Epilogue

"Mmph…no…no…let me go! Get off me! NO!"

"Quat, wake up!"

"No…let me go…NO! No….don't touch me!"

"Angel, wake up…it's okay, you're safe."

Quatre jerked awake. He sat up, breathing heavily.

"Quat, baby, you okay?" Duo asked softly, sitting up next to him.

"Y-yeah. Sorry I woke you."

Heero sat up on Quatre's other side. "No, Angel, don't be sorry. It's okay."

It had been five years since Tony arranged the attack on him and while the nightmares didn't happen very often anymore, they were still unsettling. Quatre was never more grateful for his lovers' presence than during a nightmare. They made sure that he felt safe and always reassured him. They never got mad when he lashed out at them in his sleep. Even the time he'd accidentally given Heero a black eye, Heero hadn't been mad. Quatre had felt awful about it, but his Japanese partner had assured him that he was okay and hadn't made a big deal out of it.

Now, wrapped in the arms of the men he loved, Quatre was able to calm down much faster than he had in the past. He wasn't as small as he used to be. He and Heero were now the same height and Duo was a couple inches taller. Heero had a wiry strength and Duo was a bit more built. Quatre had put on a few muscles himself, but being with his lovers still made him feel safer than he felt alone. Duo gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Better now, Babe?"

"Yeah. Thanks," Quatre replied with a peck of his own. He turned to Heero. "Thanks, 'Ro." He gave him a kiss as well and the three laid back down on the bed. Quatre snuggled between the two and thought about how glad he was that he and Heero had asked Duo to join them two years ago.

Duo had been upset because Treize had broken it off with him. Apparently Treize had been cheating on Duo for some time with Hilde and when he finally owned up to it, it was because he'd gotten Hilde pregnant and was going to 'make an honest woman' of her. Duo had gone to four bars and gotten totally wasted before coming up with the brilliant idea to go see Trowa. His alcohol muddled mind had decided to try and get Trowa back. Deep down Duo remembered that Trowa and Wufei were married, he'd been Trowa's best man after all, but the alcohol made him forget that.

Instead of getting angry, Trowa and Wufei realized he wasn't in a good place and had called Heero, who retrieved the braided drunk and brought him back to the apartment he and Quatre shared. It took Duo three days to sober up completely and he spent his days moping and wallowing in self-pity.

Heero and Quatre talked about ways to help their friend and Quatre got an idea that wouldn't leave him alone. He was afraid to even suggest it to Heero, thinking it would make him angry. But one night, after making passionate love, Heero mentioned that he would like to try top once in a while, if Quatre was willing.

Quatre felt bad because he wasn't ready for anyone to take him yet. He and Heero had tried and it had only brought out bad memories and nightmares the likes of which hadn't been seen since the attack first happened. So, Quatre had carefully suggested that they ask Duo to join them, as he might be willing to let Heero top sometimes until Quatre was ready to take that step. Heero had frowned and said he wasn't sure how he felt about that and he was willing to wait for Quatre. They talked at length about the pros and cons of having a threesome. After a few days of talking about it, they decided that they could ask Duo how he felt about it.

Duo had been apprehensive at first, knowing how protective Heero was of Quatre. But once they convinced him that they were both okay with it if he was willing, he agreed. And they hadn't regretted it for an instant. Sure there had been awkward moments where they realized they weren't including someone, but nobody took it personally and they figured it out. And it was so nice to have someone at home when business called one of them away.

There were times when one of them chose not to participate and that was okay, too. Duo knew when Quatre and Heero's anniversary was and he elected to let them have the night alone, opting to sleep in the spare bedroom. The anniversary of Duo joining them was celebrated with Quatre and Heero each getting a night alone with him. The complicated relationship made them talk things out a lot more. There were very few misunderstandings and it made them closer than most couples.

Even last month, when Quatre finally decided he was okay with Heero taking him but he wasn't ready for Duo, there were no hard feelings. Duo understood that Quatre had been with Heero longer and it was only right that Heero should get the privilege of being Quatre's first since the attack. Duo knew that eventually Quatre would be comfortable with him as well. They just needed a bit more time.

"You okay, Angel?" Heero had noticed that Quatre hadn't dropped off to sleep again.

"Yes…I was just thinking about how wonderful you both are."

Heero smiled in the dark and leaned over to give Quatre a gentle kiss. "You're wonderful, too, you know."

Quatre cuddled up next to Heero as Duo shifted in his sleep, bringing his arm around his two lovers. Life couldn't have been more perfect if Quatre had planned for it to be.
