they will remember your name

Character: Wendy Marvell

Summary: She knows what to do.

If she is completely honest with herself, she is scared like never before in her life – but she cannot show this fear because an important part of a fighter is a firm resolve – that is what Grandine used to say and even though Grandine is long gone and has never been one to give advice about fights because as long as she can remember, the dragon has never said anything about the battles between dragons.

She is empty, like a vessel that waits to be filled. Her dream to think Grandine is somewhere in the background but it is not enough to fill her with warmth and inspiration. She needs something else because this opponent is different from the lacrima she has destroyed so many years back. She needs something that will fill her with warmth and the will to fight against another creature.

And then, the miracle happens.

Something inside of her starts to glow, a long-lost dream slowly resurfaces: the dream to prove that she is just as much of a dragon slayer as the others. She has long grown tired of being belittled – especially since it has started so many years ago. Even Grandine has told her to leave the fights to 'Igneel's brat and Metalicana's iron headed idiot of a son' – but she does not want to see Gajeel and Natsu fight on the behalf of humankind.

She is a dragon slayer as well and she wants to proof that she is more than the little girl that can heal. This has been a dream she has dreamed long ago, a dream she has buried beneath fears and shyness. Now, the dream is back with full force and come hell or high water, she is going to fight on the behalf of her dream just as much as she is going to fight on the behalf of humankind.

Gone is the little girl that has cried herself to sleep because losing the mother has hurt too much. This is a new girl, a girl born out of the silent tears, tears that have been hidden out of pride. This is a warrior of the sky, the daughter of the sky dragon – someone who belongs into a world of steel and stone just as much as she belongs into a world of starlight and summer breezes.

Her resolve is no longer shaky now because the dream does not allow her to waver anymore. Shyness is ripped away from her and replaced with a healthy layer self-confidence. For a moment, she wonders whether this is what Natsu and Gajeel feel all the time, whether this is what it feels like to be Laxus. It feels nice to believe to her to be able to believe in herself because now she realises that in a world where people have to fight for recognition and respect, it pays out to be bold and take whatever you want and need.

She casts her first spell, Arms x Vernier, to make Mira's magic stronger and then she flies with Charle's help. Failing is no option now, it has never been an option in first place, because failing means death and so she fights for her life. And as she uses her breath attack, she believes to hear Grandine's proud chuckle in the back of her mind and this gives her the nerve to keep fighting instead of going after Lucy.

Here is to having self-confidence and a dream that yearns to be lived.
