Well, here we are, the final chapter! A lot has happened for little Mala, but a lot has happened for Drago as well. So read and hopefully enjoy!
I do not own Jackie Chan Adventures, only Mala, Lang Yan and other OCs.
The Demon Netherworld was just as dark and barren as he imagined it to be. No wonder all the other Demon Sorcerers were so eager to escape from this hellhole. It was blank, desolate and devoid of life, joy and anything remotely positive. Drago could already feel this place draining every good thought and memory he held.
But at this point in time, the only thing floating in Drago's mind was the thought, 'Mala was right.' All this time, Mala was right. Who was he kidding? She was always right. Several times she warned him and what she said would happen always ended up happening. She warned him that he could lose his own Chi and that happened. She predicted that he would lose everything and more even if he had all eight Demon Chis and sure enough, he here was, defeated with nothing worthwhile to show for his efforts.
Yes, he managed to take his wretched father down with him, but that was a matter of pride. It was one last chance to stick it to the old man. Sure, it meant that he was stuck in this stink hole of a realm too, but it was worth it to see that look of shock on his old man's face. The joy he felt from that lost its luster rather quickly and left Drago feeling empty once more.
It wasn't shortly after they arrived when they ran into his aunts and uncles. Again displeased with Shen Du's failure, they didn't hesitate to punish him harshly. Drago laughed at his father's pathetic squealing and begging for mercy. It was always his father's style to weasel out of pain and punishment with empty promises, but this time, they weren't falling for them. But then, they turned their attention to Drago. They were just as harsh – if not a thousand times more – with him than they were with his father. Perhaps it was because he was a half-demon – and they so despised half-demon offspring – or because he too had failed just like his father or because he failed even using all their powers… or any combination of those. His aunts and uncles weren't exactly pleased with Drago taking their powers to use and even failing to use them properly. They were so displeased that they took their Chi back from him, a process that left the young dragon in a lot of pain, before they proceeded to doll out their own punishment upon him.
And now here he was: floating aimlessly through the Netherworld. He was broken, defeated and lost everything he held dear. He lost all the power and authority he gained, everything he needed to surpass his father and where did it get him? It nearly cost him his life and worse, the only person who ever believed in him.
Mala was always there for him, when they were kids and when he came to her for help. And how did he repay her? By tricking her into helping him, by lying, by doing exactly what a demon does! Just thinking about what he did to his friend made him hate himself more and more. She stood by his side and he treated her liked shit.
She loved him. But he was too stubborn to let go of his ambitions enough to see that and even tell her the same. He could have listened to her and move past the hate he held for his father and lived a happy life with her. But now here he was: banished in the desolate Netherworld to live out the rest of his life. He would never see Mala again…
"Well, look at what floated over to my corner of this wasteland." Drago's eyes snapped open and he straightened up, looking around rapidly for the source of the voice.
"Who said that?" he shouted.
"Now, now, there's no need to shout. What an honor it is to finally meet the son of the Fire Demon Sorcerer, Shen Du!"
Drago looked up to a floating rock platform above him and saw a tall figure with long white hair. His first thought was that the figure was Mala, but the hair was slightly different than Mala's and the two large crystal wheels floating over the figure's back were very different from the one's Mala had. "You're… Lang Yan," he whispered.
"Correct, my dear boy. Now, I'd ask how you wound up in this situation and pretend that I'm very invested and concerned with your story, but there isn't anything you've done that I don't know about," she said, turning to face Drago as she held up her crystal ball. "I must say, you really did a fine job back in San Francisco. I don't think I've ever seen anyone gain that much power and lose everything in such a short amount of time. What was that? Two, three hours?"
"I don't need reminding! I know what I did," Drago muttered, with a hint of self-loathing in the tone of his voice.
"What you did, and who you hurt," Lang Yan added. "That was quite the transformation," she commented.
"I thought that the Chi couldn't be removed once I had all of them…"
"Oh please, there are hundreds, thousands of Demon Sorcerers. Why would only eight Chis become permanently attached to a single host? It would certainly be no easy task for a Chi Wizard to remove them, but they can be easily moved by our own. That is why your aunts and uncles easily stripped you of their borrowed powers."
"My father said that when the eight Chis of our family were combined, nothing could remove them."
"Your father is an idiot," she said bluntly. "There is no demon more cowardly or more stupid than that of Shen Du."
"Heh, that we can agree on."
"I bet you must be very desperate to get back to Earth now, hm?"
"More than you know," Drago replied.
"Well, you happen to be in luck. You see, the necklace my daughter wore was the same one my husband used to banish me to this place. After that, he placed a protective spell on the necklace. You witnessed the spell activate when the old Chi Wizard attempted to drain my daughter's Chi. After the spell was completed, the necklace shattered. In other words, it lost all magical powers it once held. When the necklace shattered, the spell that bound my portal weakened considerably, enough only for one demon to slip through." Lang Yan brought her hands together and muttered a spell that Drago couldn't quite follow. Behind her, a large red portal outlined by a bright green gateway opened behind her.
"So, I could go back to Earth? I can find Mala and apologize and-and maybe she'll take me back!" Drago beamed with excitement while eyeing the portal.
"I don't think so."
"What?"
"You see, I've been banished to this wasteland for over a decade with no contact or even access to a far more enjoyable and comfortable setting of the human world. Like the rest of our kind, I long for the human world once more. And most importantly, you broke my daughter's heart and I have an irresistible urge to inflict physical pain onto you. Perhaps I've gotten more accustomed to being a mother than I thought. But as they say, motherhood changes you. If you want my portal, you'll have to fight me for it," she said, grabbing her two crystal wheels in her hands and assuming a battle position.
"Is that how it's going to be?"
"I see no alternative. Our kind prefers physical confrontations as opposed to philosophical debates."
"Fine, but I won't go easy on you just because you're Mala's mother," he glared, fireballs forming in his palms.
"I expect nothing else from the son of Shen Du." With amazing speed, Lang Yan whipped her hands and threw her crystal wheels towards Drago. He jumped out of the way, but barely managed to avoid the sharp blades. He hissed in pain and saw the two cuts on his tail as blood slowly dripped from them.
"What's the matter? Haven't you ever faced a true Demon Sorcerer before? I suspect you've never had the experience or pleasure of facing a full demon!" Lang Yan taunted. She jumped down to the same rock platform as Drago and began unleashing a storm of swift kicks unto him. Drago just barely managed to avoid each of her kicks but couldn't dodge the sharpened teal blade on her heels as one of them sliced his cheek.
He cried out in pain and touched the cut on his cheek, his fingers coated in his blood. "Enough!" he shouted, unleashing a swirling storm of fire all around him. Lang Yan jumped away, avoiding the flames with gracious ease. As she jumped from platform to platform, she suddenly morphed into a light blue wolf. She leapt off a higher platform as the flames disappeared and pounced onto Drago, pinning his arms to the ground with her large paws.
"What makes you think you're worthy of going back? You shattered my daughter's heart into a million pieces! Why would she ever take you back after everything you did to her?" Lang Yan asked.
"I know! I know I don't deserve Mala's forgiveness. I don't deserve the chance to go back. But I will spend every second if I get back doing whatever I have to do to earn her forgiveness. I don't care if it'll take years or the rest of my life, but I'll do whatever it takes! And I won't let you stop me!" Drago opened his mouth wide and breathed a bright, hot stream of fire in Lang Yan's face.
She hissed in pain from the flames and jumped off Drago, trying to smother the flames that slowly burned her fur. Just as she nearly finished smothering the flames, Drago roughly tackled her to the ground. He readied a pair of fireballs in his hands, but Lang Yan kicked him off her with her hind legs and ran off to another platform. As she moved, crystal shards formed behind her and shot down towards Drago one by one.
Drago easily dodged each one before ducking down behind a large rock, on which the shards shattered on impact. "What's the matter, child, are you afraid? Well, you should be very afraid of the Wolf Eyes," she grinned. Lang Yan changed back to her default form and raised her arms, summoning her dual crystal chakram wheels. She waved her hands and the crystals dashed around Drago's rock barrier and spun right towards him.
"Dammit!" he cursed, running out from his cover just as the chakrams struck the rocks. The chakrams followed him once more as he jumped from platform to platform. He dodged the first and grabbed the second before hurtling it towards Lang Yan. The chakram hit her dead center and knocked her back onto the dirt. With Lang Yan down, Drago shot his eyes towards the portal and he dashed towards it, not even checking behind him to see if Lang Yan was up or in pursuit. As if by some miracle, Drago managed to make it to the portal before her and wasted no time in jumping through.
When Lang Yan rose back to her feet, she saw the portal close shut behind Drago. She smiled to herself as her dual wheels returned to their place on her back. "And so the final piece is placed. I may not be able to see my daughter's future, but I have a feeling she will find her way to where she is most needed. Mother's intuition, I suppose. Either way, you were supposed to go through the portal," she commented to herself, "that's what this showed me," she finished, holding up her crystal ball. "I just needed to know how badly you wanted it and what you'd do with your chance." She moved to the center of the platform she stood on and brought her legs up hover over the ground cross-legged.
"Your greatest challenge awaits."
