So this story seems to be expanding in my head, but I'm going to keep it in the drabbles for now. This is part 3, idk how much more I will do; maybe 2 or 3, maybe less. I don't know how I feel about this chapter. It's not that long but that's probably cuz I'm sitting in the campus library writing this up while I wait to go to my next class. I'll try to get out a longer chapter w/ more Caroline. She's in here, but kind of to the side.
Anyways, here is the next piece, and I hope you like it.
Leave a review if you'd like. Criticism is always welcome! (Un-Beta'd)
Enjoy! :)
Part 3
"...Collection?"
Tyler stood, dumbfounded in front of the fireplace. His thoughts racing at the possibilities of what Klaus had said.
"Yes, Lockwood. Did I stutter?" Klaus replied gruffly. Other people are so tedious most of the time. Klaus could never understand Caroline's need to keep them alive. Waste of a good feeding and a quiet room.
"What the hell is he 'collecting' female werewolves for?" Tyler snapped. Klaus backed away from the pack to lean casually against the arm chair that Caroline was seated in.
"Not so much collecting as enslaving, that's just what he likes to call it. Bit of an inside joke between him and my brother," His eyes sliding to Caroline's, "You don't want to know love."
"Werewolves have always been seen as inferior creatures. Their animalistic nature and lack of control make them less than human, they're easily subdued by witches, and they are no match for a vampires strength-"
"They won't be thinking that when we sink our teeth into them. Our venom is poisonous to those blood suckers." A middle aged man, Peter, cut in, his face twisted into a snarl. Klaus smirked at the icy glares being shot in his direction.
"That is very true. But your small victory is nothing compared to the defeat that awaits you." He relished in their scowls. "After all, what's a pack of dogs to a dying vampire with nothing to lose."
"Why don't we test that out on your girlfriend here." The man leered at Caroline. "See what a little baby can do against an entire pack-"
Peter barely finished his sentence before Klaus had his hand firmly wrapped around his throat; the slightest movement threatened to crush his windpipe as he gasped for breath. The pack was frozen in their places, torn between helping and staying alive. Klaus lifted him into the air, his feet dangling almost a foot above the ground.
"Make no mistake." He growled, fangs exposed and dark veins distended under his gold and black eyes. "If anything happens to her, all of you die."
His eyes slid to Tyler's as he spoke, daring him to interfere. "Wouldn't want a repeat of last time would we, mate?" He tossed Peter at Tyler's feet. "Keep your mutts in line, or I'll do it for you."
"Just get on with it already!" Hayley blurted in frustration. Klaus cut her a look that silenced her immediately, though she tried her best not to show it.
"Careful little wolf. Help is hard to come by these days. Especially the kind that will keep your pack from being killed off, one by one, until all that's left is what your enemy chooses to leave behind. Or take with him."
"Nik." Caroline broke in softly. She grasped his large hand and gave a small tug to pull him back to her side. "It's okay. Let's just come up with a plan, huh?" She nodded encouragingly.
"Caroline is right." Tyler agreed as he helped Peter up from his spot on the floor and back into a chair. "We need to figure out how to attack this guy and take him out."
"Wrong."
"What do you mean wrong?! You expect us all to sit here while those assholes run around trying to take one of us?" Hayley snipped.
"Yes." Klaus replied simply.
"That's bullshit!" Tyler yelled before turning to Caroline. "Care, you said you came to help us!"
"We are, Tyler." She raised her hand, signaling him to calm down. "I'm sure Klaus has a plan, right?" She inquired, brow raised.
Klaus sighed before continuing. The things he did for love. "You will all stay here – if you cut me off one more time I will tear out your tongue." He growled before Tyler could start. "Myself and Caroline will be heading into town to the local bar scene, see if we can find La Roux and whoever he's keeping company with. Shouldn't be too hard, vampires are social when they're hungry." He smirked.
"Why can't Hayley or I go with you? We're in charge of this pack not you.!" Tyler insisted.
"Because they already know who and what you are. You don't think they've done their research? How do you think a man who collects werewolves just so happened to end up in a back woods town that's full of them?" Klaus spoke pointedly, as if Tyler should know these things already. "It's not a coincidence, Lockwood. The universe is rarely so lazy."
Tyler scowled at Klaus, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "Would you at least tell us what you're looking for? Are you going to follow them?"
"No. I'm going to talk to him." Klaus collected his things and assisted Caroline with her jacket. "It's foolish to start a fight without all the facts. If I'm going to come up with one of your so called 'attacks', I need more information."
Klaus placed his hand at the small of Caroline's back and led her to the door.
"First lesson of being an alpha, Lockwood." He called over his shoulder before stepping out the door.
"Know your enemy."
There you go. Like I said, Caroline hasn't said much, but she will have more to say next chapter. Review please!
Thanks! :)
