WHAT AWAITS AT THE END

CHAPTER 8

After the forty five minute drive from Tokyo, Kise wasted no time to find Kasamatsu Yukio. He had kept running to and fro through the glass doors and asks every single staff who'd walk in. Kurokocchi. The teal head's name kept ringing in his mind. This will be the sole chance to reconcile with his long lost love. Kurokocchi. He can't contain his rage towards his manager—his trusted manager. He couldn't believe that he really did disconnect him from his Kurokocchi. With those thoughts in his mind, he can't help but furrow his neat golden brows.

After an almost half hour of searching, he found his target.

His tightly-closed fist landed on the Sandalwood Table in front of Kasamatsu. The black-haired teen's eyes widened as he glance to the reddish fist lying on the table.

"Ryou—I mean, Kise-kun?" his voice stammers.

"Kasamatsu-san, let's go get coffee." Kise stated monotonously. His face was completely blank.

"Th-that'd be great!" hint of hesitation was heard unnoticed from the spiky-head.

#####################

They both ordered a cup of Arabica Coffee, and while their coffees are placed on the table, Kasamatsu can't hide the uneasiness surrounding them.

They both waited for a good five minutes of silence, before the blonde spoke up.

"I have some few questions, Kasamatsu. And I do hope you'll answer everything truthfully and full of honesty."

Kasamatsu didn't reply so Kise proceeds with his interrogation.

"Why…why did you cut off my connection with Kurokocchi?"

"Wh—what are you talking about?"

"You changed Kurokocchi's number in my phone. You didn't message Kurokocchi the time when I told you to do so. You…you officially discarded Kurokocchi from my life!" tears began welling up from his golden eyes.

"I—I have no idea of what you're talking about, Kise. Did you even think everything he said was true? Why would you believe in those stories when he has no evidence at all?"

"Yes, I do think everything he said was true. I do believe in him, because I love him."

The last word made Kasamatsu stumble. Envy, Anger and Shame covered his innermost being as the picture of Kuroko Tetsuya flashes in his mind.

"I'm sorry Kise. I can't go any further. This is insane! All insane!" he stood and prepares to leave.

"Why? Because you are guilty? Because you couldn't admit that you took me away from my one and only love? Just how desperate could you be, Kasamatsu?" Kise's voice cracked, tears and anger mixed in his tone.

"How desperate? How should I answer that? I don't know, Kise. I don't know." Then he left.

Kise sat frozen in his table, he himself couldn't believe why and how could his trusted manager do those crazy things on him.

He dialled Kuroko's number and pressed the call button.

After a few rings, the other line answered.

"Hello?"

"Kurokocchi."

"Its you, Kise-kun."

"Eh? You don't know?"

"I'm sorry Kise-kun. I had deleted your number a month ago."

"I see."

"…"

"Kurokocchi."

"Hm?"

"Can we see each other again?"

"If it's okay for you to drive all the way here, then I have no choice."

"How about Akashi?"

"Akashi-kun? I think…its fine. There's nothing going on between us anyway."

"But he likes you."

"Can you call some other time Kise-kun? I'm studying."

"Okay, bye Kurokocchi."

"Goodnight, Kise-kun."

Then the other line hung up.

He stayed for an hour in the coffee shop while recalling his conversation with Kuroko. He can't help but cry and miss the times when they were exchanging their sweet nothings over the phone back in middle school.

He dialled the number again and in just one ring, the other line answered.

"Kise-kun. I told you I'm studying, didn't I?"

"But you still answered." Kise giggled softly.

"Then I'll hang up."

"Wait!"

"What?"

"I miss you, Kurokocchi."

Kuroko sighed before he answers. "I..."

"I?"

"Never mind. I'll hang up."

"I love you Kurokocchi."

Then the other line hung up.

Kise can't stop the smile curving in his face as he stands from his seat and walk towards the door.

#####################

Meanwhile, Kuroko couldn't focus well on his lessons as the last three words rang repeatedly in his mind. He can't stop the smile curving in his face as he keeps on flipping the pages of his textbook which leads to nowhere.

After a few minutes, his phone rang again. Not bothering to look at the caller's name, he answered immediately.

"Kise-kun I—"

"Tetsuya. "

"Akashi-kun?"

"You sound so surprised, Tetsuya."

"Is that so?"

"Hmm. What are you doing?"

"I'm studying."

"I see. See you tomorrow, Tetsuya."

"Okay, goodnight Akashi-kun."

"Goodnight."

The other line hung up.

Kuroko slapped his forehead hard for the grave mistake he has done. Rest assured he will be interrogated by his red haired friend the next morning.

#####################

The next morning Kuroko didn't expect to see Akashi dropping off from his family car.

"Good morning Tetsuya." Akashi gracefully waved at his teal-haired classmate.

"Good morning Akashi-kun." Kuroko politely replied.

"You came from your house?" Kuroko asked while looking at the long, shiny black Maserati.

"Yes. And from this day forward I won't be staying at my condo unit."

"That's great Akashi-kun. You don't need to travel far when going to school."

"We will be doing our home works at nearby, too."

At first, Kuroko thought that Akashi's idea was good. For Akashi's sake it was good of course, but then he realized it's not good for him.

He will not be able to see Kise often.

Kuroko frowns at that thought. And his insights weren't gone unnoticed by the emperor.

"You look dissatisfied with my decision on moving to my house."

As expected from Akashi Seijuurou.

"Eh?"

"Don't fool around Tetsuya, I know you're sad about it."

"Of course not Akashi-kun. Why would you think that?"

"You won't be able to see Kise more often."

"It doesn't matter Akashi-kun."

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"I see."

While talking to Akashi, the last night's phone call kept lurking in his mind. He couldn't see through the red head if he still remembers what happened last night.

They entered the classroom in awkward silence as Kuroko keeps on stealing glances from Akashi. How he wish he could have that unique ability of the redhead's so he could figure out if he was offended or not.

While preparing his desk, his phone vibrated. He immediately opened it and saw a message coming from Kise.

From: Kise-kun.

Subject: Good morning Kurokocchi!

Message:

Hi Kurokocchi! How's your morning with Akashi? Did he kiss you? Or hug you? Please don't let him do that! And if he does, report to me straightaway! =)

Kuroko smiled a small smile upon reading the message. Little did he know that a pair of Ruby-Gold eyes was watching him intently while he was nonchalantly reading the message.

He quickly closes his phone as their teacher arrives.

#####################

Late that afternoon, the teal head was preparing to leave when he receives a phone call. Akashi, on the other hand, watches his invisible friend from his seat.

"Hello."

"Is this Kuroko Tetsuya?"

"Yes. And may I know who is the man speaking?"

"Let's just say, I'm a friend's friend. Or should it be a best friend's friend? You decide."

"And what business do you have with me?"

"Just a cup of coffee."

Then the other line hung up.

Shortly after they both hung up, Kuroko receives a text message from the previous caller, stating their meeting place. Kuroko furrows his neat eyebrows while holding his mobile phone, and Akashi watches him from afar. In no minute he rushed to the exit, not even waving a quick good bye to his emperor friend.

Upon arriving the said place, he saw a familiar spikes of hair checking on him. He approaches and politely asks if he was the man who called. The spiky-haired man smirked and gestured the teal haired to sit down, which said teal head follows afterwards.

Kasamatsu took a good look at Kuroko, judging him from head to toe.

"You're not that bad." He initiates. "If it isn't for your height and unbelievably weak presence, you could be a great model."

Kuroko didn't speak a word and stared annoyingly at the man across him.

"Don't give me such face young man, you're ruining your pretty face." He chuckles.

"What do you want, Mr. Kise-kun's manager?"

"Oh? You knew? Did you hear that from Kise?" he scowled. "You seem too close. It's Kasamatsu Yukio by the way"

"Please stop beating around the bush, mister." Irritation rang in his tone.

"Stop seeing my model." He blurted, straight to his point.

"Why should I?" Kuroko replied, carrying out his defiant aura.

"You're a big threat to his current career. You'll be a big nuisance in his uprising stardom. You'll just ruin his present fame." He answered, fists balled in a tight shut. "You are a stubborn stain that should be removed before you dry completely."

"I'm not forcing myself to your model, Kasamatsu-san." Kuroko paused, seriousness painted on his naturally calm face. "He is the one who chases after me."

"And you don't like it?"

"Why would I?"

"You're asking the obvious Kuroko Tetsuya."

"Excuse me?"

"You are still in love with him."

Kuroko couldn't respond. He choked himself upon hearing Kasamatsu's words. There is no way he could deny it. But he has to collect himself, this might be a trap. He must not let his emotions to surface.

"What makes you think that?" Kuroko replied blankly. "You are not even Akashi-kun who could see right through me. And we barely know each other, not to mention that this is our first meeting." Then he stood up, preparing to take his leave.

Kasamatsu fumed in anger and yelled.

"He will never be yours. Even if I die!"

#####################

After his photoshoot, the blonde checked on his phone and saw two notifications.

One missed call.

One new message.

He checked the call register to see if it was Kuroko who gave him a call.

(Unknown number)

He checked the inbox and found a new message from an unknown number.

From: (Unknown Number)

Subject: Tetsuya

He blinked upon seeing the teal head's name on the subject bar.

Message: Tetsuya was on a rush after our class dismissal. And I assume it wasn't you who called him before he went away. I don't know who it is but I like you to look into it.

"Akashi?" he whispered. He instantly replies to his message.

From: Ryouta

Subject: Re; Tetsuya

Message: I have an idea who that person is, well leave it to me. And I like you to stop from throwing orders on someone you aren't close with.

Not long after reading Akashi's message, Kise dialled Kuroko's number.

"Kise-kun?"

"Where are you?"

"Heading home."

"To where?"

"Here, in my relative's house in Kyoto."

"Can we meet?"

"…" Kuroko took time before he answers.

"Fine, but not too late Kise-kun. I'll wait to the place where we last met."

Kise huffed an okay and headed to the parking lot.

#####################

After his thirty minute drive from Kanagawa, he parked his metallic gold Ford sedan in front of a quiet playground. Upon dropping off he saw a lump of teal hair seated in a swing on a far side of the playground.

"Kurokocchi." Kise called, panting.

"Kise-kun." Kuroko blankly replies. "Why did you come here?"

"To see you of course!" He exclaimed.

"You knew, didn't you?" the teal head asked.

"Eh? What I knew?" Kise lied.

"You're lying." Kuroko deadpanned. "Kasamatsu-san and I met."

"Eh? Kasamatsu? When?" the blonde shakily responded.

"Kise-kun is a terrible liar indeed." The teal head sighed. "I have no idea how and where did you get it but I'm absolute that you knew."

Kise sweat dropped. "Am I talking to Akashi Seijuurou?" he thought.

"Well…uh. What did you talk about?" the taller teen scratched a cheek.

"He told me that I could be a model if not for my height-."

"Of course! Kurokocchi is so beautiful you could make a great model if you're dressed as a woman!" Kise interrupted with full of happiness.

"I won't allow such humiliation, Kise-kun. And let me finish first." Kuroko replied, slightly annoyed. Dark, ominous aura surrounds him.

Kise twitched upon feeling the familiar atmosphere. "I'm not with Akashi, yes?" he thought again.

"He asked me to stop from seeing you." Sadness filled the teal head's eyes.

"H-He did?" Kise held his beloved in arm's length and gazed at the sad blue orbs. "What did you say?"

Kuroko didn't reply. He held his hand in withdrawal to his distraught. He can't help but keep silent as not to frustrate the model.

"Kurokocchi." Kise whispered.

Kuroko looked up to see the same sadness he have in his best friend's golden eyes. Indeed they both share the same sadness, the longing and the love they lost one year ago.

Kise cannot contain the love flowing within him. He cupped the teal head's cheeks and slowly, dramatically closes the gap between them. Kuroko's eyes widen in shock but closes them as their lips met.

It was a chaste kiss first.

They both stare at their moonlit eyes, eyes full of love and longing.

Kise leaned again, slowly and sweetly. They both shared a deep, close-mouth kiss.

Their lips parted for the second time, heart's beating loud and they don't want it to stop.

Kuroko closed his eyes as he could feel a warm breath approaching his slightly-parted lips. Kise makes his entrance.

The moon is shining brightly and the stars twinkle endlessly. Two pastel-haired high schoolers, at the age of sixteen, shared the same heart beat as their tongues danced gracefully on the rhythm their hearts have made.

Both of them broke free from the deep, passionate kiss to gasp for air.

"I really love you Kurokocchi." Kise whispered lovingly.

"Kise-kun." Wild red was seen in the teal head's cheek.

Kise smiled lovely as he stares at his flustered best friend.

"You'll allow me to drive you home, won't you?" he brushed the shorter male's red cheeks with his thumb.

Kuroko smiled. The model entangled his free hand on those pale cold hands, and together they left the place they last met, and the place they first kissed.

#####################

After a few minute drive, Kise had got off first to open the car door for Kuroko. He stretched his hand to offer help but the teal head refuses.

"I'm not a girl Kise-kun. And more importantly, I'm not your girlfriend."

"Actually we're getting there." Kise winked.

"I'm not a girl." Kuroko defied.

"But you're my lover." The blonde reached for the teal head's free hand and entwines his.

"I don't think so, Kise-kun."

"Is that a rejection?"

"No."

"Then what?"

"I don't know. I surmise we still have a long way to go before we could get there." Kuroko said, slightly pouting.

Kise frowned. Now that he remembers his current state, Akashi, Kasamatsu and his whole career, his heart shatters into pieces.

How can he stay with the one he loves if the world itself pulls them apart?

"We can make it Tetsuya. Let's believe in that thing called love."

"That sounds hilarious Kise-kun. Weren't you embarrassed with that?" Kuroko deadpanned, his famous mean response to one Kise Ryouta. "And please refrain from calling me Tetsuya. You sound like Akashi-kun."

"So Akashi has the only patent to call you that, nee?" Kise pouted, hint of jealousy rings in his tone.

"I don't think so. And please don't get jealous, it gives me the creeps."

Kise smiled as he steal glances from his lovely teal head. Kuroko looked at him and stared for a minute.

"I think you should go now." the teal head said softly.

"Yeah. Thanks for allowing me to drive you home." Kise placed a chaste kiss on the teal head's lips.

Kuroko smiled and wave goodbye as the blonde model starts the engine. Kise smiled his widest smile before the car moves.

The teal head stood in silent, watching the gold-metallic sedan as it flees. His face is warm and his cheeks displays a rose pink tint under the moonlit, ocean blue sky.

#####################

"You're late." A familiar voice said coming from the doorway. The lights are off and the man standing could not be seen clearly.

Kuroko flicked the switch and had the surprise of his life.

"Akashi-kun?" Kuroko's eyes opens wide.

"I'm worried that you didn't even say a simple good bye right after class." Akashi steps closer. "What happened?" A slight concern rang with his voice.

"That was Kise-kun's manager. He asked me to meet up with him."

"Yeah?" Akashi doubted.

Kuroko nodded passively.

"Then you meet with your Kise-kun afterwards?" Akashi's face is still calm though, but Kuroko can't help but shiver in between the red head's words.

"I saw that." The emperor added.

"Y-you saw what?" Kuroko stutters.

"What had transpired just a while ago. Right in front of your house." Akashi's words are stinging, hint of anger or jealousy mixes with his voice.

"Akashi-ku—"

Before the teal head knew it, his lips were locked by the red head's.

"Don't you dare cheat on me, Tetsuya. Please be mindful that you are mine." And the taller teen left shortly, leaving a startled teal head.

Akashi's words are stinging, Kuroko can't help but cry.

#####################

Last night was a dream came true turned into a nightmare, and the next morning was a blast. Kuroko was awaken by his mother's unusual banging on his door. Kuroko groggily opened the door and was pulled before he could speak.

"Famous Teen Model K has an affair with a "he". Pictures of them is now invading the cyberspace!"

The news completely awoke the sleepy teal head.

The image on the television is blurry but familiar hues are vividly seen. He gasp upon realizing that the leaking image is their pic while they were kissing. Their dreamy kiss. Kuroko ran to his room and cried.

After a while, his phone rings. He shakily reached for his phone and pressed the answer button and didn't bother to look at the caller.

"Kurokocchi!"

"Kise-kun…" Kuroko replied in between sobs.

"I-I'm really sorry."

"No! I should be the one telling you that. I told you we should stop this." Kuroko plainly said, but still on tears. He is keeping all his feelings, he shouldn't breakdown while talking to the person whom he thought was doomed.

"No Kurokocchi, please don't give up. I'll do something about this. Just…just hold on a bit longer, 'kay? I don't want to lose you again. Plea—"

Kuroko hung up and threw his hand phone. He cried with pain and sadness. He just ruined Kise-kun's beautiful life. He should not have showed up in front of him again.
