These one shots are not necessarily interrelated but some might be occurring in the same alternate universe!
33%
The weather report had predicted a thirty-three percent chance of rain, hardly a statistic to worry about, but there Haru stood, stranded under the awning of store that had the foresight to close early, glaring pitifully up at sky. Until a boy with familiar eyes and a suspicious smile came up to her and offered to share an umbrella.
Dead Wrong
He underestimated her mental fortitude. She underestimated his tenacity.
Running Away
He slammed the door in her face. He dumped her home made lunches. He slapped away her proffered hand and he laughed scornfully at her invitations. Finally, one day he decided to enough was enough and slammed her against the wall, his hand wrapped bruisingly tight over her neck.
"Next time, you won't get out of here alive."
But even with her air cut off, she stared at him with a conviction as unflinching as her gaze.
I'm not running away.
Judgement
Theirs was a friendship based on trust, respect and … gossip.
"Kufufufu, I wonder what's got Hibari's panties in a twist today."
Haru leans over conspiratorially, "I hear Dino paid him a visit yester-HAHI!" She barely dodged the tonfa that suddenly swung into where she once stood, creating gigantic cracks on the wall.
"As you were saying, herbivore?"
Seeking Solace
Every night, he visits her in her sleep and builds an extravagant world just for her. Where penguins soar the sky and pastries are served by dainty fairies, where the skies are painted her favorite shade of pink and the Namahage waits to play. And when she finally exhausts herself exploring the dream, he folds her into his arms and wipes away her tears.
Excuses
"Tell Haru! Why do you want to break up?"
Mukuro sighed. He could easily escape, Haru with her arms spread out before him could barely be considered an obstacle, but he knew she would never give up until she was appeased. She would probably chase him to the ends of the world to get a proper answer.
"I've grown bored of you, Haru. You are no longer worth the effort to maintain a relationship with."
"Liar!" Haru puffed out her chest. "I know you're lying! Your left pinkie just twitched and you do that every time you lie to me."
"I've found someone else to satisfy me."
Haru snorted. "There is no one else in the world who could stand you."
"I find the whorl in your hair ridiculous and your voice grates on my nerves."
"Haru thinks your pineapple hairstyle is stupid but Haru still loves you."
"You are part of the Vongola. I will never be involved with someone in the mafia."
"Then Haru will quit!"
"I...I..." Mukuro's hand clenched into a fist.
"Tell Haru." Haru's voice softened into a whisper. "Why do you want to break up?"
Mukuro lowered his head. "We aren't meant to be."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not right for you."
Haru laughed and walked up to him, her fingers easing his fist open to intertwine their fingers. "You are perfect for me."
Vengeance
Revenge is sweet.
Haru smiled against his lips and when his mouth opened slightly in shock she slipped her tongue in to swipe at his teeth.
So sweet.
Love
They say he is incapable of love but she sees it in the curve of his smile. She sees it in the curl of his fingers and the valley of his collarbone. She sees it in the way he grips his trident and casts his illusions that can bend and break people if he so desires, but also weave her most wild dreams.
In Mukuro she sees love, and to anyone who thinks otherwise... well they could bugger off.
Tears
Haru has been blind since birth.
It never bothered her in the slightest though. She never saw herself as "disabled" and she can still lead her life normally, in fact she gets the sweetest guide dog ever. But she has wondered what it means to see. A little nagging in the back of her head that wants to know how it would feel like. When Mukuro offered to show her, she grabbed at the opportunity despite knowing that there must have been an underlying motive to this unexpected act of generosity.
She had always wondered how the sunset looked like.
Through whatever voodoo magic Mukuro possessed –Haru majored in computer science, not physics – he projected the image in her mind.
To say the least, it was a sensory overload. It was nothing she had ever felt before, this explosion of – of stuff. She had been taught about colors, but she never imagined this was what laid beyond the ever encompassing darkness.
It was beautiful.
Something warm trailed down her face. Was she crying?
"Kufufufu, what do you think?" She could feel his breath brushing against her ear, his voice sweetly tempting. "This doesn't have to be a one-time thing, you know. I can give this to you... return your sight to you. I know you would never take this gift for granted like so many other people do..."
Haru gulped and felt Mukuro's silent laughter against her cheek.
"All I ask for in return is your loyalty. What do you think?"
Even as her voice faltered and she felt the warning bells go off in her head, Haru knew she already had an answer, even if it meant signing a deal with the Devil, she wanted this.
"I'll do it."
My Inspiration
For the first time since he gained these abilities, he was using it for something other than manipulation and terror. It was laud-worthy. The demon child of the Estraneo using his powers to fuel the fantasies of a girl whose only exceptional trait was her ability to scream in ear-shattering octaves.
But if anyone thought his fondness for a girl who was probably more fond of cakes than of him, made him weak, then they had another thing coming for them.
If anything, as his infatuation to the girl grew, his illusions morphed into more vicious and gruesome visions.
All he had to do was imagine what he would do to anyone who dared to hurt the girl who was brave enough to smile at him.
