Chapter Six
::
Shanilla was watching her best friend that morning with quite a bit of concern. Whereas Spencer was usually their best worker hands down today he was messing things up more than he had even in his training. It was after his third botched coffee order that she finally decided to step in, "Alright Spencer, what's wrong?"
"Hm?" Spencer looked up from his work, eyes slightly distant as he looked at her, "Oh, nothing. Just tired, I guess. Or something." After his response he quietly went back to wiping down the counters, not realizing he had been wiping the same spot for the past ten minutes, which, yeah, he was really out of it.
"Right, 'just tired'. Come on Spencer! You're usually our best coffee maker here. I mean, you're good enough to even get the Great Billy Joe Cobra's order rig-" Oh. Spencer was blushing. Well, that was interesting. Clasping her hands behind her back and leaning in Shanilla grinned, "So, judging by that rather bright blush I'm guessing that means Billy finally made his move, right?"
"W-W-What?!" Spencer half-shouted, looking up in shock, blush getting even brighter, "No! We're- We're just friends, Shanil! That's it! Bros, nothing more! Just bros!" Shanilla sighed, shaking her head, honestly. "Well, it seems his bro puns are rubbing off on you at least, and maybe something else?"
At the firetruck red face and shout of her name Shanilla giggled, grinning widely, "Relax, I'm just joking Spence- Wait, did he- Ah, okay, suppose not then." Definitely not if that glare was anything to by, besides, Spencer would be acting a lot happier if he had gotten laid. "Okay, so, what then? You're upset that Billy didn't make his move?"
"Shanilla!" Spencer stressed, hands on his hips, "For the last time, we're just friends! That's it! I'm not upset about Billy or anything-"
"Yeah, see, I'd believe that if not for one thing," Shanilla interrupted, crossing her arms, "I've seen you two interact for longer than a minute, trust me, the sexual tension is there." Spencer let out a frustrated grunt, throwing his rag down on the counter, "No, there's not! You're just seeing what you want to!"
"No, you're seeing what you want to. You don't want to hurt your friend so you're keeping your feelings hidden from him." The other's silence was answer enough for her, "Spence, you can't keep your emotions bottled up like that! You have to tell him-"
"Hell no!" Spencer snorted, turning to at least pretend to be busy, "No, never gonna happen. Ever!"
"Oh for the love of- You two can't be that stupid!" Shanilla groaned, rubbing her forehead, "He took you to the movies last night! That was a blatant date! He took you to the movies on the back of his motorcycle and even loaned you his shirt!" Alright, now Spencer was really wishing he had kept quiet about last night's outing, "It's obvious that he has feelings for you-"
"Well duh," Spencer muttered quietly, going back to scrubbing at the counters, "Anyone can see that, it's obvious. I mean, he's major sweet, and he really does have a good heart, but Shanil, think about it. Think about him. This would be a month-long fling at best, and a horrible two-day hookup at worst. No matter what would happen you and I both know it won't work out."
"You don't know that," Shanilla rubbed her arm, "He could surprise you. Maybe you two could even end up making it, and even if not you two are great friends-"
"Exactly," Spencer cut in, "We're the best of friends, he means a lot to me and- And I don't want to lose him. These feelings will fade, and even if they don't I'm sure Billy's will. We'll just be friends, and I'm okay with that. So please, please, can we not talk about this anymore?"
The young woman was quiet for a few moments before finally sighing and pushing her bangs back, "Fine, Spencer. Fine. If things don't get better though I reserve the right to butt in on friendship code!" Spencer let out a quiet giggle, shaking his head, "Deal. Just- I can deal with this. I promise."
At the napkin that was suddenly in his face Spencer tilted his head, looking at Shanilla. "I don't think crying counts as dealing with it." Spencer took the napkin, furiously wiping at his tears as he let out shaky sigh. Once. He would cry over this whole falling-in-love-with-his-best-friend mess once. Then he would put it behind him.
For good.

Billy Joe Cobra, world-famous and beloved star, was exhausted. It was hardly his fault though, after all, he had just been through four hours of photo shoots, two interviews, and he hadn't even eaten since the coffee shop that morning. Actually, now that he thought about it, Spencer should still be on his shift. If he hurried he could drop by for lunch and ask the other out on another dat- Outing. Not a date, because, well, they weren't dating. Outings however were fair game, or at least, he supposed they were.
He managed to get ten feet down the hall before a voice stopped him, "And just where do you think you're going?" Flinching Billy nervously swallowed and stopped in his tracks, praying it wasn't who it sounded like. The sharp nails tapping on the clipboard however left no doubt.
It was his manager.
He couldn't even get a response to the question out, since he was now being dragged away by the hood of his hoodie, which, yeah, that actually hurt a little bit, "Oh come on!" Billy whined, crossing his arms and trying not to move. Unfortunately even with rather deadly high heels and being a foot shorter than him the woman was stronger than him, "I was just going to get some lunch!"
"You can eat in the limo Billy, we have an appointment to get to, in case you've forgotten," she slightly hissed back, anger in her voice. Billy merely huffed, trying to make it to where he was heavier to drag, because dammit, he wanted to eat at the coffee shop, "Yeah, a bag of chips if there's any left. Come on Managsis! I thought you wanted me to eat more! What's so wrong with me going and getting-"
"We have a schedule to keep! That's what's wrong with it!" Miranda Xavier was a hard woman to anger but Billy Joe Cobra seemed to have a special talent in angering others. "And I do want you to eat more, just not flirt with the help!" Miranda slightly blinked in shock as Billy sudden wrenched himself out of her grip, eyes dark, "Spencer isn't help, he's my friend!"
"Oh?" she half-asked, nail tapping out a constant beat on her clipboard, "And since when do you have friends? Let's not fool ourselves here, Mister Cohen, you have hookups, flings, and temporary partners. You do not have friends, or at least ones that don't involve your public image."
"Yeah, well, maybe this time I do," Billy hissed out, starting to shake as he turned on his heel and headed towards the other exit where his bike was parked, "I'll be back in time for the signing, don't worry about it. Just- Just leave him out of this, got it?"
Miranda raised an eyebrow as she watched her client stalk off, looking very much like an overprotective boyfriend who's girl had just been threatened. Exactly like it, actually. "I may not know who this friend of yours is, Mister Cohen," Miranda murmured, voice low as she continued towards the limo waiting, "But I promise you that I will find out."
Heels clicking against the floor tile sharply and without mercy the woman's expression grew sour. Just who was the worthless little street rat who thought they could mess with what was hers.

Another one of their outings, and it was the most awkward one yet. If it wasn't Spencer flinching when he accidentally brushed against Billy it was Billy going startlingly quiet at the most random of times. They had managed to have a few fun moments but for the most part it was a rather embarrassing and awkward day.
"So, uh." Spencer finally looked up at Billy, the star having finally spoken after a record twelve minute of silence. The two were on their way to the diner, Billy having volunteered to walk Spencer there. The end result had been a silence between them that ended up being rather loud.
"Y-Yeah?" Billy shifted, tucking his hands into his pockets, "Well, um, I-I kinda heard about this club downtown a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to visit, would you want to come? A-And that lil sis Shanil, if you want to bring her." Maybe if another person was there things wouldn't be so awkward.
"Y-Yeah, t-that sounds f-fun," Spencer blushed, staring at the ground, "I'll ask Shanil and her brother, Rajeev. Been a while since the three of us have hung- Are you okay?" Billy was just looking at him, eyes wide. "Rajeev?"
"Uh, yeah, he's Shanilla's brother, he works the same shift as me at the diner. Dark skin, weird looking hair, obsession with that businessman's daughter, Lolo Calorie. Why? You know him?" Billy shuddered, rubbing his arms and looking terrified, "Bro, that dude was my stylist for a day."
"Wha-? Really? Rajeev? He can't even dress himself without look like a total toolkit!" Spencer half-laughed, covering his mouth, "How, uh, how did that work out for you?"
"Twenty minutes and I was running and trying to hide," Billy shivered again, looking freaked, "It was bad Spence, it was so bad." Instead of feeling sorry for him Spencer merely laughed, and loudly. No wonder Rajeev had freaked out at the diner so much when Spencer had told him who had visited.
Arriving at the diner a few moments later things seemed to be normal once again between them, at least, until Spencer remembered the club date. "S-So, uh, s-see you tonight," Spencer stuttered, wishing away the blush he knew he had. Billy merely grinning, leaning forward to place a soft and sweet kiss on the other's forehead, gentle smile on his face, "Yeah, see you tonight, Spencer."
When Rajeev came outside to check where Spencer was he found the man collapsed on the ground, large blush on his face as he held a hand to his heart. "Whoa, man, what happened?" Spencer looked up at him, blush increasing even more as his mind replayed what had happened.
"Goddamn Billy Joe Cobra is what happened."
::
Spencer sighed, leaning his head on his arms. He wasn't really the club type, which was a shame because everyone else was having a blast. Shanilla was playing a drinking game with a group of middle-aged bikers and winning, Rajeev was pestering the DJ every two seconds, and Billy was dominating the dance floor. And then here he was. Alone. With a simple coke.
To be fair he hadn't agreed to be designed driver until he had seen that everyone had already been three drinks in, discounting Shanilla, who was eleven drinks in and still going strong. He was sure the bikers were either going to kill her or ask her to join their gang. Most likely the latter.
"Brooo!" And there was Billy. Spencer sighed as the older wrapped his arms around his shoulders, nuzzling into his neck, "Broo! What are you doing?! This is a dance club! You have to dance, it's like, dance law!" Spencer flinched at the nuzzles, trying not to move. He was sure if he did he'd be dragging the man in for a kiss because goddammit of course he had gone for Spencer's weak point.
"Uh, not really my thing, Billy," Spencer mumbled out, the other moving to place light kisses on his cheek. Damn, he was an affectionate drunk. That could end badly for him. "I-I don't really know how to dance- Eek!" Okay. Okay, biting the neck was too far. Way too far. He could see why Billy always got away with things, it was too hard to say no to him, "A-Alright! Alright! I'll dance!"
"Great!" Billy grinned, placing one last kiss to Spencer's cheek before he pulled him towards the dance floor, lights dimming as a slower, but still upbeat, song came on. "Oo! This is a good one!"
"I-I don't really know about this man," Spencer mumbled, only very slightly swaying to the music, "I don't dance, at all. Ever."
"That's cause you're not feeling the groove!" Billy huffed, Spencer acutely aware of just how warm Billy was as the other's hands settled on his hips. He was also aware of just how close Billy was. "Just relax and follow my lead, okay?" Spencer half-nodded, Billy's hands moving his hips in time to the beat as the swayed back and forth. It wasn't even a minute later before Spencer threw caution to the winds and wrapped his arms around Billy's neck.
He'd blame it on the alcohol if he was asked about it. Although considering how giggly Billy was he wasn't sure if the star would even remember the night. Billy merely grinned as they moved, kissing the other's forehead as he led them around the dance floor. Even if nothing were to come of their feelings they could at least enjoy little moments like these.
::
"Damn, little sis can drink!" Billy laughed loudly and freely, helping Spencer shove the two siblings into the back of their car. Rajeev looked somewhat okay, doing nothing more than declaring his undying and everlasting love for Lolo, and muttering something about flying pigs. Shanilla however was giggling and clutching the wad of cash she won. "Do you think she won a lot?"
"They asked her to join their motorcycle gang," Spencer snorted, shutting the door on the two siblings. "They were impressed that her liver wasn't destroyed after all the drinking she had done, so, um, yeah, I think she won a lot."
"Well! Good for her! And that was so fun!" Billy laughed, arms wrapped around Spencer again as the smaller tugged him towards the passenger seat, trying not to blush at the wandering hands. Damn musicians. "Yeah yeah, just get in the car you goof," Spencer sighed, opening the door for him.
"Wha- Noo! Let me drive!" Billy whined, nuzzling into the back of Spencer's neck as one of his hands slipped under the other's shirt, Spencer smacking it firmly and grinning as it retreated. "No way in hell are you driving as drunk as you are. Besides, I've seen you drive a bike sober, god knows what you'll do to a car."
Steering the quiet man into his seat Spencer blinked as Billy's forehead was suddenly leaning against his, the other having jerked him down, "Hey, Spence, there's this charity ball thing I gotta do, like, I have no choice. Would you, uh, well, maybe wanna go with? I don't really have anyone else."
"I-I-" Spencer swallowed, blushing at Billy's innocent expression, which, no, that was not fair. "I don't know man, I-I'm not really good at these things, like, at all. I don't even have anything to wear!" Billy, not quite seeing straight, grabbed Spencer's hand instead of his wrist like he normally did, "That's okay, we can go clothes shopping! And no arguing from you, I'll buy this time!"
The heat, the smile, the sweet look, the closeness, Spencer was going to do something he'd regret later if he didn't get the hell out of there. "F-Fine, y-yeah, I'll go." After a sweet kiss to the tip of his nose Billy willingly, albeit slowly, pulled his seat belt on, snuggling in his seat as he passed out.
It wasn't until Spencer had started the car and was driving a load of passed out drunks home that he let out a pained whine. He had just made two dates with Billy, and he didn't even know how it had happened. He couldn't really blame any alcohol, at least, not on his part.
Glancing over at the snoozing man, who looked more adorable than he should, Spencer sighed, glaring at the road. "This ball is either going to end really really badly or really-"
Or really what...
Fucking hate the pieces of shit who rag on me for stuff that's not my fault... Bleeeh, ignore me. Next chapter will be up who knows when!
