Letters from a Mutual Friend

Author's Disclaimer: No, I still don't own Labyrinth. All rights go to their respective owners. Sorry for such a delay! I apologize; it's been a month of crazy for me. Sarah's going back to college, but not without one last visit to the Underground. Then, it's time for sophomore year to get going. I hope you enjoy it!

[Our Great and Noble Liar Leader Our Good Rat Ruler]

Your Majesty,

The surprise party for Sarah was a smashing success [quite literally]! [As you probably saw from your crystal,] We had a good turnout for it, and everyone got along well [for once]. There was a distinct lack of fighting between the fireys and everyone else [even no head-bowling], and the goblins seemed to have listened to you about not bog-diving before celebrating [for our noses' sakes]. The scrabble tournament was good fun, even if Sarah won by a large margin, even against Sir Didymus. Toby kept near Ludo and the herd with much more success, learning how to scream deeper [or higher in his case] so that he can pretend he can call rocks [or at least his parents at all hours].

Saying good-bye to Sarah was the hardest part of the party. Ruby Lou talked with Sarah for thirty minutes [almost a record for rock-callers] before she would let us speak to her, and Toby did not want to leave, almost as much as Sarah. But, we made sure that she was [ready for pesky people] supplied with enough writing paper, quills, and fresh food from Hoggle's garden to make sure that she was happy. We had to make the box bigger to accommodate all the stuff we gave, besides the enchanted flowers that [somehow] appeared at the end of the party [despite repeated assurances of you not being there]. Sarah was kind in giving us a gift as well, more pictures of us all. After one last group hug [initiated by Ludo], Sarah and Toby had to leave, with Sarah promising to come as soon as she could manage, and to write as always.

This is an accurate summary of all that happened at the party, so you can be assured that [nothing untoward was said of you] your name was not mentioned. As always, expect another letter from us when Sarah's letter comes [unless you are too impatient]. Our continued wishes for your happiness and health.

Your [very tired] servants,

Hoggle, Ludo, and Sir Didymus

[O Kingy Our Mighty Monarch Butterfly]

Your Majesty,

Good morning from [your favorite trio] all! We hope that we wrote this early enough so that you can read it as you enjoy your daily tea. We had a letter very late last night from Sarah [as we were all in bed when it arrived], so when Hoggle saw it, he woke us all up in due haste [without even waking the goblins]. It seems that Sarah has already had a busy start to her sophomore year, and it took longer to write.

Between classes and work, Sarah [complains a bit] has too much happening. With classes, she is taking a calculus and Spanish class, both of which did not fit into her schedule previously [due to the science classes conflicting]. Alas, while Sarah manages the math just fine, the Spanish is giving her trouble. It has been a year since she took a language class, and she says that she is rusty with it, especially since the teacher speaks fast. But, we believe she will catch on soon [before the teacher uses his sarcasm on her], with other friends in the class to help. Besides those classes, she has another psychology class, this time dealing with the development of humans over time, and she enjoys it. She also has two teaching classes, an introduction to education and a seminar about current teaching methods. She [gave us a whole page on just those two] loves those classes.

If that was not enough, somehow she is working part-time on two jobs. She says that she is not the only one with multiple jobs, but it seems hard to fathom. She does not go out much [thankfully], as she spends her afternoons and weekends at the clothing store, and her evenings at the restaurant. Apparently, college students like having breakfast foods for dinner [and eating bacon]. Her managers have been lenient with her due to her busy schedule [though we secretly hope she quits one of them to focus on classes], so hopefully her grades will not be affected.

As always, if you wish to hear a more detailed description [of Sarah's many exploits], just ask [Sir Didymus]. We shall continue doing what we do best, between Hoggle harvesting, Ludo starting to plan for winter, and Sir Didymus protecting our kingdom faithfully. Best wishes for the kingdom's growth and general happiness.

Your [good and faithful] servants,

Hoggle, Ludo, and Sir Didymus

Author's Notes: Hi again! Sorry again for such a late update. Real life was busy and full of drama, as I managed to lose my purse [and then had it be returned a month later], and I have had way too many car problems, as my car has been in the shop for over a month, and had 2 flat tires while using three different rental cars. I'm also moving in a couple weeks. So that's me, but as I move, I'm trying to keep this up to date. I started this story while moving last year, so I have high hopes. Also, for everyone going back to school, good luck! There's more news coming from the Underground next time, so stay tuned! Thanks so much for being patient and wonderful readers! And thanks for reading and reviewing! I really appreciate it! I hope you enjoyed reading!

Netag Silverstar: Wow! That's quite a review! Thank you so much! I hope I addressed everything in the personal message. I'm so glad you are enjoying my portrayal of everyone. I'm definitely taking your ideas into consideration. Good luck with classes; I know they can be a handful in high school. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!
