Wendy's POV
Two days after Peter's scheme
"Slightly, what's this 'brilliant plan' you've been mumbling to yourself about?" I ask. Slightly's leaning against a makeshift table some feet away from me. He's twitching a lot. He looks like he'll pass out any moment now. I don't know why he's acting so strangely.
Meanwhile, I've been sitting on the floor near the fire stitching up some of the boys' clothes for at least half an hour. Gosh, how did their clothes survive when I wasn't here? They get holes in the strangest places, places you certainly do not want to know about.
"Slight?" I call. I hear a quick curse. The boy's behaving awfully shifty. So, in between stitching I lift up my head to look at him when I stick myself with the needle. "Ow!" I shout in pain clutching my hand. I don't miss Slightly's reaction. He jumps at the sudden outburst. He's walking on needles today, huh? Funny…needles. I'm making a joke now but remember when I say, if swords don't get me then finger pricks surely will. Seriously now, I need to find a thimble before I stab one of my fingers off.
"Slight, can you hand me that 'kiss' lying right there, pretty please?" I beg. I point to the little cylindrical metal object on the floor. It must have rolled away while I was looking about the clothes. The thimble has also found itself next to Slightly's feet. He goes still. I'm getting a little worried now. "Are you-?" I begin before Slightly cuts me off.
"Will you stop torturing me?! Peter stole a thimble from you at the beach!" Slightly blurts out before slapping his hands over his mouth. I immediately stop stitching. Thimble…torture…what?
"What are you talking about?" I ask confused. I think he's finally losing it.
"Wendy…" Slightly starts in a whisper as if somehow, some unwanted person might quickly appear and hear this important information. His voice is so low that I can barely hear whatever madness he's going on about. Nevertheless, I make out most of his story. "…but the whole drowning thing at the beach was an act. Peter found out that I know what he did. Then, I couldn't say anything to anybody since Peter told me not to 'tattletale if I knew what was good for me'. I tried but I can't keep this secret anymore, Wendy. It's driving me nuts!" Poor Slightly's on the brink of tears.
I'm utterly stunned. Well… this is… just illogical! Yet, it's also pretty devious and underhanded, which are actually so completely like Pan. I could almost believe this except…
"Why would he do those things though?" I question.
"I don't know." Slightly insists. "But I swore to Peter that I wouldn't tell. Cross my heart and hope to die. I crossed my heart, Wendy! That's the most highest promise! Now, I'm dead." Slightly declares melodramatically.
Peter seems to have gone to some trouble to keep his little act a secret. He probably thinks he's so clever. But now I know. And Mr. Brilliant has no idea that I know. Therefore, oh yes, the ball is now in my court.
I get up off the floor and stand beside Slightly. I gently pat him on the back. Meanwhile, I'm cooking up a plan as I comfort the miserable child. I smile to myself. I know Slightly is very distressed for keeping Peter's secret for a few hours but unfortunately, I now have a plan of my own and he will just have to go with it.
"Listen," I say to Slightly. "Peter will not kill you."
"Wendy, you don't know about the other things he promised to do to me!" Slightly insists.
"Slight, none of that matters." I respond. The boy gawks at me. He's probably wondering why I'm so confident that Peter Pan won't follow through with a threat. But he doesn't know what I have in store for our resident 'kiss thief'. And yes, that is what I'm calling his eternal highness.
"You only need to do as I say."
"And what's that?"
"Just don't tell Peter that I know his secret."
Slightly blinks at me.
I blink back at Slightly.
And that's when the boy faints.
A/N Hi! Did you like this chapter? I really enjoyed writing it. I promised that Wendy would confront Peter in this chapter but as i wrote this came out and it was looking like adding the part with Wendy and Peter would make the chapter way too long. So, that will be the next chapter. Thanks for reading and please leave me a review! - Camille.
