Healing – Chapter Five
A/N: Okay, okay, I know I'm a evil person who made you guys wait a lot for updates, but remember that I won't give up any stories, kay?
And sorry, yet again, for making you guys wait.
Since I'm on vacation, I'll have more free time, so I'll be more likely to update, but yet again I won't make any promises of updates every day because… well, it probably won't happen.
And I'm actually going to re-write one of my stories, so you'll have to bear with me… SORREEEHH
Anyway, I think I've ranted enough. Here's the chapter!
Annabeth woke up feeling so much better. The day before she was so tired she had to make Nico carry her around the house.
But even if she had been almost completely dependable of him, Annabeth was happy he was there to help her. She didn't know what she would do without him sometimes.
When she turned around, she wasn't surprised to see the boy sleeping heavily on the right side of her bed. Nico usually slept with her to be sure he was there if she needed him.
Annabeth smiled and got up from the bed, closing the curtains to make sure the light wouldn't wake him up then making her way to her closet to pick up clothes so she could change and go to work.
While she put her clothes on, she thought of Kayla, and prayed she was still holding on. She had been stable these past few days, but you could never be sure with her condition.
And she thought about Sammy Jackson, too. The little kid was adorable, and Annabeth would have scolded herself for being so easily emotionally attached to her patients, but she had done this since day one at her job, and she knew she would never be able to act cold and heartless around those kids.
Once she finished getting ready, she made her way to the kitchen, where she saw Bianca sitting on top of the island, drinking a cup of coffee. She smiled and waved at Annabeth when she saw her.
"Hey, doctor. Had a good night's sleep?" She asked as she poured some coffee in a mug and handed it to Annabeth.
"Yeah. But only thanks to your brother. Without his help, I would've crashed on the sofa and wouldn't have moved 'till this morning."
"Wow. You do know, I was the one who went out the whole night, right?"
Annabeth punched her shoulder playfully. "Yeah, yeah, it was a tuff shift, okay? A girl arrived with a shard of glass inside her arm after a car crash."
"Ouch." Bianca flinched.
"Yeah, and she was related to a parent of a patient of mine, which just made the whole situation all the more dramatic."
"It was indeed a tuff shift, huh? Now I see why you were so tired. I'm sorry for not being here to help… I'm suddenly happy Nico's anti-social and didn't want to go to the party as well."
"I heard that." Nico announced while he stepped into the kitchen.
"Don't take it personally, you know it's true, Bianca said, handing him coffee as well.
"Yeah, but you say it like it's a bad thing."
"And you think it's a good thing?"
"I think it depends on the person's view of the world. To me, it's amazing."
"Aren't you afraid you'll die alone or something?" Bianca asked.
To some people, she would sound rude, but Annabeth and Nico knew her enough to tell she was just kidding. Bianca would rarely be rude to people. According to Nico it would "only happen on very special occasions".
Nico smirked. "Not really. I'll just live a house away from one of you and keep visiting all the time."
"Why a house away? Why not next to ours?" Bianca asked, confused.
"Believe me, it's the best strategic place. Right Annabeth?"
Annabeth just smiled and nodded, putting her empty mug on the sink and kissing Nico and Bianca's cheeks before leaving the house, the faint sound of Bianca's voice asking what they meant as a background noise.
She clicked the button of the elevator and waited for it. After a few seconds a ding was heard and she lifted her head to see the elevator doors open to reveal Katie Gardner standing there, typing at her phone.
But only after the doors opened, she put it down to look at Annabeth.
She put her phone away on her purse and a smile broke into her face. "Hey Annabeth!"
"Hey, Katie!" Annabeth replied, suddenly cheerful. Katie Gardner had that effect on people. You couldn't be around the girl for long without breaking into a smile. Probably because she seemed to always be in a good mood.
"Where's Travis?" Annabeth asked, stepping into the elevator.
Katie and Travis shared an apartment in Annabeth's building. They were two floors up from her.
"Oh, he had to go early today. Apparently one of his patients had a problem, so he had to run there."
Annabeth nodded her head in understanding. They waited for their floor to arrive while having an animated chat about anything and everything. Katie and Annabeth were very good friends since college.
They had both attended to the same one, and were roommates. After they finished college they both became interns at Grey Hospital and had been working there since.
Once they arrived at said Hospital, after Katie had happily offered to drive Annabeth there, they both heard hurried footsteps running towards them. They looked forwards and saw Travis running towards them with the biggest smile on his face.
He reached for Katie and picked her up, spinning her around, putting her down and kissing her in the mouth. The whole thing was so passionate, Annabeth felt the need to turn around.
At the same time, she enjoyed seeing how Travis made Katie so happy, and vice versa.
Once they broke away Katie looked confused, but happily, at Travis.
"What was that for?" She mused.
"I got the results."
"You did? Seriously? You better not be pranking me, Travis Stoll!"
"It's not a prank. It's a little girl."
Annabeth's chin fell. They couldn't be talking about what she thought…
But Katie had the biggest smile Annabeth had ever seen on her face (which was saying something), and when she yelled how happy she was, Annabeth knew it could only be that.
After Katie ended kissing and hugging Travis, she turned to Annabeth, remembering she was still there.
"Huum… Sorry for that…"
Annabeth just hugged her tightly. "Sorry? Sorry?! I'm so happy for you, katie! When were you going to tell me you were pregnant?!"
Katie laughed nervously. "Sorry… We wanted to know the sex of the baby before spreading the news. I'm glad you aren't mad at me"
"Mad? I'm so happy right now I seriously couldn't be mad if you slapped me in the face, Kates!"
Katie just laughed and smiled at Travis when he put his arm on her shoulders.
It was all so great and nice, Annabeth almost forgot she had to check on her patients.
"Oh, God! I'm sorry, guys, I wish I could freak out with you more, but I have to check on my patients!"
But then, Travis spoke up. "Huum… since I came earlier to get the results, I kind of got some work done too… I hope you don't mind, but I've checked our patients… The only one left is Kayla, since she only wanted to see you. I just thought you would appreciat it, since you looked so tired yesterday…"
Annabeth smiled. "Thanks, Travis! You really helped me. Of course I don't mind! I'm going to check on Kayla, then. See you guys later" She said and walked to her office to drop her purse before going to see the little girl.
After she had done that, she made her way to room 142A. But as she was walking there, she saw the amount of doctors in her room, and saw her parents outside the white room, holding their hands, looking worried through the window.
The day had just started too good, huh?
Hey! Once again, so sorry for not writing since, ever. To be honest I haven't been giving writing fanfiction much attention lately, but I'll try to change that.
Hope you liked the chapter! If you did, leave me a review, even though I probably don't deserve one : (
Anyway, 'till next chapter!
