"I don't understand why you are not concern about this," Kol yelled furiously at Ariana.
"I told you," Ariana calmly answered, "this is not a cause for concern."
"I just told you my brother, Klaus and Elijah teamed up with the others to take you down," Kol took hold of Ariana's wrist and whirled her around. They were in her room at the bed and breakfast. He came over just after he finished spying on his brothers. He cursed them for their betrayal, and hated them; Elijah more than Klaus. He looked straight into her eyes and saw the beauty of her grey iris', but something else caught his attention; loneliness. Kol was taken aback for a second, but suddenly everything clicked. The realization of her first, and maybe only love, out to destroy her must have hurted her deeply. True, Ariana seemed unfazed by the news and acted very casual nonchalant about the situation, but something in her eyes hinted to a deep cut that has just been newly opened.
"Ariana," Kol said in a softer tone. The tremble of his voice hinted to Ariana that he knew her pain. She smiled sweetly to acknowledge his suspicion.
"It's okay," she whispered and allowed herself to be embraced by his hug. He held her tight and for a moment Kol was reminded of Ariana's human self, before they all become something else.
"Ariana," Kol called to her from outside of her kitchen window. Ariana looked up from the dishes she finished scrubbing and smiled at Kol. She got up and went to the window, tipping on her toes so her whole face could be seen.
"Yes," Ariana playful answered.
"Lets go," Kol gestured her to leave. Ariana looked around the house and made sure her mother and sister had fallen asleep. She nodded and quietly sneaked her way thru the front door.
Kol waited with flowers and held them out to her. "Kol," when Ariana said his name sweetly it made his heart melt. Sure, Ariana was a couple years older than him, and he knew Elijah started to court her, but he couldn't help himself and hoped that his feelings weren't one sided.
"I thought these were for Sally," Ariana commented as she took the flowers from him. Kol, confused by the comment, pondered as to the meaning. Kol knew Sally well; she lived a few houses down and hung out with her from time to time. Then it clicked, the other day when Ariana passed them as Kol whispered sweet nothings into her ear. Kol smiled at his conquest but quickly tried to hide his joy; however, Ariana caught his smile. "So you do like her," Ariana teased.
"It's hard to say when my heart belongs to you," Kol coyly said. He knew his tone signaled sarcasm, but he wanted to mask his true intentions.
Ariana sighed, and they continued their walk through town. This little walk had become a sort of ritual between the two. It started a few days after she moved in and Kol became restless during the night. The two met, one night, as she tried to pull water from the well. Kol, being chivalrous, helped her remove the water and carried back to her house. After a few more restless nights, Kol stopped by Ariana's house to see if she was awake, and found her always awake. The two shared a few moments of time walking through town, usually doing chores, always together.
"The full moon will be here soon," Ariana commented as she looked up at the sky.
"The wolves will be out again," Kol kicked a stone off to the side.
"It will be harder to gather the herbs mother needs during those nights," Ariana said.
"She expects you to go out during that time?" Kol's eyes grew wide at the thought. He knew Ariana's mother to be cruel, but risking her daughter's life seemed too much.
"I've done it a couple times," Ariana nervously said, "As long as I stay clear of their rampage it should be okay."
Kol knew Ariana wasn't confident, but also knew he couldn't stop her. He felt Ariana too obedient at times, and wondered if her mother put a spell on her at birth to make her this obedient. Whenever Kol spoke wrongly at Ariana's mother, Ariana felt guilt and tried to take her side. She often said some nonsense about single motherhood and the pain of being alone or how she raised two girls alone.
"How about I go with you," Kol offered.
"That might make Sally jealous," Ariana teased. She looked to Kol's face and saw the seriousness in his statement. "I can't ask you to do that," Ariana looked away embarrassed about her earlier joke.
"I am offering," Kol said sincerely, "and we can use the underground tunnels. My brothers and I use it all the time. It will be safer," Kol insisted.
"I'll think about it," Ariana sighed out of defeat. Kol smiled at the win, and hoped she really considered it. "I better get back," Ariana yawned and started to turn around.
Kol nodded, and for the first time in a long time he felt wanted.
"Kol," Ariana called to him. Kol shook himself out of the memory and concentrated on the present. "I need Stephen."
"Stephen," Kol questioned.
Ariana nodded, she backed out of Kol's arms and faced the window in her room. "I need to put him under the same blood spell your mother put you all under."
"Why can't you undo the spell," Kol questioned.
"The spell will be undone in due time, but not by me. Your mother used her bloodline and the bloodline of the Bennet witches. Very powerful magic, which I can't undo."
Kol continued to look at Ariana with a puzzled look. "Let's just say their magic combined is too powerful and can only be done by someone with the same bloodline," Ariana elaborated. "Just get me Stephen, and it will make sense. I'll meet you in the town square in an hour. I have things to do," Ariana said sinisterly and left the room in a hurry. Kol wondered what she planned.
