Chapter 20

Katie groaned as she woke up. She immediately knew that something was wrong. Her eyes felt strange and something was holding the lids down. She reached up to touch her eyes, but someone grabbed her hand.

"She's awake," the person called. "You're ok, you're at Deaton's."

"I... who are you," she asked.

"Its... its Jackson."

Katie jerked away from him and rolled. She hit the floor with a thud and scrambled to her feet. She backed away from him, screaming when she bumped into someone.

"You should be resting," Deaton said as he held onto her arm. "How are you feeling?"

"What the hell is he doing here," she demanded. She struggled against Deaton trying to get away from him and Jackson. "Where are Isaac and Derek?"

"He wanted to make sure you were ok, we saved him," Derek explained. "Do you remember what happened?"

Katie tried to remember, but she couldn't find the memory. She shook her head, letting Derek take her hand and lead her forward. He helped her sit back on a cold, hard surface.

"While you were fighting Jackson, his claws dug into your eyes. They are healing, but because of the injury it will take time," Deaton explained.

"He blinded me, I'm blind now," Katie said with a nervous tremor in her voice.

"We don't know for sure. I'm fairly certain that you will regain your sight."

"Fairly certain and certain are not the same thing," she pointed out.

"I know, I wish I could be more reassuring but there is no way to know for sure. The good news, is that with your heightened senses you should be ok until your sight returns," Deaton replied.

"I'm a teenage werewolf with no eyesight! How is that ok," she shouted. "Wait, where is Isaac? Is he ok?"

"He's fine, this is actually the first time he left your side since we got you here," Derek explained.

"So you left me with the psychotic lizard man?"

"Actually, I'm a werewolf now too," Jackson replied.

"Good for you douche bag! I'm fucking blind," Katie cried. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"His parents are sending him to London soon. He needs to learn how to control the shift before he goes. So he's with us for now," Derek explained.

"Are you kidding? Please tell me you are joking! After everything he's done, killing Isaac's dad, almost killing all of us, you are going to let him in the pack! Derek, he blinded me! I can't see because of him," Katie shouted.

"You will get your eyesight back, it will just take some time! You need to calm down, he needs our help and he is my responsibility," Derek snapped.

"You weren't the one that turned him into a psychotic killing machine!"

"Actually, I am. I'm the one that bit him, so what happened to him is my fault. I have to help him."

Katie sighed and shook her head. She wished she could see, she just wanted to be able to see, so she could walk out of that room on her own. She was stuck though, at someone elses mercy, and there was no telling how long she would be like this.

"Where is Isaac," she asked again.

"He's at the loft, we can't stay at the house, so I got us a loft. You guys are going to stay with me since neither of you has a legal guardian," Derek explained. "Can she travel or do you need to keep her here?"

"So long as she takes it easy, there's no reason why she can't leave. You'll need to change the bandages on her eyes every six hours, I'll give you some eyedrops that will help with the healing process," Deaton replied. "Katie, your vision will come back slowly over the next week or so. It won't happen all at once, so it will be best to keep your eyes covered as much as possible. Don't try to force anything to happen, you could do more harm than good."

"You trying being a blind werewolf and see how well those directions take," she snapped as she slid back off the counter. She felt someone take hold of her arm and she flinched away from them. "Don't touch me. I can do it my myself."

"Really because you are about to walk into a wall," Derek shot back. "Just take my arm and let me help you."

Katie let out a groan of frustration before taking his arm and letting him lead her out of the office. He carefully loaded her into the car, buckling her seatbelt for her. She leaned her head back as she listened to him talk to Jackson.

"I don't want him at the loft," she shouted, turning her head in their direction. She knew Derek would have heard her just fine, but she wanted to make her frustration known. She heaved a sigh as Derek climbed in the car as well.

"He didn't mean for this to happen," Derek said gently.

"I don't give a shit what he meant to happen. I'm blind!"

"I think you are being overdramatic."

"Whatever you say, sourwolf."

"Jesus, not you too," Derek cried in frustration. "Stiles calls me that."

"Well it works," she snapped. She drew in a deep breath, forcing herself to relax into the seat. It didn't take for them to get to the loft. She tried her best to use her other senses, but she felt completely lost without her eyesight.

Derek threw open the door to the loft and led Katie inside. "So this is the main room, the kitchen, living room, whatever. It's pretty big, my room is down here, and you and Isaac are upstairs, but I guess you'll be staying down here until...," he trailed off and sighed. "I'm sorry that this happened to you."

"At least he didn't kill me," she muttered as she sighed. She pushed a hand through her hair as she heard footsteps sounding overhead. She listened as Isaac thundered down the stairs and hurried toward her.

"You're back! God, I'm happy to see you! How are you feeling," he said as he swept her into a hug. She leaned into him, breathing in his scent. She didn't know what it was about him, but just being near him was incredibly soothing. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, letting him lift her off her feet.

"Fine, just wish I could see."

"You'll get your sight back soon. You'll see."

"I'm going to let that slide," Katie shot back as she leaned away from him. Isaac kept his arms around her as he set her down. He had barely slept since she'd gotten hurt. This was the first time that he had been home since the fight. Of course she'd woken up while he hadn't been there.

"How do you feel? I mean besides the eyes," Isaac asked.

"Don't really have an answer for that right now."

Isaac stepped back from her and took her hand leading her into Derek's room. She'd be staying in there until she got her sight back. "Ok, hands out," Isaac said as he moved behind her. He put his hands on her waist and nudged her forward. Katie drew in a deep breath and reached foward, resting her hands on the doorframe.

"You have to use your other senses now," Derek said from further behind them. "Let your sense of smell, hearing, and touch, guide you."

Katie drew in another breath, before taking a few steps forward. Isaac kept his hands on her hips to keep her from walking into anything. Her footsteps echoed off the high ceiling, and she was able to figure out where the walls were.

"Why isn't there any other furniture in here? I mean, where's the bed," Katie said before stumbling into it. Isaac kept her from falling, wrapping his arm around her waist. She leaned into him for a moment, she turned her head to the side letting it rest against his shoulder. Isaac could feel her shaking and pulled her closer.

"I don't know if I can do this," Katie whispered. "I just want to be able to see."

Isaac let go of her and stepped around her. He sat down on the bed and eased her down next to him. "I know you do, and you will, but right now, you can't and you have to deal with that until you can see again."

Katie rested her head on his shoulder, and Isaac wrapped his arm around her waist. "Will you stay with me?"

"Of course."

Isaac shifted on the bed and moved up toward the headboard. He guided her up next to him, and they laid down next to one another. Katie rolled over and rested her head on his chest, her fingers clutching his t-shirt. Isaac slipped his arm around her, lacing his fingers in her hair. Derek peered into the room and shook his head when he saw them. They needed to come clean about how they felt about one another.
