Chapter 9- Fate

James Potter entered 's through the street entrance that muggles were oblivious to. He sat down on the same chair that he always occupied whenever he was inside the building- whether it be for Harry's birth, Noah's birth, or the horrible situation that he found himself in right now. He had not heard of any news since yesterday, when it was his turn to take Noah home after he had donated some magical powers to his brother, Harry. Today, however, Lily had finally decided to take a break, and had apparated back home, after some persuading from James, Remus, and Sirius. While there had been no news about Harry, he had seen in The Daily Prophet that Pettigrew had finally been captured. James was disgusted at the thought of Peter. How could his friend betray him like that? Alas, none of that mattered now. Peter was in his rightful place- Azkaban. Meanwhile, there were reports of numerous confirmed Death Eaters seemingly disappearing off the Earth. While James knew this was not true, he also understood that the Death Eaters were fleeing- whether it be from the light side or from Lord Voldemort- even though he was no longer alive. Some cowardly Death Eaters were begging for mercy- and Dumbledore was even giving it to some of them, which the dark-haired man strongly disagreed with. James, however, had no say in these things and could only capture the Death Eaters to fulfill his duty as an Auror. James sat outside Harry's room for a few hours, contemplating these thoughts, until a healer finally came outside.

She was a red-haired girl, with sparkling eyes and a kind face, who seemed to perk up at the sight of James Potter, father of the "Boy-Who-Lived". The healer cleared her throat and said, "Mr. Potter, if you will please follow me."

James stood up and brushed off his cloak before nodding and falling behind the healer so that she could lead the way. Once they passed a certain brown door, James threw his head back and turned around in confusion. "Er, I thought this is my son's room."

"No, sir, he was actually moved to another room after you and your wife left with your son. He had some changes in his health, so we saw it fit to transfer him. But I'm afraid I don't know what these changes are," the nurse responded, answering James' second question before he could ask it.

James nodded in understanding and proceeded to follow the healer down the hall. Finally, when they walked for a few more minutes, they had reached a door. Before entering, James let his eyes travel down the corridor and asked, "Is this hall never-ending?" The healer nodded. James almost laughed, for he couldn't believe that he wasn't expecting this. After all, he had lived his whole life in the Wizarding World. James took a deep breath and unlocked the door with his wand before stepping in. He waited for the girl to follow, but he could already see her red hair trailing behind her as she left the corridor to attend to another patient's family. James shook his head, muttering about how confusing some people could be, and stepped in the room. The first thing he saw was a few talented wizards extracting certain memories and powers from his son. Then, he saw rainbow-colored spikes surrounding Harry in a protective bubble. He cleared his throat to announce his appearance and the head wizard turned around in greeting.

"Hello, Mr. Potter. Please, come here." The doctor waved James over to the crib-like bed that Harry was sleeping in. The doctor corked Harry's memories in a bottle and did the same with the sample of his powers. James noticed that his son's green eyes were showing and he was looking up with a mix of relief and anger. The healer was surprised that such a young boy could hold such intensity in a single gaze. "Mr. Potter," the wizard continued, "Harry has woken up from his coma. This in itself is not a great achievement, however, since we could've roused him with the flick of a wand. While he was in some pain, he was not screaming out in agony, and there were no fatal wounds that we could detect. We did not notice any marks on his body to indicate that he was hit with the killing curse- of course, this is normal, since the killing curse does not leave any marks. However, and I do not know how to say this, Harry should be dead. Against all odds, Harry has survived. My team of wizards then decided to conduct a more extensive research, and after some spells, we noticed this." The healer gently lifted a tuft of Harry's jet- black hair to reveal a lightning bolt-shaped scar. The healer continued once again, "Other than this scar, we have not found any other reasons to keep him here. The donation is complete, and while Harry is weak, he can go home again. We will try to see what this scar means, and we will come to your house for some checkups on Harry, but that is all the information we have."

James nodded and said, "Thank you, for all you've done. Should I take him now?"

"Yes, you just have to sign out. Oh yes, I forgot to mention- we will try to read these memories to see if anything formed the scar. Also, we will run tests of Harry's power by using this sample and we will tell you the information that we found out when we come for Harry's first home checkup, which will be in 3 days."

"Okay. I will see you then. Goodbye." James said, ready to part from the hospital once and for all.

"Goodbye, Mr. Potter. And may fate work in your favor."
