Taken By Guilt
It was another slow day at the Coffee Shop for Margaret and Eileen. Not many people were there and the ones who were had already been taken care of, so the girls decided to go take their break. Margaret was drinking her third double-shot white chocolate mocha while Eileen sipped on her second peach tea. "Margaret, why are you drinking so much coffee?" The mole questioned. "I stayed up late last night studying for an exam I have after work." If one looked closer at the robin, they would notice bags under her eyes. Eileen frowned and looked down at the beverage in her hands. This wasn't like the robin; not one bit. The only time Eileen had ever seen her look this bad was the last time she stayed up all night studying and that was because she couldn't stop thinking about someone.
Someone... hm, oh god not this again. "Who is it this time?" Eileen sighed, looking up at her friend. The red avian was taken aback by this and titled her head in confusion, trying to act like she didn't know what the shorter girl was talking about. "Come on Margaret I know you know what I'm talking about. Who were you thinking of that kept you up all night?" But, before either girl could get another word, the bell to the entrance rang, signalling another customer had came in. "Never mind, we'll talk more later." Upon entering the actual dining area from the kitchen, they saw Mordecai and Rigby sitting down at their usual table, fighting about something they presumed. "Dude, we wouldn't have gotten in trouble if you would've just watched your mouth in front of Pops!" Mordecai snapped. "Yeah! Well he's what, 78? It's not like he's never heard-" Rigby was cut off by Margaret clearing her throat and greeting the duo.
"Hey Mordecai, hey Rigby." She smiled politely at them. "Hey Margaret." Mordecai greeted back, smiling. On the inside, Margaret was hurting, but didn't bother to show it. Eileen knew it, but didn't want to talk about it in front of the boys. Once the duo was done ordering, the girls left and went behind the counter to the brewers and coffee pots. "It's Mordecai isn't it?" Eileen didn't bother to look at the troubled robin. "Eileen, can we please talk about this later?" Margaret sighed and gabbed the two mugs containing the coffee ordered by the boys. When she returned, they both had shit-eating-grins and blushes on their faces. Knowing exactly what just happened, she just smiled and put down the cups and turned to walk away, but was stopped.
"Margaret! Before you go, I was thinking we could hang out some time, just you and me. We haven't done so in a while so uh... yeah." Mordecai smiled looking at the girl before him. "Sure Mordecai, I'd love to. How about after work? You can come over to my place." A small part of her just broke in half... It was her heart. This is what was troubling her. She had a crush on the blue jay and it took all of her will power to not show it. However, there was a problem; he was gay... and she knew it. All that she felt was guilt. She didn't want to like him in that way, but she did. Never did she want to ruin their friendship, so the red avian kept quiet about it. Not even Eileen knew, but she was catching on, and fast. Joy over comes her when they talk, but just as fast sadness and guilt replace it, knowing all too well it would never happen in a million years. The blue avian snapped her out of her thoughts. "Did you hear what I just said?" Margaret shook her head, freeing her mind of those thoughts. "No, sorry. I was zoning for a second." She menatlly slapped herself. "I said sure." Mordecai laughed. "Well, I guess I'll see you tonight then." She laughed it off and walked away.
I wish I could tell him the truth...
