Time's up

A/N:- So this one is the last chapter. Enjoy.

Dreams are in italics

Everything was back to normal, he was once again bound to his favourite slightly annoying demon. The ring shone on his finger, even though there was no light reflected. He had yet to control his incubus half, his tail was now a permanent feature and Izaya's new favourite play toy, since the damn thing was so sensitive. "Shizu-chan. Do you want anything to eat?" He had yet to find human food he could eat any more. His stomach grumbled, showing that he was hungry.

Making his way over to Izaya, he pressed their lips together, the older demon's tongue wrapping against his, until he was slammed against the side, his ass lifted, so he was sitting on the counter. It was wet messy and definitely not enough. Once they broke apart, he wiped the line of saliva away. "Thanks for the meal." His mate grinned. "That's only the starter, Shizu-chan. We have to make sure you're properly fed." Shizuo grinned, his tail swishing and his eyes changing to caramel. No! I don't want to die! The blond froze at the words playing in his head. "Shizu-chan?" Shaking his head, he smiled. Everything else could wait.

After climbing into bed, he lay next to Izaya, eyes wide open. He was dreading going to sleep. Earlier had been a warning and he knew if he went to sleep exactly what he would dream about. It had barely been a week since he had become bound to Izaya. His time was running out. He knew that. He didn't know what it wanted with him, but he had agreed. Closing his eyes he fell into a fitful sleep.

Shizuo blinked seeing his body fade and turn to dust. He watched helplessly as Izaya realised he was gone. He hated seeing his lover look so heartbroken. Reaching out he tried to touch him, only for the demon to move away and slam Vorona into the wall. He heard something rustle a figure in a long black cloak with a hood stood behind him. "Its time to go."

"No!" He was wary of the scythe, but he needed to get back to Izaya. "No! I don't want to die." The figure smiled, although he didn't know how he could tell that. "Everyone has to die. No one is allowed to break the cycle. You'll see him again." Shizuo tore his eyes away from the scene playing out in front of him. "When?" The figure tilted its head. "In one hundred and fifteen years, six days, twenty seven minutes and eight seconds exactly."

"No! I'm not waiting that long." The robed figure sighed. "I could bring you with me by force, but it would hurt." Shizuo grit his teeth. "Look at him. My lover is one of the most powerful demons you will ever meet. What do you think he'll do if his heart freezes? You can't take him away from me." He felt his knees give way, falling in front of the figure. "Please. Don't make me leave him." His hands were on the floor, tears rolling down his cheeks. "...Shizuo." He heard a much softer voice coming from the hood."Stand up." His mouth dropped open. How?

"Shizu-chan. Wake up." Groaning, he sat up shaking his head. "What's wrong? I could feel your pain through the link." Shizuo froze, forcing a smile. "Just a nightmare. Go back to sleep." Shuffling down the bed, he felt Izaya's arms wrap around him. "I'm not losing you again." The blond said nothing, closing his eyes and diving back into his memories.

Shizuo glanced around him seeing everyone had frozen. "What did you do?" The figure moved closer to him. "I've stopped time. I can fast track you through the cycle, but one day in your new life, when you're at the peak of happiness, I'll call in a favour from you." The blond stared at his frozen lover. "Would I have to die?" The figure tilted its head. "Maybe. It depends at the time. Choose now Shizuo." There was no hesitation. "I want to be with him as soon as possible." Though Izaya might hate him for it. "Very well. Until we meet again, Shizuo Heiwajima." He felt nothing after that.

This time he wasn't woken up by his worried mate, he was woken by the rustling at the window, the shadows creeping along the walls and the writing dripping in blood. Shizuo Heiwajima. Time's up. His breath hitched in his throat, but the sound didn't wake his lover. Was he at the peak of happiness? Running his fingers through Izaya's hair, he smiled sadly. Yes he was. Reaching down he pressed his lips to the sleeping demon's. He didn't want to go. "I'm sorry Izaya. I'll find a way back. No matter what." Before his will broke entirely, Shizuo rubbed at his eyes, leaving the room. The air around him grew colder. "What do you need me to do?"

Kida grinned kissing his lover repeatedly. "I'm trying to sleep." The blond demon laughed. "I'm not stopping you." Mikado sighed at his mate's antics. "I have meetings tomorrow." He couldn't help smile as his lover pouted. "I'll go and see if any of the lovely servant maids are around then." Mikado only sighed. "Don't go too far." Kida kissed his sleeping lover, before making his way out of the room. "Which of you lovely servant maids want to keep me company." He didn't get an answer, since the corridor was empty. Well, almost empty, he caught a blur out of the corner of his eye.

He followed the intruder easily, watching as the hooded figure stopped outside of Mikado's vault. Curious at who would be stupid enough to steal from the demon king, he watched and waited. They were looking for something. He watched as they went for a chained box on the top shelf. Saika. He couldn't allow anyone to steal that sword. "I'd advise you to put that back." He smiled as the figure froze. "I can't do that, Nii-san."

Kida felt his mouth drop open in shock. "Shizuo? What are you doing? Does Izaya know you're here?" His younger twin slowly turned around to face him, shaking his head, his eyes were red. "I don't have a choice." The blond demon narrowed his eyes. "You did make a deal." Shizuo nodded. "Yeah. I wasn't supposed to be reborn until one hundred and fifteen years. I'm not supposed to be your twin." Kida shook his head, grinning stupidly. "You'll always be my cute little brother. We can go to Mikado. He'll know what to do." Taking a step forward he snatched at air as his younger twin vanished. "Shit."

It wasn't long before they were in Izaya's bedroom, seeing the crimson eyed demon, staring at the blood on the wall. Kida stepped back. "Woah! That's creepy." Taking a seat on the bed, he patted the demon's shoulder. "You know he's not dead. I just saw him." Izaya nodded. "I know. I can still feel him. Did you see where he went?" Kida sighed. "Nope. But he said he had to do something. He probably had to pay the price for cheating the cycle."

Mikado sighed. "Karisawa can you see anything?" The fortune teller looked blank, but they all knew she was looking into somewhere far away. "I can't see anything." Then she smiled. "I can't see death." Mikado rubbed a hand through his hair. "Kar-" She shook her head. "No listen. I can't see death. Not death as in dying. Death, the grim reaper. Shizu-Shizu made a deal with death." The demon king shook his head. "That's impossible." The fortune teller shrugged. "Its true." Izaya stood up. "I'm going to find him then, before that protozoan gets himself into trouble." All three sighed as he left the room.

"I got what you needed." The figure nodded and he could tell it was smiling again. Behind him was a loud neigh, a horse and carriage rose up from the ground below, joining them on the roof top. "Now we can begin." Shizuo gripped onto the box. "Do I have to die?" He didn't want to leave Izaya again. "No. I would never kill you, Shizuo." The blond smiled as the figure removed their hood. "Thanks, Celty."

Izaya scanned the rooftops, his sharp eyes looking for anything that looked unusual. "You stupid protozoan. I said I wouldn't lose you again." The moon was high in the sky, a big disc of light. He watched as shadows shot past it. The carriage came straight at him. It stopped mid air. The door opened a voice calling to him. Izaya Orihara. You will witness. "Glaring at the shadowy darkness inside, he grit his teeth. "Witness what? I'm a little busy to be dealing with talking shadows." The horse neighed impatiently. The rebirth of death. Izaya climbed in, the door slamming shut.

The ride made him feel sick, especially when it burst from the ground, vertically travelling up the building. Looking out of the window, his eyes widened seeing his mate. The moment was ruined when the carriage came crashing down. He bounced in the seat, but was given a clear view, as the carriage stopped behind death. The blond smiled. Why couldn't he hear anything? He watched the hood fall. Death is a woman?

"What do I have to do then?" Celty smiled. "I want you to kill me." Shizuo shook his head. "I can't." He didn't move as his old friend moved closer, stroking along his cheek. "There are different types of death. I don't want you to erase my existence. I have lived a long time, I have seen many things. But I have come to love one man. I want to start again and be with Shinra. Please grant me this favour." Shizuo stared down at the box in his hand. "Will it hurt you?" Celty only smiled.

Izaya swore as the carriage door swung open. "I guess that's my cue." A mist of white drifted out first, with him following. He heard his mate's shocked gasp. "What are you doing? Shizu-chan." For the first time he noticed the woman on the roof. "Celty?" The woman smiled back. "Its good to see you again, Izaya. You will be a witness to my death. Shizuo will be my executioner and the little one here will be my replacement."

Shizuo shook. "Celty-" His friend, shook her head. "This is your repayment, Shizuo. For skipping the cycle, you must set me free." A hand rested on his shoulder. "Shizu-chan. What is she talking about?" The blond grinned sheepishly. "I'll tell you later. Celty. I'll do it." Taking the chain off of the box, he opened the casing, a cursed sword glinting up at him. "Shizuo. I ask that you keep my head safe and that you leave my unconscious body with Shinra."

Nodding his head, he curled his fingers around the handle of the blade, a wave of emotion hitting him. . . . Shaking his head he tried to block it out. The blade got heavier with each movement. "Thank you for everything Shizuo. Take care of him Izaya." Shizuo closed his eyes and swung. Opening his eyes he watched as his friend's head rolled along the roof top.

The blond tried to drop the sword, only to find out he couldn't. He could feel something trying to take over, trying to crawl into his mind. Can I love you? A hand rested on his shoulder. "Calm down. Saika, return to me." Shizuo and Izaya blinked as the sword was removed with ease from his grip. There on the roof top stood someone he thought had been lost.

Shizuo picked up Celty's fallen body, carrying her bridal style. Izaya was holding onto her head. The carriage had vanished as soon as he had swung the blade. The first stop they made was outside of Shinra's apartment, gently he lowered the still breathing body at the door step and roughly knocked on the door. As soon as the door opened, all three of them were gone.

The next stop was the demon realm, where Mikado was waiting in the throne room, Kida sitting in his lap. Both of their eyes widened. "Sonahara-san. How is this possible?" The girl with glasses smiled. "Heiwajima-san was supposed to become death, as his repayment. I volunteered instead." Shizuo said nothing, feeling his mate's eyes bore into him. He watched as Mikado and Kida got up and hugged the girl.

Within seconds they were back in the apartment. Izaya placed the head on the desk. He would find a container for it later. "Shizu-chan. You have some explaining to do." Shizuo didn't care, he pressed his lips against Izaya's. His arms securely around his lover. Now everything was over. Nothing would separate them. "Shizu-chan!" He kissed him again and again. "Izaya. I love you." His mate shut up, staring at him with love and lust. "I'll get it out of you at some point."

He didn't know when they reached the bed, Izaya on top of him. "I'm not losing you again." Shizuo nodded. "Never again." Sharp teeth nipped at his collar bone. "We still have to deal with becoming the successors." Izaya shrugged. "Easy enough, we're two of the strongest demons, we can take on anyone." Shizuo smiled. "There's still Aoba at school." Another bite. "Its Masaomi-kun's problem not yours. Let him deal with it." Izaya licked along the shell of his ear. "Anything else?" His stomach growled. "Yeah. I'm hungry." Izaya grinned. "That one would be my problem." He quickly lost his clothes. "So lets fix it."
