Arya barely missed the swish of the sword that was near her head. She ducked and smiled smugly a little as she tripped the Lannister solider with her foot and he immediately fell onto the floor. His sword fell out of his hands. He was nervous which was a first for him. He crawled to get it, but froze as her sword was at his neck. His eyes glanced up at the girl, who getting better and better each day he'd seen her. He had arrived at Casterly Rock just a week ago. The stories he'd heard about the castle were true to their tales. It was a beautiful fortress that touched the clouds with the Sunset Sea glittering behind it.
He smirked at the girl and said, "You're good."
"I've been practicing."
"Perhaps you could get even better if you go to Braavos."
"Have you ever been to Braavos?"
He thought about it for a moment before replying, "No, I haven't, but I was going there before I was kidnapped."
"You call pounds of gold being kidnapped? Stop being so dramatic." Jaime said, leaning against the pillar with his arms crossed over his chest.
He had noticed him there on several occasions, watching the girl as she fought each man of his men. He was studying her and probably seeing if the girl was worthy of being trained and being so much more than some highborn lady. She obviously disliked the idea of even being a lady, but she would use it as an advantage. She was very clever and intelligent though not so much beautiful as her sister had been. The girl stepped away from him, still smug and he had not blamed her for being that way.
"I'm not complaining or anything, but next time you should warn a man before he makes his way to a whore's bed." He said as he stood up.
"Yes, Tyrion told me that you are very fond of whores, Bronn." Jaime said.
"Explains why we were friends."
"I didn't realize that friends left each other behind when asked to fight for their life."
"I was already your brother's champion once before. I was his sellswords men, champion, Commander of the City Watch, killer, and…and well, the only friend he had."
Jaime laughed and said, "Well, now you're my sellswords men."
"As long as you're paying me then I'm your bitch basically." Bronn said then turned to Arya. "You know you are nothing like your sister."
"You met Sansa?" She asked curiously.
"Yeah, red hair, beautiful, quiet, and very proper that it sort makes you kind of sick. Then, yup, I know her."
Arya chuckled then immediately frowned. "Were you one of the ones that beat her?"
"No, I was the one saving her on Tyrion's command. He was very protective over the little bird." Bronn replied. "The Kingsgaurds would beat her everyday on the little cunt's command. Sometimes he commanded them to undress her then beat her, but leave her face because he liked her pretty face."
"The Kingsguard did that to Sansa?" a soft voice said from behind him.
Bronn turned around and froze at the sight before him. He guessed by her beauty and the color of her dress that she was Lady Lannister. Tyrion was right like he'd always been. She was indeed beautiful and looked so much like a Stark with a striking Northerner beauty. He was dumbfounded and now he was envious that the Kingslayer had a wife like that. Bronn saw that she was holding a baby on her hip. The babe looked so much like her that is was uncanny.
Bronn walked up to her. "I'm guessing you must be the Targaryen girl I've heard so much about."
"I am."
"I honestly thought that you were dead."
She laughed and said, "You must be Bronn, friend of Tyrion"
"If you know who I am and you're married to Tyrion's brother…" He thought about it for a quick moment then smiled, "Then you must be Guinevere Velaryon…Targaryen…Stark…Lannister, I really don't know."
"Yes, that is me."
Bronn gestured with his head to the kid on her hip. "Who's that you're holdin'?"
She smiled warmly. "His name is Killian Lannister. He's my son, just born a moon ago."
"He looks much older." He commented. "I'm not good with kids."
She laughed nodded. "I can see that."
She walked over to her husband and kissed his cheek. He smiled down at his son and took him from her. Bronn looked more closely at her and noticed that looked like she had never been with child before. She looked very good for a woman who just had a baby. Guinevere kissed Jaime on the lips passionately though discreetly. He smirked and said, "You're such a man sometimes."
She laughed and turned back around to them. "So, I hear Arya is beating you."
He scoffed. "It appears so."
"Then maybe Arya should teach Jaime how to fight instead you." Guinevere suggested.
"Is that why I'm here?" Bronn asked.
"I can't teach him swordplay," Arya said.
"She's just a girl." Jaime said.
Arya whirled around to him. "I'm not a girl anymore. I've had to grow up because of your stupid family and their madness. I'm glad that you have no right hand because you pushed Bran from a tower."
There was a longing silence and Bronn wondered how long it would take the girl to explode at the Lannisters for everything that they did to her. He wouldn't blame her for it. He looked to Guinevere and she had that look to where she was warning him not to speak. He understood because this was a sensitive matter for both of them. Guinevere took her son away from Jaime and held him close to her on her hip. The babe mumbled some incoherent protest when being taken away from his father, but then he stopped and leaned into his mother. Guinevere stepped away from her husband a little.
Honestly the both of them looked very awkward watching both the lion and the wolf glare at each other for dominance. He was surprised that the dragon wasn't breathing fire like she was known for. Jaime and Arya wouldn't let go of whatever it was that was holding their ground for so long. He suspected it them pissing like dogs on their territory or something.
"It's kind of poetic when you think about it. I cripple your brother, took away something he loves most and I myself had something I loved taken away from me making myself a cripple." He smirked and then continued after a long pause as he held up his golden hand. "Did you know that this was the same hand that I pushed your brother with?"
"Good thing, it's gone then because I would've cut it off in a much more horrible way than before." Arya deadpanned then turned around and walked away.
Once she was out of earshot, Guinevere turned sharply to Jaime and smacked his arm. He winced and rubbed his arm saying, "Ow."
"Why in the Seven did you do that?! I told you not to provoke her and you did it anyway!" Guinevere scolded angrily.
Bronn stifled a laugh that suddenly erupted inside of him, but he held it in. Jaime looked sharply at him and Guinevere said, "I can't believe you right now, Jaime. I'm trying to…no I'm not going to do this right now with you."
She turned around and walked away just as her husband was saying reluctantly, "I'm sorry! Gwen! Gwen…come back. I said I was sorry."
Jaime groaned and Bronn said, "Women."
Jaime nodded and agreed. "Yes, women. They…that woman right there is the most complicated thing in the universe."
"Oh, I have no doubt 'bout it," Bronn said.
. . .
Gwen softly knocked on Arya's door. A moment later, it swung open. Arya stepped aside to let her in. Gwen walked in with Killian on her hip as he played with the necklace Jaime had given to her for their wedding. Gwen glanced around and her lips curved into a smile as she saw the bed posts had sword markings on them. Gwen knew that Arya was angry so she had to be careful. Arya practically slammed the door shut and then huffed, "I want to kill him."
"Are you going to add him to your list?" she asked in a concerned tone.
"How do you know about that?" Arya asked softly as if ashamed and angry of it.
"I heard you once. So are you going to add him to your kill list?"
Long pause. "No. I don't want Kili to not know his father. I don't want you to lose another person you care about."
Gwen smiled softly. "I'm ignoring him right now. What he said to you was wrong and I'm getting angrier by the moment because I asked him not to do what he just did and he did it anyways…he's so frustrating."
Arya chuckled lowly. "Your son is probably going to be like him, you know?"
Gwen shook her head. "Jaime's convinced that he'll be like me. Insufferable."
"He's a wolf, a lion, and a dragon. The most powerful bloodlines in the Seven Kingdoms run through his veins and he's a powerful heir. Heir to Casterly Rock, Dragonstone, if your family comes back then the Iron Throne, and if Sansa doesn't have any children then Winterfell as well." Arya came closer to Killian, gazing intently at him. "North, South, East, and West. I bet you they're going to call him, 'Lord of the Lands' or 'Lord of Westeros'"
"Arya , if the Iron Throne does belong to him then he would be king…" Gwen realized worriedly. "I-I don't want that kind of life for him. He would grow up to be like a Tywin Lannister with even more power."
"Then run away…got to the Free Cities, change your name, take Killian with you and Jaime as well. Run and don't look back."
"There is too much that I still need to do. Like save my brother and Sansa for starters."
Arya frowned then hugged Gwen tightly. "You're the best sister and mother anyone could have asked for, Gwen."
Gwen hugged her back. "I love you too, Arya. Go get ready for supper."
Arya shook her head. "No, I'm not hungry. I'm tired so I'm going to bed."
Gwen smiled warmly. "Alright, well goodnight."
She kissed the top of Arya's head and headed back to their chambers. On the way there, Killian fell asleep, his head on her shoulders with his arms around her neck. She was careful not to make any noise as she came into the room, Confusion filled her face as she saw the table tipped over, food everywhere, and the furniture was out of place. Her eyes frantically looked around for evidence. She was hoping that her worst fears hadn't come true. That this wasn't like her visions from before.
She saw Jaime unconscious on the balcony floor. She gently set a sleeping Killian down on the bed. She ran to him and kneeled down beside him. She turned Jaime on his back and couldn't help, but gasp as she saw blood seeping from his hairline and going down the side of his face all the way to his chin. Blood was smeared on the side of his face from having his face on his blood on the floor though she couldn't find the source of all the blood.
She inspected him for any other wounds, trying to keep herself calm. She froze as she saw a huge blood stain on his stomach near his hip. Gwen shook her head; tears blurring her vision as she ripped open his jacket and tunic. She saw a stab wound, blood still seeping from it. Gwen started to scream and scream and scream for help. Her screams were the only sounds in the castle.
She vaguely heard someone say behind her, "Arya Stark is gone."
. . .
One Moon Ago…
Brienne was shoved inside the dark tent, falling on her knees with her hands tied in front of her. There was a single lit candle on top of maps and a table set in the middle of the tent. A grey light came inside of the tent in front of Brienne though the furs of animals had been hung up so the grey light was dim. She had been pulled away from the rest of them. Bounded and blindfolded. Brienne was alert and cautious as her eyes frantically looked around for any movement. Most of the tent was in complete darkness which made Brienne uneasy. She didn't like the threatening feeling of the unknown. She needed to think of a way to escape.
She made a promise to save the Stark girls and she intended to keep it. She struggled her hands out of the ropes around her wrists, but they wouldn't budge. They were too tight and well knotted for a commoner. She stopped struggling as a gold gleam came into the light from the candle. Brienne looked up and saw a golden crown being rolled around on its rim by a scrawny old hand though the person of this hand had been hidden from Brienne's eyes in the shadows.
Brienne wondered if they had been in the tent the entire time. If so then they watched her silently and Brienne wanted to know why because although she heard of the Brotherhood Without Banners, she never met any one of them and was careful to stay away from them. Could this be their leader that everyone seems to want to catch so much, Brienne wondered.
Brienne licked her dry lips and gulped, her throat dry. "Who are you?"
They didn't answer, but only kept on twirling the gleaming gold crown with their middle finger. The gleaming of the gold crown had become the only solace for Brienne. It was unusual the way it kept on twirling, slowly as if they wanted her to get a good look at it. Brienne tried to place where she had seen that crown before…she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it did seem familiar to Brienne.
"A captured knight has the right to know its captor's identity," Brienne said harshly, remembering when Jaime told her the same thing long ago.
The golden crown still kept twirling as they came into the candlelight. Brienne was dumbfounded. Her face fell into a frozen state as she whispered, "Lady Catelyn…"
If Brienne had not been frozen then she would have bent her head and apologize to Lady Catelyn, but she did none of those things. Instead, she was still kneeling. Brienne could barely see any of the old Lady Catelyn. No warmth. No love. No hope. No mercy. Only pain and coldness lived on the old dead eyes of Catelyn Tully. Her new appearance didn't match her old one. Claw marks coming form her eyes like she was crying when she clawed her eyes out, they appeared to be scared now though. Her once Tully red hair now grey, brittle, and dead like, all under a grey shawl hood. Most of her hair was indeed gone, but the shawl kept it hidden. Her skin was the color of a ghost. A large stitched scar was across her throat. She had the appearance of a crone. She looked ruthless which would explain why she is their leader. Revenge. That was the only thing that Brienne could think of for her reason of being here.
She thinks I failed her, Brienne thought, she will think that I betrayed her by sparing Ser Jaime's life. He saved her life yet again when they were brought back to King's Landing and Loras Tyrell tried to have her in chains, but Jaime set him in his place. Jaime thought that it would be safe for her to lay low so he kept her hidden until he could find a way for her to complete her quest and he did. Brienne wondered if the girl had made it out alive.
She tried to think that she did, but even Brienne knew that she was probably lying in a ditch somewhere after being raped and then killed right after. Brienne forced herself not to think about the girl's child…Jaime's child. Even Brienne could see that he cared deeply for Guinevere and that he cared more about her than he did about his own sister.
"Lady Stoneheart," Catelyn snapped as she stopped twirling the crown, her eyes boring into her own blue ones, waiting.
Brienne nodded and corrected, "Lady Stoneheart." The name fitted well with her.
She went back to twirling the crown and began, "This is Robb's crown. I found it near the bank of the Twins."
"Why am I here?"
"You're here because you are a traitor," she snapped angrily. "And a liar…" Lady Stoneheart said the last part so softly that Brienne had thought that her ears had deceived her.
"I am no traitor, my lady. I am still loyal to you."
"If you were loyal to me then Jaime Lannister would be dead. He is not though." She said coldly.
Brienne shook her head. "He's changed. I've seen it. Please, you have to believe me."
"I considered her to be one of my own." Lady Stoneheart said.
Brienne knitted her eyebrows in confusion as she continued, "She was the most loyal of them all. Yet now she is the Kingslayer's whore. How poetic."
Brienne now knew who she was talking about. Guinevere…her son's wife or actually ex-wife. "She's certainly not a whore, my lady. Far from it…she loves Jaime and Jaime loves her so much. She loved your son as well."
Lady Stoneheart laughed bitterly. "Is that what you were told?"
Brienne didn't reply, only looked at her with a loss of hope. "It does not matter now because she is a traitor. Just. Like. You. Brienne."
"I'm not a traitor, Lady Catelyn." She insisted.
"I'M LADY STONEHEART!" She shouted in rage. "You will do well to remember that before I kill you and every other person who has betrayed me."
"Please, my lady…I. Am. Not. A. Traitor." Brienne kept on insisting.
Lady Stoneheart looked at her more carefully. "Bring me Jaime Lannister's head and I'll let you and your companions live."
"What?" she said breathlessly. "I will not kill Jaime. No!"
"Then you shall be hanged for being a traitor. It's as simple as that. You either kill the Kingslayer or you and the rest of your party die."
"What about Lady Guinevere?! Am I supposed to kill her as well?! Cut her babe from her belly?!"
Lady Stoneheart shrugged. "No, no, all you need to do is kill the Kingslayer. The Queen is already after her so I have no doubt that her and the Kingslayer's bastard will face a much more…gruesome and yet painful death."
Brienne stood silent. She was about to say no when Lady Stoneheart spoke first, "Think of it this way. You either kill or be killed, the choice is yours and yours alone."
Brienne and Lady Stoneheart shared a long moment of silence between them. The dead silence was maddening that Brienne wondered how she was able to sit alone and do this all day. Brienne gave her answer to Lady Stoneheart thus sealing her fate.
~Fin~
Well, I hoped you guys liked this chapter because I know that it's been kind of slow, but now things are going to get fucked up and pretty crazy and intense. Spoilers for next chapter though so Arya's gone, Brienne gave her answer to Stoneheart, Cersei is after them, Dany is after them, so many assassins are after them as well, Jaime is in a coma, and Gwen is going to go crazy…so who did attempt to or did kill Jaime? Cersei? Brienne? Arya? Dany? Tyrion? Stoneheart? Loras Tyrell? Varys? Littlefinger? Sansa? Daemon? It's not Gwen so don't think it is.
But yeah next chapter is kind of sad because well you know the love between Gwen and Jaime is so intense and real especially now that they are together finally and just had Killian. This is a AU story obviously so I'm going to change so many things that I hope you guys won't hate me for it. I've been waiting to put that scene with Brienne and Lady Stoneheart since the beginning of this story. I tried to bring out Lady Stoneheart as well as I could, but it's ok if you guys didn't like it.
Anyways until next time my most awesome readers…
