Aster knocked on the front door to Jack's house, impatiently waiting while tapping his foot nervously. When nobody answered, he growled slightly and knocked harder, jiggling the door knob. He withdrew as soon as loud, heavy footsteps were heard getting closer to him from inside the house and the door swung open, revealing a very pissed and drunken man.

"The hell do you want?" The man spit, spraying Aster's face with saliva. Aster cringed in disgust, wiping the spittle quickly off of his face.

"I've come to talk with Jack," Aster implied, looking over the man's shoulder. "May I see her?"

The stranger glared at Aster with such rage that even demons would run and hide in terror.

"What did the little bitch do this time?" The drunkard snarled.

Aster saw a blinding flash of red and felt anger rising up from his chest to his throat. He had to bite his tongue before he flipped his shit. Now is a time for conversation, Aster, he thought calmly to himself. Not the time for murdering this thing sadly called a 'human'. Maybe some other time. Aster almost smirked. He liked the thought of that all of a sudden. He had never disliked somethi- someone so quickly.

"She hasn't done anything. I'm Aster Bunnymund. I'm her tutor for math and I kind of need to see her."

The man hesitated until he stepped aside and beckoned for Aster to come in. The Aussie walked into the house and flinched whenever the putrid stench of liquor and beer hit his sensitive nose. He coughed and sputtered for a minute, trying to regain his breath. What kind of house did Jack live in?!

Aster returns the air to his lungs, albeit not good, fresh air as it should be, and turns around, seeing Jack's father leaning against the front door, eyes closed, cigarette hanging from his chapped lips.

"Mr. Frost?" Aster calls out, making the man's eyes whip to stare at Aster.

"Don't call me that, punk," he growls. "The name is Sunny."

Aster almost laughed. Well, damn. He didn't seem very sunny.

"Okay, Sunny, I need to interview you about your relationship with Jack. It's sort of likeā€¦ like a tutor thing so we make sure the house is suitable for a studying kind of environment," he explained.

"You sayin' my house isn't right for studying?!" Sunny yelled.

"You sayin' that I can't have one little interview with you?" Aster mocked, altough he still managed to sound respectful.

Sunny closed his mouth and smirked. "I like your spunk, kid. Take a seat."

Aster didn't even have to look at the couch to know it was covered with empty beer cans and cigarette butts. "I think I'll stand," Aster replied.

The man looks at the couch and sighs.

Aster's eyes glanced at the stairs connecting the upstairs to the kitchen whenever he heard some shuffling from one of the rooms at the top of the steps. "Ah," he said, his narrowed emerald eyes looking at Jack's 'father' again. "is it possible to get Jack down here also? I need her for the interview."

Sunny gave him a bored look. "Hey, kid!" He called. "Your boyfriend is here!"

Aster blushed, fists clenching at his sides. "Oh, no, Mr. Frost! It isn't like that at all! I'm her friend; her tutor!" He rambled, more embarrassed than he should have been.

Sunny sent a smirk his way and leaned towards him. "Even though she's a brat," he whispered. "she is a beauty."

Aster blinked at that.

There was some more shuffling upstairs before the door opened, flooding the stairs with dim light. Jack's angelic voice carried softly through the house. "Yes, sir? Did you need me?"

"Yeah," Sunny leaned back again, waving his hand. "Your tutor is here."

Aster heard soft footsteps not a moment before Jack appeared on the stairs, stiff and glaring at Aster. She was dressed in a blue tank top and brown shorts while her glistening white hair was pulled back in a loose bun. She hissed, "What are you doing here?"

The Aussie tried not to flinch under her piercing blue gaze. He spoke to Mr. Frost, not tearing his eyes away from the girl. "Y'know what? I think I want to have this chat in private with you, Mr. Frost."

Jack growled and whipped around, running back to her room and slamming the door closed behind her. Aster sighed.

Sunny looked at the stairs then at Aster, raising an eyebrow. "Want to explain what that was all about?"

Aster shook his head. "I don't really know what happened myself." He looked at him. "May we begin?"

Mr. Frost grinned. "Pull up a seat and we can get started."

Aster did as he was told and grabbed a chair from the kitchen, setting down in front of Sunny.

"So," Aster began. "How did you come to adopt Jack?"

Sunny pursed his lips in thought. "My wife found her in the woods, sleeping by that lake she's always at. She brought her home and insisted we keep her, since we didn't have any children and Jack had no family."

"Your wife?"

"Yeah. Her name was Suzy. Died of a heart attack two years ago."

"Oh," Aster frowned. "I'm sorry to hear that." He cleared his throat, changing topic. "How old was Jack whenever you found her?"

"17."

Aster narrowed his eyes, raising an eyebrow. "I think that's how old she is now."

Sunny shrugged. "So?"

"So, she shouldn't be the same age she was two years ago."

Sunny didn't respond.

Aster bite his lip and growled out, "Look, I'm going to drop the good boy right now because it's not working. There's something you're not telling me and I want to know it."

Sunny looked at him and smirked, leaning in close, his rancid breath blowing over into Aster's face. "Fine. I'll tell you since you're going to find out about it one way or another. The kid may be beautiful, but underneath that docile, petite cover, she's a freak. A demon. I know what she's capable of. I've seen it, witnessed it, been a victim to it. That's why I try to keep her under wraps, to protect her from the outside world. And if you know what's good for you, you'll stay out of it."

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
