Mole II

Eyes the color of honey narrowed at the door before her. She had been secretly spying on the lords for 2 weeks now and she still was as close to finding out who sent the spy as she was the first day she started. Miaka brushed a lock of purple hair behind her ear before entering the room.

Four pairs of eyes turned to her at that moment. She smiled as politely as she could and began passing out the folders in her her hands. The lords looked rather confused but said nothing of it as the last one took a folder and then looked up at her. Miaka folded her hands neatly on her lap and bowed.

"Gaara-sama wants you all to take a look at his proposal before he comes in. If there are any question he asked that you address them to me."

The lord on her right with dirty blonde hair raised a brow at her. "Why would he send a secretary to answer our questions?" the man asked.

"Because, Lord Tori, I helped write the proposal." Miaka answered politely.

The four men hummed and proceeded to read the proposal. Not even a minute passed and the third one with the bald head and beard slammed his hand on the table.

"Why on earth would I agree to something like this?!" The man demanded. "I won't give away my hard earned money to a homeless shelter!"

Miaka raised a brow. As the other men in the room continued to read.

"So the Kazekage wants us to help the poor?" asked Tori.

Miaka nodded. "Yes, most of these people were ninja that were injured in action and have no other way of life. They need a little something to get them back on their feet."

"For free?!" The bald man roared.

"Yes, Lord Akizawa, for free." Miaka replied slowly.

"Well this doesn't sound like too much of a bad idea." Replied a younger man. Piercing blue eyes turned to Miaka. "So you plan to build a shelter to help house these ninja?"

"That is correct, Toshiro-sama."

Toshiro ran a hand through his dark hair and nodded. "Very well I agree."

"Well then, if Toshiro agrees than I as well." Said the eldest of the four.

Toshiro laughed. "Ah, Kiro, well it's nice that we agree on something."

Kiro placed a hand on his large belly and laughed. "Yes, it is."

Miaka turned to Tori who was re-reading the proposal before nodding his head. "All right, I'll fund this."

Akizawa stood up from his chair and glared at them. "Well I do not agree. I can't believe this. All of you are willing to give your money to these...these...beggars?!"

"Well...yes." Kiro replied. "It's a good way to give back to the men and women that serve us."

"Well if they really did serve us then they would have done a better job and not have gotten into the predicament that they're in now." Akizawa growled and turned to the door. "All of you can give your money away but I will not!"

Just as the man was about to open the door, Gaara beat him to it. The red haired teen frowned at the angry Akizawa who pushed past him, storming down the hall. Gaara watched the bald man as he rounded the corner of the building. He turned to Miaka with a curious look. She smiled and bowed.

"Welcome, Kazekage-sama." she said softly.

"Hello, Miaka-san." He turned to remaining three men expectantly. "Have you all read the proposal?"

"Yes, Kazekage-sama." Replied Kiro, he smiled, creating even more wrinkles on his already heavily wrinkled face.

Gaara smiled and sat down to begin the meeting. While Miaka stepped out, closing the door quietly behind her. With a frown she stepped closer to the window in front of her and peered out of it, just in time to see Akizawa mount his carriage and leave the area.

"How did the rest of the meeting go?" Miaka asked as she set a cup of tea in front of Gaara. The young man thanked her and watched as she sat in the chair across from him.

"They're still a bit upset over the whole, boundaries that I set up for their land, but other than that they're on board with the plan."

"Did Toshiro-sama try to talk you into giving him more land again?" Miaka asked and giggled with Gaara nodded with a heavy sigh.

"Akizawa seemed pretty upset this morning." Gaara pointed out, taking a sip from his tea.

Miaka nodded. "Yes." she frowned. "I don't like him." the purple haired teen mumbled as she crossed her arms over her chest. "I think we should keep an eye on him."

Gaara nodded. "Yes, I think so too." He glanced at the clock on his wall and stood. "Should I walk you to the hospital?"

Miaka smiled and stood up following the redhead to the door. "Thank you, Gaara-kun." The made their way out of the building and into the cool night air. "You know, there is a new ice cream vendor near by. We should go and check it out, you might like it." Miaka suggested.

Gaara glanced down at the girl and smiled. "We should, how about tomorrow during the lunch break? Would we have time?" he asked the girl who had his schedule memorized by heart.

"Hmm..." Miaka tapped a finger on her chin. "Yes, we do, you don't have anything until—"

Miaka was cut short as Gaara grabbed her forearm and pulled her behind him. His sand shielding them from a series of shuriken that were thrown their way. He lowered his sand slightly to find the enemy but when he did a masked man jumped from the shadows, aiming a punch at the redhead. Gaara had just enough time to push Miaka back and hold off the man that was quick enough to bypass his sand.

Green eyes glared at the man that pushed harder against his hand and then switched to a kick. Gaara's sand barely managing to shield him in time as he was sent skidding back. Who ever this man was, he knew Gaara's defense and how to get around it.

"Get off of me!" He turned to Miaka, eyes wide watching as another ninja tried to get his hands on her. However the brunette was able to take the mans wrist and turn his arm away. She quickly punched his side, turned and flipped him over her shoulder making the man fall on his back. Another ninja jumped from the shadows lounging at her.

"Miaka!" he called out, raising his sand protectively around the girl but not before she was kicked across the face. She fell to the ground just as his sand cocooned her.

"You're forgetting about me!" the man that had attacked him yelled as he fell from the sky arm pulled back. Gaara quickly raised his shield but felt it crack under the man's punch. There were two more resounding strikes made against his shield before Gaara decided to attack, shaping his sand into spikes he launched them at his assailants, one of which was struck by it while the others barely avoided being hit. The red head lowered his sand partially to glare at the men that escaped.

"Who are you?" Gaara asked, his gaze monetarily shifting to check on the sand around Miaka, feeling a sigh of relief that they had left her alone.

"I think you know who we are." the taller, and apparent ring leader spoke. "Kazekage-sama."

Gaara frowned. "I suggest you leave my village, before you get hurt."

"No can do." the man spoke again. "You, see we were paid a lot of money to make sure you were taken care off. Wouldn't be fair on my end if I just took off, now would it."

Gaara raised his left hand and lifted Miaka and brought her to him, merging his own shield with hers. He glanced down at her, while she nursed her injured cheek. He turned back to the remaining tree men and spoke calmly. "What would killing me accomplish?"

"That's simple!" The man laughed. "With you gone, the village no longer has to look to a monster and call it Kazekage." He took out a kunai from his pouch and pointed it at the redhead. "I think it's time for you to be gone now, don't you think?"

"Wind Blade Jutsu!" Gaara's sand immediately lifted up to shield Miaka and himself. The man looked behind him, eyes widened as a series of blades headed towards him and his team. He quickly leapt out of the way, completely ignoring the other two, leaving them behind to their own the devices. The men on the other hand were unable evacuate the area before the jutsu hit them, cutting them and leaving them immobile.

"Gaara!" he heard his sister call out and he immediately lowered the sand. "Are you alright?"

"Well then..." they heard the man's voice echo around them. Both ninja tried to pinpoint where he was but found nothing. Beside them Miaka stood and listened, there was no use trying to figure who that man was through his voice, he was disguising it but maybe he might give something else away. "The Kazekage's older sister came to the rescue. How sweet. Guess I'll just have to take another chance later on."

"Show yourself you coward!" Temari demanded.

"Now, now, Temari-san." the man pretended to scold. "Good things, come to those who wait. See ya!" With that the area became quiet again. Neither of the two ninja could sense the man's chakra.

Temari sighed and put away her fan, frowning she turned to the two teens. "Are you alright?" she asked.

"Yes." replied Miaka, still nursing her reddened cheek, Gaara simply nodded as his sand slowly made it's way back to his gourd.

"That was why Kankuro and I told you that one of us had to be with you at all times." Said Temari as she smiled at her brother, almost as if rubbing it in his face that he was wrong and she was right.

"I know, thank you." the redhead replied.

"Next time I'll get him for sure!" Promised the blonde wind mistress to which Gaara smiled fondly.

"Temari-san, you were following us?" asked Miaka.

The blonde smiled and nodded. "You bet! I won't let anyone hurt my little brother." Miaka laughed. "Hey..." Temari started and held Miaka's chin tilting it to the side to inspect her chin. "He kicked you pretty hard."

"Oh!" The purple haired teen jumped back and touched her sore cheek. "Yes." she turned to the two injured men on the ground. Both with masks that covered their faces. "What are we going to do about them."

"Interrogate them." Both turned to watch and unusually stony Gaara. "We'll get what we need out of them."

Miaka lifted a hand to her lips in thought. "Do you think they'll tell us who sent them?" she turned to the redhead when he didn't answer her. His green eyes focused on the two unconscious men on the ground.

"Temari, I'll take care of those two. Please walk Miaka-chan to the hospital, and when shes' done with the shift walk her home as well."

"Got it!" Replied the blonde.

Miaka on the other hand blinked up at Gaara. "You're not coming with us?"

"No."

Both Miaka and Temari frowned at the Kazekage's unusually cold reply and watched him pick the two men with his sand before heading off. The two girls stared after him in complete silence until they could no longer see him.

"Is he going to be OK?" Miaka asked, worried for her friend.

Temari narrowed her eyes at the dark sky before shifting her feet. "We should go, otherwise you'll be late."

"Ah!" Miaka turned to the blonde flustered. "Yes! You're right!"

Temari gave Miaka a tight smile, one the purple haired girl failed to notice as the two hurried towards the hospital.
