Based off something. I don't own Hetalia.
Matthew shut the door and locked it behind him.
It didn't muffle their voices at all.
"IT DIDN'T INVOLVE YOU, ALFRED! YOU DIDN'T NEED TO THROW IN YOUR OWN COMMENTARY!"
"I WAS JUST SAYING MY DAMN OPINION!"
"Arthur-"
"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG! I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'RE YELLING AT ME!"
Matthew could hear Francis trying to calm Arthur down. It wasn't working, because he could still hear the Brit yelling at his twin brother.
"FRANCIS, DON'T GET INVOLVED! DON'T YOU GET INVOLVED! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THE CONVERSATION WAS ABOUT?"
"No, but-"
There was the sound of Arthur's fist hitting the table. "THEN STAY OUT OF IT!"
"ALL I SAID WAS ONE THING!"
Matthew sighed and plugged in his headphones to the laptop. He wished they weren't broken on one side; he really wanted to block out the sound. He also wished he could find a distracting enough song.
"IT WAS OVER SOMETHING STUPID!"
"EXACTLY! SOMETHING STUPID! YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO JUMP INTO MY CONVERSATION!"
"ARTHUR! YOU'RE OVERREACTING! PLEASE-"
"OVERREACTING? I'M OVERREACTING? YOU'RE JUST TOO SOFT, FRANCIS!" It was clear where Alfred's melodramatic nature came from.
Matthew had seen the empty bottles out in the kitchen. He knew precisely why Arthur was overreacting.
"I'M JUST SITTING THERE TRYING TO TALK WITH MY BROTHERS-"
"I WAS JUST TRYING TO SAY WHAT I THOUGHT WOULD HELP!"
"Arthur, your brothers didn't even notice!"
"NO, BUT THIS BRAT WAS TRYING TO MAKE ME LOOK LIKE AN ARSE IN FRONT OF MY FAMILY!"
"I'M YOUR FAMILY TOO!"
He wished that he didn't have to hear this. But it wasn't like he could go out there himself. Arthur was terrifying when he was mad.
"WHY ARE WE EVEN ARGUING? THIS IS STUPID! THIS ISN'T SOMETHING TO ARGUE ABOUT!"
"OF COURSE IT'S SOMETHING TO ARGUE ABOUT! IT'S A MATTER OF YOU LEARNING SOME GODDAMN RESPECT!"
Matthew could just imagine Arthur being red in the face by this point. Francis nearly in tears, gripping Arthur's arm if he allowed it. Alfred blankly staring him down, silently challenging him to go farther.
Matthew could finally hear the voices lower in volume. He could hear Arthur gruffly say 'I'm sorry for yelling at you'. He could hear Francis breathing heavily. From the loud footfalls outside of Matthew's door; Alfred had gone back to his room.
There was the sound of someone trying to get in, then there was a soft knocking at Matthew's door. He got up to answer it, half expecting the rage to be redirected at him. It was, instead, Francis. His blue eyes were puffy from tears.
"Why was your door locked?" Francis asked. He glanced at the laptop. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing. I was just..." He looked for the right word. "Shielding myself." He nodded his head toward the kitchen.
"Ah. You weren't sleeping, were you?"
"No."
Francis turned away, heading back toward the kitchen. He glanced back at Matthew. The look on his face said one thing.
'I'm sorry you had to hear that.'
Although they were usually a cheery family, they did have their moments that they regret having.
Just a thing I needed to write out. Review, please.
