Chapter 3: Adventurer Mabel
"Slow down Dipper. Your sister is probably out with her friends. I know you guys have a strong bond and all, but sometimes you have to have faith in one another. You gotta trust that she will make the right choices. I mean, you guys won't be together for your whole life you know. "Dipper's eyes widened at his Grunkle's words of wisdom. He never knew he had it in him.
"Um, I guess you're right. I'm sure Mabel is fine. Thanks Grunkle Stan!" Dipper turned and ran up to the attic. The thoughts in his mind wouldn't seem to calm down. No matter what Grunkle Stan had said, he had a feeling that his sister was not alright.
"I should seriously get my own theme music!" Mabel said particularly to no one as she ventured deeper into the forest. She was going on a very important quest so having her own theme music was very necessary to her. Thinking quickly, the sweater girl began to hum her own crazy made up tune. Up ahead of her looked as if the forest was just getting thicker and more dreary. This sudden change of the climate around the girl did not stop her from going further singing a happy tune.
The ripped out page from Journal 3 was held tightly in her left hand. It was the key for finding the vampire hunks that she always dreamed about. She only hoped that Dipper wouldn't get too mad at her for ripping out a page in the book. She knew that he cared for her and didn't want her to go on an adventure alone. On the other hand, Mabel decided that it wouldn't take her too long to finish her search so it wasn't all that bad of her to do. Dipper surely would still be worried about her but it was time for Mabel to try to do things on her own. She loved her twin dearly, but didn't always need him looking over her shoulder all the time.
Mabel prayed that Dipper would understand what she was trying to do and that it was important to her. Seeing vampires in real life was her absolute dream! All of her life she cherished her vampire novels and watched countless movies which starred total vampire hotties. Dipper never quite got her obsession and always treated it like it was the weirdest thing. Like being obsessed with a certain red head that was older than him wasn't weird at all. Dipper was in no condition to judge her at the moment.
It was just very simple. Mabel wanted to go all out and live out her wishes.
"It says here to head north until you spot a river..." Mabel read out loud from the directions to find the vampire habitat. "And then hang a left and follow the stream down hill..." The young girl looked up from the page and glanced around her surroundings. No river was in sight, and everything looked way different than the map before her. Was she going the wrong way the whole time? Was she lost? This did not look good for the happy go lucky twelve year old.
"Did I miss the turn...did I even go North? Ahhh this is too confusing!" Mabel raised her hands to her head and pulled at her hair. She was completely lost and very alone. If only Dipper was with her to help her out. He was always good with these kinds of things, not her. Mabel's specialties were goofing off and making sweaters. Reading maps and directions were definitely not her forte.
Regret wasn't going to help her in this situation though. Mabel was going to find her way and see the vampires. She was NOT going to give up. "Luckily I prepared for this!" She said taking the backpack that she had which matched her brother's. Pulling out the items, Mabel smiled to herself. "Yarn is the perfect way to help yourself find your way through the forest! All you need to do is leave a trail behind you! Yarn can also keep you warm when it gets cold and can be a source of food!"
Mabel brought the clump of pink wool to her mouth but instantly spat it out. "ACK! Never mind! Bad idea!" The yarn tasted horrible and was impossible to swallow. Mabel was just going to stick with the granola bars that she packed with her. She may be not a professional hiker but she did know that food was important to bring. Water was also another essential that the brunette did not forget to bring. Though at the moment she wasn't all that hungry, and just wanted to find the right way to the path.
She began to unravel the yarn and trail it behind her as she traveled up ahead. Looking behind her, Mabel quickly noted that the yarn idea was genius.
Back in the attic, Dipper was having trouble pushing past the horrible feeling in his gut. Half of him told him to trust his sister and the other half told him that she was in trouble. The tug of war he was having was internally ripping himself apart. Dipper could not shake the thoughts out of his head. Surely Grunkle Stan told him that Mabel was just out with her friends, and maybe he should just believe that.
Unfortunately he still knew that Grunkle Stan didn't know what he was talking about and just wanted Dipper to quit worrying. Who could blame the poor kid? His sister had been missing all morning with no sign of her left. Dipper knew that Mabel would always tell him if she was going out. That triggered that something was very wrong because he was never informed of where she was going.
To sum everything up, Dipper was uncomfortably concerned for his twin sister. Although he felt this way, he still shuffled down the stairs to the kitchen when Grunkle Stan called him for breakfast. "Yeesh kid you already have bags under your eyes. Something eating at ya?" Grunkle Stan pointed out as he brought Dipper's food to him. The young boy slumped in his chair and didn't touch the food before him just yet. Had Grunkle Stan already forgotten the whole commotion earlier this morning?! Mabel was missing!
"It's Mabel." Dipper said with his voice cracking in the end. Stan noticed the way his great nephew avoided eye contact as he moved his fork around in his breakfast. The old man hadn't realized that this would be such a huge impact on the boy. Maybe their bond was really strong after all. Even if that was true, Grunkle Stan needed to knock some sense into him so that he wouldn't drag this on any further.
"Look, I know Mabel is very important to you and I get it. But I'm starting to think you worry about her a bit too much. I'm sure she's fine where she is. And if it does make you feel better, we'll go on a search for her if she doesn't show up tonight." Grunkle Stan put his hand on Dipper's shoulder which made the boy jolt up to meet eyes staring back at him. His great uncle smiled warmly to him which was a bizarre thing to see. He was being...comforting?
"Uh thanks Grunkle Stan." Dipper replied feeling a smidgen better. At least he knew that Stan cared for his and his sister's well being. "No problem kid. Now eat up; don't want it to go to waste y'know?" The old man ruffled Dipper's chestnut coloured hair making the boy stifle a laugh.
Once Dipper went ahead and started to eat, Stan swiftly left the room. The former calm Grunkle was now surrounded in an aura of uneasiness and panic. He hadn't seen Mabel at all this morning either! And if the twins parents found out that their only daughter was missing, he wouldn't hear the end of it. Not only that but he would never be trusted again after finally regaining their faith before the summer. Grunkle Stan couldn't picture a life without the Pines twins with him.
That is why he needed to confirm that Mabel was actually alright.
...
Meanwhile Mabel was still having trouble figuring her way around the Gravity Falls forest. She couldn't quite figure out what time it was since her surroundings where dim with hardly any sunlight peeking through the thick forest. It actually made the quest quite misleading for the girl twin. However, she was not going to let this become a burden for her. As Mabel sauntered through the woodlands, she didn't quite notice the dark figure lurking behind her.
Things didn't look good for the young sweater girl.
A/N Ahhh! I'm sorry guys! I know it has been forever since there was a new chapter for this story. This chapter was also pretty short but I'm sure that the next ones will be longer! My promise to you!
