Creating Heroes
They were calling him a hero. People were coming forward, talking about how he had saved them, fought for them, stood up against the regime. This, they said, made him a hero.
It wasn't true. Everything he had done, it hadn't been for anyone else, not really. It hadn't been selfless. He'd been trying to make amends, seeking forgiveness for something that couldn't be forgiven. He'd been trying to create a hero out of himself.
But he couldn't be a hero. Confronted with the corpses of people killed by a man whose existence he'd denied, Seamus Finnigan was forced to accept that he would always be the coward who called Harry Potter a liar.
This was my entry for the 1 Character, 1 Prompt Challenge. My prompt was 'create' and my character was Seamus Finnigan.
