(Maka POV)

"Soul! Get up already!" My fists slam into Soul's door, trying to wake him up in time for school.

"Maka, stop knocking! I'm already up!"

"Well then you should have said something!" I yell back at the irritated voice. "Breakfast is ready when you are, okay?"

"Yeah," I hear the low mumble.

"Damn weapon," I mutter and walk back to the kitchen. I sit down and poke at my food, my stomach clenching with distaste. I'm able to eat two bites of the pancakes I'd prepared before I felt the need to vomit. I stand abruptly, pressing a hand to my mouth.

I walk over to the trash when a low voice stops me. "Maka, don't tell me you're throwing that food away."

"Oh, hey. You're right. I'll put it in the fridge." I walk over to the fridge and stuff it in, savoring the cold air that escapes before closing the door.

"Maka. Are you sick or something?"

"I'm just not that hungry. Don't worry, I'll be fine. Missing one breakfast won't hurt me."

"Maybe not, but missing breakfast for a week will. And eating crackers for lunch isn't good either."

"Soul, quit nagging me. We have to get to school, we're almost late," I press, moving around him.

He grumbles and we make our way out of the door. He climbs onto his bike and I climb on behind him, wrapping my arms around his torso. I can feel his soul, tense and angry. I nudge it apologetically and rest my chin on his shoulder. "I'll eat a bigger lunch, okay?"

Soul sighed and his shoulders relaxed a bit. "Yeah, okay. Starving isn't cool, Maka."

I nodded. "I know. Now let's get going, already!"

(Kid POV)

"Kid! We have to go, or we're going to be late... again," Liz fumes, holding onto the back of my coat firmly.

But I can't worry about that because of the terrible confession Patti made to me.

"I need to fix the candles, Liz! If Patti truly left a window open in the lounge, then there's no doubt that some of the candles were blown out! And, if even just one of the candles were blown out-"

"The whole operation would be asymmetrical. Right. We've heard the bit, Kid," she interjects dully. I let out a pitiful sob and sink out of her grasp and onto the ground.

"Hehehe, Kiddo's crying again!" Patti laughs at my expense. I wipe my eyes swiftly, scowling at the ground.

"Not very helpful Patti. Can you try and... do your magic?"

I sniff. "Don't even bother! I'm obviously not fit to be attending the academy! If I couldn't even perform such a menial task such as remembering to check every room before leaving the manor, then I'm utterly useless!"

Liz rubs her temple. "Kid! It's a freaking desert. We don't even need candles!"

"They're elegant!" I protest feebly.

"Hey Kiddo! I think I see Maka over ahead of us!" Patti yells.

My eyes widen and I push myself up, wiping my suit down and looking around. "Where is she?"

"Oops! No she isn't. But she is at school!" Patti sings, pointing in the direction of the academy.

My cheeks heat. "Well, you know, she may be concerned if I don't arrive. If anything I should go to tell her why I'll no longer be attending school."

Liz groans, slamming a hand to her forehead. "No way! You can do way better than Maka!"

I turn and glare at my weapon. "Excuse me?"

"Nothing," she sighs and continues walking with Patti ahead of me.

"I don't like Maka!" I insist. Liz and Patti move in unison and give me knowing looks.

I sigh. "It isn't too obvious, is it?"

Liz groans. "Kid, you couldn't be more obvious if you were screaming it from the roof."

"Heehee! Kiddo likes Maka! Liz likes-" Patti is interrupted by a loud shriek.

"SHUT UP PATTI!"

I stare at my weapons for a second, then continue down the road, trying to recover my dignity. "Well... let's go to school, girls.
