John's Story

A man of conscience and of hope it seems.
He moved to Arizona to fulfill his dreams.

With wife and son and brother too,
On a fool's errand in the army's view.

Amid Apache arrows, his wife was lost.
He'd loved her dearly, high was the cost.

He married again and when push comes to shove,
She teaches him tenderness, Understanding, and love.

She believes in his cause and respects his dream.
But she speaks her mind when she feels he's in need.

He wants his son to be a strong man.
He uses tough love to achieve that end.

His brother, Buck, in his own rough way
Lends his support but still has his say.

Big John relies on his bunkhouse crew.
They'll fight alongside him through battle or feud.

He loves intently but won't let it show.
He'll bark and growl and tell them to go.

They won't quit and neither will John.
They'll stay through the worst and keep trudging on.

John feels responsible for all who dwell
On the ranch and among the hills.

He'll fight the Apache only when he must.
His fondest wish is to build a trust.

He'd like for all to live in peace.
He's certain harmony is within his reach.

He'll stick it out and stay til the end.
To civilize and settle this land.
