eyes, a small smile on his face as he imagined how his boyfriend must look.

"Hmmm I don't think I know who this is? Maybe I should hang up." Kakashi pretended, raising an eyebrow as the blonde boy beside him stared at him with wide eyes.

"Okay Kakashi cut it out. Are you on the plane or not." Iruka groaned.

"Oh Iruka, is that you!" Kakashi laughed, using his free hand to swat away the small curious hands trying to grab his cell phone.

"Come on Kakashi, I'm being serious." Iruka rubbed at his forehead.

"Mister! Mister! Mister! What is that!? Can I see it!?" The boy jumped at the phone, desperately trying to grab at the device.

"Not now, Kid." Kakashi stopped walking and turned his back toward the jumping boy.

"Who's that?" Iruka asked.

"Just a kid. Anyway I'm almost on the plane. I should be home by tomorrow morning." Kakashi said, looking over to see the boy sitting with his legs and arms crossed on the ground and pouting.

"Okay. Well I'll be at work until five, so my phone will be off for a while." Iruka said, walking out of his house and locking the door behind him.

"Okay. I will text message you when I get off the plane then." Kakashi sighed as the boy was once again trying to grab the phone. This time he lifted his foot up and used it to keep the boy at bay.

"Okay, love you." Iruka sighed, starting his car and backing out of the drive way.

"Love you too~!" Kakashi cooed, snapping his phone shut and stuffing it back into his pocket.

"Hehehe!" The boy giggled underneath the taller man's shoe. Kakashi lifted the foot, a question on his face.

"What?"

"Hehehe your such a kiss-up, man!" The boy fell back into a laugh, a loud and obnoxious bellow that caused his lungs to fully contract.

"I'm not a kiss-up, this is just how you act with your significant other." Kakashi rolled his eyes and started his walk down the path once again.

"Man you don't even know! She has you on your back!" The boy leaped back up and trotted after the dirt covered business man.

"Well I don't know about that. I'd say I have him on his back most of the time." Kakashi laughed, cracking a smile as he saw the small kid didn't understand what he was saying.

"Pervert." The boy spat. Causing Kakashi to almost trip.

"Ahaha so you understood that, huh?" The silver haired man rubbed at his head.

Crack, snap, snap, snap

The blonde haired boy's head shot up, blue eyes widening. Kakashi was just about to ask what it was, when the boy grabbed his sleeve and started pulling him faster through the forest.

"Woah! Hey what's the rush?" Kakashi watched as the light between the trees became more and more prominent.

The boy ignored his questions in favor of running faster, his head whipping back and forth.

Snap, snap, snap, snap

"Dammit!" The boy growled, pulling on Kakashi's sleeve with even more force.

The man grunted as a few low hanging branches smacked into his face, his eyes focused on the ground as he came into contact with a few rocks and roots that almost took the two of them down.

"Grrrrr" Snap, snap

"Arrrrrr" Crunch, snap

"Hrrrrrr" Snap, ruffle

"Gahhhhh"Snap, crunch, crunch

"Crap! Crap! Crap!" The boy squealed, his small legs moving as fast as he could while pulling the confused man with him.

Kakashi didn't have to be told to run anymore, he could hear why. The sound of running animals could be heard behind them, five or ten or twenty, he didn't know. But they were fast and gaining ground even faster. Kakashi doubted they were going to make it. And at several points he was just waiting for the beasts to jump out and attack.

But the blonde in front of him just kept running, never looking back, and never stopping. After what felt like only minutes, they reached the end of the forest.

Kakashi looked back quickly, his eyes connecting to seven pairs of angry wolf eyes. Oh shit!

But then they were in the light, no trees, and the growls and the stomping and snapping of chasing wolves were gone.

"Haha! Told them I was gonna get out one day! Hahahaha!" The boy flopped down into the dirt and stared up at the sun.

"Wow, well this has been one hell of a day." Kakashi sat down on the dirt next to the grinning blonde, taking a few breathes, his eyes watching the forest line for any of the vicious wolves.

"Ah don't worry about them, bunch of old farts, they can't leave even if they wanted to." The boy seemed a bit bitter as he said this. His eyes looking straight at the sun.
