A/N: So, I finally had the time to perfect this, I'm going to do all the chapters but I think for today this one will be enough. I'm not sure, if I feel in a writing mood I'll probably do the next one, but I have a lot of things I still need to post and perfect in my documents, well, I hope you like. Most chapters will be updated later (Probably at the end of every month), reviews are appreciated!
"Maka! I'm sorry but I need the money you forgive papa right?!" her father pleaded, clinging to her legs as if it were her life. She growled, her jaw clenching as she looked at him. She couldn't believe he just sold her as a maid to the Evans family like cattle. "Papa, do you realize what you have done? You sold me!" Tears prickled out the corner of his blue eyes, "I'm sorry, Maka!"
She sighed, even if he did do something so degrading, it is her father. No matter how stupid he was, it was her father and she had to love him...even if he was really, really stupid. "I know, papa. But you need to let go, the man is waiting for me in the carriage."
She pushed him off her legs gently, patting his head and as she pushed out the door, she looked over her shoulder and smiled. "I'll see you later, papa." He smiled, it meant more than it seemed. It meant I'll be back and I love you. She closed the door, walking over to a white carriage, grabbing her bags and jumped in.
She set her bags beside her, resting her hands in her lap. She looked up and a man sat down on the other side, his hair was a crystal moonlight with ruby eyes. "Hello, I'm Wes." She sighed "Hi." She folded her arms, gazing out the window of the carriage. Her house was there, the house she would come back to once she was done doing whatever The Evans wanted. It made her cringe that she would be working for some snotty rich people. "Your our new maid, yes?"
"Yes. You're my new…" She clenched her teeth, practically hissing out the word; "Master?" He shrugged, looking at her with his ruby eyes. "Eh, not really my parents and my brother are. Being that they are always at that castle and I have too many places to be." She blinked, her gaze turning to him. "Brother? It only said that the Evans had one son."
He blinked for a few seconds before nodding in remembrance. "Ah, yes. That. That's because my brother is well...troublesome, I guess you could say." Her eyebrows furrowed, frowning at the man named; Wes. "Troublesome?" He sighed, shaking his head "Yes, I do apologize a head of time if he acts...crude. It's just how he acts, annoying, mischievous little brat. But...he has his moments, give him the time and he'll not seem as such a jack ass as you think he is." His words were harsh but the smile that snaked their way to his lips would care to differ. She smiled. "You really do love him, don't you?"
The man's ruby eyes went wide, his face slightly flushed and he stared out the window, gazing upon the land that him and his family ruled over. It went silent the whole road but he finally said: "I do." She smiled, looking out the window, watching as the cottages and work shops flashed by. Maka liked the silence, it let her regain her thoughts and take deep breathes, just to let this whole living arrangement sink in.
The castle had to be the biggest thing Maka saw. The walls were black and in a way it was scary but still captivating and she gaped as she saw it. Angels and demon statues were all around the garden, bloody red roses were the only flower in the entire garden and a huge pond that little ducklings swam in. It was breath taking really. But even though it was glamorous, did not mean she wanted to be there.
The man that was riding the carriage stepped out, opening the door for Wes and he stepped down. Two guards stood at the entrance and Wes just had to look at them for them both to open the doors without hesitation, yeah, they were fumbling but Maka was sure that was because they were scared. The castle gates opened, making a whoosh sound from the air coming out. It smelt of cleaning supplies.
"Mother, our new maid is here." Wes said, a woman with pure white hair and beautiful Indicolite eyes stood there, talking to a maid. She looked like a goddess, her blue dress shimmered as she turned to them it looked made out of pure water. She frowned. "Hello, the bathroom needs to be mopped." She turned back, pointing over to the curtains and saying how the maid did not put it up correctly while the maid cowered behind a table.
Maka smiled irritated, she didn't know which one made her more angry, the woman bossing her around or her screaming at a poor girl that was just trying to do her job. "I'll get that done right away…mam." She looked like a peasant compared to her, her hair was silky and down up to her hips with a dress made for a god while she had her blond rugged hair stuffed in pigtails with a brown dress made for a slave.
The right door opened and a man with ruby eyes and brunette hair stepped out, wearing a tux similar to Wes's. He laughed. "Isn't she a feisty one," The man chuckled, walking over to her and gave Wes a pat on the shoulder and he vanished up the stairs. "Don't worry you can settle in first, look around and then do our floors."
Are all of these people jack asses? Her eyebrow twitched and her irritated smile was still on her lips. "Gee, thanks." She mumbled, walking up the stairs and prayed she didn't need to ask anybody for directions. She just wanted to find a tiny corner to die in. As she walked around the castle, looking for somewhere to die. She heard it. Music.
A beautiful symphony, the notes smashed together perfectly, sounding beautiful and just when you wanted to dance and laugh, there was a wrong note. It was like your happiness was taken away and when you got happy again they would take it away again. Maka closed her eyes, humming along with the music and swayed over to it.
The music had gotten louder. And louder. She opened her eyes, and a door was there. A black door. Somehow she knew when she opened this door her life would turn uphill. She opened the door, as quietly as possible. There sat a boy. He sat on the stool, playing the piano like it was his life, his eyes were closed, shielding his color from her view. His hair was a white alabaster, not crystal moonlight like Wes's or his mother, it was more white and less clear. The music stopped abruptly. "It's rude to stare."
She flushed, "Oh, um, sorry. It was just nice, that's all." He turned around, his eyes were wide, finally revealing his eyes and it was worth the wait. A light Siam color, not ruby like Wes's or his father. A light Siam color that melted her light emerald eyes. "...You liked it?" He asked, amazement dripping from every word. She smiled, nodding sheepishly. "Yes, it was breath taking." He smirked, "That's a first." He mumbled in disbelief.
He looked her up and down and she tensed. She had no idea why but she sucked in her stomach, it's not because she was chunky or insecure of her body, she just did because it felt as if butterflies were inside of her and her goofy smile didn't fall. "Your the new maid?" He said, pointing at her. "Yes, and pointing is rude." He snickered, his teeth were crooked and it made her eyes go wide.
He smirked, their gaze locking. "Scared of my teeth?" He stood up, rolling his shoulders and she shook her head, a smile still on her pink lips. "Not at all, their just...cool." He blinked, and blinked once more before he laughed again, tears pricking out the corner of his eyes. "Your an odd one, you know that?" She huffed, folding her arms and raised an eyebrow. "And what is that suppose to mean?"
He sighed, putting up his hands in defeat. "Nothing, nothing." She raised her chin up in a prideful way that made him smirk. "You have a sharp tongue don't you, maiden?" Her face flushed, gaping and she huffed. Turning away from him, he stepped closer, coaxing her chin up so their eyes locked. "Enjoying her, Soul?" He sighed, hanging his head in the crook of her neck, her face reddened. "Sorry, mother." He backed away, walking towards his mother sluggishly and she began to scream at him about how; he wasn't being gentlemen like, if you keep acting like this I won't hesitate to throw you in the dungeon. It was pretty harsh stuff. If she screamed at Maka like that she wouldn't bite her tongue, she would slam a dictionary in her brain and tell her to use her manners.
Maka sighed, stepping in between the two and curtseyed. "I'm sorry, mam. It was my fault," The man named; Soul was gaping down at her, his light Siam eyes wide from shock. "I was joking with him and things got carried away. My apologies." His mother blinked, raising an eyebrow and pointed at her son with disbelief. Jeez, they have a pointing problem. "You were toying with him?" Maka nodded sheepishly, awaiting her punishment. "Your not making a very good first impression, my dear."
"Yes, my apologies." She stood up straight, eyes closed awaiting whatever would come. "Hm. It's fine, just get to the bathroom quickly." She nodded, mumbling her thanks and ran up the stairs. She sighed, instead of following that damn music I should have been looking around. Ugh. Where is the bathroom? She cussed under clenched teeth, opening a few doors that led to more hallways or random rooms. Finally at the corner of the hall stood the cleaning supplies and beside it a bathroom. The sad thing was this would probably be the highlight of her day.
She lifted her ragged brown dress, kneeling down and grabbed what looked like a tooth brush. She prayed it wasn't the kings and scrubbed it against the toilet, trying to get a brown stain off of it. She didn't know why she saved that boys life from his mother's wrath, he deserved it for toying with her and acting like such a jerk! She sighed and mumbled, "Stupid, Evans."
"So, harsh." She yelped, looking up and cursed when the tooth brush fell in the toilet water. The boy was leaning against the door frame, wincing sarcastically at her words. It was him. "Oh, it's you." She practically hissed, he sighed. "Thank you." She blinked, turning to him. "What?" He sighed again. "From saving me from my mother, but...I couldn't let a beautiful young lady such as yourself take the fall for me. That wouldn't be very prince like of me, now would it?" She smiled, looking back down at the toilet and grabbed the tooth brush, scrubbing again. "That's alright, Evans."
"Soul." He corrected. "Soul Eater Evans." She smiled, putting the tooth brush down and extended her hand. "Maka Albarn." They shook hands, soon washing their hands because she was scrubbing the toilet. "By the way, after this you have to mop the kitchen floors and eat with us." She blinked, putting away the tooth brush under the drawers and followed Soul where she hoped he was leading her to the kitchen. "Eat with you?" He nodded. "Me and my family to be precise."
"I'm allowed?" She asked, Soul opened the door and she bit back her happiness that he was leading her to the kitchen. "Not likely." He stated simply, grabbing the mop that leaned on the kitchen wall and handed it to her. "What?" He shrugged, watching as she began to clean. "I invited you so, don't worry, they wont punish you...just me."
She shook her head, "No, thank you, but no. It's my first day here and I already got in trouble, plus I couldn't do that to you...I mean," He waved her off "It would be rude if you refused my invitation."
She sighed, What an ass. "I'll be there."
It was time. It had actually been time for awhile. She stared at her mirror, glad Soul had told her where her room was. She'll admit it, the presence didn't radiate home, it kind of said; I'm-a-slave-here-help-me. But she had a big dresser, a book shelf that was empty, a nice bed and a mirror. She lifted up one of her pigtails, turning herself to the side to see if she looked decent. She was eating with royalty. The least she could do was look nice. But she had no clothes other than more brown torn dressed so she stayed with the one she was wearing.
"Your late." She jumped, really, this man needed to stop sneaking up on her. She sighed, resting her hand on her chest and tried slowing her heart race. "Sorry, I was...just making sure I looked nice." He huffed, leaning against the door frame and crossed his arms. "You do, stop staling and get down stairs." She sighed, giving a sheepish nod and followed him out the door. That's when she started rethinking everything. "Actually I just remembered your uh, your mother's shoes need to be polished! Yes! Well, maybe another time."
She looked down the stairs, Wes and his parents sat down on a big table. She had no idea why, it was only five people but the tables were almost as big as the whole room. She gulped, and Soul grabbed her hand, reassuringly. His hand was warm, and it made her loosen. She walked down the stairs along with him, sitting down next to Soul and tried farthest away from the rest of his family.
Everybody looked up, blinking as they saw Maka and she gave a nervous smile. Soul slurped down his spaghetti. "I invited her." He stated. Even though he said it, the staring and gaping did not faultier. Maka twirled her spaghetti on her fork, biting down on her lip. This is absolutely humiliating! "Soul, only invite this maid. I don't want everybody to feel like they can come sit down with us." Soul nodded simply.
Silence.
"So," Wes subsided. "Maka, yes? What do you think of our home?" She smiled, putting down her fork. "It's quite lovely, I've never seen something so big. I admit my room is a bit empty but still so large and extraordinary! I do appreciate that I have my own room." Mr. Evans smiled pride fully. "Oh, I do like this one." Mr. Evans laughed and Maka smiled. She looked down at her half eaten spaghetti and sighed. "I hope your not angry at me for being so fresh to sit down with you."
"Not at all." Mr. Evans said, Wes shrugged, Soul waved her off and Mrs. Evans said nothing. "Mom." Soul hissed, she sighed, waving him off. "Well dear, it's just, I don't like to be in the presence of the ...poor." Maka nodded, hosting herself up. "I understand." Soul yanked her down, Soul and his mother seemed as if they were burning each other simply by looking at each other. "Sit." He hissed out threw clenched teeth, she appreciated it but still there was no point in her coming if she was going to make things awkward. "Soul.."
"Sit." She sighed, sitting back down.
It was awkward silence for the whole dinner.
"I'm sorry for my mothers indecency, Maka." Soul apologized, smiling at her and she returned it. "Thank you, Soul. I had a lovely evening." She curtseyed, walking up the stairs, looking over her shoulder at him and smiled again. Soul watched as her hips swayed back and forth as she walked up the stairs.
"Don't fall for her, Soul. She is just humoring you. If mother finds out you'll be dead. For sure. And this time I don't know if I can stop her." Wes said, bumping his shoulder and gave him a steady look. "I'm serious." Soul rolled his eyes, following his brother up the stairs. He began talking about his new concert but Wes knew he wasn't listening. Wes sighed, ruffling his brother's hair. "I'm sorry, it's just the way things are." Soul rolled his eyes again. "I have no idea as of what your referring too." It was Wes's turn to roll his eyes.
He nodded, turning to the left hall where his room was and gave half of wave, bidding him a goodnight. "Don't invite her again, Soul." He jumped, turning around. His mother walked up the stairs and he scowled. "I'll do as I please." He turned, not caring to see her reaction.
She slipped off her ragged brown dress, throwing it in a corner and noted to pick it up later. She opened her dressers, three outfits were there. A maid outfit that Maka swore she would never wear, a green night gown and at last a black dress that had to be one of the loveliest things she had seen. And a card tagged to the dress. She lifted it up, squinting her eyes and she mumbled aloud; "In honor of prince Soul." She smiled, letting it go and grabbed her green night gown.
She had no idea how he did it, in the little time he had. The night gown was a bit big, but it slipped on perfectly and she smiled. The green silky fabric felt cold and she liked it that way, she slipped under her covers and felt pure cotton. She sighed in content. Maybe, just maybe, the Evans manor wasn't that bad.
A/N: I'm really sorry, it kinda sucked I just really wanted to fix it because it was just...sad. My writing work was absolutely horrible, I wanted to change the whole thing but I wanted to stick with the plot due to so many people liking it. Again, I beg you please do not read the next chapter until I re-post it which will probably be at the end of December I'll probably give out the date in one of my new fan fics, again I beg please don't read the second one. Well, I hope you enjoyed!
