A/N: Hello! It has been over a month since I have updated. I feel terrible that I was not able to write a Christmas one-shot, but I managed to make a New Year's Eve story! Although I missed out on writing a Christmas one-shot, I am still going to post a few winter stories that are filled with fun activities.

I hope you all enjoy this one-shot, my grandma made up the storyline and title. Don't forget to leave a little review for me...

Disclaimer: I do not own Star Trek...

12:01 Goodnight

"Spock," Captain Kirk spoke as he set shiny party hats on a decorative table. "It's New Year's Eve! You're supposed to stay up really late and party."

Commander Spock stood in an at ease position a few feet away from his comrade. "Captain, must I remind you for the third time that tomorrow morning we are expecting an important visit from the commissioner about our crewmembers?" the Vulcan asked. "As one of the head representatives of the USS Enterprise, I cannot compromise my duty and attend your party."

Kirk set the last hat on the table and turned around to face his first commanding officer. "Well, I'm sure the entire Starfleet command is going to celebrate tonight and won't get any sleep," he chuckled thoughtfully. "I won't be surprised if the commissioner arrives tomorrow and tries to sleep in the Captain's Chair."

Spock tilted his head at a slight angle. "Jim, just because my peers are partying tonight does not mean that I should participate and allow myself to lose sleep. One of us needs to be well presented tomorrow morning."

Kirk sighed and tried to keep his composure; Spock was being especially stubborn today. It was the first year of the USS Enterprise's five year mission, and he wanted to kick off the end of the first year with a huge party. But unfortunately, Spock was not familiar with the American customs of New Year's Eve and the Vulcan thought that the tradition of partying all night was, of course, 'highly illogical'.

"What if you just stay at the party for a couple of hours?" he questioned. "Or at least until midnight..."

Spock pondered the captain's offer. "Very well, I will stay at the party until the New Year arrives," the Vulcan confirmed, "Then I will retire to my quarters."

Kirk beamed and slapped Spock's shoulder. "You, retire? I think you're a little too young for that." He chuckled as Spock lifted an eyebrow. "I'll see you tonight, commander."

Kirk watched Spock leave the room and then turned back around to un-wrap the paper plates and plastic utensils.

"Welcome!" Kirk called out to his guests as they entered the party room. "Glad you could come!"

Soon the room was full with partying crewmates. Kirk stood in a corner surveying everyone with his arms crossed over his chest; he was very pleased with himself. The crew seemed to be enjoying the activities he had set up as well as the refreshments. Multiple people were surrounding a small box as they wrote down their New Year's resolutions. Kirk smirked with amusement; little did his friends know that he was going to hold them accountable to the little notes they were dropping in box.

Captain Kirk glanced at the door as it slid open. The captain's icy blue eyes followed Spock as his officer strode in along with Lieutenant Uhura. Uhura walked towards a table that was overflowing with kazoos, hats, and several other noise makers and gingerly placed a sparkly hat on top of Spock's head. The Vulcan didn't seem too happy about the headpiece but didn't complain so as not to annoy his girlfriend.

After a few more minutes of studying his guests, Kirk decided to go to the punch bowl to get a drink and chat with the pretty new nurse that had stunning auburn curls.

Hours later, Spock sat on a comfortable couch with Nyota. He watched as a few crewmembers took turns on the karaoke machine. A blonde haired ensign laughed as she sang the last line of a popular song and handed the microphone over to a technical engineer.

However, before the new song could even begin, Captain Kirk ran up to the red shirt and grabbed the microphone from him. "Alright everyone," He said. "We can all get back to singing in just a moment. But right now, it is 11:58!" he exclaimed as everyone cheered at the news.

"That's right, only two minutes until midnight." He confirmed. "Now, before we begin the countdown to the New Year, please go find that special someone to share a kiss with at exactly 12:00."

The room burst into commotion as the crew scattered about to find their special someone. Uhura adjusted her multi-colored tiara, touched Spock's arm, and snuggled in close to him. Spock did the same and waited patiently for midnight. He watched as Captain Kirk clasped hands with Doctor McCoy's new nurse and led her to the front.

"Okay members of the USS Enterprise," he announced. "Let's begin the countdown to the second year of our five year voyage." He grinned as he moved away from the screen showing the seconds until midnight.

Everyone began to count together in unison:

Ten

Nine

Eight

Seven

Six

Five

Four

Three

Two

One

"Happy New Year!" the people cheered.

Uhura smiled as she titled her head toward Spock. The Vulcan met her eyes and gently pressed his lips to hers as celebration consumed the room in what seemed to be an ever-lasting moment.

"Happy New Year!" Kirk called out. His arm was wrapped around the red headed nurse, her face bright red. "Let's keep partying!" he prompted as he handed the microphone back to the tall engineer.

Kirk looked at the still blushing young woman and playfully pulled on one of her bouncing, fiery locks. He winked at her while giving her his most dashing smile. Jim faintly heard her giggle as he headed back over to the snack table. He took a carrot, dipped it in dressing, and popped it into his mouth.

While chewing, someone tapped his shoulder. Kirk swallowed and faced Commander Spock.

"Hey Spock, are you enjoying the party?" he asked as he ate another carrot. "Aren't you glad you came?"

Spock clasped his hands behind his back. "Yes, Captain. I found the celebration quite fascinating," he stated.

Kirk smiled. "Good, do you want to go with me to write down our New Year's resolutions?"

Spock furrowed his eyebrows in question. "No, Jim, I am here to inform you that it is precisely 12:01, exactly one minute since midnight struck." He proclaimed. "I have fulfilled my orders from you and I am now going to rest for our inspection. I came to bid you goodnight."

Jim's smiled disappeared. "Fine," he said defeated. "At least you were here for a while." He shrugged. "Goodnight, commander."

Spock nodded. "Goodnight, Captain," he replied. "I will see you in six hours and fifty-nine minutes."

With that, the Vulcan turned around and exited the room. He was still wearing his festive party hat.
