Mitobe winced as he rotated his shoulder. The sun flames healed most of the damaged wound, but for some reason it still ached. The boy blew at his short bangs, it left a scar. When he received his evaluation from Bouche, he didn't know how to take it, he got a C. That wasn't good enough, not for him.
"Bouche! Give me another chance! Surely there's another mission I can take up."
The older mist shook his head. "There isn't one of your level currently. Don't take it too hard. You did better than what could have happened."
"Bouche, a C is not satifac-"
"Then learn from your mistakes and do it better next time. Reread the evaluation." Bouche turned his back and walked away, back to his job no doubt. Mitobe ran his fingers through his hair and let out a distasteful groan.
Mitobe has finished all of his school work, which meant he was free from virtual school. He was debating if he wanted to take college courses, everything he needs he can literally learn from books and people in the mafia.
He later signed up for some classes featuring technology and engineering later that month. Although he still put more time into his illusion studies, he still manage to get by with a passing grade.
College life, wasn't like anything Mitobe thought it would be like, although that's mainly because he refused to talk to anyone in his class and usually leave as soon as he can. But that's alright, he didn't really care.
He continued his relationship with Hibari, their conversations have been more frequent and longer which leads Mitobe to think that Hibari might actually miss him. It brought a smile to his face every time his phone would ring.
Mitobe's second attempt to succeed Bouche's test was three months before his birthday, appropriate he supposed. This job will determine if he stays for another year to study illusions, or go back to Japan and accept more missions in his field.
The test would remain the same, it would determine how much he has improved on his talent as an illusionist and his ability to collect information. This time sounded more difficult, he had to go undercover this time. Mitobe prepared himself, he'll be living in the more scandalous part of Italy for the maximum of two weeks to find an accomplice of a hitman who took out one of the Vongola's agent.
Mitobe felt more nervous about this one, mostly because he'll be surrounded by criminals and drugs addict. If he was honest, drugs always made him frightened, just the possibility of "What if I took some" and the thought of never getting off.
Mitobe loaded his suit case with clothes, hiding the weapons underneath, and loaded it into his car and drove to the designated area.
His apartment was shitty to say the least. The walls were covered in spills he could not identify, it was dusty, leaking, and smelled vaguely of cigarettes. The kitchen itself was a mess, there was dead bugs in the sink, the floor littered in trash, and the bathroom wasn't even any better.
The first thing he did was clean up, obviously. Took him three days but it was worth it, but even then he deemed it was unfit to live in. The light glowed dimly as Mitobe made his bed, shoving the suitcase under it.
It was about to be 11, and that's when most of the criminals crawled out of their little hole and joined in on the nightly terrors. Mitobe dressed casually, a plain black jacket, jeans and converse. His switch blade in his pocket, gun tucked under his pants, the informant took a deep breath and made his way outside.
Each of his nights starts by going around the neighborhood, trying to find a lead, not that he was incapable, but it was simply tiring having to deal with people who smelled of drugs and fresh sex. On one of his run, he had to talk to a guy...who was banging a lady against the wall and insisted they continued their business right there as they had their conversation. Mitobe wanted to shoot himself.
There was a lack of manners, he ran into at least three fights within his first week and lunch was the only thing he really had to look forward to. Every morning, he would send Bouche a report and on his second week, he was getting closer.
He manged to find the man he was looking for, a simple assassination wouldn't be too hard, but he had to move fast or else he would be the one taken out. If some one was good enough to be involve in the murder of a Vongola officer, they were bound to be powerful, and Mitobe could not bare that.
Although his second test was a success, the fight with his target did not go on with out casualty. He received a wound that scared him for the rest of his life. A large gash on his lower abdomen, leading from his hipbone above his belly button before trailing off.
His opponent used more dirty tricks than Mitobe could count, the man specialized in throwing daggers and far distance fighting, though he was more dangerous up close. It was hard enough to get close to him but to take him down was another thing.
Fortunately for him, he passed the test and although he did not come out unscratched, he was alive and he proved to his teacher that he was capable of handling himself in his field. He received a B, which was acceptable.
Another year goes by and Mitobe still keeps up with his contacts, he recently found Daiki and Daichi again, the twins from his new paper club that was also involved in the Mafia, probably even before him. They meet up every now and then to trade stories or to simply catch up, Mitobe was more than happy to see a familiar face from Namimori. Leo has his work cut out for him, once again, he has fallen into the job of cleaning up after other people (the Varia) and Mitobe was starting to realize they were nothing more than a bunch of whiny brats who some how gained the skills to be acknowledge as super assassins in the Mafia world...
He counts the days until his release from Italy and return to Japan, back with Tsuna, and Gokudera, and Yamamoto, and everyone he loved and held dearly to his heart, and back to Hibari. Who deserved a special place despite being a little piece of shit.
During the three years he had left, things has changed drastically, not for the worst or anything just changes and renovations. Crimes have gone down, though the level of the crude birthrate has fallen and the people were living longer but their population was declining.
The head quarter for the Japanese base was built, in the same place as in the future, Tsuna thought it might be a better idea than to not have one, just in case of attacks, he was still iffy about the events that happened in the future even thought Byakuran has sworn to change ways. It did not eliminate the possibility of another war against the Vongola and Tsuna wanted to be ready.
The boy has finally come to term that he has no choice but to be the next boss, and he grown into his shoes. He has already decided that it was okay because he knew what he was fighting for, he knew what he wanted, and that was simply peace and to protect his friends.
His guardians were there to back him right up, if anything they were more willing to kill everyone who opposed him, but that was okay. Not really.
Tsuna had the official inheritance ceremony when he was 19, by then the ninth was in a wheel chair and ill, but he still smiled when he gave Tsuna the position of the future boss. The ceremony was in Japan, and after what happened last time, security was tighter and all eyes were watching. All the allies of the Vongola came, and it mean that Mitobe would be back in Japan to visit his friends. He rode on the plane with Bouche and the other guardians, helping them set up the castle and ordering food and making sure each family was seated appropriately.
Unfortunately he had no free time and could not meet up with any of his old friends, if anything he was nervous. What if he changed too much, what if he's gotten boring? What if he runs into his family?
That thought broke him down and left him in a bad mood for the rest of the day. The only one he would even be willing to see is Misaki, he wondered how his little brother have grown, if he's well...how he's doing.
He's probably taller than him right now, no doubt that same little kid is more mature and well rounded than his poor disappointment of a brother. He wanted to see him.
He wasn't going to let go.
"Get of of him already!"
Nope, wasn't going to let go. Not yet.
"Come on now, I know it's been a while but..."
Not working.
Why is he turning blue?
"Tsunayoshi?"
Mitobe pulled back from his hug, which lasted approximately seven minutes, he counted.
What a reunion.
"Oh god Tsunayoshi, bless your soul you're still shorter than me. Oh how you've grown, just let me hold you. I'm so fucking emotional right now. Hayato hold me."
"Fuck no."
Yamamoto let out a laugh and patted Mitobe on the back, "Now now, we've missed you too but you should stop crying."
Mitobe turned to Yamamoto and offered a smile blowing his nose unattractively like a hoot of an elephant into a handkerchief from his pocket making Gokudera give him a disgusted face. It felt so good to be back with his companions, but he felt jealous because he didn't get to share his high school with them or grow up together and form and deeper bond.
"Tsunayoshi, you're nevous aren't you?" Mitobe asked, stating the obvious, the brunette has grown out of his dorky looking stage and became very attractive, but Mitobe knew better than to say that out loud.
"You can tell?" Tsuna replied tugging at his shirt a bit.
"It'll be fine! You're going to be an extreme boss!" Ryohei confirmed, giving a big thumbs up. Chrome simply nodded her head.
"Where's Lambo?" Mitobe asked looking around noticing there was a lack of screaming and crying.
"I think he ran off with I-pin not too long ago..." Chrome replied.
"Is that safe?" Mitobe paniced.
"Ahaha! It's okay! My sister and Haru are with them!" Ryohei chimed.
"I don't mean to be rude, but do you know if Kyoya is going to be here?" The informant asked shyly not wanting to make it look like Tsuna's special day wasn't important to him. The future boss didn't mind, he smiled softly, the smile that makes a hermit want to get married and have a family you know? That one.
"Reborn made a special offer. He'll be here, no doubt until the actual ceremony, but he'll be here."
Mitobe nodded.
"Yeah, you and that freak are kind of together aren't you?" Gokudera teased.
"At least I'm not living alone and dying alone."
"You will if you take that tone with me."
"Fuck you Hayato."
"Right back at you, you damn stalker dog."
"Well if you're offering." Mitobe joked moving his hand to undo his belt teasingly earning a very red silver hair bomber.
There was snickering and laughter from the group, making Gokudera throw Mitobe a nasty glare.
Was it ever god to be back home.
"How is Reborn doing?" Mitobe asked, breaking the joyful air, he haven't seen Reborn at all, and had no idea how the hitman was doing.
"He's good. He's growing...well, returning to his normal form. It's taking a told on him, he's always aching..." Tsuna explained, a small stiff laughter making it's way out.
The ceremony repeated as it did last time, the grand room, oath...and this time, no one was attacking anyone. Mitobe spotted Hibari in the very back of the room, watching the ceremony. Mitobe waved it him, Hibari ignored it.
Once the ceremony was over, Mitobe ran to meet up with the sky lark, seeing as he was about to leave.
"Kyoya!" He shouted, running up to the cloud guardian, throwing his arms around him, giving the taller male a hug from behind. Mitobe hid his face into Hibari's back, taking in the scent.
"God...I miss you so much." He confessed, voice breaking a little.
The skylark didn't say anything, he turned around the pulled the informant into his chest, returning the hug.
"You text me every day and practically my entire inbox is because of you."
"Oh god damn it Kyoya, I haven't seen you for like three years and you go and pull this crap. Can't you be more romantic."
"If you were looking for someone like that then you definitely shouldn't be with me."
Mitobe smiled and pulled at Hibari's tie, bringing their lips together briefly. "But I want to. Stupid as that sounds...You know neither of us is good with this romance shit..."
Mitobe ran his fingers through Hibari's hair, it got shorter. "Come join the celebration. It's Tsunayoshi's special day."
The skylark shook his head. "You know I hate crowding. I only came because Reborn requested it."
"You're leaving so soon?"
Hibari nodded.
"I'm staying." Mitobe replied, feeling it would be improper to skip out on the party. He hasn't seen the rest of the guardians in forever, it would be unfair to leave them all for Hibari.
"I'll meet up with you later okay?"
Hibari shrugged and walked away. Mitobe bit his lip to hide a smile, he totally missed him. If he wasn't imagining it, there might of have even been a pout.
The after party consisted of Mitobe catching up with his friends. Things have been peaceful in Japan, that was abnormal.
The Guardians have been continuing their training and getting stronger. Mitobe had already made promises for more spars and matches with Yamamoto, Gokudera, and Ryohei. He wanted to show them how much stronger he got, how much better. He wanted to show them the strength he earned from his hard work, the same strength that will make them acknowledge him as a powerful comrade, able to fight on the same field. With that same strength, he wanted to protect the Vongola.
