Episode 17: Shadow of the Past

Plot: DarkEvil LaserPants has done the ultimate evil the Nicktoons must face. However, Danny keeps Darry and the others away from the battle with no explanation why. This angers Darry that he taps into the dangerous power of Ghost Rage. Almost getting his friends and family hurt, Darry runs away and meets a former villain who reveals to him the truth of Danny's past. Can Darry and the others arrive in time to aid the Nicktoons to stop DarkEvil and prevent the evil he intends to unleash?

Part 4

Soon, DarkEvil has everyone the SpongeCogs had captured tied up on top of the Op-Center, similar to what Dark Dan did before. For those he considered currently weak and defenseless like Junior, Jimmy, Cindy, Max, Jack, and Maddie; they were trapped on top of the Fenton RV with SpongeCogs 010 and 013 guarding. When Jack is about to jump off, SpongeCog 010 jumps up and barks at him, making the old man back away. "What a lovely day." DarkEvil said as he looked up at the cloudy sky that looked like a chance of rain. "Perfect for the arrival of a ghost."

"You shouldn't do this, DarkEvil!" Sam yelled down to him. "You have no idea what you're getting into!"

"Give warnings all you want, hippie!" DarkEvil retorted. "Just worry about your own skins once he blows you apart!"

When the evil sponge turned away, Yuki whispered to Sam, "Mom, I'm scared."

"Everything will be okay, sweetie," Sam assured, though in reality, she was thinking the opposite.

"SpongeCog!" DarkEvil called. "Where's that Infi-Map!?"

SpongeCog walked over to the sponge and knelt down on one knee, holding out the scroll. "Right here, Master."

"Yes," DarkEvil said in triumph as he opened the map to show a bunch of holo-images of different realms.

"Stop this now, LaserPants!" a voice hollered out. Everyone looks up to see Danny Phantom and his teammates arriving on the scene. "We don't have to fight," he warned, "Just let everyone go, hand me the Infi-Map, and we can end this."

DarkEvil closed the scroll and held it away. "Forget it! I've come too far to give up now! You might as well stay with the rest of your friends and watch the magic happen as your worst fear comes to life."

"What's wrong with you?!" SpongeBob screamed out, "Don't you realize the great evil you're about to bring? Even I know how dire the situation will be!"

"This plan to bring him back is just making you crazy- er." Timmy pointed out. "What good could possibly come out of this?"

DarkEvil chuckled in amusement as he lifts up his mask, showing bloodshot restless eyes and a crazed expression. "You fools don't get it, do you? This is EXACTLY why I exist! I was born from SpongeBob's hatred, failure, and bad choices in his alternate future. The same goes for you, Phantom! Wasn't he fueled by your anger toward the world for not being able to save your loved ones? Is it not your crave for power to become stronger that makes him what he is?"

"That doesn't matter anymore!" Danny responded, "That part of me no longer exists, and I won't let him resurface and put my family in danger again."

"Now this is your last chance to reconsider and hand us the map." SpongeBob warned, "Before we end up sending you in there with him."

DarkEvil frowned as he lowered his mask back down, and suddenly, threw the map on the ground. Everyone stared in surprise until he snapped his fingers and SpongeCog 008 threw sharp daggers at the adults and pinned Timmy, Tak, and SpongeBob on the ground by their clothes.

Danny stared at his friends and turned to DarkEvil with a glare, seeing the sponge kick open the scroll to view a bunch of portals. "Like I was saying," DarkEvil said carelessly, "Too far to give up now, so it's time to meet Dark Dan Phantom."

As DarkEvil skimmed through the portals, Danny flew toward him at fast speed to prevent it. But before he could get near, SpongeCog 013 jumped in front of him, roaring loudly with his fists in the air. Danny threw a determined punch at the robot's face and managed to knock him down while DarkEvil selected the portal that contained the captive evil ghost. Just as Danny reached DarkEvil and the map, it was already too late.

The Infi-Map charged with energy as it rose up into the sky and unveils a mystic portal. Danny stopped in his tracks, watching in horror as DarkEvil watches with glee. The portal summons out a figure still encased in ectoplasmic ice. The portal closes and the Infi-Map drops down. DarkEvil laughed maniacally, "He looks as fearsome as I imagined. Now, how do I release him from his icy prison?" He snaps his fingers toward SpongeCog 001 who breaks the driver's side window of the Fenton RV and goes inside. He pushes a button and Jack and Maddie back away as an ecto-blaster arises from the top and hits the ice. The Fenton couple gasp as their own weapon is starting to melt the ice encasing Danny's evil self.

"No..." Sam muttered in horror.

The weapon continues melting the ice where, inside, the ghost is able to move his fingers and his eyes glow red. Once the ice became fragile, Dark Dan broke free and fell to the ground on his knees, seemingly unconscious, until DarkEvil slowly approached him. "You're Dan Phantom." DarkEvil said in amazement. "The evil version of Danny Phantom. I actually succeeded in bringing you back."

As the heroes all watched in surprise, Dark Dan suddenly raised his hand and grabbed DarkEvil by his cape, yanking him forward. The ghost raised his cold face and stared at the sponge fiercely. "So you're the one I have to thank for getting me out of that prison." he said in a cold voice.

While DarkEvil seemed to be intimidated a bit, he attempted not to show it through his mask. "Of course. After all, I was the one who gathered everything I needed and captured the Nicktoons for their demise. Including your other self, Danny Phantom."

Dark Dan then glanced over him and noticed Danny leaned back on the ground, watching the whole thing in shock. Dark Dan then smirked and tossed DarkEvil away as he stood up. "Danny Phantom. It's been a while...15 years in fact," Dark Dan said as he carelessly floats toward him, circling and examining him, "So I take it that things are doing well in your future?"

Timmy managed to free himself from the swords pinning him to the ground, tearing parts of his clothes in the process. Then he starts freeing Tak and SpongeBob. Danny began to feel his scar twinge as he looked at Dark Dan and he slowly backed away. "It can't be you." he said in horror. "You're supposed to be imprisoned in another dimension."

"It is, Danny." Dark Dan said with a malevolent smirk. "You didn't honestly think I would be stuck in that hole forever, did you? But since I'm here and everyone is in their place, how about a little re-enactment of what happened 15 years ago; only we'll shake things up a little bit with how it should have turned out."

However, Timmy, Tak, and SpongeBob rushed over to Danny's side and stood in front of him with their weapons in hand. "If you wanna kill Danny," Tak began saying, "you're gonna have to go through us!"

Dark Dan looked dully at them, but smirked, "Fine with me. Then, you're first!" He shoots out a green ghost ray which Tak quickly blocked by spinning his staff out, but the impact still pushed him backward. SpongeBob and Timmy gasp when they decide to charge toward Dark Dan. Dark Dan didn't look intimidated and split himself into three for the three Nicktoons to fight.

"Dad!" Tammy and Tommy both cried. "Look out!"

Timmy kept firing multiple shots with his Star Flinger, but the duplicate was too quick as he pounded his fist into the ground, summoning an ecto-wave that knocked Timmy back.

Tak held his head when he looked up to see the Dark Dan double firing another ray at him. Tak quickly got up and twirled his staff again to deflect the blast and swings a juju blast at him.

The clone that was hit disappeared, and the second clone tried to fire another ecto-blast until SpongeBob jumped from behind and karate chopped his back. But he then grabbed SpongeBob by his head and shocked him with ecto-energy as he screamed.

"Daddy, no!" Junior cried as he was about to jump off the van until Jimmy grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Someone, cover my eyes!" Twitchy yelled.

SpongeBob was thrown on the ground. But when he starts to get up, the Dark Dan copy was about to finish him off until a blast of ice from Danny froze him and another blast of magic from Timmy came that shattered the clone to pieces.

When the last original Dark Dan was left, he glared at the four and said, "I guess you do have some fight in you."

"Let's finish this!" Tak said as he, Timmy, and SpongeBob storm forward.

"Guys, no!" Danny called out, but was too late as Dark Dan took a deep breath and let out a Ghostly Wail. The three tried to fight against it, but the force was too strong and knocked them back into the wall of the Op-Center. Danny turned to his comrades to see them knocked out cold, stunned by Dark Dan's wail. When he turned back, Danny almost jumped when he approached him.

"Or perhaps not," Dark Dan took back and shot ectoplasm that wraps around Danny. "Now as I was saying..."

"Finish off the Nicktoons first!" a voice interrupted. He turned to see DarkEvil, "They're knocked out and their leader is too weak to fight. You must erase them out of existence while they're still breathing!"

But then a string of ectoplasm wraps around DarkEvil and he was pulled forward into Dark Dan's grasp, holding him by his helmet. "And who are you to think you can tell me what to do?" he asked the sponge furiously.

"If it weren't for me, you'd still be stuck in that timeless void!" DarkEvil announced, "I released you because I felt we were kindred spirits. You must join me, Phantom, and together we'll destroy the Nicktoons for good and rule their worlds together."

"Hmph…" Dark Dan said interestingly, "Sounds tempting…" He uses his other hand glowing with ectoplasm when, to the sponge's and Danny's instant shock, Dan penetrates through DarkEvil's chest, "But that's not how I work things around here." DarkEvil LaserPants became silent just as Dark Dan carelessly tossed him to a corner of the roof. "And you can't expect me to work with someone who used to be that." he pointed at the unconscious SpongeBob. "It's much more thrilling to work alone."

Everyone was in horror at seeing this as Danny said to Dark Dan, "You are just as sick as ever."

The SpongeCogs had just witnessed their master's brutal death when SpongeCog 001 shook violently. "Y...You…" SpongeCog 001 growled and broke out of the Fenton RV through the windshield and attacked Dark Dan with a bright red beamsword, "You backstabbing ectoplasmic squishy!"

The other SpongeCogs follow him as they also attack Dark Dan. SpongeCog 010 growls as he leaps at Dan until he shocks the feral bot with ectoplasm. SpongeCog 013 pummels his fists at Dan until he grabs one of his metal fists and throws him back. 008 releases all four of his kantanas when Dan uses an energy whip to cut them in half and swat 008 away. SpongeCog rushes pass his comrades, extending his beamsword. SpongeCog manages to stab him, making the robot smile until he finds the ghost's chest formed a gaping hole for SpongeCog to miss. Dan held SpongeCog in the air and lands a hard punch, knocking the robot into a brick wall.

As SpongeBob begins to wake up, his eyes widen when he sees his evil future self lying lifelessly on the ground. As foolish as this was, he immediately stood up and rushed over to DarkEvil, kneeling down to him and removing his mask to see he was still just barely alive with his eyes half open and face nearly colorless. DarkEvil coughed and glared at SpongeBob as the latter stared in shock. "No one ever...removes my mask..." he said with his last breath before falling lifelessly. SpongeBob just stares with a look of pity before quietly putting DarkEvil's mask back on and walking away from him.

After easily defeating the SpongeCog robots as they lie in a pile badly battered, Dark Dan floated victoriously, dusting off his hands, asking, "Anyone else think they can take me?"

Danny looks up to Dark Dan and turns to see everyone who fought him badly injured while only he has minor scratches. "Leave him alone!" a familiar voice called out. Dark Dan turns and smiles in amusement to see where the voice came from.

He floats up to the Op-Center, spotting Sam and Yuki. "Well, well, well, I guess your future is bright after all…" He grabs ahold of the two, making them intangible and phasing them out of their restraints, "With two lovely ladies to keep you company."

"NOO!" Danny shouted in horror, thinking of what his evil self can do to his family.

"Let go of me!" Yuki yelled at Dark Dan, unafraid.

But Dark Dan stares coldly and smugly at Yuki, making her face freeze in fright. "Too bad ghost genetics don't run in the family. I would've enjoyed seeing another mere child with ghost powers try and stop me. But what can you do?" his hand glows green and begins to shock Yuki with ectoplasmic energy while she screamed.

"YUKI!" Sam cried out as she held her hand out towards her daughter.

"Don't do this!" Danny pleaded to his alternate self. "Please, don't!"

"AAAH!" Kida and Crash both scream for their friend. Dark Dan laughed, holding the two girls in custody, watching everyone's faces in terror, especially for his good self when-

"Hey you!" called a voice the Nicktoons haven't heard in a while. Dark Dan turns to see a boy zooming toward him with lightning blue eyes and raven hair with a white streak, "Get your slimy hands off my mother and little sis!"

Dark Dan is surprised by another half-ghost when Darry Phantom tackles Dark Dan, making him release Sam and Yuki, and pummeling him into the hard concrete. Darry quickly carries the two upward and places them on the Op-Center so they can release the others who are still tied up. Darry floats down to meet his father, "Am I still in trouble for leaving?"

Danny said nothing when both phantoms look down to see Dark Dan emerge from a crater. He coughs a bit, wiping the debris off his suit when he spots Darry. He smirks, "Whatdoya know, Danny? You do have kid that inherited your ghost genetics, not to mention your looks."

"Darry, get out of here!" Danny ordered his son, "You don't know who you're dealing with!"

"You mean your evil jerky alternate self?" Darry asked, "I know, Pop."

"You know?" Danny repeated dumbstruck.

"I know."

"How did you-"

"Long story," Darry cut off and said, "I'm aware of how dangerous he is to you and how his return affected you deeply with our family. Which is why...I forgive you about everything else." Danny stared at him, feeling touched by his words. "But this isn't your fight, Dad. It's my fight too. It's everyone else's, like it or not. So are you ready for this?" Danny smiled, not only to see his son again, but to see that after everything that's happened to him, Darry is able to accept him and his decision. Both half-ghosts nodded as they fly off the roof and land on the street, facing Dark Dan in a fighting stance.

As Dark Dan stared at the two, he said, "If I had an ounce of humanity left, this would be a very touching reunion. But I don't."

"Bring it, old man!" Darry yelled when he and Danny blast out two powerful blue and green ghost rays, pushing Dark Dan aside. Everyone getting down from the Fenton RV watched in amazement as the ghost-powered Fentons fight Dark Dan.

"Go get 'em, Danny!" Jazz cheered as the others pump their fists in the air.

"Ha! That spectral spook is no match for two ghosts!" Jack gloated.

"You mean third-fourth ghosts for Darrel's only a quarter," a voice said from behind. To their surprise, it was Vlad. "Who are up against a ghost that's one whole and a half since he took my spectral half years ago."

"You!" Jack growled, but Jazz stopped him from whatever he planned to do to him.

"What on earth are you doing here?" Maddie demanded to know with her hands placed on her hips.

"As endearing as this reunion is, I have a schedule to keep," Vlad said calmly and turns to Jack, "The boy sent me to you about this...what ludicrous name did you call that gadget…the Specter Splitter?"

Jack held his chin as he recalled the invention. "That's right. Dar-Bear and I were working on it a couple days ago. It has the power to split apart a ghost right down to its soul- which is all of it."

"Is it finished?"

"No. We were too busy trying to find him before we could complete the project. Besides, it's still missing some components."

"Show it to me." Vlad ordered.

"Fine," Jack said as he walks to Fenton Works until he stopped and said, "But I'm doing this for my grandson, NOT for the likes of you."

Vlad said nothing and followed Jack toward the house while Cindy took Junior and Max inside where it's safe.

"There must be something I can do." Jimmy said as he looked toward the battle, a hand placed on his bandaged wound.

"Knowing my parents' whacky inventions, I think it's best if you help them," Jazz urged as she helps him back into Fenton Works with Dark Dan not noticing, busy with his fight against the father and son duo.

Darry flew forward and continued to shoot rays at him. Dark Dan quickly blocked each attack until he deflected with a shield. Danny came from behind, hoping to shoot at the back. But Dark Dan saw and absorbed the ray and blasts it back at Danny with double the power. Danny quickly splits his body in two to avoid the ray. Then, Danny claps both hands and releases an ecto-wave at Dark Dan.

Meanwhile, Sam, Yuki, and SpongeTron have woken up Timmy and Tak. Timmy uses his fairies to poof them to the Op-Center so they can free the remaining captives. After freeing everyone from the top of the Op-Center, Sam tries to lead them somewhere safe. "Is Darry gonna be alright?" Tammy asked as she looked toward the fight.

"He'll be fine, Tammy." Tommy assured as he grabbed her hand. "He's not our leader for nothing."

"I just hope Dad and Dar make it back okay." Yuki said with a worried expression.

"I'm just glad you made it back okay." Crash said with a warm smile as he hugged her.

But SpongeBob grabbed his arm and dragged him away, "Let's go, Crash." He urged with an irritated expression. Sam leads them inside the Op-Center and opens up the fridge so they can exit into Fenton Works for safety.

Dark Dan crouches down to hold his stance against Danny's ecto-wave. He turns as Darry tries to punch him, but the evil phantom grabs his wrist and throws him aside. Darry stopped flying and used both hands to shoot blue ecto-rays. Dark Dan counters with another ecto-ray as both collide and push the ghosts back. "Not bad, son," Dark Dan mocked him in a fatherly tone, "You've exceeded in controlling your ghost abilities. He's taught you well." He waves his hands to create an ecto-energy slash that hits Darry in the chest.

Darry screams from the stinging pain and growled as his aura glowed blue. But he realizes this and held his head. "No… gotta stay calm." His aura becomes a normal white again and lets out a sigh of relief. He did not notice Dark Dan floating up and summoning five ectoplasmic spears that he throws toward the ghost boy.

"DARRY!" Danny screams from afar as the spears crash into the ground just where his son was.

Dark Dan chuckled, "But not enough." But he gawked when an invisible force grabbed him by his cape and swung up away. Dark Dan slammed into the ground, creating a rut in the cement. He looks at a nearby wall to see a shadow looming over his own and Darry emerges from it.

"Here's a power I have which you and my dad DON'T!" Darry yelled and phased both hands into his shadow which arise from the surface and turns into multiple hands. Dark Dan was taken aback as Darry controls his shadow to go after him. Dark Dan quickly flew forward, avoiding every hand that was trying to grab him. He zapped a couple with rays until the shadows reform and grabbed him from underneath, wrapping his entire body like a mummy. Darry focuses manipulating his shadow to keep Dark Dan still when he calls to Danny, "Dad, ice him!"

Danny's eyes turn bright blue along with his hands as he fired a long beam of ice that froze the trapped Dark Dan Phantom in ice. Danny floated down to see his and his son's efforts, Dark Dan covered in shadows while encased in ice. "D-Did we get him?" Darry asked with both of them looking worn out. His question was answered when Dark Dan's eyes glowed solid red and the ice began to sizzle and melt. In a rude awakening, Dark Dan breaks out of the ice, consumed in red flames that wilted away Darry's shadows.

"You didn't think I'd fall for that again, did you?" Dark Dan asked and releases ghostly flames. The half-ghosts quickly avoided it as the villain makes more red flames.

Inside the Fenton Works Lab, Jack, Maddie, Jimmy, and Vlad were still tinkering with the unfinished Specter Splitter with everyone who made it into the household watching. "Can't you work any faster to get this thing done?!" Sam asked impatiently.

"We're trying!" Vlad snapped as he wiped sweat of his forehead. "We just can't find anything to keep this device stabilized. Using it now would just cause it to blow apart right in the user's hands."

"What do you mean?" Jimmy asked.

"Right now we have its main power core running, but we don't have anything else to contain it and redirect into the weapon," Maddie explained, "If only we had some spare parts to keep it firm."

Hearing her, SpongeTron's face gleamed, "Oh! Oh! I know just the parts!" He zooms away and zooms back, now holding a box.

Jimmy opens the box to see its components, when his eyes widen, "SpongeTron, are you sure about this?"

"Well...it is a little risky." SpongeTron said, looking unsure as well. "But if it's the only way to end all this, I'm willing; and I'm sure he would be willing too."

Back in the fight, Danny's hands glowed blue and fires an icy ray. The ray freezes Dark Dan's arm, only he uses red flames to melt it off. "Is that really all you got, Danny?" Dark Dan asked with a smirk. "I guess you haven't learned any new tricks these past couple years."

Darry flew forward and tried to punch Dark Dan from behind, but he swiftly turned around and grabbed Darry by his neck, and threw him towards the ground as he landed on the concrete next to Danny, who immediately checked on him. "Your son isn't that much of a challenge either. But what can I expect when he doesn't have all your abilities."

As Darry opened his eyes, he muttered, "There may be only one way."

"Darry?" Danny asked, wondering what he was talking about.

He looked at his hands and said, "I'm gonna have to try." he turned to Danny and quickly said, "Dad, if for some reason, I don't make it back, I just want you to know that I love you and I'm sorry about everything I ever did that was wrong; and despite all that's happened, I'm proud to be your son and I wouldn't want our lives to be any other way."

But Danny was baffled by this, "Darry, what are you-" Without answering, Darry turned away and growled in anger as a blue aura appeared around him, his hair turning snow-white and his eyes flared blue. Danny gasped, recognizing it as the same power he witnessed before. "Darry, NO!"

Darry screamed in rage as his ghost powers flare up, Dark Dan watched in amazement. "Well, this is new." he said in a cold voice.

"YOU'RE GONNA PAY FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE!" Darry screamed in rage as he flew towards Dark Dan at fast speed. Before Dark Dan had time to react, Darry gave him a hard punch in the face, knocking him away.

Darry flew towards him again to land another attack, but Dark Dan managed to dodge, and as soon as Darry flew past him, he grabbed his shoulder. But upon touching him, the strong ghostly energy around Darry disintegrated parts of his glove until he pulled his hand away.

The ghost boy let out another scream of rage as he released a large powerful ray at Dark Dan. He was blown back into a building, but quickly recovered as he climbed out of the rubble. "So young Darry Phantom has the Ghost Rage, doesn't he?" he smirks with a chuckle, "You hear that, Danny? If I don't kill him first, he'll end up killing everyone else, including himself." Danny gasped until Dark Dan suggested, "Why don't I just put the brat out of his misery?"

He unleashed a ghostly wail and the wave managed to hit Darry, knocking him back into a building. Though he was slightly injured, this only made Darry more enraged as his blue aura flared up even more. Dark Dan flew above him and created ectoplasm in his hand that formed into a sharp spear.

Just as he launched it at the enraged ghost boy, Danny appeared next to Darry in black mist and quickly grabbed a hold of Darry before disappearing again, and then reappearing away from Dark Dan. Danny was forced to let go of his son when he was blown away by the force of Darry's ghost aura. But once Darry glanced at Danny, he screamed again and prepared to fire a large ghost ray at him.

"Darry, don't!" Danny held out a hand, "It's me, remember?" Darry just growled and fired a powerful blast of ghost energy at Danny, who quickly jumped out of the way. "It doesn't have to be like this," Danny said calmly, "I know you think it's your job to set things right, even if you have to sacrifice yourself to do it. But if you become this way, you'll end up hurting others more than yourself." Darry stopped as he listened. Danny closed his eyes, turned into Danny Fenton, and began to walk toward Darry.

"GET AWAY!" Darry screams, releasing an energy wave from his fiery aura. Despite the apparent danger, Danny still walked toward his rampaging son.

Though the force was overwhelming him, Danny moved closer and closer until he was finally embracing Darry. Darry continued screaming with his aura rising, but Danny still hugged him. "Let it go, son..." he asked him, "Please let it go. I can't lose you..."

As Darry's aura slowly died down, tears ran down his face as he muttered, "Dad…I'm sorry I couldn't help you." his ghost energy began to grow smaller and his hair reverts to its black color with a white streak once Darry became calm.

"No, Dar. I should be the one that's sorry." Danny said, pushing his hand across Darry's hair. This ended however when Dark Dan grabs ahold of the two.

"As much as I hate to break up this touching moment, there's still some business I have to finish," Dark Dan said, "Which is to end your future and all half-ghosts once and for all. Fortunately for me, my schedule came just in time with you and your half-ghost son here." He grinned as both of his hands glowed with energy. Darry screams in pain as his body is turned into bright blue ghost energy, followed by Danny who reverts to green ghost energy. They cry in agony with their ghost halves slowly being drained by Dark Dan while this much energy channeled out is burning out their human selves in the process.

"Two Phantoms for the price of one." Dark Dan said in sadistic glee as he felt both ghost energies seeping into him. "How fortunate am I to have two more ghost halves to make me unstoppable!"

But as Darry began to lose his ghost half, Dark Dan suddenly felt something burning in his left hand. "What is this?" he wondered as he looked to see Darry's ghost energy flaring up around his body and around Dark Dan's arm.

Darry screamed even louder and the ghost energy flared up and let out a bright blue flash that caused Dark Dan to yell out and be blown back, dropping both Fentons. Darry's hair turned white again and his visor dropped on the ground. But rather than picking them up, he just glared ahead with his bright flaring blue eyes and ran across them, cracking the lens, proceeding to tackle Dark Dan into a wall with incredible strength.

Danny managed to recover and turned his right hand intangible for a second to verify that he still had his ghost half. But then he noticed Darry beating Dark Dan with fast punches that burned with blue ecto-energy and was in a blind rage like before. "Darry!" Danny called out, running to him. "Stop!"

Darry kept screaming as he continued punching Dark Dan in the face while the latter grunted as blue energy burns him. But he noticed something else, why would he running against him instead of flying? Darry let out one final scream and punched Dark Dan through the wall and few more behind it. Darry breathed heavily as the blue aura faded, his white hair back into a streak, and he fell backwards, changing to human form.

Danny ran toward his unconscious son and held him up. He felt his forehead when he realized, "You're burning up. Darry, are you okay?" But his son did not respond. Danny leaned his head on the boy's chest and noticed his heart rate is beating at a slow abnormal pace. "Darry, answer me! Darry!"

When he couldn't wake up his son, he looked up to see Dark Dan weakly arise and march toward the Fentons. He looked very injured and weakened from Dar's barrage of attacks. "D-Did… you really think..." Dark Dan wheezed out, "That you and your pathetic team, those four malfunctioning robots, and your power-hungry son can defeat me?" Danny backed away, holding Darry tightly in his arms. He knew this was the end as he is out of energy and his son is gravely ill. Dark Dan walked toward them for one killing blow when-

"No…" a male voice called out. Dark Dan turned to see Vlad, Jack, Maddie, Jimmy, Sam, and SpongeTron. "…but this might," Vlad said in a serious tone.

SpongeTron ducked down as an unlikely figure leapt forward and growled at Dark Dan. Danny was stunned to see it was Goddard, back in one piece and looking like he was built anew. "Goddard, activate the Specter Splitter!" Jack commanded.

Goddard opens up his back and a large Fenton weapon pops out that looks like a large ray gun. Dark Dan's eyes widen as the mechanical dog fires a green ray that directly hits the evil ghost and he screams in agony as his body begins to evaporate and turns into green ghost energy that begins to split apart. Timmy, SpongeBob, and Tak arrive and they all watch in astonishment as the eerie green bright ghost energy that was once Dark Dan Phantom split apart and flew into the sky before disappearing into nothingness. After Dark Dan's defeat, Goddard put away his weapon and excitedly ran to Jimmy, as the genius knelt down and held Goddard in his arms, hugging him affectionately while the robot dog licks his face in return.

"Is...Is it over?" SpongeTron asked Vlad.

"Yes," Vlad said in seldom and bowed his head, "It's finally over."

Sam ran toward Danny and kissed him until she looked at Darry worriedly. "Is…is he?" Sam couldn't finish.

Vlad, Jack, and Maddie ran toward Darry. "It's his Ghost Rage," Vlad realized, "He used up too much of his stamina."

"But…but you can help him, right?" Sam asked Vlad, looking at him then up to Jack and Maddie. "Please...there must be something we can do!" She turned and hugs Darry, tears welling up in her eyes, "Please be okay…"

A few days later, the recent incident is on the news as Lancer Thunder reports, "The tragedy that returned once again after fifteen years has ended with no causalities whatsoever and a loss of five million dollars in property damage. We wouldn't have survived this ghostly menace if it weren't for the Phantom father and son duo. Now what are we without-" but the channel is switched to a video game that Twitchy, Crash, and Tommy were playing.

"Guys, we're trying to watch the news here." Jazz scolded.

"Can't…concentrate…" Tommy said mindlessly, "Brain hacked…into gaming..."

"Gaaaaaammiiiinnnggg…" Twitchy and Crash nodded. Jazz sighs, holding her head.

Upstairs in the hallway, Danny and Sam were waiting when Vlad and Maddie exit Darry's bedroom. "So far, Darry's heart rate is normal and is in good condition," Maddie said with a smile.

"Oh, thank goodness," Sam said happily, hugging her mother-in-law.

"The boy just needs more rest until he can get up again," Vlad answered. "You should be lucky, Daniel."

"Very lucky indeed," Danny responded in relief. Vlad and Maddie were leaving the hallway when Danny says, "Vlad?" Vlad turns to Danny, wondering what he wants. "Thank you," Danny said in an endearing smile, "For everything."

Vlad smiled back, along with Maddie, when someone calls out, "Hey Vladdy!" Vlad and Maddie lean on the stair railing, looking at Jack with Yuki and Jazz. "Wanna continue looking at our yearbook? Brings good memories, doesn't it?"

"It does, Jack, it does," Vlad said, happy that he is on good terms again with the Fentons just like the college days.

As they walk downstairs, Maddie then asks, "Don't you think you should tell Danny?"

"No, let's leave him be for now." Vlad suggested. "After a week like this, a man like him can only handle so much turmoil."

Danny and Sam enter Darry's room to find him still in peaceful sleep like the day he battled for his life against Dark Dan Phantom. He was lying in bed dressed in pajamas and was connected to a vitals machine and I.V., but seemed to be recovering. Afterwards, Darry finally seemed to be coming to as he slowly opened his eyes and groaned. "Darry!" Sam cried in joy as she and Danny rush over to his bedside and Sam holds his head close to hers, caressing his cheek.

"Mom?" Darry muttered quietly, still looking tired and worn out. "Dad? What happened? Is he gone?"

"He's finished, Dar," Danny explained, "We rebuilt Goddard using the Specter Splitter, and Goddard blasted him, ripping him apart molecule by molecule."

"Wha..." Darry asked, struggling to sit up in bed. "What about DarkEvil LaserPants?"

Danny and Sam look at each other uneasily. "He's dead," Danny admitted, "Dan killed him."

Darry stared in shock, not expecting that to happen, "And the SpongeCogs?"

"When we returned to Fenton Works to nurse you to health, they were gone," Sam answered.

"Some of us took DarkEvil's body to Bikini Bottom and buried him in the outer regions of Jellyfish Fields." Danny explained. "We all swore we wouldn't tell anyone else what happened that day."

Darry seemed disturbed by all this news, but then asked, "How long have I been out?"

"Three days," Sam replied.

Darry bowed his head and held his face. "I did it again, didn't I? I used my Ghost Rage and lost control of myself. Did I hurt anyone?"

"You didn't hurt anyone, Dar." Danny assured as he held his hand. "The important thing is that you're back home and you're safe."

"I'm gonna call Tucker and Valerie and let them know that Darry's alright now." Sam said as she stood up and proceeded to leave until Darry grabbed her hand.

"Does this mean you're gonna leave again soon?" Darry asked worriedly. "How are we supposed to spend time together if I'm stuck in bed?" Sam just smiled and gave him a kiss on the forehead before leaving.

Once the parents leave, his friends and sister arrive. "Darry!" they all shout happily as they gather around and hug him in joy.

"What was your battle with Dark Dan like?" Tammy asked.

"What was it like nearly dying?" Tommy asked.

"Do you know how worried we all were about you?" SpongeTron asked as well.

"Was fighting that bad ghost really hard?" Junior asked innocently.

"Dah!" Max said until SpongeTron put a pacifier in his mouth.

"Guys, guys, guys." Darry said over everyone. "Sorry, but I don't really remember much during my big fight and all. Can you believe I've been asleep for three days? I haven't even eaten at all."

"Don't you worry, Dar-Bear!" SpongeTron grinned, "Once you start walking again, we'll head over to the Nasty Burger for a big lunch and we can talk about how you guys beat Dark Dan Phantom, and then we can patrol the town and hunt for ghosts…"

Hearing this, Darry frowned and turned his head around. "What's wrong, big brother?" Yuki wondered out loud.

"Guys, I've been thinking deeply about this, about how dangerous Dark Dan was and how I almost put everyone in danger, especially you guys," Darry said, not wanting to look at his friends. The Nicktoons and Cadets look at each other, wondering why he's so mopey suddenly after a three-day recovery. "I understand now why my Dad retired as Danny Phantom," he added.

"Don't worry, Darry." Tommy assured. "We've been in worse situations than this. Maybe not ones that threatened all our worlds and brought back a dangerous foe that nearly killed you and your family, but it all ended well. So how long until you can get up again?"

"Don't you get it?" Darry asked in frustration, finally looking at them, "I'm not gonna be a Nicktoon anymore. I'm telling Jimmy I quit." Yuki, Tommy, Tammy, Poof, SpongeTron, Junior, Crash, Twitchy, and Kida gasped in shock. Even Baby Max held by SpongeTron spat out his binky in surprise. "From now on, there's no more Nicktoons, no more saving the day, no more ghost hunting," Darry paused for a minute and sighs as he confesses to his teammates and the Cadets, "And no more Darry Phantom."

"But you can't quit." Tammy said, looking distressed by this news. "You're our leader."

"You're our friend." Tommy added. "We can't have the Nicktoons without you."

"We thought you loved being a Nicktoon and ghost fighting." SpongeTron added, looking tearful.

"I do," Darry admitted. "But if this is what's gonna happen if I get involved in things like this, then I think it's best for everyone, including myself, if I just give it all up." Yuki looked disheartened by the news, and then walked out of the bedroom without a word.

Out in the hall, her Cadet team members meet her outside. "What are you doing out here, Yuki." Kida asked.

"Oh," Yuki said in a dour tone. "I was just doing something thinking myself."

Kida, Crash, Twitchy, and Junior gasped. "Don't say that you're gonna quit too!" the youngest sponge cried.

"What? Of course I'm not gonna quit," Yuki said. The four sigh in relief, "I just thought I could have done something to stop my dad's evil self. But when he grabbed me, I felt really scared and that no one would help me until my brother came. I realized I depended on my superpowered family to save me when I should have defended myself." The Cadets look at her as Yuki lets out a final sigh, "Graduation will have to wait, guys. I don't think we're ready to fight villains like him. We need to train harder and get more experience like my Dad, Dar, and his team."

The rest of the Cadets stayed silent and Yuki let out a disappointed sigh. "I know you guys are probably disappointed, but I can understand. You were ready to be real Nicktoons and I'm the only one holding you back. But if you guys think you're better off without me, then I can-"

"Are you kiddin'?" Crash said with an excited smile as he slid next to her. "Of course we don't think that!"

Yuki stared in surprise as Kida added, "We'd totally stick with you to train some more before we become official Nicktoons."

"Train! Train! Train!" Twitchy jumped up and down.

"I wanna be the strongest Nicktoon ever!" Junior said in excitement. "That way when another evil future ghost comes, I can save everyone!"

Yuki got tears in her eyes as she smiled. "Thanks guys. I promise I'll become stronger." after this she and the Cadets all group hug. After they come apart, they were surprised to see Crash still hugging Yuki. Yuki narrowed her eyes dully and said, "Crash, you can let go now." Crash popped his eyes open and lets go of Yuki, grinning sheepishly.

Back inside the bedroom, Tammy, Tommy, and SpongeTron were soon accepting the fact that Darry made his decision about quitting. "We're gonna miss you, Darry." Tommy said sadly. "Fighting bad guys won't be same without you."

Darry chuckled, "Come on, guys. Just because I'm no longer your teammate, doesn't mean we can't still hang out as friends."

"Of course." SpongeTron said with a feign smile. "We'll still go out to lunch when you're better." Darry nodded. SpongeTron led Tommy, Tammy, Poof, and Max out of the bedroom as he exited while closing the door. But once they leave, Darry frowns and slumps on his bed, deciding to sleep for a few more hours. Outside in the hall, SpongeTron has closed the door and looked at his teammates, all feeling doubt and uncertainty about their soon-to-be-former-teammate.
