DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the character and Lindsey Salmon belongs to the "The Lovely Bones" book.
A/N: I'm still pretty new here but I wanted to share more work of mine. I'm sorry if there are any grammatical errors as I wrote this in grade 8 and only briefly proofread it before putting it up. If anyone would like to beta my future fan fictions; please message me. Hope you enjoy. Reviews are loved and just readers are frowned upon. Ps. Listen to "Not this year" by Aly & AJ to set the mood of this story.
It's Christmas day. Milky powdered snow falls gently, coating the neighborhood with pure beauty. In the midst of white, stands a small girl alone. Her hair is golden with a short bob, delicately framing her face. Rosy pink colors her lips as sweetness is captured when she smiles. Her eyes, deep sapphire are hugged by voluptuous eyelashes, portraying sheer bliss. Snug in a fluffy jacket along with matching mittens and ear muffs. A breath from the north sends a chill, causing her to shiver in delight. The warmth of her heart beats calmly, bringing comfort against the infinite cold.
Clouds of mist cover the still ground, intertwining with a glimmer of lights, wrapping the girl in a luminous glow. Just a step, the girl takes as she began to twirl and dance in the snow, losing herself in the music of serenity. Accidentally, she falls from a few pebbles under the powder, finding herself lying sprawled on the earth. With her body spread out, the girl decides to make a snow angel. After a while, she stops moving, allowing herself to get lost in the feeling of snow. Suddenly, the girl sneezes, causing her nose to run, her eyes looking up to the depth of the sky. Snowflakes shine a twinkle of blue as they descend upon the small girl's nose with tiny stars in her silky hair. Snow finds tongue, melting into simple sweetness. With a runny nose and cherry cheeks, the girl's giggles of enchantment grow into laughter of happiness. Her laughter is pure as heaven, soothing to listen to over and over again.
Her laughter has faded, never to be heard as the girl she once was. It's Christmas day again. This time, there's no milky powdered snow but harsh rain pouring down, cloaking the neighborhood in misery. Locked in her room on the windowsill, sits a teenage girl alone. Her hair has lost its natural shine, leaving behind dullness. The length down to her lower back now shapes her face sharply. Her dry lips only have the will to smile with bitterness. Her eyes are filled of endless depth and secrets left hidden underneath. Trembling with numb fingers in an over sized sweater and black sweats; the girl no longer lives in the perfect world of a little girl she once was before.
The dim lights line up around the edges of the bulky houses, burning out one by one. The warmth of her heart slowly fades as the fire of happiness is unable to consume the persisting cold. She walks along a past trail of blurred memories, where time ticks by reluctantly. Feeling anything but joy, a sorrowful melody haunts her ears. Clouds of fog roll in as acidic rain continues to fall down. The girl finds herself in front of a gray mirror with no happiness present. No more can she take the pain of losing. Her fake smiles are breaking as she herself is. She tilts her head against the window as the skies overcast above. The girl surrenders as her eyelids droop in desperation, closing to the blurry world. Not this time does she feel the cheer. Not this year.
