Epilogue: Happy Beginnings

It was a fine evening in London, and Professor Hershel Layton of Gressenheller University was taking the time to catch up on some must needed sleep. He was up in the early hours of morning, and had been busily marking essays for his archeology class all day. It was not how most would choose to spend their Saturday, but Layton enjoyed his work, and with Emmy having been in Monte d'Or for the past two weeks, he was a little shorthanded.

He was just drifting off again when a rapping came from the door.

"Come in," he called, straightening himself up and placing his top hat back on his head.

"Hello, Professor Layton."

Emmy stepped into his office, and he was both delighted and surprised to see her. "My dear, I wasn't expecting you until Monday."

"I know," she said, planting a kiss on his cheek. "But I finally got back in town, and I wanted to see you."

He smiled, returning the kiss, then hastily pulled away. "I have something for you," he mumbled, searching through a pile of artifacts on his table. "Ah, here." He presented her with a medium sized box.

"Professor, what is this?"

"Just something to welcome you home."

Emmy grinned and pulled the sides up, "Oh, you really didn't need to do this." She held up the camera and looked through the lens. Her fingers ran over the dials buttons; it all felt right. "Thank you. I feel I should have at least wrapped yours."

She handed him a picture frame, with the photograph of a beautiful ginger haired woman. "Claire deserves more than your sock drawer."

"Thank you, Emmy." Layton took the frame. The photo looked so much better. He placed it proudly on his desk. "How did everything go in Monte d'Or?"

"It was fine," she replied. "Angela, Randall and Henry were wonderful. I'm just tired. I could use a regular week of work."

"I'll see you Monday morning then."

"Yeah, and …" she cleared her throat. "You know how we were going to take things slower…maybe we could go for a tea sometime…." He stared at her blankly "…like right now for instance. Then I can tell you about my week, and we can stop by my place…."

"Emmy, would you like to join me for tea?"

She nodded and he offered her his arm, and clinging together, they walked through Gressenheller campus and into the heart of London. It was an overcast sky, with the fumes of five o'clock traffic clogging the air.

"Wait here a second." Emmy stopped and pulled her new camera out. "Excuse me," she called, running to a stranger, "would you mind taking a picture?"

The stranger happily obliged. Layton waved thank you. He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her temple. They continued down the street, he with his eyes closed, oblivious to the impending rain, and the city's hectic atmosphere. Beside him Emmy was humming, in that off tune way of hers.

It was a beautiful song.

The End

Author's Note: First of all I meant to get this out much sooner, but exams and culminatings got in my way...

This is officially the end of Anomalous Entity, I'm both overjoyed for finishing a long fanfiction, and sad to see it end. I've had a great time writing this and sharing it with all of you, and I want to extend my thanks to everyone who reviewed, favourited, followed or read this story. The support I've gotten from you guys while writing this has been extraordinary. I hope to be back in the future with more Layton fanfiction, although my next project would not take the same form as this story.

So, thanks again. This story is just as much yours as it is mine 3
