The next day, Becky was overseeing the arrest of the Butcher after a long, heated battle. She glanced over her shoulder to see someone walking out of the library. She turned to investigate this familiar figure, and once she realized who it was, she slapped herself.

"Crap, I was supposed to meet Violet at the library!" She muttered. She zoomed over to the angry Violet to try and apologize for being so late, completely forgetting that she was still Wordgirl.

"Violet I am so sorry, I totally forgot about our plans to study for that math test at the library! The Butcher was robbing the bank again, and I was going to make it but I got so caught up…" She rambled.

"What do you mean, Wordgirl? I was supposed to meet Becky here, not you." Violet asked, confused. Becky mentally slapped herself. Crap. Duh, idiot, you're still Wordgirl!

"O-oh, right…well, Becky wanted me to tell you that she was on her way to the library but she had to stop at the bank first and the butcher was robbing it and so she got stuck there and had to go home for dinner and wanted me to tell you, and I forgot to meet you here and tell you, but I forgot to tell you because I was fighting the Butcher…yeah, that's what I meant." Becky said, thinking up a quick lie.

"Oh…she has a phone, why didn't she just text me?" Violet asked, still a little confused.

"Uh…her phone was…uhh…dead. Yeah. Her phone died." Wordgirl quickly lied.

"Oh. Okay. That's understandable. I'll see her tomorrow then…thanks for sending the message, Wordgirl." Violet said, beginning her walk home.

Wordgirl, who had been hovering above the ground whilst talking, sank down to the ground.

"Ugh, Huggy, I'm such a bad friend. I can't believe I missed another study session. This month alone I've missed 10 study sessions, 15 plans to hang out, and as if that's not bad enough, I missed her birthday party last week because I was fighting Dr. Two Brains. I feel awful." Becky said. She picked Huggy up and began flying home.

Bob squeaked a response.

"I know I don't mean to miss out on hanging out with her, but I feel bad every time I have to think up some stupid lie that makes me look like a bad friend. Or worse, it might seem like I just don't want to hang out with her." Becky explained. Bob squeaked again.

"Tell her my secret identity? No, that's much too risky. What if she ends up getting in danger because she knows who I am? Like, what if she starts helping me in battle, so villains decide to kidnap her to provoke me or to get away with a crime? What if, because of this, I can't save her? I don't want to risk losing anyone just so they can know my secret." Becky explained.

Bob squeaked.

"I don't know…you really think so? I mean, I know I'm capable of protecting her, like I am everyone else, but…I mean, I don't know. I've never actually willingly told anyone my secret identity before. Bampy knows, and is okay with it, but Violet's different. What if I tell her and suddenly I intimidate her too much with my being a superhero? What if she feels like she can't be friends with me anymore? What if she hates me for lying to her for so long when she's trusted me all this time? I-I don't know, I'm just a little scared of what she'll think." Becky explained.

Bob squeaked again.

"I guess you're right, maybe I'm just paranoid…I don't know, though. I have to really think about it for a while…" Becky said. When the two approached the front door, they transformed back into Becky and Bob and walked inside.

"Becky, where have you been? You didn't come home from school?" Sally asked, a bit worried.

"Oh, I was studying for a test…in the library…I guess." Becky said, not even bothering to come up with an elaborate lie to explain her whereabouts, as she wasn't in the mood.

"You don't sound very sure of that. Is everything okay?" Sally asked.

"Yeah, everything's fine, why do you ask?" Becky asked, not at all sounding happy.

"TJ, why don't you go play in your room for a little bit?" Tim asked as he nodded to Sally, the two having a silent understanding.

TJ went to his room, knowing what his parents were going to say.

"Becky, we've been worried lately. We're worried you're not telling us something important, that you're shutting us out of something that would be best to tell us about. Is it…is it about your real parents?" Sally asked delicately.

"What? No, nothing's wrong, I'm just tired from…studying all afternoon. That's all, I promise…" Becky explained.

"Are you sure?" Tim asked.

"Yes, I'm sure. Look, I have a lot more homework to do, I'll be in my room." Becky said, running upstairs.

Real parents? Where did they get that idea?

Becky closed her bedroom door behind her.

As she looked out her bedroom window, she saw kids walking the street with their parents, babies in strollers being walked by their mothers, and other things of the sort.

Seeing all these things sort of locked her mother's words into her head.

Your real parents.

Of course there was a natural curiosity about her parents, but she never thought she'd act on it. She'd thought about it previously, but it would only be brief thoughts that passed through her mind, gone as quickly as they came.

But now she just kept thinking about it. What do they look like? Do they still miss me? Do they love me?

I have a family, why do I care about the ones I don't know anything about?

Before her thoughts could continue, Becky's phone rang.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Becky! I heard you couldn't make it to the library, are you okay?" Violet asked.

"Yeah, Vi, I'm fine. Thanks for worrying, though. Sorry I couldn't make it, I got so caught up in the action…" Becky explained.

"That's okay, I understand. Crimes happen, it's not your fault you became witness of one. We can always reschedule."

"Actually, can we reschedule for tomorrow after school? I need to talk to you. And it's important." Becky said.

"Sure, meet me at my locker after class and we can walk home together."

"Thanks, Violet. You're a great friend."

"It's my pleasure, Becky."

Becky smiled as she hung up. Hearing her massive amounts of support was so humbling to Becky that she saw that there was no way, no matter the flight risk, she couldn't not tell Violet about her secret identity.

The next day at school, Becky was sitting on the playground, gently pushing herself with her foot, when Tobey sat down on the swing next to her.

"Hey, Becky." He said quietly. Becky glanced over to him.

"Oh, hey Tobey." She said, looking back to the ground. "What's up?"

"Oh, I have a teeny tiny favor to ask." Tobey asked. "I've heard from Wordgirl that you know her. Is this true?"

"Yeah, I talk to her every once in a while. Why, what do you need?" Becky asked, curious.

"I need you to pass along a message to her. I need to tell her something, so I ask you to ask her if she can meet me later this afternoon." Tobey explained.

Becky looked over to him in surprise.

"Why don't you just cause a little racket with your robots to get her to see you?" She asked curiously.

"I…don't want to do that anymore." Tobey said.

Becky smiled after a moment of silence passed through.

"I'll pass the message along." She said as her cheeks grew a bit rosy.

Tobey smiled back at her.

After school, Becky met Violet at her locker and they began their walk towards Becky's house.

"So what did you need to tell me that's so important?" Violet asked.

"Well…there's something…important that you don't know about me…" Becky began nervously.

"What is it?" Violet asked.

"Well…I'm…" Becky looked around. No one within earshot. She continued. "I'm Wordgirl."

Violet was silent for a moment.

"You…you are?" She asked, sounding pretty stunned.

"Yes. A-and if you don't believe me, I'll prove it. I can take you to my spaceship hideout and transform where no one else will see." Becky rambled nervously.

"Becky, relax, I believe you." Violet said. "I've always kind of suspected it. Don't get me wrong, it's not all that obvious, I just looked closer than people care to look. But I want you to know that I totally understand everything now. I understand why you're so absent all the time, and why you always feel bad about potentially letting us down and not being able to say why. I understand why you would hold back from telling me, or anyone. You don't have to explain yourself. I'm just proud of you for finally telling someone." Violet said. Becky smiled and hugged her friend.

"You're the best friend I could ever hope for, Violet. Thank you so much. Oh, it feels so good to get that off my chest! You have no idea how long I've been holding this back." Becky said. Violet smiled as the two sat down on a park bench.

"I've been keeping this whole side of my life a secret for my whole life. Well, not my entire life, just the thirteen years I've been here. But it's been so hard. Every day for thirteen years I've just been lying and lying to the people I care about. And after doing it for so long, it's just kind of been engrained into me that I'm a miserable person. Miserable, untrustworthy, awful. That's who I am." Becky explained sadly.

"Becky, you're none of those things. You lied for a good reason, you're just trying to protect the people you care about. Becky, you have such a big heart. You have such a large capacity for love, that no one could possibly hate you. No one could even think poorly of you. Not even the villains you face every day think that badly of you. Heck, the only reason they don't like you is because you foil their plans." Violet explained.

"Becky, there's no reason for you to think badly of yourself. There are so many people who love you. Ask anyone what they really think of you, and they'll tell you you're intelligent, kind, caring, and the friendliest person they've ever met. Hey, you even got Tobey to go good." Violet said.

"You really think so?" Becky asked happily. Violet nodded.

Becky hugged her once more. With her sudden mention of the blonde-haired genius, Becky began thinking about him.

"You're the best, you know that?" Becky said. Violet smiled.

"I know."

Then Beck suddenly jumped out of her seat.

"Oh gosh, I totally forgot! I need to meet Tobey right now! He asked me to tell Wordgirl to find him! I gotta go, Violet, I'll call you later! Thanks again for everything!" She exclaimed as she zoomed off, transforming into Wordgirl as she flew off. Violet simply smiled and headed home.

On a rooftop downtown, Tobey was waiting for Wordgirl to appear. After waiting for a half an hour, he was starting to lose hope. Suddenly, Wordgirl came flying in, hovering over the edge of the building he was standing on.

"I was told you have something to tell me?" She asked, folding her arms and furrowing her brow in doubt.

"Yes." He said, very timidly. "I want you to know that i've given up on being evil."

Becky's eyes grew wide.

"Really? For real?" She asked. Tobey nodded.

"Let's just say I've seen the error of my ways, and I've changed. I'll never use my robots against anything ever again. I'm completely good now." Tobey explained.

"How am I supposed to believe you?" Becky asked, still somehow skeptical.

"Well, you know what I was like when I was younger. Mean, cold, annoying, unforgiving, dreaming to have something way out of my league…" He said. "And I didn't have real friends. I had robots. I thought, hey, I have nothing to lose, everyone hates me anyways. But then…someone gave me a second chance. Someone saw the good in me and pulled it out. She showed me how great it was to be good. She showed me the light, so to speak. And I realized how rotten and miserable I'd been to you…so I'd like to apologize. For all the grief I may have caused you. You truly don't deserve it."

Becky's arms dropped to her sides. Suddenly neither side of her could see him as anything but a great person. She couldn't see any hint of trickery or deceit, or evil in his eyes. There was only love an caring and friendship.

"You really mean that, don't you…" She said in wonder.

"Yes, I do. I'm very lucky to have a friend like her. She's shown me the good parts of life. She showed me that having friends is better than being alone, being miserable, and being the way I was. I am forever thankful for her." Tobey explained. Becky smiled.

"Becky's just as lucky to have a friend as great as you." Wordgirl said, without thinking that he didn't tell her who the friend was.

"How did you know it's Becky?" He asked, confused.

"O-oh, I was able to figure it out. I've seen you guys hanging out while I've been fighting crime…" Becky quickly lied. "But she really is lucky, you know. You've been a great friend to her when she needed one. Sometimes when we talk she tells me how awful she feels about herself sometimes, and when Violet can't be there to help her, you're there to make her feel better. You've lifted her spirits so much. She's just as lucky to have you as you are to have her."

Tobey smiled.

"Thank you, Wordgirl. I hope we can forget about our nasty past and start a wonderful friendship." He said happily. Wordgirl smiled.

Tobey held out his hand for her to shake. Wordgirl grabbed it and they shook hands. But before he could let go, she wrapped her arms around him in a hug. Tobey, surprised at first, hugged her back.

"Anybody would be lucky to have a friend as great as you." She said. She let him go and smiled briefly before flying off.

After that day, life went on as it would for years to come: Violet and Bampy were the only two to know about Wordgirl's secret identity, Tobey and Becky were close friends, and Tobey vowed never to go near his robots again. He and Wordgirl wouldn't encounter each other for another year. Becky would continue to think about her birth parents more and more over time. But all was as it should be…that is, until Becky's decision to leave Earth would shake up her life...but that's a different story, and kind of a scary thought.

WOOOOOOW that ending was cheesy as ever. But alas, that's all I have for this story! But I have a sequel idea for Scary Thoughts, so stay tuned for that! Should be interesting :D (knowing me, though, it may not come soon)
