Chapter 9: Moonlight Shadow

[Gray]

Knowing that the Natsu Imposter is on the loose makes me unable to sleep. I try to make myself fall asleep by reading the files that we have on him, which aren't too helpful. This guy is so unpredictable that not even the police know his habits. He just randomly shows up whenever he wants. Why did he pick Natsu of all people to impersonate? Was it because of his reputation?

"It's a bit late to be reading," says a familiar voice from behind.

Before I can do anything, hands grab my head and a cloth is pressed to my face. The smell is sweet and nauseating. My vision blurs and I can't concentrate on anything. All I can see is a wicked grins in the moonlight.

I wake up chained to something. The room is dark with the exception of a few candles. The only other source of like is the full moon. Someone walks into my room and I freeze (not literally). The footsteps are calm and slow. Whoever kidnapped me isn't in a hurry.

"You are getting to be quite troublesome, Ice Mage of Fairy Tail," the person says, "I went through all this trouble: I kept police scratching their heads; I stained Fairy Tail's reputation; and I got away with it all without revealing my true face."

"Cut the bullshit and tell me why I'm here." I say impatiently.

The voice laughs. "You are a quick-tempered one, aren't you? I've heard that from newspaper articles."

"I don't suppose you're gonna tell me who you are," I suggest, ignoring his statement completely.

"No, I won't. Nice try, though."

"Shall I call you Natsu? It leaves a rather distasteful flavor in my mouth, though."

He laughs again. "I don't care what you call me."

I glare at him. "How did you find me?"

"It was simple," he says, "I followed you in the shadows."

How could he do that without me knowing?

"Oh, don't bother trying to figure it out—it's not worth your time," he says dismissively.

I sigh, tired of his nonsense. "Isn't this the part where you reveal your plan to me?"

I can see his awful grin despite the dim lighting.

"Death is upon ye. That be my plan."

[Lucy]

I wake up and Gray is not beside me. I quickly get up and search the entire room. I can't find him! My heart races as I try to figure out what could have happened. I dress in a hurry so I can go look for him. Someone must have broken in during the night…but who could it have been? And how did they break in? I find my keys and hook them to my belt, feeling a bit more secure than I did a few seconds ago. I don't understand how someone could have broken in without me hearing anything, but I don't have time to ponder things like this.

Someone knocks. "Lucy-san, please answer the door."

That's the chief investigator, Tomoya-san.

"C-coming!" I reply.

I rush to the door and open it. "Come in."

"Thank you." He says and walks in.

I shut the door and face him. "What is it?"

He sighs heavily and hands me the most recent newspaper. "Gray has been kidnapped by the Imposter."

I haven't been able to come up with any new chapters until now because of school and personal reasons. Hontoni sumimasen, minna-san! (I'm really sorry, everyone!)
