True to his promise, Peter was teaching her how to be a mother. Clint had to leave on some mission, and she was left alone with the young human. It was close to the end of the school year, and Peter's class was doing a party. And all the parents were supposed to bring something. So Natasha was in the kitchen with Peter the day before the party and she was making rice crispy treats. But they were special. Peter was telling her what to put in them… and they were going to be interesting. M&M's, Chocolate chips, mix the regular and the chocolate rice crispies… and that was all besides the marshmallow fluff to hold everything together. He was close to making them Fruity Pebbles bars for the colors... but the redhead stopped him in his tracks.

She looked him over and watched a movie with him. Disney movies. She'd bought Netflix so they could have all the movies on demand for him to watch. Currently, they were watching 'The Little Mermaid'. Peter saw the redhead and the fiery temper and looked to Natasha. "Miss Natasha, it's you!" he said, pointing at the screen. Peter still wasn't sure to call Clint and her 'Dad' and 'Mom'… so he called them 'Mister Clint' and 'Miss Natasha'. It was rather adorable.

She looked at the screen and when the mermaid started to sing Peter listened and smiled, yawning a bit. So music was the way to lull the child to sleep. Wonderful. But what she didn't realize was that he had fallen asleep… in her lap. She closed her eyes and sighed. What would Clint do? She thought to herself. He'd stay there. But she had to finish things in the kitchen. So she picked him up and cradled him close to her chest, his little arms almost instinctively wrapped around her neck and she smiled at him. This innocent little boy… the boy she was so afraid that she'd stain with her red… was holding onto her like she meant something to him. It warmed her heart and she walked him to his room, laid him in his bed, and softly sang, "I don't know when… I don't know how… but I know something's starting right now. Watch and you'll see, someday I'll be, part of your world." She stepped from the room and headed back to the kitchen, cleaning up the mess.

She sat and relaxed for a while, the movie paused so he could finish it when he came back. But then she heard a sound she didn't want to hear. The sound of a crying child. She got up and walked to Peter's room and opened the door quietly. She saw him curled up with his blanket and crying in his room. Hearing the words "Mommy" and "Daddy" come from the little boy while his face was full of tears broke her heart. She remembered days where she felt like that about her parents, having lost them when she was younger than he was. When he looked up at her, he curled up more with his blankets more. She walked into the room and waited for Peter to let her know she could sit down with him. When he moved a bit she took that as her signal and sat on the bed beside him. Opening her arms, she watched as the little boy crawled into her lap and rested against her chest. She held him close and let him continue crying, knowing he needed to get it out now. She rocked back and forth slowly, hoping to relax him as she sang a song from when she was a child.

When he stopped crying, she continued singing and carried him out to the living room, hearing someone there. She looked and found Clint, putting his quiver away along with his bow. And the look on his face when he saw Natasha and Peter was priceless in her eyes. It meant to her that she had done well. Clint watched as Peter nestled closer to Natasha, hugging her for comfort and more before reaching out to Clint and grinning sleepily. He took Peter from Natasha and took him back to his room while she went to the kitchen and finished things for tomorrow.

Sitting back out on the couch, she looked up at Clint when he arrived. "So… you and Peter," He started as he sat down. "He was crying," She interrupted. "I don't like hearing children crying. He was calling out for his mom and dad. I know we're not them… but I just wanted to do what I could for him. So I came in and held him while he cried. That's it."

Clint leaned over and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "You did well, Tasha. You did really well," he complimented. "Thanks," Was all she said as she curled up into his side. Maybe this kid was helping them both get closer together.
